Chapter Nineteen

Kagome had been cleaning her bathroom when she got the call. The Vice Principal had called to ask her to please come to the school. Quickly. She had dropped everything she was working on and ran to her car. She sped to the school, the entire time worrying that something had happened to Takeru. Inuyasha had been even more protective than he usually was of her little hanyou so she couldn't figure out what could have happened to him.

When she entered the principals office she was suprised to find not only a laughing Takeru, but also a very pissed off Inuyasha, somber Kouga, and the ever annoying Hojo. All sat in a line before the principals hardwood desk. Hojo had an ice pack resting against one side of his face.

All three of the youkai were looking in her direction when she entered, probably smelled her in the parking lot. Takeru jumped from his seat and ran over to her. His bright smiling face was not what she had expected. What popped out of his mouth next almost gave her a heart attack.

"Hey Momma! Guess what?! Mr. Ito punched Mr. Nagasaki for me!"

What in the world had happened?

Inuyasha had just about had it. His hanyou senses were dulling again. It was that time of the month and he was getting grumpy. He hated his nights of weakness and always became a walking nightmare the day before. It didn't help either that he could tell Takeru was going through the same punishment. The little guy had actually tripped on their way to school-something he never did. It was pissing him off that he couldn't even help his own son with it. And the whole reason Takeru had the problem in the first place was because of him! Most of the youkai runts sensed his anger and tried to be extra good for his sake. He would have to remember to push them all on the swings later.

He had tried to be calm and collected like he usually was if only for Takeru's sake. He looked miserable. So they had made it almost all the way through the day without too much trouble. Takeru was in his last class. The dreaded class. The one Inuyasha almost ducked out of because he knew he would lose it, but he didn't. Instead he stood beside Takeru's desk and tried to look interested in what the bore had to say.

Takeru's little ears were swiveling everywhere, trying to catch the sounds he usually heard around him. He kept blinking his eyes carefully to help his eyes adjust. His sharp little claws kept scratching his desk. His senses weren't telling him how close everything was and it was making him very nervous and clumsy.

Nagasaki had been asking a little human girl a question. She hadn't been listening to him. She had been far too fascinated with watching Takeru's ears swivel all around. After asking the same question three times without an answer Nagasaki had walked over and slammed his hand on the girls desk. Takeru and Inuyasha both snarled slightly at the unexpected action. After apologizing for not paying attention the girl had given the right answer. It would have been fine if he had left it at that, but Nagasaki hadn't a nice bone in his whole body.

"It's alright Arisu. Hanyou can be a bit disruptive sometimes. Takeru. You will be silent and imobile for the rest of the class. Understood?" Takeru's ears immediately slid back into his hair. He nodded to Nagasaki and turned back towards the board.

Nagasaki looked over at Inuyasha with a fake teeth clenching smile. Once he stood before the class again he turned to the board behind him and carefully started to write out their homework for the night. Inuyasha had bit his own tongue to keep quiet as long as he had. The last comment from Nagasaki was what broke the hanyous self control. It was so quietly muttered that the humans in the room didn't hear it, but all hanyou and youkai did.

"Damn halfbreeds need to be slaughtered at birth."

The next thing Inuyasha knew he was standing over a very unconcious teacher.

So here they all were in the principals office. Hojo was getting redder and redder at every tick of the clock. The principal looked entirely uncomfortable. Kagome had taken Takeru's seat and held him in her lap. Sitting between Hojo and Inuyasha wasn't the best place to be, but it did guarantee that they couldn't hurt each other.

"So why is Kouga here, if you don't mind my asking?" Kagome had heard it all, but she still couldn't tie in Kouga.

"One of the youkai students went to get him. He was the one to bring Mr. Nagasaki into the nurses office. He has talked to all the youkai and hanyou students to hear what they had to say. All of them said the same thing. Mr. Nagasaki has stepped too far this time. He will be asked to leave the school. We will find a replacement soon and you will not have to deal with him any longer. I apologise for any other trouble he has caused."

At that the principal nodded to Hojo. Hojo turned an amazingly dark shade of red before he stormed out of the office. They all heard the nurse squeek as he shoved past her in the hall.

As she turned back to face the principal, Kagome's gaze caught with Inuyasha's. It was obvious from the way he sat that he hadn't been watching Hojo. He had been watching her. So intently that she had no idea how she hadn't noticed it. He looked so upset. He had looked like that alot when they were younger. He always blamed himself when things went wrong. Whether it truly was his fault or not. So why did he look like that now? Why would he blame himself for what Hojo had said?

"Mrs. Takahashi?"

Kagome snapped back to attention. She ignored the knowing look that Kouga was giving her and tried to listen. Turns out that ignoring her long lost mate is harder than she originally thought.

"Mrs. Takahashi. I hope that this -episode- hasn't made you rethink enrolling Takeru here for the next semester?"

The poor man looked almost embarrased to ask. She really had no where else to enroll him that was close to their home. All other schools accepting hanyou were boarding schools and there was no way she was going to send him off.

"I think that you've solved the problem adequately. Takeru will continue coming here."

After getting Takeru's things and settling everyone into the car, Kagome drove silently to the grocery store. Inuyasha gave her a questioning look when he realised she wasn't going straight home.

"Tonight is Takeru's night. I always get his favorite foods and movies for him. He's not going to get any sleep, he never does. This way he can have a little fun instead of being scared. Would you like me to get you anything? Tonight will be rough for you too."

Inuyasha turned facing forward again. He would wait in the car with Takeru. The little runt had fallen asleep on the way there.

Kagome leaned in through the window and waited for Inuyasha to answer her question. After minute she headed inside, knowing he was going to ask for Ramen anyway.

"Ramen! I could go for some ramen."

Kagome grinned the entire way into the store.

"MOMMA!!!!! He's eating all the ramen!!!!!!!!!! And he's not sharing!!!!!" Kagome groaned as she finished cleaning up the puddle of ice cream on the litchen counter. Ever since sundown Inuyasha had been gulping down the ramen. Takeru thought it was funny at first, until he realised that Inuyasha was quickly eating all of his favorite kind. Then things got messy.

Kagome walked into the living room to find both hanyou wrestling on the floor. Inuyasha was 'struggling' to get out from under Takeru. Takeru was sitting on Inuyashas chest and trying to pin Inuyashas hands to the floor. Boht were laughing as heard as they could. Empty ramen cups were smashed and thrown all over the living room. The tv was blaring some kind of cartoon Takeru had just had to have.

Sesshomaru was in his office doing kami knows what. Rin had followed him up, but she had looked exhausted. Apparently work had been rougher than usual. Kagome knew from experience that Rin was more than likely fast asleep in one of the gigantic chairs Sesshomaru kept in there. She just hoped the noise these two were making wasn't waking her up.

"Takeru! Inuyasha! You both need to pick up all these cups. Did you eat ALL of these?!"

Both of her men stopped wrestling on the floor to look around them. Seeing the destruction they had caused was enough to get Takeru hopping. Inuyasha bluched then snorted at her before grudgingly helping Takeru clean up the mess.

Two hours later found all three of them sacked out on the couch. Inuyasha's arm was flung out over the head of the couch, his hand resting around Kagomes arm, while Takeru was snuggled protectively between them both.

None of them knew that this night would be the last peaceful night any of them would have for a long time.
