Chapter Twenty

Inuyasha was scowling at none other than the great and fierce Sesshomaru. He wasn't mad at the foul youkai before him. He was furious about the news he had just recieved.

This morning had started up pretty well. Who wouldn't love waking up with his mate and pup? He had woken Takeru and helped him get ready for school, leaving Kagome snuggled under a blanket on the couch. Before he had left to walk Takeru to school Sesshomaru had stopped him and sent Takeru on alone.

"Your job has changed for the time being. Until this threat has been found and dealt with you will be assigned as Kagome's personal guard."

Inuyasha resisted the urge to growl. Everything in him was howling for blood. A note had been found early this morning. It simply said 'The hanyou loving bitch will die.'

So now he was to keep watch over Kagome. And no one was going to hurt his Kagome. Heads would roll first.

He was yanked out of his brutal thoughts when Sesshomaru's woman walked in. The tiny woman completely ignored him as she walked quietly over to speak to Sessomaru.

"I've called them. They told me that they would have to deal with a few things first, before they came. They should be here sometime this afternoon."

Sesshomaru nodded in approval at Rin, gaining a huge smile from the tiny woman. Inuyasha forgot about his earlier worries as he watched the odd exchange in a mixture of confusion and interest. These two were unusual. Sesshomaru treated Rin like she was a mate, but had not acknowledged it to any other youkai yet. While Rin was submissive and helpful, doing anything Sesshomaru asked of her. In return he protected her, even trusted her it seemed. If Sesshomaru was planning on making the tiny human his mate then why hadn't he done it yet? What was holding him back? Was it because she was human? He didn't want her as mate, only companion? That thought had Inuyashas youki growling again. No one as compassionate as Rin should be treated that way.

Apparently he had growled out loud also. Both Sesshomaru and Rin turned to look at him. He immediately calmed himself down. All his training seemed to be forgotten while he was here. What the hell was wrong with him?

"Was there anything else I needed to know?" As he spoke he pulled his shoulders back, standing at attention. The change was subtle and quick. He was going to do his best to keep from losing everything the last seven years had taught him. He needed it now more than ever. Because now it wasn't just someone who payed him that he had to protect, now it was his own mate.

Sesshomaru had just opened his mouth to respond when a black ball of fury strolled into the room.

Saying Kagome was mad would be like saying the sky was blue. True, but pathetically without emphasis. Inuyasha took the chance to stay where he was and watched the scene unfold. Kagome hadn't realised he was in the room yet.

"What the hell is going on Sesshomaru? Why am I not aloud out of my own home? And why are all the maids giving me pity looks." She had walked over to the large desk and had grasped the corners in a tight grip. "I don't do well with pity Sesshomaru. You of all people know that."

Sesshomaru let her have her little tirade. He wasn't entirely sure what she would say, but doubted that it would enter his half-brothers thick brain.

"I tried to go to the garden and a guard stopped me. He said I was not allowed out without your say so. But when I asked him why he wouldn't say a word. So I asked him to tell me where Takeru was. At school he said. What in the world has happend that is keeping me under house arrest and no one else? Oh! And WHAT IN KAMI'S NAME WERE YOU THINKING MAKING INUYASHA MY PERSONAL GUARD???!!!!!" That last bit made Sesshomaru frown harder than he normally did and Inuyasha's sensitive ears ring.

"Are you done now woman?" Kagome's nose flared at that, but she just nodded. Sesshomaru got up and walked to the front of the desk to look down at her. It was a tactic he used alot to intimidate her. When he used it that usually meant she had stepped out of line somewhere.

"One of the guards found a note early this morning. It was a threat to your life. Inuyasha is the only one I trust enough to protect you effectively. Most of these guards are human. Whoever sent the note made it past our outer security and was good enough to get into the house. The note was left on your bedroom window Kagome."

All the fight left her in a rush. She had many youkai show their hate for her, but most would not demeen themselves by trying to have her hurt or killed. This went above and beyond what any youkai would do to a human. But no human would have been able to get past the security around their house.

"We have called your friends and have invited them to come visit. They know what is going on and understand our need of them. This way no one will wonder why you have not gone on your daily run. They should be here shortly. Until then I suggest you get used to the idea of Inuyasha being your guard."

Sesshomaru walked back around his desk. He completely ignored her as he turned his attention back to the tiny woman who sat in his chair. Kagome turned and left, never noticing that the door she had slammed shut when she entered had been wide open.

"We're going to be late." She was talking to herself again. Never a good sign when she did that.

"Mommy?"

"Honey, we have to go." She knew they had to go, she just wanted to make sure they had everything they needed.

"Mommy?"

"I'm hurrying! I just have to-"

"MOMMY!!"

Both parents stopped what they were doing to look down at their violet eyed little girl. Her dark brown hair was in a high ponytail, so that when she shook her head her long thin hair whipped her cheeks.

"Where 'ee goin mommy?"

Sango sighed and knelt beside her daughter, Shinju. The little girl had never left home before. She had only started day care recently. So this sudden trip had scared her.

"Shinju, we all are going to go see a friend of Mommies and Daddies. Her name is Kagome. We haven't seen her in a long time." Sango made sure to stress the 'we all' part. Shinju was a tid bit attatched.

Miroku came back inside and grabbed the four year old, throwing her high into the air. He smiled as she giggled in delight. Miroku pulled her under his arm, holding her as if she was a sack of potatoes. He helped Sango up from the floor with his other hand.

He knew Sango was excited. They both were. He and Sango had married and moved shortly after graduation. They hadn't been able to visit Kagome since then. Sango talked to her alot on the phone or through emails, but it still wasn't the same as being able to see them and touch them.

"Will you be ok for the drive? It's a long one." Concern marred Mirokus features. Sango was 8 months pregnant and altough the morning sickness was long gone, she was still having to run to the restroom every little bit. This new baby seemed to be jumping on her poor bladder.

"I'll be fine Miroku. Are we packed?"

Miroku nodded as he held the door open for his very pregnant, very excited wife.
