Chapter 6
Day 3: A Softer Side

Inuyasha was the first to arise; looking over he could see his divergence sleeping soundly. Standing slowly, Inuyasha elongated his strong arms above his head, stretching his sore muscles. He added more firewood to the descending fire then decided to go for his morning hunt, only to clear his mind.

Stepping out into the early morning glow, he approached the cascading spray as he cupped his hands into the flowing falls, only to drink the fresh water. It was refreshing; he never contemplated how they were going to survive, without water, since they had nothing to boil it in; he could smell this water was indeed safe, while he drank generously. As the ice, cold water-cooled his quench for thirst. The early morning sun began to rise higher, and he could already feel the humidity, taking off his tattered shirt, he washed it then set it on the rocks to dry.

Not liking the way the soggy moss felt in between his toes, he decided to perch himself on a limb of an old Ginkgo tree that had survived the storm. The limbs were sturdy which would easily hold his weight. He overlooked his surroundings as he sat carefully on the thick branches of the highest limb. However, his thoughts plagued him, the lie he told Kagome the other day haunted him, how could he be just like his ex. Not to mention tried to take advantage of her; narrowing his golden lids, his thoughts puzzled him, ` Do I want more.'

He was fighting an inner battle; he recalled his ex-girlfriend Kikyo and how she broke his heart. He shook his head trying to erase the disturbing images, of Kikyo and his long time friend Bankotsu in the same bed as he came home from a long day at the office. Not wanting to watch, he hurriedly ran out the front door, slowly and silently closing it behind him. He would return when his friend left. He never shed a tear, just felt a coldness enter his heart, maybe he could forgive her if she would have been honest about it, and still she lied, when being confronted directly.

He hated recalling some images that would forever irk him, what was weighing heavy were now he had lied; yeah it was his job not to tell the truth. Moreover, maybe he thought by showing off that he was some big D.A. in Cleveland. He knew better; he was a divorce lawyer, one of the best in the states and he had never lost a case. So why had it been so tough to tell her the truth, and why had it become so hard to open up to this woman, had the scars of his previous relationship ruined him as a man? He shook his head in denial, `No the real reason is because she is so damn sexy when she is provoked, and you keep provoking her dumbass.' He growled intensely at his conscience.

Jumping down from his previous perch he landed gracefully on the moist surface, taking off in a sprint, he recalled last night as his demon side overpowered him; even then, she held very little fear and pushed him away, `If it wasn't for her damn scent.' He pondered, trying desperately to figure out why he was so attracted to the devil himself or in other words her. He dreaded the fierce wrath of this spirited woman when she found out the truth about his little deception, ` I will tell her tonight', as his guilt weighed heavy on him. Yet, all he could really distinguish was how much of a challenge she was, and he the fact he had never lost a dispute.

Kagome, woke up slowly, she could smell the nice aroma of cooked food, although she couldn't see Inuyasha anywhere. ` Oh how I would have loved to be in my bed right at this moment,' she complained trying to stand up, she felt stiff everywhere. `That's it I am finding more leaves.' She stretched trying not to let her ruin her already good mood.

Surprisingly when she stood up there was minimal pain in her foot, looking down she had noticed the swelling indeed died down. She was in awe, all her previous cuts and gashes were now closed she smiled they would not scar. She tested her limitations and began jumping up and down yelling “ no pain, no pain, oh thank you Inuyasha.”

“Your welcome,” She gasped then quickly turned around conspicuously staring at him

She tried to smile at him, she was thankful for his help. Nonetheless, she did not forget about last night's occurrence. Not really wanting to deal with him first thing waking up. Therefore, she turned her back on him, and went for her cooked meal. Picking up the juicy fowl, she noticed there was not a feather in sight, ` He cleaned these for you, knowing you didn't like too.' She smiled at his consideration, while picking at the tender meat, “Mmmm, this is really good Inuyasha.”

Ignoring her complement, he strode over to her, “I need to tell you something,” he said nervously, “And it's not good.”

She stopped chewing, `What in the world is his problem now.' Astonished she replied quickly, “ Coming from you why am I not surprised, entertain me Inuyasha what did you do now.”

He growled, but kept his cool and in his softest voice he replied, “Because, I lied to you.”

That got her attention she chuckled, as she arose only to come face to face with him. “Well first off we accomplished that I `m not your girlfriend and I'm certainly not carrying your child,” as she started poking her finger into his chest, “And thank the Gods for that one,” she stopped her torment on his chest, only to cross her arms, taking in a deep breath she narrowed her eyes at him. “ Hmmm let me guess, could it be about your job.”

He froze, bewildered on how intelligent this she-devil was before him, “It could be.”

She pushed away from him, “Well spit it out already, I don't have all day,” she snapped.

He snarled, as he came forth with his confession, “ Since you put it so nicely sweetheart, yeah it is about my job, I am not a prosecuting attorney, I happen to be a divorce lawyer.”

She contemplated his confession, then busted out laughing, “ Really Inuyasha, what were you trying to accomplish by telling me that you were a District attorney.“

“I don't know, it just came to mind and I blurted it out. You know its not funny, I happen to be the best one in the states, maybe you have heard of me Inuyasha Taro?”

“Nope sorry never heard of you, now if you will please go find something to do I would like to finish my breakfast, that is probably cold, then I am going to bathe. You better not peek either.” She said uncompromisingly then continued eating.

“So your not mad?”

“Surprisingly no,” she mumbled trying to chew her food, she swallowed, “ If you lie to me again, then were going to have issues. I just think its funny that you had to lie to me about your job.”

He snorted, “Well sweetheart what do you do for a living?” He questioned, while crossing his arms firmly around his chest.

“You know Inuyasha you have impeccable timing, I am trying to eat my cold breakfast, at least you can do is inquire me later, after I had my bath.” She barked, and then took another bite; the bird was juicy, moist, and cooked to perfection. She purred as the succulent meat hit her taste buds while quickly filling her eager stomach.

He ignored her then sat down at the edge of the entrance.

She turned expecting him to already have left, “ Inuyasha, how am I suppose to wash with you blocking my way.”

“Well maybe I don't want to leave, and perhaps I will depart once you answer my question.”

“ Isn't there a bone you need to be burying right now?” She seethed.

Growling he stood from his spot on the cold ground, staring at her intensely, he once again grabbed her shoulders, “Possibly bitch you didn't hear me, I am not going anywhere until you tell me what you do? What's so fucking hard about that is it that you're ashamed of where you work.”

“Well I guess your not leaving, but I am still not telling you until after I had my well deserved bath, and I wanted to have some privacy, still I have a big pain in my ass in the way,” she snarled, as she grabbed his ear, yearning a yelp. Dragging him out of the cave, “Now if you want to know be a good doggy and run along, go piss on some trees or something, just leave me the fuck alone for right now.” She demanded then let go of his ear, only to push him out.

Rubbing his sore ear, he exacted revenge, oh, he would let her have his privacy all right, but as soon as she was done, she would be his.

Souta had gone up to his mother's room, he and his grandfather found out about the flight on the evening news. Holding a silver tray, witch carried her breakfast, he could only hope she would eat. Knocking on the door loudly there still was no response. “Mom, please its me Souta come and eat, I know about Kagome, I know your upset, please mom I am begging you, open this door.” He cried.

“Still no response,” came a raspy voice from the older man. His morning black silk robe tied tightly to his round body. His gray hair, slicked back into a ponytail, his eyes were small and slanted, yet warm and full of love. It killed him inside hearing about his granddaughter, what made it worse was his own daughter locking herself inside her own room. Needing to be strong for the family, he would shed his tears behind closed doors.

Watching his grandson pained him, the short brown haired boy, lost his mom and his sister all in the same day, his eyes were red and swollen from crying himself to sleep. His heart sunk as of what was to become of the family, since they lost their anchor. “Souta, leave the tray, you go and rest.”

Souta did not argue, laying the tray down, next to the door; he ran off into his room slamming the door. He wailed into his pillow, praying that his mother would come back to him.

Shedding her attire, she felt the cold cascading water hit her soiled body. As she allowed the coldness of the water fall on her nude form, she couldn't help but think about her business, `God I hope Allison didn't fuck up, and Mary, poor Mary she must be taking this hard. What will become of my company that I worked so hard to build?'

After her bath, she hated putting on her soiled clothes, however they were the only ones she had to wear, she sighed `I really want to wash these… it's so cold.' She decided to call back that dog and make her take her to the beach, where the sun would warm her best. “ Inuyasha!” She waited, “Inuyasha!” She yelled, `Where the hell is he?'

“Oh the hell with him, I'll find my own way, she mumbled. Spinning around she tried to memorize her surroundings, `How hard can this be, I am on a small island in the middle of god knows where. `She contemplated, before finally turning right and headed straight into the thick foliage once again. Either way she took would take her to a nearby beach.

Her feet sank into to the goopy moss, as its gushed through her toes; she frowned, `Man I just had a bath too.' It didn't take long before she was wishing to be back on the soft ground instead of busted twigs from the recent storm. She had to climb over a couple of trees that did not stand the forceful winds. Oh, how she would give anything for her shoes again, the little twigs were like sharp knives engraving themselves into her bare skin. She wanted to cry, to turn around, and head back into the soft moss once more.

With her head held down in shame and remorse, she couldn't bare the fact that her now healed feet again needed the attention of a certain half demon. She shivered at the thought. She headed back to her camp, dreading asking Inuyasha for help. She knew he would just love that, the helpless weak woman. Growling she continued on her way out of the small thicket wincing in pain, she was grateful when she could feel the soft undergrowth between her feet.

She hated this hell-hole, and she wanted off, frustrated of her recent state, somehow along the way a twig ensnared her dress, and tore the side seam, showing off more flesh than she intended. To top it off she knew if she wasn't careful that tear is just going to keep growing, she could feel her self-loosing it.

Hair frizzed, scowl on her face, she made it back to camp with still no trace of Inuyasha, “That's great, just fucking great, he's not here! Inuyasha, you asshole!” She screamed.

“What's with all the profanity sweetheart?” He said coming up from behind her.

In a sinister laugh, she mocked him, “Well sweetheart, my fucking problem is I want off this shit-hole of an Island, and I want to know what you're going to do about it?”

“Me! Sweetheart if you haven't noticed I am not happing being here either! And where do you get off telling me what am I going to do about it! Nothing and do you want to know why,” he approached her coming closer to her face, “Because I can't!” Then he stormed away from her swiping what ever that came across his path.

Determined she turned to follow him, “Oh come on Inuyasha your saying that we can't come up with something to get us off this Island.”

He paused, actually I was waiting for my brother,” he said calmly.

“What, have you lost your mind? How in the hell is he going to find us? Were you hit in the head or something because the plane is at the bottom of the fucking ocean? How on earth is he going to find us, let alone anyone else.” She voiced, approaching Inuyasha grabbing his arm, her eyes closed slightly, rendering herself to stay calm, “ How do you know?”

He didn't want to tell her about his parents or about their brutal murder. Somehow, he knew that before the police came to the door, the strange thing his brother felt it too. Maybe if he told her, she wouldn't think him crazy. He squatted down, bringing Kagome with him. As she rested on her knees, he lost himself in her natural beauty.

“Inuyasha, what's the matter?”

He could see the softness in her face. Closing his eyes, he told her his past. “I was eighteen at the time, my mom and dad where murdered. My parents were on a business trip in Chicago, I guess they went out to dinner with a client, from what the police said that the conversation went sour. They never made it to there room.” He closed his eyes, as he fought his tears.

Kagome felt that she needed to comfort him; leaning forward, she embraced him tightly whispering in his ear, “ Inuyasha I am so sorry to hear of this.”

Drawing her in, “Its okay, its been a longtime.”

“Did they ever find who did this?”

He shook his head side to side, “No, the only clue they have is that he has a Spanish accent, you know how many people that could be.”

She couldn't help but ponder why he was telling her his personal business, “ I am sorry, I really am, and I do hope they find the bastard who did this to your parents.” As she rubbed, her hands up and down his back soothingly.

He sat there quiet and stunned; she was not the fierce woman before him but a kind and caring being. He brought her in closer than their bodies would allow, his warmth breath tickling her neck, “ Thank you. You don't know how much this means to me, however I never got to finish where I was going.” Breaking his embrace and bringing her eye level again he continued, “ The reason I have so much faith in my brother is because we're demons and have that kind of Esp. meaning he would know if I were to die, and vice versa.”

She sighed, at thought about her own family. She didn't want to think about how her mom was dealing with the information, she was sure that they already broadcasted it all over the news and in the newspapers. Her eyes lit up, there were probably search parties out looking for the crash.

Inuyasha watched the animated beauty before him. Curiosity surrendered to him so he asked, “ What's the matter?”

“I was thinking about my family.”

Bringing them off the forest floor, he hugged her tightly, “ I assure you we will go home, and if I know my brother he is already heading for the states, only to find reinforcements,” he chuckled

“Well I do hope you are right, what do we do now.” She expressed, freeing herself from his grasp.

Grabbing her again, he gazed upon her with seductive eyes, “Well I can think of one thing I would like to do with you,” he said, as he crashed his lips upon hers; feeling her lips respond back.

Rubbing his hands upon her backside, his fingers roamed around her locks, as one slide downward grabbing tightly to her cheek. She gasped feeling pressure on her rear. Feeling her unease, he released his grasp. He really didn't want to stop, her taste was exquisite, her body firm to the touch, and he did not want to push himself on her this time. He listened to her pant in protest, bringing his head down, he nipped at her neck, as he could feel her arms wrap around him once again, “ Kagome, you still haven't told me what you do, therefore we can't continue.”

She pushed away from him, “You know you really are an ass, what makes you think I was willing to go all the way with you, and if you want to know what I do I am an entrepreneur!” She yelled then walked away from him, still feeling flustered, `that bastard, but the sad thing is I probably wouldn't have been able to stop myself.' Sighing she made it back to camp. She then decided to go for a walk looking for fallen palms that now lie in the soft soil.

Asuka Higurashi lay in her bed; asleep, she awoke when hearing her son bang on the door, she listened to him begging her to open the door, then she heard her father. She couldn't help however to lie in bed and be a zombie to the world. She knew they had there best at heart; she wasn't ready to open hers just yet. Feeling the tears, shed down her face, she closed her eyes and let the slumber take over.

She awoke later in the day, her stomach rumbling, trying to get out bed, her legs became weak again, using the bed as her rail she slowly made it towards the closed door. A small smile appeared on her face, when she saw a tray of lunch sitting by her door, reaching down she picked up the tray. Making it back to the safety of her soft mattress, she ate her warm soup, and drank some water they had also left her.

After eating her fill she glanced over at the phone, she unplugged it as soon as she entered her room. She could still hear it ring downstairs, she wanted badly to pick it up in hopes that they had indeed found her daughter, but to no avail, no comforting news came.

Moving her tray to the side of the bed, she got up once more and plugged her phone jack back into the wall, picking up the phone she was happy that no one was on the other end. She dialed the number; she hesitated for a minute when a voice on the receiving end announced their name. Finding her voice, she gave the woman on the other line, her daughters name, age, relationship, address, and phone number. She sighed, when they told her that they still have no whereabouts of the crash they would call with further information. Hanging up she lied back down in her bed, closing her eyes once more, praying that someone would find her baby.

Nighttime soon fell over the camp, after a hearty meal; Kagome made her bed with the extra green mats. She complained, “Damn floor, damn mats.”

“What's the matter sweetheart?”

“I think you are well aware what is the matter Inuyasha,” she seethed.

“Come here!” He demanded, giving her a threatening glance.

“No, what do you want?”

He laugh quietly at her stubbornness, “ If you don't get your ass up I coming over there and making sure you do!”

Turning her head away from him she just laid there ignoring him, she didn't even realize that he was leering behind her.

Before she could protest, he scooped her up and had her tightly in his arms making his way back over to his resting spot he carefully positioned himself up against the firm wall with her tightly in his grasp. “Now go to sleep,” he swayed.

Every time she would try to wiggle out of his strong grasp he would growl or hold her tighter. She gave up, leaning against his bare chest, she couldn't help but stare at his hairless upper body, she wanted to run her hands up and down his rippled abs. Defeated, she tried to get comfortable, it seemed he could sense this, loosening his grip only for her to find the right spot, then would tighten them again. She closed her eyes, as her arms wrapped around his neck while her head rested in his shoulders. She felt safe and warm; she could get use to this.
