Chapter 18
The Vines of Wrath
One hand rested firmly on the back of Kagome's legs. While Inuyasha clawed his way from side to side, making a passage through the dense vegetation. Sweat dripped from his very brow, and the small parasites took advantage of his moisture. Inuyasha tried swatting the small flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects. In addition, he still managed to swipe the thick foliage with his deadly claws. He swore with every swipe of the thick vines. That he would have his vengeance and would slay anything green out of pure spite.
They were running strong, until he decided to head towards sound of thunderous noise. Unfortunately, the echo of the dogs drew closer. It seemed like hours, and he was becoming agitated. `By this rate, we will be caught.' He couldn't let that happen. He even tried to drown out Kagome's annoying behavior, but it was useless.
Kagome wasn't handling any of this in stride. He who was her savior was now her worst nightmare. He refused to put her down. She also could feel the branches poke and snag on to her clothing. She had enough, “Inuyasha?” she asked softly.
“What!” he snapped panting heavily. `Here we go again.'
She narrowed her eyes angrily due to his disgruntle mood. Although she couldn't blame him. Still he didn't need to take it out on her. She sighed, and submitted, “Inuyasha, can I please get down now?” She figured she would try the nicer approach, since her tantrums weren't working.
He rubbed her leg sensually, but his answer was firm, “No!”
“What! How dare you keep me up here? I can walk you know?” she spat. “I'm tired of being bait for these hungry bugs! I'm tired of floppy around like a carcass over you shoulder…you…you Neanderthal!” Her temper was getting the better of her, and she didn't care. Her tyrant didn't stop there, “Don't you think you could have picked a better way? I mean look at my arms, cut up and bleeding. I'm not some banquet open for supper Inuyasha! Mind you that they are now eating me alive!” she huffed, “If you even care?”
`A Neanderthal now that's a new one,' he mused. “Sweetheart lets get something's straight! First off, I wasn't handed a map of the Amazon, now was I?” He paused waiting for her to make another snide remark. He smiled when she didn't rebuke. “Second your not getting out of my grasp, no matter how much you insult me!”
“And the third?” she asked, yet her tone held sarcasm. Knowing him there would be a third question, or more like demand. She sighed as he continued, as she knew he would.
“The third is that your still alive and just deal with the bugs, because they're not going away. Now, will you stop your incisive whining? Cause babe you're killing my ears.”
“No! I'm going to annoy the hell out of you…that is until you put me down.” She would; at any means necessary get her way.
He growled, “It still won't change my mind! And, I will just ignore you anyways. Therefore, you might as well save your energy. So you will be ready for me tonight.”
“Huh, like I'm going to sleep with you!”
“I have my ways of persuasion sweetheart.”
Kagome spat venomously, “Persuasion, my ass! It will be a cold day in hell before I let you touch me again Inuyasha!”
“Yeah! Yeah! You'll be screaming my name when I fuck your brains out tonight.”
“Insufferable dog!”
“You'll find out just how insufferable my claws will be tonight while your withering underneath me.”
Kagome huffed; she couldn't deny that Inuyasha did have talented hands. Not to mention he did know how to use them in all the right ways. However, she needed to be strong. Her face felt warm, just thinking about being with him. `Be strong.' She tried to encourage herself but she was failing miserably. “Just shut up!”
“You first,” he laughed slightly.
“Let me down… Then I will shut up.”
“Nope! Sorry sweetheart not happening,” he growled. However, his voice was dominating.
“Oh! You are so in the doghouse.”
Inuyasha just chuckled, he could see golden rays peak through the vegetation. He smirked, `Finally, just a few more swipes and we'll be out of this nightmare.' He turned his back sniffing the air. Catching their scent, he swore. “Shit!” They were closer than he realized.
“Well it's about time you agreed with something I've said.” Kagome chastised.
He grunted, as he swiped the final vines, with one last powerful slash of his claws, he almost lost his balance when the trail ended abruptly. His eyes widened. “Oh fuck!” One more step and he would have went over the ledge. The drop was a good twenty feet.
“What's the matter now? Turn around Inuyasha…let me see. Hey, what is that? Is that water?” She was suddenly happy, ecstatic to be exact. `At last I can cleanse myself. There is a God.'
He growled, she was pushing all his buttons. Yet, he still wasn't going to put her down. “Now is that anyway to talk to me? I do recall that bath that you wanted.” Although he didn't want to admit that, he was scared to death. Since she still didn't realize they were standing at the edge of a cliff.
He looked over the precipice. `That was close,' he thought, as he wiped his brow. He did have to admit that the scene before him was breathtaking. There was a clearing, where he could see the raging river, and its strong current.
Surrounding them were trees of great size, alive with wildlife, and home to colorful birds. Monkeys sat in the branches, lazily. While young ones played, jumping—back and forth—on the thick branches. On the other hand, they would find a sleeping adult, who'd later wake with a loud screeching noise? Inuyasha instantly flattened his ears, but chuckled nonetheless. It reminded him of his family long ago, when him and his brother would wrestle. White birds flew past them, distracting him out of his thoughts as he watched them land near the riverbank, catching their meal.
He balanced himself, on the slippery ledge. Kagome couldn't see, and was becoming frustrated, she tried to move her head around his back so she could take in her surroundings. “Why did we stop?” He didn't answer, “I asked you a question? Turn around so I can see also!”
Inuyasha was about to respond when a gunshot whizzed by them, causing her to scream. The sapling next to them snapped in two, from the guns powerful blast. “Shit! No time to explain now Kagome,” he said frantically, as he looked for an escape route.
He turned around, hearing Kagome screaming, and punching on his lower back. “Do you want me to put you down now love? Or would you like to be in my arms a bit longer?” he asked plainly. His main objective was escaping.
She didn't expect the fact that she was merely dangling over the ledge, the only person holding her was Inuyasha. “NO! Don't you dare put me down! Pull me up!”
He chuckled, “The only way out of this bind love, is to jump.”
“WHAT!”
“Don't worry you will be safe with me.”
She could feel herself, being pulled towards his chest. “Wrap your arms and legs around me. Keep them tight Kagome, and don't let go.” She did as requested and closed her eyes-very tightly-trusting him completely.
Inuyasha turned and was about to jump, when a strange voice called him: “Inuyasha? Where do you think your jumping off too?” The eccentric man chuckled.
“Who the fuck wants to know?”
“Tsk, tsk, that is no way to talk to someone in company of a pretty lady.” The man stepped out of the bushes, gun aimed at them. “Right Kagome? My boss said you're a dish, but damn!”
“Get to the point asshole! And how do you know who we are?”
“It doesn't matter who I'm. What matters is that you come back alive. Unfortunately I don't see the fun in that,” he chuckled. “But you see, I can't have you jump and damage Kagome. So I insist that you put her down.” He cocked the trigger back on his gun. “Besides, your blood splattered on her would displease my boss, and frankly I don't like displeasing him.”
Inuyasha growled, gripping Kagome tighter. He didn't like this guy, not one bit. He sniffed the air; there was a familiarity to him. He tried to put the scent with the face. He smirked, “You're that man I saw with the cops. I new you were dirty. Tell me how much are they paying you for kidnapping innocents?”
He laughed, “You fool. I'm not a cop, although they are owned by my boss.”
“Inuyasha-” Kagome, listened intently to their conversation. Her heart raced frantically inside her chest; she suddenly felt faint. She clung to him tighter. `Who was this man, and more so who was his boss?' She breathed in and out calming herself, `It couldn't be Naraku? Inuyasha killed him. I don't recognize him onboard the boat.' She frowned, `But what if Naraku didn't die?'
“Look I don't know or care who your boss is, or that you have cops to help you out in the long run—with whatever it is that you do. But Kagome and I are going home and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it!” Inuyasha knew he was up shit creek without a paddle. However, the bluff served its purpose: deceive the enemy, or so he thought. `It sounded good at the time.'
Kagome began gathering pieces in her head, like a jigsaw puzzle. “Inuyasha?” She was trying so hard to get his attention. She felt sick, and could swear that her face was ghostly white.
The man moved closer, “Inuyasha, it won't matter here in bit. You'll meet my boss, soon enough.” He pointed to his ear, “Ah, is that dogs I hear? That was quicker than I expected.”
“Fuck!” Inuyasha shouted.
“INUYASHA-!” Kagome screamed this time. She knew that he would yell at her due to his sensitive ears; still she needed to get his attention. She had yet to be put down—she would reprimand him later.
“What!” he snapped.
“Its Naraku…Naraku is his boss!” Her eyes swelled up with unshed tears, as she clung to him tighter; she was frightened.
Inuyasha's eyes opened widely, “What? Are you certain?”
“Yes! Think about it. Who else knows where here, and knows are names?”
`Shit!' She was right, it made sense…Naraku was a demon-a mutilated mass of demons.' He gripped her tighter, he wasn't about to stick around, and fall into that bastards hands again. “Hold on Kagome.” He whispered in her ear, feeling her tighten around him, and he on her. Looking at the man, he narrowed his golden orbs angrily at the man before him. “You can tell your boss Naraku to go fuck off!” he smiled one last time before he jumped.

Naraku stepped inside the small home. He could tell that this woman was a kind woman, when she shyly smiled at him. “Good Afternoon, my name is Naraku…and yours?” he asked, though his tone held pure malice. He smiled, while contemplating whether she would live through this session. He was feeling generous, not to mention anxious to get on with the hunt.
Alessandra's heart almost stopped, when the two men entered her home. She could tell by the way they were dressed, and how they carried themselves. That they weren't especially friendly and very thankful that her family wasn't around to witness what's to come. Yet, she wanted the comforts of her husband beside her as well.
She shrugged of the thoughts, as she watched the man who called himself Naraku sit across from her. The other man with the long braid stood by the door. She smiled, or tried to. “My name is Alessandra.” She didn't know what to do, where they here to kill her? She tried to break the tension, and having them in her home—even as vile as they were—she had manners. She could only hope to be on their good gracious. “Can I get you two something to drink?”
Naraku smiled, “No. I didn't come here for hospitality my dear.”
Alessandra froze; she blinked her eyes and began fidgeting with her hands, “Why are you here?” she asked trying to mask her fear.
Naraku chuckled, “Tell me about the girl, you helped.”
“Why are you so adamant on knowing about that poor girl? I called the police because there was a creature in my back yard! The girl was his companion, but the way she looked it was more like forced!” She paused, “I'm sorry I fainted, when I looked into the Diablo's golden eyes. I thought for sure he was going to kill me…funny if you think about it. I have no idea how I even got back in bed.”
Naraku loved to feel the fear radiate off her being. `So Inuyasha, she thinks you're the devil.' He smirked slightly. He couldn't leave a witness behind, in case the two he was pursuing came back, only to warn them of his presence. She did seem fond of the girl. He frowned, “I'm feeling generous today and I will let you go.” With that said he stood up, and walked over to Bankotsu. “Kill her.”
“Wait…you said you were letting me go?” Alessandra panicked.
Naraku laughed, “And I'm not the one that's going to kill you am I? So, basically I did let you go…I just didn't say how.” He walked out the door, “Be quick about it!”
Alessandra stood quickly. She looked around frantically, hoping to find something to maim him. She glanced over at him as he was placing a silencer on his gun. She saw a sharp knife. Quickly she grabbed it, and decided to attack him first.
Unfortunately, he was already aiming the gun at her. Pulling the trigger the bullet pierced her heart. Dropping the knife, she fell to her knees. Closing her eyes, she took in her last breath. Her lifeless body lay on the wooden floor, as a crimson puddle began to pool around her.
Bankotsu smiled, and then retreated out the door. He'd felt no remorse. Grabbing the leashes of the two dogs, he gave them a firm yank. The dogs obediently stood, shook, and then followed them. Bankotsu grabbed the blanket, sitting on the bench, before he retreated out the room. He would give it to the dogs, to refresh their scent of their prey.
With a loud howl, they were off. Naraku chuckled, loving the adrenaline of the chase. Him being a demon, jumped with ease over the hazardous trail. He was impressed Bankotsu kept up.
Bankotsu was deep in thought-yet aware of his surroundings-as he moved with ease through the jungle. He knew that Inuyasha was his friend, but how he actually loathed him. A deep seeded jealousy struck his pride. Inuyasha got the one person he ever actually loved: Kikyo. He smiled, he did get the girl—stole her right from under his nose. `More than one occasion, might I add?' Of course all good things came crashing down, when Inuyasha found out about it. Now Kikyo was nowhere to be found. He didn't even think Inuyasha went looking for her.
He became bitter after that, and found someone who took all his sorrows away. He didn't know really why he came to South America. Already in the police force, he decided to get away from everyone, everything; that stopped him from doing what he loves to do now: and that was kill. He took out his anger with any means necessary out on criminals back at home. But, wasn't allowed to take a life. Here it was different, Naraku was a butcher himself, and his boss.
Bankotsu also knew that Naraku was the one behind the Taro's murder. How ironic, that Inuyasha would fall into his very hands. `Then fate bringing me a chance to get my retribution, for losing Kikyo a second time.' He laughed sardonically.
They came across a clearing with an officer waiting with a dog. “Tell me why are you here and not with the other men?” Naraku asked, as slowly looked around the surrounding area. His nose twitched with the recent scents of their copulation. `So Bonita, you like to play? I can't wait to show you how much fun I'm to play with.” He laughed evilly. His on-lookers watched him with confused expressions. “Let's go, their not far ahead of us.”
Bankotsu looked at the other officer shrugging his shoulders, `I wonder what irked him?' Instead on dwelling on the `what ifs,' he took off after Naraku.
Naraku was seething, `how dare that filth touch what is mine.' He couldn't wait to kill the half-demon. `Or better yet have him killed while he's watching me fuck her.' So many delicious scenarios played in his head. Yet, that one was the most enticing of them all.
The sound of a gunshot rang off in the distance. “What the hell!” He took off leaving the others in his wake. There was no time, if that fool Hiten hurt her in anyway, he would pay with his life.
