Chapter 37

Inuyasha breathed in a sigh of relief when he could see the small plane resting upon the sandy beach. He glanced over at his two companions and was pleased that Hiten was slightly recovering from the previous accident.

“How’s your head?” Inuyasha asked, while stripping off his shirt. He was heading straight for the ocean; wanting to get the ash off his face and body, and he certainly didn't care about getting his pants wet; after all, he had his brother's clothing to change into.

“I've got one hell of a headache, but I'll live.” Hiten remarked, as he began to take off his shoes and socks. “The salt water should clean it out pretty good.”

“It's going to burn like hell,” Shippo chided.

“Whatever! Let's just hurry the hell up! God knows if Kagome is with that Bastard right now.”

Shippo and Hiten remained silent as they entered the ocean.

Before boarding, they went through Sesshomaru’s luggage. Now each one of them was dressed in shorts and shirts. Inuyasha laughed at his brother's taste in clothing: it was always expensive and looked like something that people wore in the Florida Keys. Inuyasha shook his head at his now borrowed clothing. He hated it, hated the Hawaiian style floral shirts and hated the khaki shorts. He now looked like a tourist. “This is what I have to wear to kill Naraku. The minute he sees me, he's going to die of laughter.”

“We look no better my friend. I have to say, your brother is in need of a serious make-over.”

Hiten laughed at Shippo, he couldn't help but agree. “Well maybe I can get us something at our next stop.”

Before discarding his own pants, Inuyasha reached into his pocket, pulled out his silver bracelet, placing it on his wrist. He certainly didn’t want to stand out in case any one from Naraku’s minions recognized him or the others. He looked around cautiously ignoring the sound of amusement in the background. He growled and looked at his fox friend. “Shippo…you and Hiten get inside and start the plane.” He commanded quickly; he had an uncertain feeling that someone was watching them. However, there was no one around that he could smell.
Shippo did not argue as he pulled over the shirt. The look in Inuyasha’s eyes meant trouble and he wasn’t going to question it until later. He nodded then grabbed his clothes on the beach and approached Hiten. “Here,” he said giving Hiten his clothes. “Get inside and ask questions later.”

Shippo watched them get inside, and began to push the plane off the sandy beach. Once the plane was floating on the surface, he turned it around facing the open ocean. He then quickly entered the cockpit and started the engine. The propeller roared to life, as the plane shook. He pressed the yoke forward, and with rapid speed, they began to ascend into the air.

Shippo turned the yoke sharply to the left. “So, what was that about?” Shippo inquired, glancing behind his shoulder at Inuyasha.

“I don’t know, but I had a bad feeling.” Inuyasha remarked as he glanced out the window, looking down at the beach and surrounding areas. He breathed in a sigh of relief that he was just being paranoid. He couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary; accept the black smoke and the emergency crew. ‘Maybe, that’s what I felt,’ he thought with relief.

Inuyasha leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes lost in thought. It was only a matter of time, before they finished their deal in Venezuela, returned to Guyana, and await Rin and Sesshomaru. He frowned and hoped that his brother’s plan was flawless and no harm would befall them. Sesshomaru’s plans were usually immaculate and they’ve survived many wars because Inuyasha listened to his elder brother. Opening his eyes, he suddenly felt the plane descending and realized that they had landed. ‘We’re here already?’he growled softly.

“Did you have a nice nap, Inuyasha?” Shippo asked with amusement as he opened his door.

Inuyasha grumbled, as he left the suitcase next to his seat. He arose from his seat and stood up crouching, as he opened the door. Stepping onto the pontoon, he walked to the front of the plane and jumped off, landing in the shallows.

Shippo turned to Hiten who was standing next to him and asked. “Nice plane, isn’t it a DHC-3-T Turbo Otter?

“Yep that is my baby,” Hiten said with enthusiasm.

“I haven’t flown one of them since the sixties when they first were invented.” Shippo said with excitement ignoring the growling from Inuyasha, who seemed uninterested in the conversation. Shippo decided not inquiring further about Hiten’s plane. They were on a mission and didn’t have a lot of time on their hands. Shippo automatically felt bad for his lack of respect towards his friend. He wanted to apologize, but soon was distracted as he listened to Hiten.

“I cannot believe its still here and untouched.” Approaching the plane, he realized that he no longer had the keys. He had left them in the hotel room. “Shit” he cursed, as he pulled on the door. “My keys are gone.”

Inuyasha smirked as he stood on the float and punched in the window, which rendered their problem.

“I can't believe you just did that! You know how much that is going to cost?” Hiten exclaimed as Inuyasha walked by him with a smug look.

After opening his door, he pulled out a satellite phone and the stash of coke in the backseat. “Here,” he called out as Inuyasha came and retrieved the duffle bag and the phone.

Once on shore, Hiten glared at Inuyasha while retrieving his phone. Looking down at the receiver he dialed the number of his arms dealer. With a brief conversation he hung up. “They’ll be here in ten minutes.”

“Sesshomaru...?” ; Kagome called after him. They had already made the exchange and it broke her heart to see another woman get caught up in this mess she was currently in.

Sesshomaru stopped and turned his head; Rin tucked safely in his arms. He didn't say anything, but a silent thanks shown clearly in his eyes.

Kagome felt it was her time to say something since Sesshomaru clearly wasn't. She also thought that this would maybe be their last encounter. For she was now in Naraku's care and she shivered disgustingly at the thought, but she refused to cry, to show weakness in front of Naraku, and especially in front of Inuyasha's older brother. “I'm sorry. I am truly sorry that I caused your mate distress.”

Naraku grabbed her arm firmly, “I think its time we get going bonita.”

Kagome pulled away, “No! Not until I finish what I have to say.”

Naraku pulled back and nodded his head for her to continue.

Kagome turned her attentions back to Sesshomaru. “I also am so sorry about Inuyasha, he was a great man....” Kagome stopped as she listened to Naraku snarling next to her. Before she had time to blink Naraku grabbed her throat and began squeezing it tightly. She instinctively brought her hands and grabbed at his wrists trying to dislodge him. However, it was useless and her vision started becoming blurry, and her body was protesting the need for oxygen.

Sesshomaru growled loudly and made a step towards Kagome.

Naraku turned his head sharply glaring at the taller demon. “If you come any closer, I'll kill her where she stands.” Naraku smiled seeing Sesshomaru back away towards his mate. He turned his attention to Kagome, loosening his grip around her throat letting her windpipe collect its well needed oxygen. He listened to her pant, cough, and then tightened his hands again. “My lovely bonita, why do you make me so angry. Inuyasha. Blah. That perro is dead, I am the one who put that mutt out of his misery. Do you understand? That name is never to be in my presence again.” He smiled as she shook her head 'yes' and then loosened his hands; letting her breath. “Do you Kagome? Do you understand the consequences if you do not heed to my warnings.”

Kagome pulled back, and instantly brought her left hand to her throat as she rubbed it gently. “Yes...” she hissed. “I understand perfectly!”

With a smile gracing Naraku he turned his attention to Sesshomaru, “So, your still here? I thought for sure that you would have left sooner, now that you have your mate safely returned to you.”

Sesshomaru only growled at the monster in front of him; desperately wanting to rip his tongue out of his mouth, so he wouldn't hear any more arrogance spewed from it. He glanced over at Kagome watching her desperately trying to breathe. “Thank you Kagome, I will be back for you.”

Naraku laughed, “We will certainly relish in the company as one such as powerful and rich as you are. I am sure we will,” he glance at Kagome, “won't we?”

Sesshomaru didn't say anything just led his mate back down the path and into the woods.

Kagome watched him go and now, she was truly alone with this monster. However, she was curious to know how he could be still alive, so she asked. “How are you still alive? In-u,” she paused catching her slip up. “He killed you, I watched him . . . he broke your fuckin' neck!”

Naraku just smiled ignoring her and continued to watch Sesshomaru disappear into the depths of the forest. His smile grew as well as the malicious intent visible in his soulless eyes.

Kagome caught sight of this, and her eyes widened in fear; she had no choice but to try and warn him, know matter what happened to her. She owed it to Inuyasha to keep his brother safe. 'And by hell or high water' that is what she intended to do! “Sesshomaru! Get out of there . . . it's a trap!”

Sesshomaru stopped walking when he heard Kagome screaming at him. He had already figured that information out sooner. He glanced down at his mate and pulled her close to her embracing her. He pulled away and glared into her loving brown eyes. With determination, he was going to succeed where Naraku's arrogance failed him. Lifting Rin into his arms and with confidence in his eyes; he ran hard and fast, through the path, towards the awaiting men hiding within the branches.

Kagome cupped the right side of her face where Naraku had hit her. Hatred scorched deep within her eyes: oh how she wished that she could throw that bastard off the ravine, then maybe, he would finally die. However, as much as the thought pleased her, she knew that she was no were near the strength that he was. Taking in deep breaths, she wiped away the new abrasion on the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand.

Standing up with shaky legs, she was determined not to grace Naraku's presence with fear and anguish. Inuyasha was dead and she be dammed if the same fate happened to Sesshomaru and Rin. She stood up to Naraku, with her small fists by her waist clenching them tightly. “You have me, isn't that enough? Huh? Let them go....” She questioned logically.

Naraku chuckled and was quite turned on by the hatred in her eyes, harbored at him. “You know I can't let that happen, as much as I am wiling to do for you, this I am sorry cannot be one of them.”

“You vile bastard, and why not? Wasn't it enough killing Inuyasha? That you have to kill Sesshomaru too?” she spat, venom lacing her voice.

Naraku faced her again, and punched her in the nose. “I don't have to explain myself to you Kagome! And didn't I tell you to refrain from using that perro's name ever again.”

Kagome whined slightly clenching her teeth together and bearing the pain, she stood again. 'You can hit me, rape me, do your worse to me Naraku, but I promise you this, that I will not break so easily.' With shaky hands she wiped her bloody nose and asked again, “Why can't you let him live?”

Naraku huffed in frustration and then growled. “My dear it is just a smart security measure. You know very well I can't have him come back and rescue you. Can I?”

The minute he said that, gunfire rang off in the distance.

Kagome turned wild eyes searching the darkness of the forest. “Sesshomaru!” Kagome cried out, as she fell to her knees. “No...” She wailed, “not him too?”

Naraku smiled as he tasted the air, and the scent of blood, he was confident that his men successfully succeeded with their jobs. There was no reason to stay now, and he knew that his men would report back to him once they disposed of the bodies. He turned and looked at Kagome who was now weeping. He shook his head and then grabbed her arm forcing her to stand up. “Come Bonita, lets go and get you cleaned up.” He said, almost sounding concerned, “you're a mess, and your bleeding all over yourself.”

Kagome pulled out of his stronghold with a disgusted look across her face; she smiled cruelly as she wiped the blood away from her mouth. “Since when did you care abut my well being? Huh?” she asked venomously as he pushed her forward.

Naraku wasn't phased by her bantering and he couldn't wait to get to his mansion and show her fear. He was being easy on her, and he didn't understand why. He had waited all this time to finally have her in his clutches, to finally feel her skin and the scent of her fear. However, this time, she wasn't afraid and it bothered him. He wanted to question her, to beat her into submission, and to remind her that he was a monster, sick and cruel, and that she should fear him. Instead she questioned him, mocked him, and fought him. She apparently didn't fear death, at least not by his hand. However, he did notice the irresistible scent of fear when the gun shots tore throughout the forest. Unfortunately for him, now there wasn't anyone in South America that he could bribe and use his persuasion to send fear into the woman.

He growled distastefully as he watched her walking in front of him, while they headed down the steep ravine and away from the river. He never did answer her question as to why he hit her; he felt that he didn't need to explain himself, nor did he care to explain why he had apologized in the first place. Also, it annoyed him a great deal when they were near the falls, and she kept looking back to see if anyone came out of the dense vegetation. This unnerved him a great deal; he wondered what happened to Koga when the wolf didn't appear with Kagome as originally planned, but he just assumed that Sesshomaru took care of him first, which saved him the trouble of killing him, himself.

Kagome kept walking and looking for any thick fallen branch to hit him over the head with. However, even if she did manage to beat him senseless, she couldn't. With Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and even poor Shippo dead, there was no way she could survive the jungle by her self. She frowned, 'I wonder if Rin died with her mate?' She could feel tears wanting to fall, and she tried everything to force them back. This was no time to break down; she need to remain strong, focused, and rational.

Looking back she scowled at Naraku, and then tripped over a small rock. She cursed the rock and ignored the laughter behind her. 'Bastard!' she thought as she wiped the slow trickle of blood from her nose. “Why is it Naraku...” she said questionably, “that when a man hits a woman, he's got to hit her in the fucking face?” She smiled as Naraku was silent behind her. Was it pride that was keeping her going, knowing that somewhere, some realm, Inuyasha was with her? She didn't know, and tried not to think about him as badly as she wanted too. Her eyes narrowed and her eyes stung wanting to shed the tears she so needed to morn for her beloved lost to her from the murdering bastard behind her. The very thought infuriated her, and she wanted to hurt him as he hurt her. However, she was weak, and knew that strength alone wouldn't defeat him, but she was a cunning, ruthless business woman and maybe, just maybe, thinking about Inuyasha would keep her alive and strong to overcome the unforeseen obstacles
that Naraku had planned for her.

Maybe she was over analyzing everything and she just needed to keep focused and clear headed. She needed to think about all the fallen debris around her that taunted her, or to watch her step from the slippery rich soil, or perhaps swat the small gnats that seemed to be drawn to her blood. However, the one thing she never expected was for Naraku to answer her question.

“Why is it Bonita that you're mad at me for harming your face, when you've in all honesty done worse to my person.”

Kagome chucked darkly, “I have no remorse ... I had to do what I needed to insure that Inuyasha's and I escaped from your psycho--!”

Naraku grabbed the back of her long raven hair and yanked her hard, and towards him. His clawed hand finding a secure place around her neck. His face was inches from hers and he smiled when he could hear the rapid beating of her heart. His free hand began to wonder up the front of her stomach, feeling her body tense, he smiled some more and then he began to squeeze her right breast as he spoke with a hidden fury underlining his voice. “My lovely bonita? What will I have to do to erase that perro's name from your vocabulary? Hmm?” He squeezed her breast harder, as he listened to her whimper in pain.

Kagome couldn't stop the feeling of nauseousness when he touched her, she might have said that she was strong enough to deal with the new arrangements, but now she knew that is was just a useless pep talk. Fear struck deep in her heart and soul, and wished to God Inuyasha was still alive only to rescue her as he did so many times before. “I'll never bow down to your wishes Naraku!” she said with as much bravery as she could muster.

He could feel her fight him and it caused a pleasurable action stirring in his pants. He was having a hard time controlling himself and just wanted to shed the garments off her body and fuck with such force and fury that would make her wish to never mention Inuyasha's name again, but he couldn't so he snarled instead. He could smell that she was in heat, and as much as the thought excited him, and not to mention rid her of that perro's scent, he couldn't. He didn't dare want to sire a child, so he would be patient and wait. “Such big words Bonita,” he snarled, “just remember that I was the one who murdered your precious perro, that it was by my order and command that he's not here to help you.” His hand left her throat and sensually moved down her upper body and finding her breasts he began to squeeze it. “I will rid you of your happiness, your freedom, and that ridiculous stench of that half breed.” His other hand began to move sensually down towards her pants and he laughed hearing her startled expression and the panic in her heart. Her body tensed under his touch and he relished in the moment. “Each time you speak his name, it will be my fingers pleasuring you, my flesh inside you, and my mouth on you.”

Kagome's eyes widened with fear and she knew Naraku was going to rape her and she needed to escape this monster. She couldn't stomach the touch of him any longer, nor did she want to hear his insidious words. A plot was forming in her mind, and decided that she was going to take her chances in the jungle, than with Naraku. With her adrenaline already on high alert, she knew that she only had one chance to escape him. If she failed...well, Kagome steeled her face, she was going to die trying.

With reflexes she didn't knew she possessed, she quickly swung around her elbow careening it in his face. The reflexes were instant and he let go of her. Without thinking and with him distracted, she brought her knee up between his legs with sheer force, as she watched him hold his genitals and fell to the ground. Looking around quickly she spotted a fallen rotting branch covered in moss. Luckily for her it was easy to retrieve as she watched the bugs and leaves fall off; she didn't care and swung her bat full force against the side of his skull, with a sicking crack. However, she wasn't done yet, “This one's for Inuyasha!” she yelled bringing the stick down across his ribs, “and this one's for Sesshomaru and Rin!” she snarled, while digging the rotting stick into his stomach. Feeling her energy drain, she dropped the stick and turned running down the slope.

She didn't look back at the bloody mess of Naraku, and she didn't think he was dead. At first she wanted to turn and run towards the entrance that her and Sesshomaru came out of, but that's where Naraku's men awaited her, not to mention Koga, and she surly didn't want to run into him again. Not wanting to take her chances on the main trail, she quickly looked back making sure Naraku was nowhere around, she turned a sharp right and disappeared into the jungle.

“Listen asshole! I've had just enough of your games!” Inuyasha snarled as his claws dug deeper in the side of the arm dealers neck. He didn't care that there were guns pointing at him, either. He ignored everyone around him, including Shippo, who was trying to calm the situation down. He narrowed his eyes towards the arms dealer, “I should have know all along that you were a snake!” His ears quickly tuned to the men behind him, and the clicking of their guns. “You do realize senior that if your men pull the trigger, I am not going to be the only one who dies.” Inuyasha smiled as realization adorned the other guys face. After hearing a Spanish order, he glanced around to see the men lowering their rifles and semi automatics. “Smart man. Now let's get on with business. We need these guns, and you want the coke.” He looked at the bag again and returned his menacing glare towards the man. “Hell... I'd say it's at least worth, half a mil or more? All in all it's a good deal. Now, give us our weapons, take the coke, and have a good day. Either way this goes, ... I win!”

With their bags securely strapped to their shoulders Inuyasha kept looking over his and was happy to see the jeep drive away. He had the feeling that this deal was too good to be true, and when Hiten backed away from the deal, he knew it was time to take over. However, something unexpected happened; sirens could be heard fairly close. Inuyasha and the others whipped their head around quickly, only to see the arm dealer beginning to fire at the police. “Fuck!” Inuyasha said with an alarming tone. “This is not the time or the place to get caught. I think it's time we pick up the pace.”

“I couldn't agree with you more,” Shippo stated, “and we didn't even get new clothes out of the deal.”

“Shippo... I don't think the cops care what we are wearing. Get your head out of your ass, grab Hiten, and let's get back to the plane before they spot us.”

“Aye, aye, Captain,” Shippo snorted sarcastically, as he grabbed Hiten's bag. He kneeled down as he felt the extra weight on his back, and then stood.

Inuyasha snarled at the sarcasm in his friends voice, as he ran towards the plane. He was glad that they weren't to far from the shore. It would be hard to explain to the authorities about all the weapons they carried, not to mention, that the last time he had a run in with the law they happened to work for Naraku.

A large sounding 'boom' stopped Inuyasha in his tracks as he quickly turned his head to see what all the commotion was. The rattling sound of guns still rang through the air, but now the jeep had overturned, probably careened by another vehicle. The men that had survived the crash were firing upon the police officers.

“Inuyasha! Let's go!” Shippo shouted as he noticed Inuyasha wasn't with them. He couldn't believe that his friend stopped, when he was just in a hurry to leave. “We can't afford to get caught. Who will save Kagome then?”

Inuyasha's ears laid back in his head and he snarled at his own curiosity. “Feh!” was all he could say and turned only to catch up with them. They were close to the plane and soon, would be on their way to destroy Naraku once and for all.
