Chapter 21

Another Encounter

Everyone woke up to the smell of ramen. They all looked by the fire and it was Kagome who was cooking. She was up earlier than usual. Lately she had been waking up last.

Inuyasha looked at her confused at how she got out of his tight embrace without waking him up.

They all just got up and ate. As soon as they were done eating they packed up and started walking. They were all on foot. Kagome was beside Inuyasha with Shippo in her arms and Sango and Miroku were in front of them with Kirara.

They walked until lunchtime and made camp. This time the girls got a chance to bathe. Shippo was watching the guys.

The girls grabbed their things and walked toward the hot spring.

"So Kagome-chan what's been happening with you and Inuyasha?" Sango asked.

"He says we're mates."

"So then you…"

"No we haven't. He said he'd wait until I was ready."

"Oh so that's why you've only been marked."

"I didn't know you noticed that."

"I've known about it since you came back I just didn't say anything."

"Oh."

"You're lucky you got a nice mate."

"Why do you say that?"

"Well usually when a male takes a mate he forces himself on her. Instincts make them do that. But since Inuyasha's a hanyou he has some control. And he doesn't punish you."

"I've been wondering how they `punish' their mate."

"They bite you in the neck. It doesn't hurt it's more like a submissive hold, to tell whose boss. Males are always dominant. Or if the bond they share is strong they can send a prick of pain where their mark is."

"Oh. So I'll never be the dominant one?"

"No, it hurts their pride a lot if they were the submissive one. That's why they can `punish' their mate and the female can't, especially the human ones."

"How do you know so much about this stuff?"

"I'm a demon hunter I have to know these things. Mates are very possessive. So I suggest when you're in the company of a male that Inuyasha doesn't like never touch them and always stay next to Inuyasha."

"Why?"

"Well Inuyasha is a lot more possessive than the regular youkai. Why do you think he's always trying to kill Kouga? It's instinct. He doesn't want to lose you."

Kagome just let Sango's words sink in. He wasn't kidding when he said that he could punish her. She touched her neck where Inuyasha bit her. Why did he keep biting her all the time? Was it a inu youkai thing or just him?"

"Sango."

"Hai."

"What about biting?"

"What about it?"

"Is it an inu youkai thing or does it depend on the person?"

"Well, inu youkai do tend to bite a lot from what I heard. I think it mostly depends on the person. Bites are usually to show the person is taken. Why?"

"Well Inuyasha bites a lot."

"That's because he's possessive and arrogant. Come on let's get out before they come looking for us or something."

"Hai."

They both got dressed and headed back to camp. Kagome had a lot of things on her mind. It would take her a while to get used to the whole mating thing.

She wondered what would happen if she bit him. She hadn't paid attention in the past so she didn't remember if she had before. She had always been so caught up in the moment.

"Oi, what the hell took you so long?" Inuyasha said.

"Gomen we were talking." Kagome said.

"You couldn't have talked while walking?"

"No, then you guys would listen to us." Sango said.

"We could listen to you in the hot springs if Shippo wasn't here to tell on us." Miroku said.

"Did Miroku try anything Shippo?" Kagome asked.

"No Inuyasha kept glaring and growling at him." Shippo said.

"Why is it that you always assume it's just me trying to take a peek? You never say anything about Inuyasha trying to peep." Said Miroku.

"That's because he has never tried." Kagome said.

"You don't know that." Said Miroku.

Inuyasha just hit Miroku in the head. "I haven't"

"Hai, hai." Miroku said.

Kagome froze she stood up and looked behind her. She could sense a Shikon shard. She didn't know how many. She closed her eyes and concentrated on the shards. There were three. They were coming fast.

"What's wrong Kagome?" Inuyasha asked.

She opened her eyes. "There are three shards coming fast towards us."

Inuyasha pulled out the tetsusaiga and stood in front of the group. "Get ready."

Sango grabbed Hiraikotsu and Miroku stood in a defensive stance with his staff. Kagome had her arrows out.

They all waited for the enemy to come. Kagome could feel the shards. They were below them. "Everyone move!"

They all moved out of the way when someone popped out of the ground. He looked human. He had pointed ears. He stood about six feet tall. He was wearing a black summer yukata.

"I come for Kagome. My master wants her to go home." He said.

"Who the fuck is your master?" Inuyasha asked.

"Ah, Hojo-sama told me there would be a badly mannered hanyou among the group of travelers."

"Hojo?" They all said at the same time.

"Hai, come Kagome Hojo-sama says it's time for you to go home to him."

"No, I don't have a home with him. Stay away from me." Kagome backed up with her bow and arrows in hand. It was aimed at the youkai in front of them.

"Kagome isn't going anywhere you can go tell your master to go fuck himself." Inuyasha said.

"That is not an option. I was told to bring her with me to him."

"Yeah well you can't have her."

"Fine, I'll see I have to do this the hard way." He took something out of his yukata and threw it at Kagome.

She shrieked and fell to the floor. She couldn't move. The bow and arrows fell next to her.

"Kagome." They all yelled at the same time. They ran to her.

"What did you do to her?" Inuyasha asked.

"I paralyzed her. It will be easier to take her with me. Don't worry by the time the powder wears off you'll all be dead and she will be in the possession of my master."

"Don't worry about me. He has shards in both his arms and one in his forehead."

"Sango, Miroku you know what to do. Shippo stay with Kagome."

"Inuyasha we can't fight with you. Someone has to protect Kagome." Sango said.

"He won't hurt her. That's why he paralyzed her instead of knocked her out with a blow to the head."

"Ah very observant. Although it won't help you in this fight."

He jumped at Inuyasha. Inuyasha dodged it and tried to hit him. He dodged. The youkai took to the trees and Inuyasha followed.

Sango and Miroku watched waiting for a chance to attack. They were hidden in the trees. In the distance you could hear a clinking sound.

Then the youkai and Inuyasha came out of the forest and landed in the campsite clearing. The youkai had a katana out in front of him. The katana was longer and thicker than usual.

Then Inuyasha ran forward with the tetsusaiga. The youkai countered his swing with the sword. Inuyasha kicked him in the stomach and did a back flip.

The youkai was on the ground. He picked up his sword and charged at Inuyasha. Sango threw Hiraikotsu but the youkai jumped up and dodged it.

Miroku threw some ofuda at him but he also dodged it. Inuyasha jumped into the air and swung at him.

He managed to slash him in the arm and he fell to the ground.

"Okaa-san are you ok." Shippo asked worried.

"Hai, Shippo-chan I just can't move that's all." Kagome said reassuring him. All she could do was watch the fight.

"For a hanyou you fight pretty good." The youkai said.

"Ha, for a weak youkai like you you're pretty fast." Inuyasha said.

They stood there for a while. The youkai charged Inuyasha again. This time Sango was able to hit him with Hiraikotsu. He was thrown into the forest.

Sango caught her weapon and stood in a defensive stance waiting to see if he would get up again. Miroku stood next to her.

They all watched the area where the youkai was thrown. They could hear him getting up. He came out of the forest gimping. He had blood running down his leg.

His eyes turned from a brown color to a dark gray. He seemed to be in a trance. He cocked his head to the side and his wounds were healed.

They all watched amazed. The shard in his forehead must have been able to heal him faster than the normal youkai.

His eyes turned to the original color and he attacked Sango. Sango dodged him as best as she could but was soon hit. She slammed into a tree. She was out cold.

"Sango." Miroku ran to Sango only to be hit against the tree next to Sango. He too was out cold.

Inuyasha just growled. He had hurt two people of his group and paralyzed his mate. Inuyasha charged at the youkai. He just blocked every swing.

The youkai knocked tetsusaiga out of his hands and jumped back. His eyes turned dark gray again. He raised his hand and swung. Lights came out of his claws and hit Inuyasha.

Inuyasha had wounds on his arms and legs. He needed to get to the tetsusaiga. He jumped and rolled to get to it but was stopped by the youkai's claw attack.

Sango and Miroku were slowly coming to. They watched as Inuyasha tried to find a way to protect himself from the attack.

The youkai released his attack again. Inuyasha readied himself for the attack but he saw an arrow fly and land in the ground in front of him. It was Kagome's arrow and it was purifying the attack like the time with Kagura.

They all looked to Kagome. She was trying to stand up. She was holding her bow. She only managed to get up on her knees. She notched another arrow.

Inuyasha used the distraction to get the tetsusaiga. The youkai ran toward Inuyasha. He was hit by an arrow and pinned to a tree. The arrow was slowly purifying the youkai.

Since the youkai had shards it only managed to hold him in place. The youkai tried to grab a hold of the arrow to pull it out. He was stopped by Kagome's miko energy.

Inuyasha walked up to the tree the youkai was pinned to killed the youkai. He disappeared and the shards fell to the ground.
