A/N – this is the second time I’ve stopped then started writing for LJ again.  *shrugs*  It’s a good way to continue writing creatively while one is searching for inspiration on ideas for longer stories.

The Spider Commeth

“Kagome, can I show you something?”

“Sure Shippou-chan,” the miko replied, somewhat perturbed by his perplexed demeanor.  “What is it?”

“I dunno,” the kit answered, leading her away from camp into the forest.  He stopped after perhaps fifty meters and gazed down at a particular spot in the underbrush.  At first Kagome saw nothing, but then she spotted a sticky-looking white substance strung haphazardly over several leaves and twigs.

“Kinda looks like a spider web, huh?” Shippou observed.

“Yeah, if the spider was sick or drunk,” Kagome said, reaching out to touch the strange substance before Shippou’s next words froze her hand in mid-air.

“It was Inuyasha.  He was grunting and moaning, so I thought he was in pain.  Then I heard a splattering sound and when he left, this stuff was there.  Do you think he’s sick?”

Kagome’s hand shot back as if avoiding flame, and she stood rigidly with fists clenched at her sides.  Her face heated until she was sure she was red as a tomato.  That baka…I’m going to kill him!

“No, Shippou-chan, he’s not sick,” she ground out through clenched teeth.

“Oh,” the fox replied, more confused than ever.  “So why is he making spider webs?”

“He’s not—um, you didn’t happen to see how Inuyasha made the…s-s-spider web, did you?”

“No, his back was to me.”

Kagome slumped in relief; so she didn’t have to give Shippou ‘the talk.’  But someone had to tell him something, and she knew just the person.

“Don’t worry, Shippou-chan, Inuyasha will tell you all about it.”

“He will?” the kit inquired skeptically.

“Yep.  He doesn’t have a choice.”

And who knew?  Maybe if Inuyasha managed to satisfy the kit’s curiosity without scarring him for life, she wouldn’t ‘osuwari’ him into next week.
