AN: Just a short chappie, where we look back in to the future just after Koden and Kyohaku disappeared.

******************************

It was nightfall by the time they reached the area General Sesshomaru had lost contact with Koden and Kyohaku. First to arrive and seal off the area was Commander Kouga and Commander Ayame, next was General Sesshomaru with his elite platoon to secure the area, and last was Commander Inuyasha. He and his platoon had just been successful in taking out and destroying one of the cyborgs nests, wiping thousands of them out, when he received the news sent by urgent coded message. Needless to say, he was not happy.

Inuyasha paced around the sealed off perimeter. He looked around and saw Kouga and Ayame right beside ground zero where the cyborg self destructed, analyzing it for any hints as to what happened to their son and his daughter. Another vicious growled erupted from his throat as he slammed Tetsuiaga deep in the earth. He yanked his helmet off, freeing his long silver hair and twitching ears into the wind. He then placed his helmet on the hilt of his sword.

“Calm yourself half breed, snapping at the others isn't going to help find her.” General Sesshomaru stated coolly as he approached the seething hanyou from the side. “If you do want to help start searching this area, you should know it, this is the ground of the former Sunset Shrine.” He spoke again while walking toward Kouga and Ayame. Inuyasha blanched as he whirled around to find the forever ageless tree, Goshinboku. It stood alone in the barren grounds, lit up by the search lights.

`Hello old friend' he thought as he strode over to it and grazed his bare hand over its rough bark. He stood before the tree remembering all the good times they had in front of this tree before the war, before everything crumbled on to itself.

He let his hand travel over the smooth spot where he was pinned by Kikyo and suddenly energy held him to the tree. Images of Koden came to his mind, growing up, playing in front of the tree, her first kiss with Kyohaku, his proposal to her. Suddenly the tree's energy became painful, angry and violent. He saw the start of the war, he saw the fire that destroyed the shrine while he and Koden were away on duty, and then he heard Koden's whispers.

Uncle, tell my father I love him, and I love you too. Kyohaku, I think it's our time koi”

Inuyasha started to shake, he growled violently and lunged against the tree, trying to break the connection as Koden's final scream pierced through his head again and again. He butted his head against the tree, while trying to free his hand all the while screaming his daughter's name.

Suddenly he felt two pairs of hands on him yanking him away from the tree. He found himself in a daze, trying to focus on who every pulled him away. It's was Kouga and Ayame. “Inuyasha what happened?” questioned Ayame gently.

Inuyasha regained his solid footing and then spoke, “Some kind of energy from the tree,” he spoke while peering back at the tree, “I touched it and it let me see the past, Koden's past, her growing up from being a pup, to the engagement, to their final words and moments.” He said the last part in a whisper. “Stay here.” He spoke harshly as he leapt into the tree and started looking down.

“Kouga, get the units to put more light in the ground.” He barked the commander. He watching intently as the grunts moved the lights to flood the ground, and then he saw it. “Ayame!” he barked out, “to your right! Five paces, impact and skid mark.” He spoke as he jumped out of the tree and made his way over to the spot. Inuyasha got down and gave the ground a sniff. He was just about the stand and follow the marks as he heard a snide little comment come from the crowd of onlookers behind the security zone tape.

“What does he think he's doing? He's got the markings, I know for a fact he can't use that nose of his.” The feminine voice spoke haughtily.

Sesshomaru narrowed his gaze at the offender, Kouga and Ayame flanked Inuyasha as he began to walk towards the direction of the onlookers. All three of them snarled as they spotted the voices owner.

Kagome. And she wasn't alone; she was with another human male. Inuyasha gave a quick sniff and then grinned, it wasn't a human she was gloating with, and it was a youkai and a good trickster. He watched as she stiffened when saw all three of them staring her down with wolfish grins on their faces.

“Oi! Wench, now what you doing out, a frail little thing like you, shouldn't you been at home in our bed fucking Hobo?” he snapped at her. She paled visible and she began to chuckle nervously. Kagome regained some of her bravado and snapped back, “I came to see what your doing to the shrine grounds now, not much else you can do to it after you let it burn down.”

Inuyasha was about to lunge at her but was held back by Kouga. Sesshomaru strode over to the escalading pissing match and nodded to her seemingly human escort. “Good work Fox.” The man grinned and then poofed back into his original form. Kagome `eeped' and then took three steps back. This wasn't the man she met at the restaurant. Inuyasha's voice broke her stupor.

“Oi runt! This side of the tape, we need your help.” He barked out as he walked away. Kagome looked over to her escort again and gasped.

“Come on Kagome, you can't be that surprised.” There stood, a full grown nine tail fox demon in full youkai army uniform. He smirked and then yelled over to Sesshomaru, “Yo General, you know how hard it is to magic Kevlar vests?!” Sesshomaru narrowed his gaze and spat back, “Enough Commander Shippo, we've got bigger issues to deal with.” Shippo grinned and started to duck under the tape as he heard an audible gasp. He turned to see Kagome, eyes wide with a shocked expression on her face. He shrugged his shoulders and spoke, “Commander Shippo, at your service, commander of the elite recon squad.” He bowed lightly. “Just wanted to see if everyone was right about you.” He spoke softly. “Right? Right about what?” she questioned hotly. “Of how much of a bitch you really have become. First your mate and then your girl. Come on Kagome, do you think any of us would stand for that, what would Sango and Miroku think about you now?” he questioned returning her piercing gaze.

“Runt! Get a fucking move on! We don't have time to waste on coddling the trash!” Inuyasha bellowed. It wasn't Shippo that responded this time, it was Kagome, “You know what Inuyasha go fuck yourself, or better yet go resurrect Kikyo so I can watch her pin you to the damn tree again.” She hotly yelled back. That was her mistake. Soon Inuyasha had her pinned against a near by wall, snarling and baring his fangs at her. Soon enough Kouga and Shippo were both trying to pry him off of her. Kagome's body shook, she knew she pushed his buttons but something was wrong, he wouldn't set off so quickly without something being so wrong.

“Mutt-face, back the fuck off we don't have time for this!” Kouga snarled as he pulled on Inuyasha. They managed to get him off of Kagome; he stood over her as she slumped to the ground whimpering. “You think some stupid wannabe doctor took away my youkai blood? I have all that you tried to take it away, you tried to deny Koden of hers,” he seethed. “Get away from me Kagome, don't come near me or the Youkai Army, and don't even think about even looking at Koden. You don't exist in our world anymore.”

He turned on his heel and started walking away from her. Kagome sobbed lightly, she knew she started it, but she never knew both of them felt the same way. Suddenly she snapped her head up as Inuyasha's voice rang clear through the heated emotions and hateful words.

“Get to work Runt; we have to find Kyohaku…and Koden. They've been missing for two hours now. Sesshomaru lost contact with them as the cyborg blew.”

She couldn't help it when she looked to the Goshinboku, she felt the sadness, the anger, the pain, she wailed as the tree swayed towards her releasing Koden's last scream for help. It wasn't for her mother like it always had been, it was for her father.

AN - I think I will continue with the Interludes, cause I think I just managed to make a few subplots in here to, and besides Shippo just got here, and he's grown up. Wohoo!
