Last Time:

Kagome `eeped' as she saw the two slid off their face protection, and faced her. Both gave wolfish grins, showing off their fangs. The Wind Scar finally subsided as they began to walk over to the threesome.

“Sorry for surprising you Big K.” Koden spoke laughing. Kyohaku snorted. “It's ok Koden.” He grinned back. “Hey mutt-face, met my boy, Kyohaku.” He beamed as he slapped Kyohaku on the back. Kyo stepped forward and bowed slightly while grinning. “Commander.”

“And this fiery young lady...” Kouga started. “Big K, I got this,” Koden interrupted, “I'm Koden, how you doing old man?” Koden smirked as she slid off her helmet, releasing her hair and letting her ears twitch freely. Inuyasha for once was stunned into silence.

Inuyasha stood stunned into silence, he watched Koden with intense interest as she conversed with Kyohaku and Kouga.

`Old man?! My daughter? And she's mated? To that wimpy wolf's son no less!'

A growl passed his lips as he heaved Tetsaiga over one shoulder. He was about to let a barrage of questions fly at the two young soldiers but was interrupted by Kagome's hand nudging him gently on his arm.

“Inuyasha,” she whispered quietly, “Who is she, and why in the heck did she call you old man?” She spoke softly as she stepped closer to him while watching the two new comers.

`It looks like soldier uniforms but from my time, but I don't remember any of those crests, or equipment. Where the heck are they from?'

Kagome had a puzzled look on her face as she was snapped out of her revere from a loud snarl. She snapped her head towards Koden who was staring her down, arms crossed over her chest, scowl on her face, and staring right at her.

`I don't know how but she is Inuyasha's daughter, down to the fanged scowl.' She sighed shaking her head slightly.

Suddenly Kagome was lifted up and pinned against a tree, by a snarling Koden. “You will do well not to take your eyes off of me, right now in this moment, we are enemies. As for Inuyasha he is my father, my sire. I am the daughter of Inuyasha Taisho, niece of Sesshomaru Inu no Taisho, I wield of both fangs Tetsuiga and Tensuiga and I wield the Koudou. Question what I say again and you will find yourself at the end of one of those swords.” Koden spat while dumping Kagome on the ground.

Kyohaku came around and yanked Koden away from a very irate hanyou and a shaken teenage girl. “Koden, what is going through you head? Don't threaten her. Your old man maybe no match for us in this time period but that is no reason to shake up your…” Kyohaku was suddenly cut off short by Koden crashing her lips against his. She quickly released him and licked his chin and whispered. “Let my secrets be mine for now. I will tell them when I see fit to acknowledge her.”

“No match for me eh?” Inuyasha snarled as he snapped the two future soldiers out of their private discussion. “Old man, phuleaze, you saw us standing in the middle if the frickin Wind Scar for Kami's sake. You being this young, you are no match for us.” Koden snorted as she sized the younger Inuyasha up.

Koden then turned to the small gathering, “My mate and I are going back to our camp, Kouga you are welcome to join us as well as you Inuyasha,” she pointed her gloved finger at Kagome, “You, can go back to Lady Kaede's village. I have no need to look at you right now.” Kagome snapped to attention and her eyes widened. Shaken at the clear dismissal, she huffed and retrieved her quiver of arrows and her bow and started to turn on her heel. Koden turned to walk back to camp when a war cry broke through the silence, making her eyes widen and making her snap her head in that direction.

“Hiraikotsu!”

`The original wielder of Hiraikotsu! Sango? I forgot she's in this time period too with the old man.' Koden mused.

Koden suddenly leapt up in the air, quickly snatching Hiraikotsu out of mid flight, much to the shock of Kouga, Inuyasha and Kagome. Kyohaku just stood there and gave a knowing smirk.

*~ flashback~*

A younger Koden and Kyohaku followed Inuyasha into his weapons room. This was a yearly ritual for Inuyasha, he still continued it. Kagome stopped coming in here, her explanations being that it brought up too many memories of her lost friends and the battles they shared, but Koden had other suspicions.

Inuyasha, dressed in his fire rat clothing, opened the huge heavy doors. All three of them gave a choked sniff from the dust being stirred up. Quietly he went a lit the hurricane lanterns around the room. Both Koden and Kyohaku could never get used to this; slowly as the light strengthened they could see weapons of all kinds and sizes being illuminated on the walls. Each bearing a name beside them, honouring both the weapon and the warrior.

Slowly they advanced through the room to walk to the other end. Inuyasha was the first to kneel down, followed by Koden and Kyohaku. He slowly lit candles at the base of the wall. There stood a small shrine, honouring two of his closest friends Sango the Taijya, and Miroku the Monk. Inuyasha let the light gather its strength before speaking.

“These were the two people I was closest to, besides Kagome. They taught me many things, and today we honour them.” Inuyasha spoke quietly, reverently. Both Koden and Kyohaku placed small flower offerings on the shrine and bowed. They watched as Inuyasha stood and placed his hand on the weapons.

“Hiraikotsu belonged to Sango, she was damn good, for the longest time she was torn in two, between the love of her brother who was enslaved by Naraku and that pervert monk,” he grinned. He then switched over to the hanging staff. “Miroku, his family was cursed by the Wind Tunnel, but thankfully he knew how to use this, other wise he would have been long gone before we defeated Naraku. Damned guy was a pervert, copped a feel when ever he could on Sango, asking all the girls to bear his children, good thing all those thwaps to the head Sango gave him made him come to reason. They we good people, good warriors and great friends.” He sighed lightly.

Inuyasha then turned back to Koden and Kyohaku. “If I'm never here Koden, carry this out, because if it wasn't for Sango and Miroku, none of would be here, and we should honour them.” Inuyasha turned back to the shrine and bent over to place his own flowers on the polished wood. Koden and Kyohaku kneeled on the floor and bent to the ground in a respecting bow. Inuyasha followed soon by sitting on his haunches and bowing his head. Koden knew this was her father's way of paying the most respect he could. When she peeked up at him, she could see him fighting back the on coming tears. She wondered why he would cry. Does he miss them? Does he miss that time? Or is he sad because he thought things wouldn't change so much. Koden never asked, and Inuyasha never offered any explanations.

Inuyasha then spoke in a broken voice. “Tomorrow you start training with these, you will learn how to use them and use them well.” Both Koden and Kyohaku nodded without hesitation.

*~ end Flashback~*

Koden was snapped to attention when a woman in battle gear of a taijya came into view. Koden gave a little grin when Sango stopped suddenly and gave an audible gasp as she saw Koden holding Hiraikotsu over her shoulder.

`If Sango is here, then where is…'

“Sango! My beauty wait up!” a male voice carried in the wind.

`Miroku,' Koden snorted, `Pervert was never far from his mate, and old man never did tell us if he made it to the wedding ceremony without injury.' Koden grinned.

Kyohaku took Hiraikotsu from Koden and slung it over his shoulder and slowly walked over to Sango. He bowed slightly, “Lady Sango.” He spoke quietly and handed back her weapon to her. He then turned to Miroku, “Houshi.”

“Ok, ok Kyo, let's get going, I would like to rest, plus my leg is killing me, I need to change the wrappings on it.” She spoke absently as she started to limp towards their camp. Kyohaku rushed over to her and picked her up bridal style and twirled her around while she laughed lightly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Soon the rest of the group was following them, while Kagome reluctantly lagged behind.

Soon the group was settled by a brightly burning fire, Inuyasha had gone out quickly to gather food as Sango and Kagome set up their camp and set water to boil. Kyohaku and Kouga were deep in discussion as Inuyasha returned with several small rabbits ready to cook on skewers.

“These will take a bit of time to cook,” he announced, “why don't you go wash up.” Kagome and Sango both nodded, but Koden snorted. “Thanks but no thanks I've already had one hell of a bath tonight.” She glared at Kyohaku, who did nothing but shrug his shoulders and snickered. They watched as Kagome and Sango gathered their things for their bath and watched them wander down to a near by stream, with Miroku behind then to stand guard. Koden then stood and fished in one of her thigh pockets for her first aid kit. Kyohaku moved closer to her, and went on high alert as she began to take off her Kevlar vest. She noticed this and quietly spoke, “Kyo, ease up, both of our old mans are here, we can relax for this one night.”

Kouga was the first to speak. “She's right pup, relax, from your stories you need to relax and rest in case you find your way home in the near future.” Kyohaku looked up to Koden who was standing over him, she gave a small nod and then he began to disarm. “Koden keep the weapons close, sorry babe, old habits die hard.” Koden gave him a tolerant smile but nodded.

Koden slumped back down to the soft grass and gave a deep sigh. She began to unzip her heavy soldier jacket and then paused. She gave a light sniff at the same time Inuyasha did signaling the return of the other girls and Miroku who was rubbing his cheek while grinning.

`Old man always did say...once a letch always a letch.' She snorted and she caught Kagome glimpse quickly her way. `It's about time I showed that bitch what she did to me and the old man.'

Koden stood as she unzipped her jacket and shrugged it off. She threw it on the ground next to Kyohaku who was doing the same. Koden then began to unzip the legs off of her pants all the while glimpsing at Kagome who was still trying not to make it obvious that she was watching her. Koden flicked her ears straight up. Inuyasha caught the glint of metal from her ear and gave her a questioning look. She ignored his silent inquisition as she shed more cloths until she was down to her black cut off tank top and shorts.

Koden knew she was trying to bait Kagome into asking questions, as far as he knew Koden had this all figured out. He was soon snapped out of his thoughts as he heard Kagome rummaging in her huge yellow backpack.

“Umm Koden?” Kagome spoke very quietly, “I have some medicinal cream that would help with those scars if you would like it.” She paused. Koden grinned.

`Hook, line and sinker.'

Koden could see Kyohaku sit a little straighter as she got up. “Now why would I need that?” Koden snorted. “These wounds are old, and they are healed as best as they can be considering the circumstances of my world. I don't need anything from you of all people, not then and definitely not now.” She snorted. “Koden.” Kyohaku started in a warning tone, “Kyo don't, she was bold enough to look at the scars and offer something for them, and the old man is itching to ask about my ears, so why not.” Koden hissed.

Koden then stood closer to the fire and let Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango and finally Kagome see the extent of her scars. They covered almost all of her exposed skin, some areas worse off than others, some criss-crossed to make angry patterns on her smooth skin. She heard the girls gasp, and Inuyasha, Miroku and Kouga just closed their eyes. “Kyohaku is off better than me, I have my old man's wanton for jumping in the middle of a fight,” she gave a short barking laugh, “But these don't hurt, they were all caused by the war, fighting to protect me mate and my family.” She slowly sat back down beside Kyohaku, “but these wounds,” Koden pointed to her flicking ears, “hurt the absolute worst.”

Kagome looked her over for a moment, `So many cuts and scars, why didn't her mother take better care of her?' She looked over to Koden flicking ears and then spoke the one word, everyone else wanted to, “Why? Why do they hurt the most?”

“Because,” Koden sneered, “The one person who I thought would protect me and accept me like she did for my father turned on us both. She did this to me, or tried to, she made it happen on my old man, let me ask you something, do you know what's it like to watch your own mother stand by and watch as your father gets his youkai gift ripped away from him?” With that Koden turned on Kagome, snarling and clicking her fangs together. Koden was seething now, “Do you know what it's like to watch your father being strapped down, filled with drugs and then doing horrible things to him. First they made sure he was doped up real good but not enough to knock him out, they clipped his claws until they bled, they stuck a damn searing hot poker up his nose to take away his sense of smell, they laser flashed his eyes, not once like normal youkai, but twice and then finally they placed drugs rods under his skin along his spine to slowly release a drug which drained his strength. They did this all the while he was semi conscience, I was in turmoil, I wanted to slash the so called doctors, but I was forced into chains and bindings as I stood beside my mother to watch the procedure. All the while he was in pain she was giving little smiles and mumbling stuff about civility and making no excuse now for his appearance. I was livid to the point they had to have orderly's stand beside me to keep me from lunging at her. I was forced to watch as they marked him, I cried as I watched them clip the v marks out of his ears, I howled loud enough for Uncle to hear me when they pierced the silver hoops in his ears. That day was a cursing as well as a blessing. That was the day my miko powers awoken. And that was the day the mother I knew died.”

Koden's face was filled with many emotions, anger, rage, sadness. “That same women did this to me.” She spat as she pointed to her ears. “Stupid fucks forgot who I was and marked me before they finished the procedure. Kyo, the old man and Uncle showed up in time just before they drugged me up again.” Koden chuckled, “The old man blew the building apart with the Diamond Spear Blast.”

Kagome made a movement to get up, and before she knew it, Koden was on top of her with a knife made out of miko energy to her throat. “Never forget how fast I am, even unarmed I am dangerous.” This sent the camp into an uproar, Sango and Miroku trying to placate an angered hanyou and Kyohaku trying to pry Koden off of Kagome. Kouga just sat back a smirked. Inuyasha whirled around and yelled, “What the fuck is so damn funny you mangy wolf?!”

“Nothing really,” quipped Kouga, “I think it's kind of funny that Koden is trying to maim her younger mother though.”

One simple sentence stopped everyone in their tracks. All eyes moved to Koden who was standing above Kagome, “You even so much as look at me wrong while I'm here, and I will take you back with me the War Era to show you the bitch you have become.”
