Chapter 6
I waited all day for Inuyasha to come back. While I waited I stared out the window and down the worn up lifeless road that used to always be full of carriages and small children laughing and playing around. But that was 500 years ago….I knew those times would never come back. As I waited I saw a small figure of a man and then two others behind him, as it got closer I noticed it was Inuyasha, with Miroku and Sango trailing behind him. As they neared the house Sango noticed me at the window and waved with a big sweet grin on her face.
I waved back and floated downstairs to open the door. Inuyasha already had keys to the house but why make him waste his time getting them? When I opened the door Miroku was standing there with a sweet small smile and Sango was right next to him with the same expression on her face. When I looked at Inuyasha I saw him rummaging threw his back-pack with out even noticing me there.
He looked up at Miroku and Sango and said “I can’t find my-” he didn’t get to finish when Sango pointed to the door where I stood. He looked my way and jumped “How’d you- you were jus-” I shushed him and reminded him “Ima ghost I can move fast with out you even noticing I’m there.”
I said as I nodded my head to see if he understood. He scoffed and said “I- I knew you- *scoff* I knew you were there!”. Everyone including me looked at him and said “Rrrriiiiigggghhhhttttt.” Inuyasha scoffed one more time and pushed passed me and into the living room.
His parents had left to work. “Come on guys, you know you can come in.” I said as I gestured with my hand for them to go inside. “Wow, this place is huge!” Miroku and Sango said in unison. While they went to eat I floated back to the attic. I sat down in front of a box full of books and stuff, there was a picture of me and my family at my 10th birthday. Without even noticing a tear slid down my cheek and made a small splat on the picture.
I wiped away the tears streaming down my cheeks as I heard Inuyasha calling me. “I’m up here in the attic!” I yelled back as I tried to force my tears back so Inuyasha wouldn’t worry. I heard his heavy footsteps coming up the old worn out wooden stairs up to the attic. He came in with Miroku and Sango behind.
“What are you doin’ up here?” He asked as I quickly put away the picture. He raised an eyebrow and looked at me “What was that paper?” he asked as he came and sat next to me and tried to look in the box. But before he could, I quickly closed the box and put a big fake grin on my face and said “You ask too many questions, you know?” He looked at me suspiciously. He scanned my face and looked me in the eyes, and all of a sudden his eyes widened. “Were you crying?” I looked at him and my head lowered.
“No..” I said, and despised the way it sounded when it came out……it sounded like I was crying.
He opened the box without me noticing and took out the picture. He gasped as he looked at it. Sango and Miroku looked at the picture over his shoulder and also gasped.
“Kagome is that you?…….and your family?” he asked the same thing that was on his, Miroku’s, and Sango’s mind. My body shook rapidly with every heart wrenching sob and breath I took in. I couldn’t stop my tears now……I was just so sad that Naraku had to take it all away from me just to become what he is now….the devil…..I bet. I felt two warm muscular arms wrap around me and I was suddenly pulled onto someone’s lap. I gasped and looked up with teary eyes and saw it was Inuyasha. He smiled warmly at me. I buried my face in his chest and sobbed till I had no more tears.
He rocked me back and forth and rested his chin on top of my head. Miroku and Sango had left to not disturb us. “Shhhhh, it’ll be alright. Don’t worry. You may not be able to go back but you still got me.” He whispered. I loosened my grip around his waist to look up at him. He smiled down at me. All of a sudden I had the urge to kiss his cheek and thank him. “Thank you…” I whispered as I kissed his cheek. He blushed and held me close to him. We fell asleep in each others arms.
