Chapter 8: Since When...

Sesshomaru sat in his study, thinking about the days events. It bothered him so much, he couldn't even rest. Thankfully he didn't need to. He was completely baffled by his behavior around the miko. She told him to sit, he did so, she told him to stay and he obeyed her willingly. He didn't even maim her family as he normally would have if humans had acted that way towards him.

He growled and shook his head to clear it some, already knowing it would do no good.

'Why did I allow her to order me around and then actually do what she told me to.' he critically asked himself.

What had amazed, and confused, him even more was that he had actually enjoyed his time in the future around the miko. Even when he was almost mindlessly doing what she told him to.

He hated to admit it, but he was also perplexed about this new feeling that had been plaguing him since they had been in the hot springs together. 'Since the kiss,' another part of his mind brought up. The memory almost brought a smile to his stoic face before it was darkened by a scowl. He was the Lord of the Western Lands. He shouldn't be acting with almost no self control like he had been when he was around the miko. It was a disgrace, almost. It would have been bad enough if he were acting this way about a demoness, possibly excusable if she were in heat, but this miko was neither.

Sesshomaru stood up and started pacing to hopefully help his thinking. She was confusing, what she did to him was confusing, and what she made him do was confusing. 'It isn't all bad,' said the other side of his mind, which he had deemed the annoying side.

He tried to argue against it, thinking that what the miko was doing to him was bad, but his mind brought up a picture of Kagome. He couldn't deny the wave of the new feeling that rolled over him. He couldn't say he didn't like it. He felt more alive than he had in a long time. Even more so than when his mother had been alive.

He then started concentrating on that feeling and all the times he had experienced it. He was remotely shocked when he realized that he had felt it to a much smaller degree on a few occasions. More specifically, occasions when he had fought with the hanyou, and each time the miko had been there.

He stopped in his pacing and once again growled and shook his head, trying to clear it, and failing miserably. He started pacing again and passed by the large window in his study, and stopped again to look out. The moon had already started it's decent for the night, and he had only succeeded in confusing himself even more on the subject of the miko.

He decided to try to clear his mind by meditating, so he sat down in front of the window. It worked for a whole five seconds, then he was bombarded by memories and images of Kagome. He had cleared his mind, but it only made more room for his distraction.

He decided that trying to figure anything out about the miko was useless and headed towards his room to try to get some rest. Once he got there and had a few minutes to relax, he was suddenly very tired and fell asleep almost instantly.

Rosutoashura had been awake, finishing a few things that Sesshomaru-sama had told her to do, when she heard him walking down the hall, towards his room. She stepped out of the room she was in when she was certain that he would not sense her. He looked concerned about something and she could sense he was rather tired for a demon. More so than he was letting himself believe.

She followed him at a distance, knowing that, even with her natural talent, if she got too close to him, he would sense her. She got as close as she dared to his room and listened very carefully. She could tell he was distracted and wouldn't notice.

She started casting a light sleeping spell she knew and directed it at Sesshomaru-sama. She stayed where she was until she knew he was asleep and went to his door. She opened it just enough to peak in. What she saw took her breath away, no matter how many times she saw him. Sesshomaru-sama was in the nude, with just a light sheet covering his lower half while he slept peacefully on his futon. The moonlight shined in just enough to illuminate his well defined chest, arms, and stomach.

She shook her head once to clear it. She hated seeing Sesshomaru-sama the way he had been when she saw him in the hall; worried over something that was probably no problem at all. She mentally dug into his mind to look for the sorce of his problems and was surprised at what she found. She saw several images of the human she had been assigned to as a personal servant. If she remembered correctly, her name was Kagome. She was even more surprised by the emotion that surrounded the images. At first, she couldn't believe her eyes, but it was so constant and in such large quantities that she couldn't ignore it.

Rosutoashura smirked. 'So that's his problem. It will be good for him,' she thought. With that, she drew out her mental tap from Sesshomaru-sama's mind, closed the door, and went back to her assigned tasks.

The next morning, Sesshomaru woke up feeling much better, but still confused, now about how he had fallen asleep so easily. He was also still confused about the miko, but not as much as he had been. It seemed simipler after the rest he got.

He decided to go patroling for the next few days, to give him some uninterrupted thinking time. That decided, he went to go find Rosutoashura and Jaken. He found Jaken first and told him to prepare some things for a trip and meet him at the front gate. Next, he found Rosutoashura, and gave her instructions regarding the miko. The miko would be in charge while he was gone and Rosutoashura was to assist her.

After Sesshomaru had left, Rosutoashura went to wake Kagome and inform her of her new responsibilities. Kagome was shocked, to say the least, that Sesshomaru would depend on her so much, so soon after the making of their deal. Rosutoashura reassured her by telling Kagome that she would be there to help. That calmed her enough that she was able to get up, get dressed, and go to breakfast.

When Kagome and Rosutoashura got to the dining hall, Rin was there waiting for them.

"Where is Sesshomaru-sama?" Rin asked them.

Kagome looked from Rin to Rosutoashura with a confused look. "I don't know, he didn't tell me." Kagome told her.

"Sesshomaru-sama went to patrol. He will be back in a few days." Rosutoashura spoke up, with her head bowed.

"Why didn't Sesshomaru-sama take Rin with him?" she asked quietly.

"He wanted you to stay here and help me run everything while he was gone." Kagome lied to her, hoping it would cheer her up.

Rin stopped worrying so much and smiled. "Really? Rin gets to run stuff?" she asked, happily. Kagome nodded her head and Rin went of cheering around the dining hall, which was big, so it took her a while, so Rosutoashura and Kagome could talked.

"You do know he didn't really say that, right?" Rosutoashura asked her.

"Yeah, I know. But I didn't want Rin crying the whole time he was gone." she replied.

"Good point." the demon woman responded.

Kagome then got a look on her face that looked like she had an idea. "Do you mind if I call you Rosuto instead of Rosutoashura?" she asked.

"I am your servant. You may have me do whatever you wish, and you may call me whatever you like." she said, bowing her head agian.

"Yeah, I know all that, but I don't want to offend you." Kagome said, sounding concerned for the woman by her side.

"It would please me if you called me Rosuto." she said with a smile.

"Good, and you can call me Kagome, none of that 'milady' stuff." She replied, but it sounded a little like an order, so Rosuto didn't question it.

Breakfast went well, after they got Rin to calm down, and the rest of the day went good. Rosuto was at Kagome's side almost the entire day, guiding her in what she should do. After lunch, Rin got bored of all the work, so she went out into the garden to play for the rest of the day, with one of the other servants to watch over her.

The second day started out the with no problems, but during lunch a demon messenger came from the southern lands requesting to talk to Sesshomaru, which Rosuto handled with ease. The messenger left shortly after, leaving the message in Rosuto's care.

The third day, two other messengers came from the other two lands, asking for Sesshomaru. They also left, leaving their message in the care of Rosuto. The rest of the day passed uncomplicated, until that night. Most everyone was already in bed, except for Kagome and Rosuto. Rosuto was teaching Kagome about the castle off of a map, so that she could get around without a guide.

All of a sudden, Kagome felt a demon presence on the castle grounds. She had almost missed it, but she felt drawn to it for some odd reason. The demon, whoever it was, had a rather weak aura. It actually worried Kagome. It did not feel as if the aura was always weak, but instead it was weak from fighting.

"Rosuto, someone is here." She said as she quickly stood up from the table and went towards the door, Rosuto following closely. They made their way to the front door and once outside, Kagome headed straight for the aura she sensed.

Rosuto stayed behind a little to make sure there was no one else in the area.

When she found it she was completely shocked at the scene before her. At first, she couldn't believe it, then she didn't want to believe it. When Rosuto caught up, she had to believe her eyes, because Kagome heard her gasp as well.
