Chapter 11: The Visit Begins
Kagome woke up a few hours later, missing the warmth that she now associated with Sesshomaru. She looked behind her and saw that Sesshomaru was gone. She got up from bed and started to straighten her kimono she had worn to bed when she heard a voice.
"Who's there?" she called out from within the curtain. She was surprised when the curtain behind her moved. She whirled around, grinned at Rosuto and walked over to her.
"Morning. Or rather, afternoon." Rosuto said, grinning the entire time.
"Wow, is it really that late? Well, I needed the rest. Do you know where Sesshomaru is? He was here when I went to sleep and then I woke up and he's gone. Rather irratating." Kagome said, going over to her bag to get a few things out. She muttered the last part.
"He had matters to attend to and asked me to keep an eye on you. Why is it irratating?" Rosuto responded.
"It's irratating because he said he was going to stay here today, but if he had something come up that was important, I can't expect him to ignore it for me. So what did come up?" Kagome asked as she sat down and started brushing her hair.
"The other three lords have come for a visit. They are older and already have mates, but Sesshomaru-sama has yet to pick a mate. He is coming to the end of the time period in which he may choose one. If he doesn't pick one, then the others will pick for him." Rosuto explained, a grim expression. She knew that the demon lord had already picked a mate in his heart, but his mind did not want to accept a human for a mate.
Kagome quickly turned to face Rosuto. "I need a bath. Care to join me?" She asked, gathering her things and going to the closet to pick out a kimono. She rapidly noticed a midnight blue silk kimono that had not been there before. Kagome picked it up to examine it closer. It had silver stars embroidered at certain points, one on each breast, one over where her belly button would be, and various other places, but she thought nothing of it. It also had a large, silver, full moon embroidered on the back, with a few stars around it. Then she noticed that all of the edges had silver satin and velvet on them. Her eyes then moved to the snow white obi that had been under the kimono. It wasn't as wide as a normal obi and it wasn't as long, so that the bow would be smaller.
She turned to the demon woman standing patiently behind her. "Rosuto do you know where this came from? It wasn't here before." Kagome inquired, curious about the beautiful attire she held in her hands.
Rosuto gapped at the expensive kimono. It had to be worth more than any of the other outfits in the closet. "I don't know, Kagome-sama. All I know is that that is the most beautiful and expensive kimono I have ever seen." She said as she still gapped at the garment.
"Maybe I shouldn't wear this one, then. I wouldn't want to ruin it." Kagome said as she began to fold it up.
"No, you must wear it. It must have been put in here for you on pupose. No one else has stayed in this room for as long as I can remember. It must have been intended as a gift for you, or else it wouldn't be in here. You must wear it." Rosuto told her.
Kagome thought about it for a minute, then nodded her agreement. She then smiled. "You know, you're about the same size as me. Maybe a few of these would fit you." Kagome offered.
Rosuto shook her head. "Sesshomaru-sama has given me several fine kimono's to wear. Nothing as nice as what you hold now, but still very nice." She explained her refusal. "But I will join you for a bath." she said, grinning again.
Kagome nodded as she headed towards the door. When she stepped outside she stopped, looked around for a minute, then looked back at Rosuto sheepishly. "I don't remember the way to the hot springs." she said, looking down.
"That's okay. Follow me." Rosuto said, taking the lead and heading straight towards the hot springs.
Once they got there, they both stripped and cleansed themselves and then sat in one of the medium sized springs to chat for a while. They again avoided talking about their pasts and instead talked about how to get around the castle. Eventually the conversation turned towards Sesshomaru.
"Why were you two sleeping together last night?" Rosuto asked, curious.
"I don't remember, but Sesshomaru said it was because I grabbed his arm when he set me in bed. I had fallen asleep in the hall while we were talking and he took me to my room. That's when I grabbed his arm." Kagome explained with a giggle, leaving out several choice details.
They kept talking back and forth until they were both turning pruney and decided to get out before they stayed that way. Rosuto got out, dried off, and quickly got dressed. She then threw a towel to Kagome who was getting out of the hot spring. Kagome finished getting out, dried herself off, and started putting on the elagant kimono. Rosuto ended up having to help her with it. When Rosuto was done tying the obi, Kagome looked down at herself and was shocked to find that several of the embroided stars covered sensual places on her body, more than she first thought.
Rosuto noticed what Kagome had been staring at and giggled. "Looks like someone wanted to accent some of your better features." She managed between giggles.
Kagome glared at the demon woman for a minute, then giggled a little, if only for the way she had voiced it. "Glad you think it's funny." Kagome said as she headed towards the door.
"You were laughing, too." Rosuto retorted as she followed.
"Only because of how you said it." Kagome tossed over her shoulder.
Meanwhile, Sesshomaru had been in a meeting with the other Lords of the Lands. Rosuto had brought him some messages that had come while he was away that announced that all three lords would be coming for a visit. He had hated leaving Kagome after what he had told her, but this was something that had to be handled personally by him. It was the reason he'd had the seamstress make that kimono for her. It was amazing how fast she had worked to get it done. He was pleased with how it turned and had personally told the woman where to put the stars.
Now he was in a meeting, listening to the other lords tell him how important it was that he chose a good mate and soon. He was the only inu youkai there, but the other lords had exceptional sense of smell for their species, letting them be able to smell the lingering human scent.
"You must have a mate by the end of the next moon cycle." Said the Eastern Lord, a bear youkai that had shoulder length brown hair with flaxen streaks. His eyes were rather interesting, even for a youkai. The pupil and iris were white while the rest was black. He had a blood red triangle on his forehead and a single lightning bolt shape on his left cheek of the same color. He was dressed in a red kimono that had blue patterns at the end of the sleeves.
"Relax, Kuma. I already know this. I have recieved countless messages from you all about this very matter." Sesshomaru said patiently, but still rubbing his temples.
"You may know it, but you don't seem to be doing anything about it." The Southern Lord spoke. He was snake youkai with mahogany red hair with black streaks that reached the middle of his back and solid black eyes. He had a black diamond shape on his forehead that stretched down between his eyes. He was dressed completely in black; black kimono, black shoes, and a black hooded cloak hung on the back of the chair that he sat in.
"I agree with Karasuhebi. As far as we can tell, you have made no efforts to find a mate." Said the Northern Lord. He was a fox youkai with flame red hair that went down to his lower back and vivid blue eyes. He had a crimson star on his forehead and two blue lines on each cheek. He wore a forest green kimono with a pattern of white stars at the shoulders of the kimono.
"Listen Fokkusu." Sesshomaru said, starting to get upset at being insulted in his own home. "This goes for all of you. Just because I am not going around screaming that I am looking for a mate does not mean I am not looking. And rather recently I have had some matters come up that have prevented me from doing anything." Sesshomaru told them in his usual calm voice.
"What has stopped you?" asked Kuma. "The only thing we have been aware of you going after is that sword of your father's that he left to the hanyou. And there are even rumors that you have taken a young human girl into your protection, along with a miko more recently."
"The sword is powerful, that is why I try to get it. As for the rumors, so what?" Sesshomaru said, slightly worried that they knew about the humans.
"So you do have humans staying here." Kuma said, more of a statement than a question. Kuma was more outspoken than the other two lords, and often spoke without thinking.
Sesshomaru couldn't lie to them. He didn't fear them induvidually, but combined, they had a considerable amount of power. "Yes, I have two humans here. One is a powerful miko that I owe my life to. If she had not healed myself and one of my servants, then we quite possibly could be dead. If not dead, I would still be in a bed, healing." He hated to admit it to the others, but it would help prove his point.
"Why would a miko help you? Who is this miko that you speak of?" asked Karasuhebi, the most logical of the three lords. "And who attacked you that you were so greatly injured?" he added as an after thought.
"She use to travel with the hanyou. I do not know who attacked me. I was rather amazed that I hadn't sensed them coming and during the fight, I couldn't get a scent." Sesshomaru explained.
"You avoided the first question." Karasuhebi pointed out.
"I am not certain as to why she healed me. The only thing she told me was that she wished to increase her powers. She didn't know how to heal, I had a scroll on miko healing in my library, she read it, practiced on my servant, and when she was certain she could do it properly, she healed me." Sesshomaru explained to them.
"So, that's how you got your arm back." said Fokkusu. He was more playful than the other lords and loved a good party.
Sesshomaru only nodded, wishing they would get off the subject of Kagome. Sesshomaru noticed a scent drifting in from the hallway and recognized it immediately. "Excuse me for a moment. There is something I need to deal with." Sesshomaru stood up and made to leave when one of the lords stopped him.
"It is the miko, is it not? Why not bring her in? I am sure we would all like to meet this miko." Fokkusu said, looking at the other lords with a huge smile on his face. "Maybe he has already found a mate and just wishes not to inform us. Keep in mind, if you don't pick a mate, we will pick for you, and we already have a demoness in mind." He added, looking slyly at the others.
"It is the miko. I will inform her you wish to meet her." Sesshomaru said as he left. After the door was closed, Fokkusu broke out laughing.
Out in the hall, Sesshomaru found Kagome quickly. When he saw her, his breath caught in his throat for a minute. She had found the kimono he had left for her and was wearing it. It fit her just like it should, he noticed with a smile. His eyes followed the flow of the fabric, but they lingered a few places just a bit too long.
"I see you found my gift to you. It fits perfectly." Sesshomaru said with a smirk and dancing eyes.
"Yes, but I must say, the stars in the wrong places." Kagome replied. It was a lovely kimono and fit perfectly, but the where the stars were placed bugged her.
"No, they are right where they belong." Sesshomaru said as he wrapped his arms around Kagome's waist. "I like it that way." he whispered in her ear.
She hadn't been paying attention and didn't notice just how close he was until she felt his arms around her. "Well, if they are suppose to be there, I guess it is okay." She said with a grin, happy that he wanted the contact. "Rosuto informed me that the other lords are here, so I won't keep you. I was just wondering about the kimono." Kagome said as she tried to wiggle out of Sesshomaru's arms.
Her actions to get free were arousing him rapidly. "Actually, they wish to meet you." He said, tightening his grip so that she would feel what she was doing to him.
Kagome felt something hard at the top of her hip and stopped moving. "Oh, okay. I'll meet them if they want." She looked up into his eyes. "If it's safe." She spoke in a small voice that made her sound vulnerable. Sesshomaru nodded and let her go, but maintained a hold on her hand, and led the way to the room that the other lords were in.
When Sesshomaru re-entered the room followed by Kagome, all talk ceased. Sesshomaru had let go of her hand when he had opened the door, but he managed to maintain some kind of contact with her by pushing her up to the table where the other lords were seated.
"This is Kagome, the miko." Sesshomaru introduced her, then directed her to a seat on his right. He then sat down himself and introduced the other lords to Kagome. "On your right is Fokkusu, Lord of the Northern Lands. Next to him is Kuma, Lord of the Eastern Lands. Next to him is Karasuhebi, Lord of the Southern Lands." He then fell silent, waiting for the other lords to speak.
"Sesshomaru, you didn't tell her what kind of youkai we were. Why?" Asked a curious Fokkusu.
"He didn't need to tell me." Kagome said. "You are a fox, he is a bear, and he is a snake." Kagome said, pointing to each lord as she said their species.
"We were told you were powerful. How powerful are you?" Karasuhebi asked. "You must have a good deal of power to be able to heal two demons, on your first try, no less."
Kagome looked to Sesshomaru and he nodded. "I am the protector of the Shikon no Tama. I have also defeated the hanyou, Naraku, who had in his possession over half of the fragments and was using them to increase his power." Kagome explained, calm and cool.
"And how did you do that?" Asked a confused Kuma.
Sesshomaru spoke up then. "You don't want to know. I was there and saw it." He told them.
"Of course I want to know. If I didn't, than I wouldn't have asked." he said, getting angry. "Do not presume to tell me what to do, pup."
"If you must know, I will tell you. I purified his ... equiment off while he was aroused." She said and smirked when she saw the lords realize what she had meant.
Fokkusu burst out laughing. "That's great. I almost believed you. There is no way you could have defeated Naraku. He has been causing trouble for us all for a while now and none of our warriors could defeat him." He said between laughs, when he got enough air to talk.
"I did too. I could demonstrate for you." Kagome retorted, angry that he didn't believe her, and by the looks of it, the other lords didn't either.
"Oh really?"
"Yes. On you." Kagome replied. She was getting really angry. They wanted to meet her and then they insulted her, and probably just because she was a human.
What she said cause Fokkusu to look at her, but he continued to chuckle until he got a good look at her. The other lords attention had also been drawn to her. Her aura was flying madly about her, looking very much like blue flames coming off of her.
Sesshomaru saw that she was angry once again, and placed his hand on her arm to draw her attention to him. When she looked his way, he saw her anger burning in her eyes. When she realized who it was that had touched her arm, and who she was looking at she calmed down.
She didn't look back at the other lords, instead she bowed her head. "I am sorry, but you should not have said that." Then she forgot her modesty and looked up. "Why shouldn't the protector of the Shikon no Tama be powerful? I would think the protector would have to be powerful in order to keep all the youkai that covet the tama away." Kagome explained to them, getting angry again just from the memory. She felt Sesshomaru squeeze her arm a little with his hand from where he had left it after she had calmed down.
All the lords agreed with her and began to take her seriously, except Fokkusu, who had to get one more joke in.
"Maybe you two should mate so that you can keep her in control." Fokkusu said with a playful grin. That caused Kagome to look at Sesshomaru in confusion, only to find him glaring at the lord.
"I have put up with your bothering me about that and I am tired of discussing it. It is practically all you have talked about since you got here. If you wish to remain here, as my guests, than I suggest you do not bring it or that ridiculous idea up again. I will have servants show you to your rooms. Your mates are there waiting, or they should be. You will be notified when dinner is served. I take my leave of you now and will see you at dinner." Sesshomaru said, his tone allowing no room for arguement. He had stood up while talking to the other lords, and now Kagome was standing beside him. He looked down at her, and walked out with Kagome right behind him.
Sesshomaru wordlessly walked Kagome to her room and once he got there, he realized that she would want to talk, but he didn't know what he would say.
"Why is you mating with me such a ridiculous idea?" Kagome asked as soon as the door to the room was closed.
Sesshomaru looked at her, thinking about what he would say. "It wasn't the idea of us mating that was ridiculous. It was the reason why Fokkusu said we should that was absurd." Sesshomaru explained. He then realized that he had just said he wouldn't mind mating with Kagome.
"How long do you have to pick a mate?" She asked, wanting to understand better. She wasn't sure how she felt about the idea of mating with Sesshomaru. She stood there, not being able to look at him, but at the same time not being able to look away from his intense gold eyes.
"About fifty days. I have until the end of the next full moon cycle." Sesshomaru told her. Kagome nodded and walked towards her bed. Sesshomaru stood where he was, stunned, wondering what she was doing.
Kagome had moved her bag to inside the curtain by her bed. She went to it now and got out the Shikon no Tama shards that she had gotten from Koga and Naraku. She sat down on the edge of her bed and concentrated on the jewel shards. When she looked up, there were tears in her eyes.
Sesshomaru walked over to her, concerned. "What's the matter? Don't worry. It'll be okay." Sesshomaru tried to comfort her, rubbing small circles on her back.
"It's not okay. The jewel is full." She showed the jewel to Sesshomaru, who looked completely confused. "Sango's little brother had a shard in his back and the jewel is complete. He couldn't live without that shard. He's dead now and Sango doesn't know. She already had to lose him once and have him come back, and now she's lost him again and she doesn't even know." Kagome explained to the demon lord. She held the jewel in both hands against her chest as she cried on Sesshomaru's shoulder.
After she had calmed down and stopped cry, Sesshomaru pulled back a little to look her in the face. "What were you doing when you realized it was complete?" Sesshomaru asked, curious.
"I wanted to know how many fragments I still had to get. But I guess now I don't have to get anymore. It's complete." Kagome said, not looking Sesshomaru in the face. She just rested her head against his chest as she thought about how she was going to tell her friend that her little brother was dead again.
Sesshomaru could tell she was lying to him, but didn't know what to do. She was distressed about her companions lose and he hardly knew how to comfort her about that. He leaned closer to her and pulled her closer. "I know you are lying to me, but I do not need to know now. I will wait until you are ready to tell me willingly." Sesshomaru told Kagome.
Kagome looked up at Sesshomaru, stunned for a minute that he knew. Then, she smiled at him. "I should have known better than to try to lie to you. It was nothing, really. Just a stupid idea. I don't know what I was thinking when I did it." Kagome said, standing up to put the Shikon no Tama on a chain so she could keep it with her. She looked back at Sesshomaru. "When's dinner?" she asked.
Just then, they heard a knock at the door. Then a servant called from the other side of the door, announcing that dinner was ready.
Kagome looked to Sesshomaru. "Well I guess that answers my question. We should probably go." Sesshomaru nodded once, stood up, and headed towards the door.
When they walked in to the dining hall, the other lords and their mates were already there. They all stopped talking when they saw Sesshomaru and Kagome walk in, but a minute later the room was filled with their chatter.
Then there was a loud scream sounding throughout the room. "Sesshomaru-sama." A small girl came running up to him and wrapped her small arms around his legs. Sesshomaru looked down at her and the other lords and their mates thought he would kill the human child. He surprised them by just patting her on the head and pushing her towards a table.
Kagome took Rin's hand and led her to a spot across from the Southern Lord's mate. Rin looked up at Kagome and her eyes opened up wide.
"Wow! Kagome-okaasan, you look really pretty." Rin exclaimed as Kagome sat down next to her.
Karasuhebi looked up at her. "This is your child?" he asked.
Kagome smiled and shook her head. "No, I just adopted her. I also have a kitsune child, but he is with some friends right now." Kagome explained to the quiet demon.
"These friends of yours, they are capable of taking care of the child?" he inquired.
"They are quite capable. One is a rather powerful monk and the other is the last demon exterminator of her village." Kagome said. "Although, Shippo may be giving them a few problems. He does sometimes when he's away from me for a while." she added.
"Rather odd company you keep, Sesshomaru." Fokkusu said, grinning.
"It is not my company to keep, it is Kagome's." Sesshomaru told the other lord.
"My apologies. Also, my apologies for my rudeness earlier." He said in a sincere voice and bowed from his seated position. The mates of the lords were shoked that Fokkusu would apologize to a human.
They all sat at a large, round table and Sesshomaru sat at what had been deemed the head of the table with Kagome on his right and Rin next to her. Rosuto sat on Rin's right. The Northern Lord and his mate were to the right of Rosuto and the Southern Lord and his mate were on Fokkusu's right. Finally, the Eastern Lord and his mate were to the right of Karasuhebi and the left of Sesshomaru.
Kagome noted that the females looked greatly like their mates, only smaller in height and frame. They even had the same markings. Kagome had been introduced to them shortly after she sat down. Mesuno was the Lady of North, Kuroguma was the Lady of the East, and Burraku was the Lady of the South.

"You must have a mate by the end of the next moon cycle." Said the Eastern Lord, a bear youkai that had shoulder length brown hair with flaxen streaks. His eyes were rather interesting, even for a youkai. The pupil and iris were white while the rest was black. He had a blood red triangle on his forehead and a single lightning bolt shape on his left cheek of the same color. He was dressed in a red kimono that had blue patterns at the end of the sleeves.
"Relax, Kuma. I already know this. I have recieved countless messages from you all about this very matter." Sesshomaru said patiently, but still rubbing his temples.
"You may know it, but you don't seem to be doing anything about it." The Southern Lord spoke. He was snake youkai with mahogany red hair with black streaks that reached the middle of his back and solid black eyes. He had a black diamond shape on his forehead that stretched down between his eyes. He was dressed completely in black; black kimono, black shoes, and a black hooded cloak hung on the back of the chair that he sat in.
"I agree with Karasuhebi. As far as we can tell, you have made no efforts to find a mate." Said the Northern Lord. He was a fox youkai with flame red hair that went down to his lower back and vivid blue eyes. He had a crimson star on his forehead and two blue lines on each cheek. He wore a forest green kimono with a pattern of white stars at the shoulders of the kimono.
"Listen Fokkusu." Sesshomaru said, starting to get upset at being insulted in his own home. "This goes for all of you. Just because I am not going around screaming that I am looking for a mate does not mean I am not looking. And rather recently I have had some matters come up that have prevented me from doing anything." Sesshomaru told them in his usual calm voice.
"What has stopped you?" asked Kuma. "The only thing we have been aware of you going after is that sword of your father's that he left to the hanyou. And there are even rumors that you have taken a young human girl into your protection, along with a miko more recently."
"The sword is powerful, that is why I try to get it. As for the rumors, so what?" Sesshomaru said, slightly worried that they knew about the humans.
"So you do have humans staying here." Kuma said, more of a statement than a question. Kuma was more outspoken than the other two lords, and often spoke without thinking.
Sesshomaru couldn't lie to them. He didn't fear them induvidually, but combined, they had a considerable amount of power. "Yes, I have two humans here. One is a powerful miko that I owe my life to. If she had not healed myself and one of my servants, then we quite possibly could be dead. If not dead, I would still be in a bed, healing." He hated to admit it to the others, but it would help prove his point.
"Why would a miko help you? Who is this miko that you speak of?" asked Karasuhebi, the most logical of the three lords. "And who attacked you that you were so greatly injured?" he added as an after thought.
"She use to travel with the hanyou. I do not know who attacked me. I was rather amazed that I hadn't sensed them coming and during the fight, I couldn't get a scent." Sesshomaru explained.
"You avoided the first question." Karasuhebi pointed out.
"I am not certain as to why she healed me. The only thing she told me was that she wished to increase her powers. She didn't know how to heal, I had a scroll on miko healing in my library, she read it, practiced on my servant, and when she was certain she could do it properly, she healed me." Sesshomaru explained to them.
"So, that's how you got your arm back." said Fokkusu. He was more playful than the other lords and loved a good party.
Sesshomaru only nodded, wishing they would get off the subject of Kagome. Sesshomaru noticed a scent drifting in from the hallway and recognized it immediately. "Excuse me for a moment. There is something I need to deal with." Sesshomaru stood up and made to leave when one of the lords stopped him.
"It is the miko, is it not? Why not bring her in? I am sure we would all like to meet this miko." Fokkusu said, looking at the other lords with a huge smile on his face. "Maybe he has already found a mate and just wishes not to inform us. Keep in mind, if you don't pick a mate, we will pick for you, and we already have a demoness in mind." He added, looking slyly at the others.
"It is the miko. I will inform her you wish to meet her." Sesshomaru said as he left. After the door was closed, Fokkusu broke out laughing.
Out in the hall, Sesshomaru found Kagome quickly. When he saw her, his breath caught in his throat for a minute. She had found the kimono he had left for her and was wearing it. It fit her just like it should, he noticed with a smile. His eyes followed the flow of the fabric, but they lingered a few places just a bit too long.
"I see you found my gift to you. It fits perfectly." Sesshomaru said with a smirk and dancing eyes.
"Yes, but I must say, the stars in the wrong places." Kagome replied. It was a lovely kimono and fit perfectly, but the where the stars were placed bugged her.
"No, they are right where they belong." Sesshomaru said as he wrapped his arms around Kagome's waist. "I like it that way." he whispered in her ear.
She hadn't been paying attention and didn't notice just how close he was until she felt his arms around her. "Well, if they are suppose to be there, I guess it is okay." She said with a grin, happy that he wanted the contact. "Rosuto informed me that the other lords are here, so I won't keep you. I was just wondering about the kimono." Kagome said as she tried to wiggle out of Sesshomaru's arms.
Her actions to get free were arousing him rapidly. "Actually, they wish to meet you." He said, tightening his grip so that she would feel what she was doing to him.
Kagome felt something hard at the top of her hip and stopped moving. "Oh, okay. I'll meet them if they want." She looked up into his eyes. "If it's safe." She spoke in a small voice that made her sound vulnerable. Sesshomaru nodded and let her go, but maintained a hold on her hand, and led the way to the room that the other lords were in.
When Sesshomaru re-entered the room followed by Kagome, all talk ceased. Sesshomaru had let go of her hand when he had opened the door, but he managed to maintain some kind of contact with her by pushing her up to the table where the other lords were seated.
"This is Kagome, the miko." Sesshomaru introduced her, then directed her to a seat on his right. He then sat down himself and introduced the other lords to Kagome. "On your right is Fokkusu, Lord of the Northern Lands. Next to him is Kuma, Lord of the Eastern Lands. Next to him is Karasuhebi, Lord of the Southern Lands." He then fell silent, waiting for the other lords to speak.
"Sesshomaru, you didn't tell her what kind of youkai we were. Why?" Asked a curious Fokkusu.
"He didn't need to tell me." Kagome said. "You are a fox, he is a bear, and he is a snake." Kagome said, pointing to each lord as she said their species.
"We were told you were powerful. How powerful are you?" Karasuhebi asked. "You must have a good deal of power to be able to heal two demons, on your first try, no less."
Kagome looked to Sesshomaru and he nodded. "I am the protector of the Shikon no Tama. I have also defeated the hanyou, Naraku, who had in his possession over half of the fragments and was using them to increase his power." Kagome explained, calm and cool.
"And how did you do that?" Asked a confused Kuma.
Sesshomaru spoke up then. "You don't want to know. I was there and saw it." He told them.
"Of course I want to know. If I didn't, than I wouldn't have asked." he said, getting angry. "Do not presume to tell me what to do, pup."
"If you must know, I will tell you. I purified his ... equiment off while he was aroused." She said and smirked when she saw the lords realize what she had meant.
Fokkusu burst out laughing. "That's great. I almost believed you. There is no way you could have defeated Naraku. He has been causing trouble for us all for a while now and none of our warriors could defeat him." He said between laughs, when he got enough air to talk.
"I did too. I could demonstrate for you." Kagome retorted, angry that he didn't believe her, and by the looks of it, the other lords didn't either.
"Oh really?"
"Yes. On you." Kagome replied. She was getting really angry. They wanted to meet her and then they insulted her, and probably just because she was a human.
What she said cause Fokkusu to look at her, but he continued to chuckle until he got a good look at her. The other lords attention had also been drawn to her. Her aura was flying madly about her, looking very much like blue flames coming off of her.
Sesshomaru saw that she was angry once again, and placed his hand on her arm to draw her attention to him. When she looked his way, he saw her anger burning in her eyes. When she realized who it was that had touched her arm, and who she was looking at she calmed down.
She didn't look back at the other lords, instead she bowed her head. "I am sorry, but you should not have said that." Then she forgot her modesty and looked up. "Why shouldn't the protector of the Shikon no Tama be powerful? I would think the protector would have to be powerful in order to keep all the youkai that covet the tama away." Kagome explained to them, getting angry again just from the memory. She felt Sesshomaru squeeze her arm a little with his hand from where he had left it after she had calmed down.
All the lords agreed with her and began to take her seriously, except Fokkusu, who had to get one more joke in.
"Maybe you two should mate so that you can keep her in control." Fokkusu said with a playful grin. That caused Kagome to look at Sesshomaru in confusion, only to find him glaring at the lord.
"I have put up with your bothering me about that and I am tired of discussing it. It is practically all you have talked about since you got here. If you wish to remain here, as my guests, than I suggest you do not bring it or that ridiculous idea up again. I will have servants show you to your rooms. Your mates are there waiting, or they should be. You will be notified when dinner is served. I take my leave of you now and will see you at dinner." Sesshomaru said, his tone allowing no room for arguement. He had stood up while talking to the other lords, and now Kagome was standing beside him. He looked down at her, and walked out with Kagome right behind him.
Sesshomaru wordlessly walked Kagome to her room and once he got there, he realized that she would want to talk, but he didn't know what he would say.
"Why is you mating with me such a ridiculous idea?" Kagome asked as soon as the door to the room was closed.
Sesshomaru looked at her, thinking about what he would say. "It wasn't the idea of us mating that was ridiculous. It was the reason why Fokkusu said we should that was absurd." Sesshomaru explained. He then realized that he had just said he wouldn't mind mating with Kagome.
"How long do you have to pick a mate?" She asked, wanting to understand better. She wasn't sure how she felt about the idea of mating with Sesshomaru. She stood there, not being able to look at him, but at the same time not being able to look away from his intense gold eyes.
"About fifty days. I have until the end of the next full moon cycle." Sesshomaru told her. Kagome nodded and walked towards her bed. Sesshomaru stood where he was, stunned, wondering what she was doing.
Kagome had moved her bag to inside the curtain by her bed. She went to it now and got out the Shikon no Tama shards that she had gotten from Koga and Naraku. She sat down on the edge of her bed and concentrated on the jewel shards. When she looked up, there were tears in her eyes.
Sesshomaru walked over to her, concerned. "What's the matter? Don't worry. It'll be okay." Sesshomaru tried to comfort her, rubbing small circles on her back.
"It's not okay. The jewel is full." She showed the jewel to Sesshomaru, who looked completely confused. "Sango's little brother had a shard in his back and the jewel is complete. He couldn't live without that shard. He's dead now and Sango doesn't know. She already had to lose him once and have him come back, and now she's lost him again and she doesn't even know." Kagome explained to the demon lord. She held the jewel in both hands against her chest as she cried on Sesshomaru's shoulder.
After she had calmed down and stopped cry, Sesshomaru pulled back a little to look her in the face. "What were you doing when you realized it was complete?" Sesshomaru asked, curious.
"I wanted to know how many fragments I still had to get. But I guess now I don't have to get anymore. It's complete." Kagome said, not looking Sesshomaru in the face. She just rested her head against his chest as she thought about how she was going to tell her friend that her little brother was dead again.
Sesshomaru could tell she was lying to him, but didn't know what to do. She was distressed about her companions lose and he hardly knew how to comfort her about that. He leaned closer to her and pulled her closer. "I know you are lying to me, but I do not need to know now. I will wait until you are ready to tell me willingly." Sesshomaru told Kagome.
Kagome looked up at Sesshomaru, stunned for a minute that he knew. Then, she smiled at him. "I should have known better than to try to lie to you. It was nothing, really. Just a stupid idea. I don't know what I was thinking when I did it." Kagome said, standing up to put the Shikon no Tama on a chain so she could keep it with her. She looked back at Sesshomaru. "When's dinner?" she asked.
Just then, they heard a knock at the door. Then a servant called from the other side of the door, announcing that dinner was ready.
Kagome looked to Sesshomaru. "Well I guess that answers my question. We should probably go." Sesshomaru nodded once, stood up, and headed towards the door.
When they walked in to the dining hall, the other lords and their mates were already there. They all stopped talking when they saw Sesshomaru and Kagome walk in, but a minute later the room was filled with their chatter.
Then there was a loud scream sounding throughout the room. "Sesshomaru-sama." A small girl came running up to him and wrapped her small arms around his legs. Sesshomaru looked down at her and the other lords and their mates thought he would kill the human child. He surprised them by just patting her on the head and pushing her towards a table.
Kagome took Rin's hand and led her to a spot across from the Southern Lord's mate. Rin looked up at Kagome and her eyes opened up wide.
"Wow! Kagome-okaasan, you look really pretty." Rin exclaimed as Kagome sat down next to her.
Karasuhebi looked up at her. "This is your child?" he asked.
Kagome smiled and shook her head. "No, I just adopted her. I also have a kitsune child, but he is with some friends right now." Kagome explained to the quiet demon.
"These friends of yours, they are capable of taking care of the child?" he inquired.
"They are quite capable. One is a rather powerful monk and the other is the last demon exterminator of her village." Kagome said. "Although, Shippo may be giving them a few problems. He does sometimes when he's away from me for a while." she added.
"Rather odd company you keep, Sesshomaru." Fokkusu said, grinning.
"It is not my company to keep, it is Kagome's." Sesshomaru told the other lord.
"My apologies. Also, my apologies for my rudeness earlier." He said in a sincere voice and bowed from his seated position. The mates of the lords were shoked that Fokkusu would apologize to a human.
They all sat at a large, round table and Sesshomaru sat at what had been deemed the head of the table with Kagome on his right and Rin next to her. Rosuto sat on Rin's right. The Northern Lord and his mate were to the right of Rosuto and the Southern Lord and his mate were on Fokkusu's right. Finally, the Eastern Lord and his mate were to the right of Karasuhebi and the left of Sesshomaru.
Kagome noted that the females looked greatly like their mates, only smaller in height and frame. They even had the same markings. Kagome had been introduced to them shortly after she sat down. Mesuno was the Lady of North, Kuroguma was the Lady of the East, and Burraku was the Lady of the South.
