Chapter 19: Surprise
Kagome awoke in the dark and looked out the partially opened curtain to see that the sun had fallen beneath the horizon. Kagome then looked back to her mate from her spot snuggled against his left side, her head using his arm as a pillow. She watched him sleeping peacefully for a while before she rolled over and looked out the window listlessly.
"You're thinking about him, aren't you?" Sesshomaru asked as he rolled onto his side and wrapped his free arm around her torso, just below her breasts.
Kagome looked over her shoulder at him and then turned back to gaze out the window. "Yes. I'm worried about him. He may be an extreme baka, but I still worry about him." Kagome said, snuggling back into her mate. She then brought her left hand up to his and traced a finger along the lines of his muscles.
Sesshomaru reached over with his right hand and intertwined their fingers together. "You don't have to worry about him. I'm sure he will show himself soon enough." he tried to reassure her.
Kagome sighed. "I know, but..." Kagome said but was interrupted by Sesshomaru.
"Don't make me take your mind off of it. You know I can." he said as he freed his right hand and trailed it down her body some.
Kagome blushed as she thought about what he meant. "You are terrible." she told him. She rolled over and pushed Sesshomaru onto his back with her hands on his shoulders. "We mated ALL day, just about, and you still have energy?" she asked, completely amazed.
"I'm a demon. Of course I still have energy." he said, reversing their position so that he was on top. "We don't have to. Actually, you should rest now. Most humans wouldn't be able to handle everything we did." Sesshomaru said, gently brushing her hair away from her face. He then quickly returned them to the position that they had been in when Kagome had woke up. "Just rest." he told her as he soothingly rubbed her back.
Kagome snuggled into the crook of his arm and slung her arm over his chest, mindlessly tracing the muscles there. "How soon?" Kagome asked, sleepily.
Sesshomaru looked down at her and smiled. 'So she knows that I know where Inuyasha is. I like that.' he thought while he caressed her arm that now lay still on his chest. "He should be here by tomorrow. Now you should rest. I don't want you sick or anything." Sesshomaru said as he bent his head down to place a gentle kiss on her closed eyelids.
"Mkay." Kagome mummbled as she drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Kagome woke up still cuddled securely against Sesshomaru's side. She drapped her left arm over his chest and her leg over his.
"Morning, my mate." Sesshomaru said, hugging her to him.
"Morning." Kagome said as she snuggled in closer to Sesshomaru. "I suppose we should actually get out of bed today." she said, sitting up holding the blanket protectively over her chest.
Sesshomaru nodded from behind her and sat up. He quickly kissed Kagome on the lips before he got up and put his pants on. He grabbed his shirt and drapped it over Kagome shoulders. Kagome looked up at him, a questioning look in her eyes. He nodded at her and she slipped her arms in the sleeves and wrapped it around her.
Kagome wasn't sure why, but she knew it was important that she not be naked when she walked out into the rest of her room. She slowly scooted towards the edge of her bed and stood up, letting his shirt fall down just past her butt. She wrapped his shirt around her body tighter, wondering what had gotten him so up tight and worried, then she wondered how she knew he was worried. Kagome walked over to Sesshomaru and set a hand on his arm, drawing his attention to her momentarily.
Kagome looked past Sesshomaru and walked out into the main part of her room and was shocked to see Inuyasha sitting on her balcony. "Inuyasha? What are you doing here?" Kagome asked in a whisper. Kagome fell to her knees and would have completely collasped if Sesshomaru had not caught her.
"I know you told me not to come back, but I had to see you. I wanted to explain to you what happened." Inuyasha said, staring intently at Kagome. Then his gazed moved to Sesshomaru. "But I guess you are busy. I'll leave." he said, jumping up on the railing and got ready to jump off.
"Don't you dare." Sesshomaru growled before Inuyasha had time to jump off into the woods. "Don't you dare leave after doing this to her." Sesshomaru would have went over and grabbed Inuyasha by the back of his neck if he hadn't been holding Kagome up.
Inuyasha didn't turn back to face them. "You seem to be handling it just fine." he said, getting ready to jump again, but he stopped and actually turned around when he heard his name.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome yelled. She had raised her eyes to his form perched on the railing, tears glistening in them, but she refused to let the salty water fall.
Inuyasha jumped back off the railing and took a few steps toward the woman sitting on the floor. Then he saw the glint in her eyes and wished he would have just jumped when he had the chance.
"SIT!" Kagome yelled at him.
Inuyasha felt the magic of the subduing spell draw him towards the floor hard and fast, and felt his skull come into contact with the hard, cold floor, causing him to groan. He didn't curse or complain; he knew he deserved it and so much more.
They all remained silent until Inuyasha moved to get up, his eyes downcast, not looking at either of them. He just sat on the floor, looking very much like a rejected puppy. Sesshomaru left his arms around his mate, even though she was over her intial shock. And Kagome let him, taking comfort in his nearness.
"Inuyasha," Kagome said, making sure to have his attention before she continued. "Go to the dinning hall and wait. You said you were going to explain, and you will." she told him.
Inuyasha looked at her, surprised, but did as she wanted. He stood up, his eyes, laid back in depression, and left her room.
Sesshomaru stared at her for a while, concerned. He gently brushed the back of his hand along her cheek to her jawline. "Are you alright?" he asked her.
"Yes," Kagome said, leaning into his caress. "I'll be okay. You should go get dressed." she told him, staring at his revealed chest. "And so should I." she said, glancing at her revealed thighs. Though, she had to admit that her school uniform showed almost as much.
"We should." Sesshomaru agreed, but he didn't release his hold on her. Instead, he hugged her closer and nuzzled his face into her hair. "But I don't want to." he whispered to her.
Kagome sighed and leaned into his embrace, taking comfort from him. "I am not going to run around in this all day. Not today." Kagome said, turning her head and placing a soft kiss on his cheek before she unwrapped his arms from around her and stood. Kagome walked over to her closet and took out a plain red kimono with lighter patterns on the sleeves that had a thin white obi folded within it. She turned back around and saw Sesshomaru standing there, his golden gaze watching her intently. Then she smiled at him. "I may need some help tying this obi." she said.
"I thought I didn't get to watch you change?" he asked, smirking. "But, if you insist." he said, shrugging. He just walked over to her and when he reached her, he slid his hands inside his shirt that now hung loosely about her body. He pushed the fabric off of her shoulders, but was prohibited from falling to the floor by her arms. Sesshomaru took the kimono from her hands which allowed the shirt to pool around her feet on the floor.
Sesshomaru unfolded the kimono and helped Kagome into it and quickly tied the obi for her. "You should know that I won't do this for you often. You must learn to do it for yourself. Besides, it would not do for others to know that the Lord of the Western Lands has been reduced to a dressing maid for his mate." Sesshomaru said as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Don't worry. No one will find out. Now we should go talk to Inuyasha." Kagome said as she stepped away from him and grabbed her hairbrush from her bag on the way out of the room.
Sesshomaru mentally slapped himself as he went to his room and quickly got changed. He made his way to the dinning hall and found Kagome calmly sitting there as her companions yelled at the hanyou. He noticed that Rin and Shippo had already gone off somewhere with Rosuto to watch over them.
"Inuyasha, how dare you do that? What ever gave you the idea that Kagome would just forgive you after something like that." Sango said, Miroku holding her back so that she wouldn't pulverize him. It was also a good thing that her giant boomerang had been left back in her and Miroku's room.
"That is enough." Sesshomaru said as he sat down beside Kagome.
"Sesshomaru is right. Inuyasha came here to explain and I told him that he would be heard out." Kagome said in a serene voice.
Sango looked at the young miko, a dumbfounded look crossing her face. She quickly relaxed, though an unhappy look still occupied her face. She sat down with a huff and crossed her arms over her chest. "I still think he needs beaten." she said quietly, but Kagome still heard her and smiled.
Kagome noticed Inuyasha staring at the food, drooling, once Sango had settled down. Kagome was about to say something, but was interrupted before she could even open her mouth.
"You might as well eat something." Sesshomaru told the hungry hanyou.
Kagome smiled a little, but then noticed Inuyasha watching her. "Go ahead. It's not as if we can eat all of this." Kagome told him and had to hold back a giggle as Inuyasha almost divebombed the table.
Kagome sat back, her hands folded in her lap, and watched Inuyasha eat for a while until she felt something moving around in her lap. She looked down and saw one of Sesshomaru's clawed hands trying to take ahold of her own. Kagome smiled to herself and manuevered her hands so that his hand was resting between her own, their fingers twined together. She looked back up to watch the room and felt his thumb gently rub over the back of her hand.
She scanned over the table and saw that about half of the food that had been there when she came in was gone. Kagome decided that she had waited long enough to hear Inuyasha's explanation of his actions. She cleared her throat and waited while Inuyasha swallowed a mouthful of food and looked towards her with scared eyes.
"You can eat more later, Inuyasha." Kagome reasured him, her gaze resting on him. She then looked at Sango and Miroku, knowing it would be hard enough for Inuyasha to tell her and Sesshomaru, let alone the others. "Sango, Miroku, could you go out and watch the children, please?" Kagome asked them, a deeper meaning behind her request. They both nodded and stood up, exiting the room quickly.
Kagome looked back to Inuyasha, waiting for him to begin and noticed how much he had changed. He went from being proud and arrogant to being sad and dejected. Kagome, deciding he wasn't going to start speaking anytime soon, spoke up. "Inuyasha, would explain what happened, please?" Kagome asked, her voice soft and gentle.
Inuyasha nodded slowly as he took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. "Would you promise not to get mad at me and sit me, please?" Inuyasha asked, his ears flattened against his head and his eyes downcast.
Kagome nodded at him. "I promise." she said. "I won't say the word, but I may get a little mad." she told him truthfully. She watched as Inuyasha nodded and swallowed.
