[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

A.N. Hello all! This is my first story as I've already said. I decided that after reading these for so long and thoroughly enjoying them I wanted to give it a try so here I am. I hope you enjoy it and feedback is appreciated!

The History of Our World

Long ago, before the people knew the peace it has enjoyed for many centuries, it was submerged in a war that had no end in sight. Innocent people were dieing as they were conscripted into the armies of the many warring factions.

Eventually, there came to be only 2 of these factions remaining, the Shinniria and the Isceria. They were locked in a deadlock with neither side being able to take advantage. That was until the 2 crown princes of Isceria, came to possess the 2 great swords.

The swords held unfathomable power, and could kill many enemies with the slightest effort. But above all else, they were dangerous to even the wielders. They were on the brink of good and evil, the slightest action could bring them to either side with disastrous repercussions.

The two nameless swords had been crafted in a far away volcano, completely identical in power. When given to the princes, they quickly turned the tide against the Shinniria defeating them easily.

With the fighting over, the 2 princes become rulers, and in their reign there was peace. All should have been peaceful in the land. Yet where there are humans…greed and evil lurk.

The eldest of the 2 brothers had come to think himself of more than a co-ruler. He wanted everything and would do anything to obtain absolute rule. He saw only one way to possess such a power; he would need to be the owner of both of the great swords. Only then, he thought, would his dominion be absolute.

He went to confront his brother and asked for the other sword. His brother refused him, however, and thus the eldest attacked him. With this action, the sword he held grew dark and tainted and thus was created Muramasa the evil sword.

The youngest however, would not fight his brother and instead sheathed his sword and stood firm as he was cut down by his own flesh and blood. Thus his sword became the opposite of his brother's; it became one of the light and purity never to be used for evil. When the eldest went to claim what he had murdered for, the pure sword's energy burst out killing him instantly.

With this the kingdom of Isceria crumbled, giving way to another era of battle. The swords were sealed away, never to be used again for no man could use the one of light, and the one of dark was too dangerous. They would remain this way forever.

After the end of the kingdom of Isceria…

“This is ridiculous, I'm not reading this thing” A girl said, tossing the book across the library with a groan.

The girls name is Kagome Higurashi; current princess of the North Kingdom of Japan. The north is one of the 4 kingdoms now in existence, the others being the East, West and South. The 4 kingdoms are on shaky peace terms at the current time, 500 years after the time of Isceria.

An attendant quickly shuffled over to the book and picked it up settling it back on the shelf. “My lady, you did say you wanted to learn about the outside world. Your father asked me to show you this. It really is a good book about the subject”

“My father misunderstood me then. I wanted to know about the current world. Not this dumb fairy tale. What happened long ago is no longer a concern” Kagome said, getting up from the table.

“My lady, it is not a dumb fairy tale!” Her servant protested as she followed her. “At least give it a chance…”

“No! I'm going to demand he takes me out of here for once, I want to see outside this stuffy castle.” Kagome said, leaving the servant in the library with an astonished scared look on her face.

“My lord, the village southeast of our gates has been destroyed by a demon, what are your orders?” Up in the throne room, King Akira was talking to one of his vassals and wasn't too happy.

“Has the demon gone?” The man nodded silently. “Then I'll go and inspect the damage, only proper for…” Kagome's voice interrupted him.

“Father what are you thinking? Why would you give me that book when I asked you about CURRENT events?!” Kagome practically yelled at her father, with fire in her eyes. Akira almost fell backwards. With all his duties and sights he saw, his daughter by far scared him the most.

“The world outside is too dangerous for you Kagome” Akira said as he matched her gaze. “You are far too young to…” She interrupted again.

“I'm 17, why do you keep me sheltered like this, don't you trust me to make my own decisions?!” Kagome yelled. “Why can't you see that?!”

Back on the throne Queen Asami answered back before Akira could interject. “Dear, maybe you could take her on this outing of yours? She needs to learn how to be a good ruler some day and this is a good place to start”

“Fine!” Akira bellowed as Kagome sent her mother an appreciative glance. “I'll give you your wish then if you're so eager to learn. Be down at the gates in 5 minutes and I'll take you along to a nearby village, is that OK?”

Kagome's eyes immediately widened but she remained skeptical. “Are you telling the truth? Last time you said something like this you went out the other gate leaving me behind” Akira sighed and nodded showing her he was telling the truth. She was hit by a wave of elation but was careful not to show it or else her father may change his mind.

“Sir, are you certain?” His vassal piped in. “There could be trouble if we encounter…” he trailed off at the death glares the princess was giving him.

“Come we don't have all day, it shall be night soon and we will not even have the moonlight to help us if we should run late. The new cycle begins tonight.” Akira stated ignoring his vassal.

“Naraku?” He said while looking over his shoulder at the council table to search for the person who held the most power outside the royal family. “Take care of things here, we shouldn't be long.”

Kagome winced as the name came out as she looked back to see a rather greasy looking demon smirk. He had long wanted to rule and was next in line after Kagome. She didn't know why but she disliked him greatly. It was something about his voice that seemed underhanded.

“Yes my lord, I live at your command.” Naraku said. “I have some business to attend to but I shouldn't be long.” He turned to leave slinking out the door at the far side of the throne room.

He was the person in charge of keeping the populace outside the castle happy. He took care of taxes and law as well as keeping the area's resistance under control. It was an important position to say the least.

“Kagome, I know how you feel about him but he's proved himself to be trustworthy many times, you don't need to worry.” Akira whispered to her as he observed the look of distrust in his daughter's eyes. “Come on, let's go.”

She turned to go with her father with a bit of uneasiness but excitement was coursing through her nonetheless. She was finally going to see what lay beyond her sheltered life. Nothing could ruin this for her.

Naraku slinked down the passageways of the castle in the direction of his quarters. Once inside he noticed a figure hiding in the shadows. Knowing full well who it was he questioned the man “Do you have it?”

His answer was the man lunging at him with a sword drawn point out, attempting to run him through. Without so much as a breath, Naraku sidestepped the thrust and rammed a concealed dagger up into the man's heart. He crumpled to the ground.

“It seems he found it then, the evil sword, Muramasa…” Laughing quietly to himself he picked up the sword to discover the sword's spirit attempt to take him over. `One such as me will not be swayed by you' he thought.

`Do you think so? I can see it in your heart the immense greed, the ambition to rule… what makes you so different from the fools I've taken over in the past?' The sword's evil spoke to him attempting to take him over.

`The difference is I have no need of your power, yet. There will come a time when I will use you to my own ends, but it isn't now.'

He felt the sword delve into his mind, searching for answers. `I see, interesting… You are truly sinister aren't you? Heh, fine I will help you for now. Just grant me a body.'

`Fine, I have one in mind already. He desires what he cannot have and thus is doomed to wallow in despair for his miserable life.' He smirked. He finally had it, the final piece to complete his schemes. It was time to begin…
