Back at the camp, Sango had dragged Miroku up against a tree and was standing out in the middle of the clearing fully outfitted for battle. Her eyes darted around the landscape of the trees, watching for any movement. Shippo had hid in one of the packs in fear after coming back from gathering some food.

Being a fox, he was the best at going over landscape and picking up anything that was edible. He couldn't hunt but he could gather mushrooms, fruits, nuts and other stuff. He was quite pleased with being a part of the group.

Suddenly a smoke bomb was thrown into the clearing from her right, plunging the whole area into smoke. She hurled her giant boomerang and smirked as the weapon easily dissipated the smoke. However, that was what the assassin had been waiting for.

Before the boomerang could return to her, he threw his chain sickle. The blade whizzed through the air and she barely had any time to react. She barely managed to dodge a fatal strike as the weapon buried itself in her left shoulder. It was yanked out as she fell to the ground.

She looked back at her shoulder, `Not too bad, I can still move.' She raised her arm and caught the returning weapon and looked up to see a small boy emerge from the surrounding the trees. Her heart skipped when she saw his face. “Kohaku?”

The ninja that had been left behind to fight Inuyasha were not faring too well. A good quarter of their numbers were dead after a failed charge. They had aimed for the girl and had all received fatal blows from the half demon.

The head one waved a few hand signals to his group and they all jumped into the trees and disappeared. Inuyasha moved backwards closer to Kagome as he scanned the landscape. All at once the remaining ninjas leapt out of the trees high above the pair.

Withdrawing throwing stars, they all hurled them exactly in time with each other. Inuyasha leapt upwards. “Head down!” He yelled back at Kagome. He blew through the flying weapons and reached the now conveniently placed ninjas. `Heh, they can't dodge in the air!'

With one circular swing, a dozen or so fell to the ground dead. The remaining 3 decided to count their losses as they leapt off through the trees. Inuyasha landed gracefully and smirked, “That wasn't so tough.”

“Are you ok?” Kagome asked from behind him.

“Keh! The day a human hurts me is the day hell freezes over!” He shoved his sword back in its sheath. “Come on! We need to check on Sango.” Kagome nodded and rose to follow, but instead was swept up on his back as he launched into a sprint back to camp.

The battle between the two slayers raged on. Sango didn't know what to do against her brother and could only avoid his attacks. Kohaku on the other hand had no reservations whatsoever.

”Kohaku! What are you doing?” She screamed at him after blocking his scythe and grabbing the chain of the weapon. “Don't you know who I am?!” Kohaku merely yanked the chain out of her grasp and threw the ball of it at her face.

She swiveled her head to the side and ran forward to intercept him before the chain could return. Kohaku leapt backwards away from her tugging on the scythe bringing it into her unprotected back. She fell to the ground and hissed as he removed the chain.

She stood up, discovering this wound wasn't that bad. `Strange…' She thought looking at her body. `None of these wounds are bad. Its like he doesn't want to…' Her head snapped up. “Kohaku! Stop this! Why do we have to fight!?” He didn't answer but instead lifted up the chain once again.

“Sango!” Inuyasha burst into the clearing with Kagome running behind him having been let off his back when he saw the situation. He landed in front of Kohaku and throttled him, sending him to the ground.

He then leapt on top of him and grabbed his throat. “Who sent you?” He yelled at him. No answer. “Who!?” He dug in his claws but there was still no reaction out of the boy. No pain, no fear, nothing.

“Don't hurt him!” Sango screamed at him. Inuyasha looked up at her with a confused frown on his face. “Please! Don't hurt him!” Kohaku took this opportunity to yank some scent balls out of his pocket and hurl them into Inuyasha's face.

Inuyasha sputtered and fell backwards, his senses aggravated by the stench as he collapsed in a daze. “Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled as she ran to his side. Kohaku leapt up and took off through the trees.

Sango watched her brother disappear with a pained expression on her face. “What the fuck are you thinking Sango!?” She turned around to see Inuyasha fuming despite being a little dazed. “He fucking attacked us! What's the point of mercy?!” Sango turned away and walked out of the clearing, head downcast.

“Wait! I'm not done with you!” Inuyasha got up before falling flat on his face. “Crappy poison, my balance's all off.” He muttered.

“Please leave her alone, Inuyasha.” Kagome said softly. He spun his angry gaze on her. “Sango wouldn't do that without a good reason. I think there's something familiar about that boy. Did you notice that he was dressed like a slayer? Maybe she knows him.”

“I don't care if she knows him! That bastard came after us and we let him get away. Next time you won't get off so easy you know.” He looked back at where Sango left. “Next time you could…” He couldn't finish.

“I could what?” They were interrupted with some coughs coming from the direction of the trees. They turned to see Miroku now fully awake.

“I hate to break this up but can I point it out that Sango has left alone and without her weapon?” Kagome paled at this.

“What about those three ninjas?” She asked. “What if they find her?” Inuyasha tried to get up but found he couldn't.

“I'll go.” Miroku said getting up slowly. “I may not be in the best condition but I'm better then Inuyasha. You stay here Kagome.” She nodded. Miroku bent down to pick up his staff and left after Sango.

Sango stopped after she was sure no one would hear her from the camp. She fell to her knees and hit the ground as she broke down. Tears fell freely as she pounded the ground again and again and again. “Damn it!”

It was painful to think about. Her brother was dead. He was in the village when it was attacked there were no bodies though. That always struck her as strange but Miroku had said Naraku used them for his drugs.

“What am I supposed to do?” She asked herself quietly. “How am I supposed to…”

“…fight your brother?” She jumped as Miroku appeared behind her. She quickly wiped her teary eyes and turned around to look at him.

“How did you?” He smiled kindly.

“You told me once of him. A small shy looking boy with a freckled face and wielded that scythe chain. Plus I don't think you'd do that for anyone but family, right?” She nodded.

“What should I do? If we see him again does that mean I have to fight him? He may have changed but he's still my brother.”

“He didn't change Sango.” She looked at him with anger.

“My brother would never do that! He's kind he wouldn't kill me or any other who didn't wish him harm!”

“I never said he did but he isn't himself. From the looks of it he's being controlled through drugs.” Sango looked down at the ground as his words sank in. “There is a possibility to help him but it's the same as every other way to break one of his toxins; kill Naraku.”

She nodded trying desperately to fight back tears. “I'm sorry, I didn't even ask you if you're ok. I hit you pretty hard.”

He laughed at her. “Come on Sango every time you've hit me I've probably deserved it. Don't worry about me I'm used to it.” She giggled lightly with him.

“By the way I've always wondered why his toxins are connected to him. Do you know why?” Miroku sighed.

“I thought you would have figured that out already. He puts his own essence into them. It's the most important ingredient allowing his will to overcome someone else's. If Naraku dies the toxins lose their potency as they no longer have any master and therefore are useless.”

She nodded. “Well let's back to camp then, shall we?” He said offering her his arm. She eyed it suspiciously before taking it slowly and following him. A loud yell came from the clearing as they returned.

“Hey! You've got some explaining to do! You're not getting off that easy!” Inuyasha was lying against a tree at the other edge still not quite recovered. Sango sighed and began to walk to explain but Miroku picked up speed and passed her.

When he got to Inuyasha he bent down and thumped him soundly on the head. “That's enough. You don't go screaming at someone. She'll tell you when she's ready.” Inuyasha growled as he rubbed his head.

“Is it safe to come out yet?” A voice called from the packs. They all looked over to see Shippo peek his head out of the packs. Seeing no enemies within the clearing he got out and scampered over to jump into Kagome's arms.

“Everything's fine Shippo.” Kagome assured him come on its getting late you can help make dinner.” He nodded happily as they went off to see what he had found.

“Wait Kagome! I need to tell everyone something!” She stopped and turned around to walk back. “Well…That boy who attacked…” She looked down at the ground in shame. “He's my brother.”
