The assassin who had spread the rumours in the East kingdom returned late that night. On his way into Naraku's secret base of operations, some sentries stopped him. “Hey stop there you…Oh… you're him.” The first one said, emphasizing the “him” part.
“Go in, the master's waiting.” The second one said. As soon as the assassin was out of sight, he turned to his sentry partner. “That kid freaks me out…” The other sentry nodded in agreement.
He walked to the middle of the room and stopped, barely noticing his master emerge from the shadows to his left. “Did you succeed?” The assassin nodded emotionlessly.
“Good… it's done. The east is mine. Now I have another job for you.”
The assassin nodded slowly but gave no answer. “Go west and find a small group consisting of a demon slayer, a girl, a monk, and a half demon.” The assassin barely registered the rest as demon slayer rang in his head. He knew that from somewhere.
“When you find them… kill them” The assassin nodded slowly. “Take a group of the ninjas to help you, this group is troublesome.” He nodded again and began to make for the door. “Oh, and one more thing.”
He stopped and turned back around. “One of your targets may be someone you know…” He flashed an evil grin. “Do not falter or else you will die, Kohaku.”
“Hey! Hurry it up will you!” Inuyasha called to the group behind them. “We need to make it to the main road by nightfall!” Those following him quickened at his order.
They were heading for a road normally used for trade between the North and East kingdoms. The priestess' village was near to this and with the collapse of the North; the road should be more or less deserted. The open area, they had decided, would help them avoid robbers.
“Can't we rest at all?” Kagome whined. “We've been moving since morning.” She got a scowl in response.
“No, we're making that road even if you pathetic humans have to collapse when we get there.” Kagome ran up to him fuming.
“What do you mean collapse?!” She said shaking with fury. “We're stopping now!” She shrieked.
“Make me!” He hollered back with equal volume. Behind a pair of sighs rang out.
“Geez, that's the third fight today.” Sango whined. “It's getting tiresome.”
Miroku nodded in agreement. “Yeah, well, if you want to go in there and attempt to solve it be my guest.” She winced, thinking of what would happen if she tried.
Miroku nodded in agreement. “Yeah, well, if you want to go in there and attempt to solve it be my guest.” She winced, thinking of what would happen if she tried.
“No, I think I'd rather wait it out.” She said sitting down slowly finding a hand waiting for her on the descent. SMACK! He was out cold spread out on the ground. Sango saw an opportunity quelling her desire to throw him in a river.
“Hey, you guys!” Two angry faces rounded on her. “I think we better stop, Miroku's indisposed!” They looked at Miroku's unconscious form.
“See Inuyasha! I told you we couldn't keep going on like this!”
“I'll bet the fucking lecher couldn't keep his hands to himself.” He muttered under his breath. “Fine, we'll stop until he's able to walk again.” He struggled to keep his anger in check as Kagome gave him a victory smile and walked away. “Keh!” he said before leaping off into the trees.
“Nice one Sango!” Kagome smiled at her.
Sango laughed. “It's too bad poor Miroku had to suffer.” They both giggled. “Ah well, he's been through worse” Kagome stretched and grabbed the pot they had been using for water, it was almost empty.
“I'll go get some water.” Sango nodded, and Kagome left the clearing. She left in the direction of the stream that intersected the road they were looking for. They had been using it for bearings but now it served another purpose.
Sango deposited Miroku against a tree as she waited for him to wake up. `With that hit he won't be up for a good couple of hours though…' She got up to go get something from her pack but stopped as a gasp sounded behind her. She spun around to see Miroku sweating and writhing in his unconsciousness.
She ran back over to him, realizing he was having one of his drug induced nightmares. He screamed in pure agony as he fell over to his side clutching at his chest. She snatched him up into her lap in an effort to console him.
“Miroku, it's ok. It's ok, so relax and breathe.” She said in a soothing tone. He seemed to calm down somewhat but still twitching every so often.
After what seemed like an hour, he settled down. Seeing he was in a peaceful sleep, she relaxed. Sango started when Inuyasha dropped down from the trees. “Where's Kagome?” He asked.
“She went to get water” Sango said pointing in the direction she had left.
“What? Stupid girl, we shouldn't be separated like this.” He turned and began walking towards the trees, flexing his claws in anger.
“You seem concerned Inuyasha…” She said in an amused tone. “I thought she was just a burden?”
“Keh!” He turned around to prevent Sango from seeing his rapidly inflaming face. “Nothing like that…” He mumbled.
Sango opened her mouth to say something else but was stopped by a scream. “Kagome!” She yelled as Inuyasha took off in the direction of the scream.
Kagome had narrowly dodged an attack from a mysterious boy by falling over herself. He had just dropped out of the trees and lashed out. He wore the same clothing as Sango did during battle and wielded a sickle weapon with a chain and ball. She whimpered in fear and began to crawl backwards before running into a tree.
He hesitated for a second seeing her trembling with fear, before throwing it once again, aimed directly at Kagome's neck. In a flash of movement the weapon was stopped as a sword met it. Her saviour landed in between them as he growled. “Who the fuck are you?”
The boy pulled his weapon back and moved into a fighting stance, face blank. Inuyasha snorted, “Listen brat, I don't know who the hell you are but you should pick you're fights more wisely.” Inuyasha lowered his sword, pointing at the boy.
The boy moved first throwing the chain to the side and jerking it back, sending it in an arched path around Inuyasha towards Kagome. Inuyasha leapt to the side and hit the sickle's chain, wrapping the weapon around his sword. “Bastard! You're fights with me!”
He pulled on the chain with all his strength, launching the boy towards him. The boy let go of the chain and landed on his knees sliding on Inuyasha's left as the ball on the chain went past on the right, aimed at Kagome. Inuyasha cursed and threw his sword away taking the sickle chain with it.
“I said I'm your opponent!” He leapt at the boy tackling him to the ground. A concealed blade came out of his arm and he raked Inuyasha cheek with it causing him to leap off him onto the ground. The wound immediately grew purple. “Heh! Poison eh?”
He had seen the same type of poison being used by Sango; it was fatal to most demons yet harmless to humans. However, Inuyasha was not a demon and therefore the effects of the poison were mild. He leapt forward and swung his fist into the ground as the boy dodged out of the way. His fist rammed into the ground where the boy had been.
The boy had jumped in the direction of his sickle and untangled it from Inuyasha's sword before sending it back at Kagome. Inuyasha leapt forward to intercept it with his arm. The blade cut a deep gash as Inuyasha hissed and leapt back to stand in front of Kagome.
Pulling the weapon back, he was about to attack again but a figure dropped out of the trees next to him, dressed like a ninja. It whispered in his ear and the boy nodded jumping off in the direction of where they had camped. Inuyasha cursed loudly and turned to follow however a second ninja landed in front of him.
In a matter of seconds twenty or so others dropped, surrounding him and Kagome. In complete synchronization, they pulled out small objects. `Crap! Fire bombs!' He thought as they threw them. He quickly grabbed Kagome and pushed off the tree, soaring over the ninjas to land away from them in the direction of his sword.
He quickly placed her down and brandished his sword again. One of the ninjas, probably the leader, made a signal to the others and they surrounded the pair once again. Inuyasha quickly pulled off his outer shirt and tossed it to Kagome. “It's special!” he said to her. “It's better than any armour so keep it on!” She nodded and draped it over her shoulders and head. “Now then, how about some fun?”
