Chapter 1: More Surprises!
An uneventful week and a half later finds the group traveling as per their normal: Kagome clutching to InuYasha's back as he races over the ground and through the trees while Miroku, Shippo, and Sango ride a transformed Kirara. The only oddity about this scene today is the bored looking Demon Lord that floats alongside the fire cat on his cloud. Sango occasionally glances at Sesshomaru, only to be met each time with his cold, emotionless gaze. Damn, that's unnerving. Sango thinks to herself as she turns her attention back to the landscape flying by her.
If we keep traveling at this pace, we should get to Kaeda's by this evening. InuYasha thinks as he raced through the trees with Kagome pressing tightly against his back. He jumped to the ground and then sprang almost immediately back into the trees simply to make Kagome squeeze his waist with her legs. Images of her writhing in pleasure beneath him raced through his mind and he fights down his arousal. Kagome's gentle sniffing of the air brought him back to his senses as he too caught the scent she was trying to identify. Oh shit, we're in Koga's territory. Maybe we'll get lucky and that mangy wolf will stay away.

As it was, luck was not with them. Around midday the group stopped for lunch and as Kagome finished making the Ramen, a familiar dust storm came whipping through the trees only to stop mere inches in front of Kagome. A smiling Koga grasped her clawed right hand for a quick kiss, but his lips never made it to her skin. His eye's widened with shock, and possibly a little admiration, as he took in the slight change in her scent as well as the differences in her body. Kagome blushed furiously as Koga walked around her, mentally noting each of her changes: from the new fullness of her form to her newly acquired tail; before stopping in front of her again, his smile broader than before.
“My, Kagome, you make a beautiful wolf,” Koga did kiss her hand this time, his grin growing even wider, “Did you do this for me?” The insinuation in his tone was just too much for InuYasha. Bounding forward, he yanked the wolf away from Kagome and growled in his face.
“She's not a wolf. She's a dog!” InuYasha spat at him. His growl escalated as he opened his mouth to continue, but something cut him off.
*Actually, she's both* stated a cool, silky voice in their minds. Sango and Miroku, suddenly startled, looked around for the source of the voice, but saw no one besides those already present. It took them a moment to realize that the voice was in the minds, although no one else seemed fazed by this, and they turned to each other in shock as the voice spoke again. *Not that it matters, wolf or dog…..both breeds are members of the Canine family….* the voice spoke again, but this time Sesshomaru replied.
“Who are you, and where do you hide. You can unmask your scent now, we know you are near…..you would have to be in order to speak mind to mind.” His hand rested on the hilt if tokijin as he spoke. InuYasha and Koga glancing around, both in defensive stances to either side of Kagome who simply sighed……something seemed very familiar about that voice.
*I am glad to see that you remember me at least slightly, little cousin…* said the voice as a large brownish-red falcon landed gently on her shoulder. Startled, Kagome jumped with a gasp, causing the bird to temporarily lose its balance; resulting in its talons biting into the girl's shoulder. Kagome winced as the rest of the group stared dumbfounded at the bird. InuYasha, being closest, grabbed one of its wings and pulled. The bird turned her angry emerald gaze on him and hissed menacingly, making him snort.
“Feh, like bird could hurt me,” nonchalantly he sat down and grabbed one of the cooling containers of ramen which, up until this point, had been forgotten about. Pausing after a few slurping bites he looked back up at the bird still on Kagome's shoulder and asked, “Just who are you anyway, and what do you know about this?” He gestured to Kagome's appearance and the rest of the group immediately took a new interest in the bird.
*Why don't you all sit down and eat and I will explain who I am, although I can't answer you're questions about Kagome. It is not my place to say, seeing as she is not blood kin to me…..* The falcon trailed off as she watched the members of the odd group settle into comfortable positions on the ground, all except Sesshomaru who remained standing, and grabbed containers of ramen. As Kagome made herself comfortable on the ground, Shippo crawled into her lap and brought himself face to face with the falcon that simply blinked at him.
I wonder how it would taste roasted, the little kitsune thought to himself. The bird's eyes widened slightly before she swiftly pecked his nose. *I think not little one,* came the voice in Shippo's mind, *Besides if you eat me, Kagome will be very mad at you.* Sighing, Shippo curled up in Kagome's lap and was content to let his adopted mother feed him bits of her ramen.
*Now, if we are all settled?* The falcon looked around at her captive audience, noting the uneasiness of the group. *Don't worry, I won't harm her.* She reassured everyone as she gently rubbed her feathery cheek against Kagome's silky skin. The group let out a collective sigh, even Koga seemed to relax slightly as he too nibbled some ramen, and wondered what it was that made him want to sit like this with the others.
*As I was saying, I won't hurt Kagome. She is practically family to me. Anyway, my name is Faele…* at this Kagome's eyes went wide and she grabbed the bird from her shoulder.
“Faele?!?” she whispered in awe, as well as shock, “But what happened to you? You were a human girl the last time I saw you…” Kagome stopped speaking as Faele's laughter rang in everyone's heads.
*I was never human Kagome. It was just an illusion we use…to make people think we're human! Didn't you ever wonder why you were forbidden to spend time with any of us after you reached a certain age? Silly! Your miko powers were kicking in and no one knew how you would handle the fact that you're friends, and family members, were demons.* She was shaking in Kagome's grasp, she was laughing so hard. Wiggling free, she leapt to the ground and again looked around at the group, noting that they had finished their food. *Are we ready to get moving again? Kagome, you're mother is worried sick about you! We should hurry back as fast as possible.*
Kagome nodded absently as she helped the others gather up their mess and get ready to continue on. As Miroku and Sango boarded Kirara, Koga cleared his throat. “I'm coming with you. I want to find out as well, what had happened to my woman.” He offered her his most charming smile and she couldn't help but smile back. InuYasha opened his mouth to tell the wolf `hell no', but Kagome beat him to it.
“You're more than welcome to come along, Koga, so long as you promise not to fight with InuYasha,” she smiled sweetly at both of them as the aforementioned males exchanged venomous glares.
“I promise not to get into any fights with InuYasha…when you are present,” he said between gritted teeth, but Kagome wasn't listening. She simple waved her hand in acceptance, as she got on InuYasha's back. The hanyou grinned evilly at the wolf as he took off with Kagome.
***************************************************************** *******
They were just outside of the village when it happened. A giant rabbit demon simply appeared out of no where and snatched Kagome from InuYasha's back. “Give me the shards!” the creature hissed at her as it used her as a shield against her friends. Kagome screamed, causing the rabbit to lay its ears back in pain, but it continued to use the girl as a shield. InuYasha, tetsusaiga drawn, edged towards the rabbit, which simply back away, keeping its back guarded against attack. Sesshomaru and Koga moved towards either side of the rabbit, Sango and Miroku standing with weapons ready incase they got any opening. Shippo stood atop Kirara shaking his little fist at the creature hollering, `Put my momma down.'
Before anyone had a chance to do much, a dual cry of `Celestial Arrow' pierced the air as twin purification arrows, one shining silver, the other sapphire, ripped through the rabbit's back. Surprised, the demon dropped Kagome just before it crumbled to dust. Koga, always the opportunist, rushed in to catch the falling Kagome and spirit her back over to her companions. Everyone sighed with relief before turning their attention to their `saviors.' Two very lovely female hanyous stood a short way up the path, each holding a bow. Grumbling loudly, InuYasha stormed up to the pair, twins by the look of them.
“We didn't need you're help!” he growled at them, causing them both to simply lift an eyebrow quizzically.
“That's not how it looked to us,” said the shorter of the two. She slung her bow casually over her bared shoulder before adjusting the crimson halter top she wore. Two cute little ears adorned her head, much like InuYasha's, and a long black cat's tail swayed behind her. Her bright sapphire eyes flashed with laughter as she met InuYasha's angry gaze and she shrugged. Flipping her long, ebony tresses back over her shoulders she turned her attention to the rest of the group behind the irate inu-hanyou.
The slightly taller female glared at InuYasha, the ears atop her own head laid back flat, before looking over his shoulder at Kagome. “Is he always this much of an asshole, cousin? I mean I know you said he was rather rude in your letters, but I never imagined that he was this obnoxious!” Silver eyes flashed with amusement as she shoved InuYasha aside and strode over to Kagome. Grinning ear to ear, the group got a good look at the girl's elongated canines before she pulled Kagome into a tight hug.
Turning to glare at this new female that was suddenly embracing `his Kagome', InuYasha growled. No one pushes me around and gets away with it, damn it! He growled to himself as he noticed that this girl had a tail very similar to Kagome's except that this girl's was longer. Before he had a chance to say anything though, the girl released Kagome from the hug and turned to him with her hands on her hips.
“I'll push you around all I want, pup” she snapped at him, his eyes going wide as he realized that she'd heard his thoughts.
“Oh Kami!” Kagome gasped suddenly, her eyes going wide and her ears perking straight up. “Shadow……and Death Strike…..oh Kami, is it really you?” she whispered softly, but the girl standing in front of her flicked an ear backward and heard her. Sesshomaru had also heard what Kagome said and looked at the girls expectantly. Glancing over her shoulder, the girl again smiled at Kagome.
“It's about time you recognized us squirt! Hell, I'd thought you'd have caught our scent a few miles back, but obviously you haven't been using your nose,” she chuckled as Kagome shrieked, causing everyone in the vicinity to want to cover their ears, and lunged at the silver eyed female.
“Shadow, I haven't seen you in forever! I've gotten your letters, but they just aren't the same as having you visit….” Kagome trailed off as she panted for breath. Talking so fast had caused her to forget to breathe.
Smiling now as well, the sapphire eyed female practically ran over to her sister and Kagome, throwing her arms around the other two and laughing happily.
“Death Strike, how have you been? I haven't gotten a letter from you in ages?” Kagome was near breathless when she stepped away from her cousins. “Gosh, look at you; you've changed so much since the last time you visited! Wait, you were both human the last time we were together! How came you are both hanyous? Do you know why I'm a hanyou?”
Shadow put her hand over Kagome's mouth and chuckled. “Tomorrow we'll start answering your questions, ok? Right now it's late and we should get something to eat, possibly just kick back and spend some quality time together, no?”
Again InuYasha growled, “NO! How about answers now! Just who the hell do you think you are?”
Death Strike was about to retort, but Kagome spoke up first. “Oh InuYasha,” she said sweetly and InuYasha cringed, “SIT BOY!”
Shadow and Death Strike both laughed outright when InuYasha ate dirt. The sight also caused Sesshomaru and Koga to grin as InuYasha let out a string of curses. Shaking her head slightly, Kagome looped her arm around Shadow's and headed towards Kaeda's home, “Let's see about that food now,” she said as she led her cousin into the village, leaving the rest of the group to follow behind.
As she passed by the still subdued InuYasha, Death Strike paused to lean down and whisper in his ear, “Ya know, if you weren't such an ass, you wouldn't be that intimate with the ground.” She chuckled and followed after Kagome and Shadow.
InuYasha, still held down by the subduing spell, let out another string of curses as rest of the group walked away. Again he tried to pry himself off the ground, but to no avail. He felt something land gently on his head and suddenly his gold eyes met emerald.
“Damn bird!” he muttered. Faele pecked his ear gently in retaliation.
*You know, she has a point* Faele told him as she took to the air…leaving InuYasha still plastered to the ground. Tomorrow was going to be an interesting day indeed.

Author's Note: Hopefully this chapter was a little longer. Review, review, review! I find it hard to get motivated to keep writing if there isn't anyone reading this. I appreciate any reviews on the art for this story too. (Little side note: Shadow and most of my other characters are from the USA; however, yes, they do speak Japanese…..)
