Chapter 7 - The Shadow of Darkness
Sango was running. Running through an empty white room. Nothing existed in this room, it continued on for what seemed like eternity. Tears fell from her tightly closed eyes, fear had forced them shut... forced her to run. Her cries and whimpers echoed on forever through the pale oblivion. The object of her fear flowed quickly behind her like a pitch black curtain made of smoke and shadows. The blackness rose high up and took humanoid form from the waist up, still propelled by a shadowy mass. It reached out its arms as if longing to touch Sango’s warm flesh, to devour her in its shadow.
Sango could not resist, the feeling to look was too great. She glanced back over her shoulder to see the shadow. She had to gaze upon it, something was pulling her eyes. When she stared at its featureless face, she was frozen in her run. She did not flea anymore, she could not even look away.
Two red slits opened where eyes would normally be... everything went numb as millions of arms made of shadow pulled her into the never ending darkness...
Sango Screamed.
“Sango are you ok!” A voice yelled.
“Sango wake up!” Followed another.
“W-What’s wrong with her?” The voices started to be come more familiar as Sango opened her tear stained eyes slowly. That one could be recognized as Shippo.
Sango became fully alert and shot up-right from laying on her back, she gasped. She frantically looked around the room, taking in everything around her. Kagome, Miroku, Inuyasha, and Kai were holding on to her... *Sango’s memory jumped to the millions of arms pulling her into the shadow* ...She started to calm.
“I-I was dreaming...” She almost choked on the words because of her hyperventilating. Sweat pored down her face and chest making her feel cold. Sango shivered.
Kai moved closer and wrapped his arms around her as a temporary warm up. This earned a glance from Miroku, one that was hard to read fully.
Sango was surprised at first, her cheeks turned a bright crimson at Kai’s sudden attempt to warm her. She suddenly noticed he was dressed differently.
Kai was now in a grey gi that showed a lot of his chest, which was firmly cut. He had a long black sash wrapped around his waist, so long that the ties hung down to touch the floor while Kai kneeled before here. He also now had two pairs of layered, metal shoulder plates that curved to fit. The plates were connected in the front and back by a chain that hung in between them. A sword hung from his back; it was shaped like the transformed Tetsusaiga.
Kagome watched Kai put his arms around Sango with displeasure. She was not the jealous type but this action and Sango’s response burned at her emotions. Her fists clenched but she remained quiet.
Miroku stared hard at Kai holding on to Sango. Then when he could take no more he redirected his eyes. He could still feel them together, something was making it so he could almost feel everything Sango was feeling. The warmth of Kai’s body, and the strength in his arms. Miroku stood suddenly and walked silently out of the room, unable to take anymore. But nothing could get the feelings out of his mind.
Inuyasha sat with legs crossed and arms folded. He wasn’t looking at anything but the Chigatana, Kai’s new weapon. “I can’t believe that old bat made you a sword.” He spat while turning his head and closing his eyes from disbelief. “Seems almost anyone can pass that old man’s tests... Feh, not like I care, it’s only a pathetic copy of the Tetsusaiga anyway... And nowhere as powerful.”
Kai opened his eyes, which had closed while he rested his head on Sango’s shoulder. He slowly stood and stared at the wall in front of him. “This sword is no copy of your blade. This sword was forged from my very blood. And just as my blood flows through my veins, this sword is tied to my very body... I can feel it.” Kai turned to face Inuyasha, his eyes fixed on the half-dog.
Sango was coming back to her senses, she could think straight... But only barely. Her mind felt like it was on fire. Her mind burned with so many emotions. That dream...
“I think that we should go now.” Kai said suddenly, still holding Inuyasha’s gaze. “We must find out what is happening here. This Naraku you told me of... You say he has gone missing and a new evil has taken his place. But we know nothing of this new evil... We must find out all we can.”
Inuyasha matched Kai’s glare, “I’m all up for it. That way I can prove to you that no sword can match my Tetsusaiga.” A grin swept onto Inuyasha’s face, he was confident that no blade could ever match the power of the Tetsusaiga.
Shippo bounced up on Kagome’s shoulder and yawned, “What do think Kagome?”
Kagome was pleased to see that Kai was no longer holding onto Sango. Her mood improved. “Sure sounds great!” She giggled and joined Kai’s side.
Sango was still on the ground, her eyes were wide and glossy. The thoughts in her head swarmed her mind and some part of Sango snapped.... Sango stood quickly and stared adoringly at Kai, she walked up behind him and put her hand on his shoulder. “Let’s go then.” She smiled. Her eyes looked normal now. No one could tell that somewhere deep in Sango’s mind the shadows were spreading.
This new evil’s plan had already begun...

The group walked through a thick forest, hoping to find some scent or clue that would lead them in the right direction. They hadn’t even encountered a single demon. Miroku tailed them at a distance. His pace was slow and his head drooped slightly toward the ground. Somehow no one could notice his pain. Most of them were too stuck on their own mind sets to care.
Sango walked beside Kai with an emotionless face. Her features cold and blank.
Kagome walked on Kai’s opposite side and much closer than Sango. She stared at his face with a bright glow.
Inuyasha walked in front of the entire group, sniffing the air for any traces of evil. His mind was distracted, though. He could not focus. His mind was burning with jealousy.
Shippo stayed close to Kagome’s ankles as they marched down the trail. He did not look the least bit pleased with the trip so far. They had been walking for a while now.
Suddenly, Inuyasha’s nose twitched and caught the scent of a demon. “Hey, there’s something up ahead...” He said taking off into a sprint. Kai’s reaction was quick. He took off running after Inuyasha. His pace was slower than the half demon but he was, by no means, slow.
Kai shouted ahead to Inuyasha, “What is it you smell?”
“Sesshomaru...” Inuyasha growled.
Kai blinked twice, “Sesshomaru?”
The others looked up in surprise. Sango took Kirara and launched the two-tail into the air, “Kirara!” She shouted as the cat was consumed by flames and transformed into a powerful demon cat. Sango leaped up onto Kirara and Miroku helped Kagome up on the cat’s back, without trying to grope her.
Kirara took off into the air and followed Inuyasha. “Inuyasha!” Sango shouted. “If it’s Sesshomaru then he probably already knows we’re here.”
“Good... I can’t wait to get my hands on ‘em.” Inuyasha said, his ego boosting his confidence.
Miroku grabbed hold of Shippo, “Come. Let’s go.” The monk was not his normal self. Pain was tearing away at his insides. Crushing his mind.
...And making him more vulnerable to the Darkness.
