Chapter 6 - The journey for Chigatana
The wind howled. It’s powerful gusts swept the dust from the earth and lifted it, carrying it away. The sun was cast out by the thick, black clouds hovering calmly over the land. Night, you could say, had come early. All was darkened by the lack of Sun light, and the world now seemed much more frightening.
“This way, Master Kai.” Mioga bounced along a path, Kai was following him closely.
“So, this Totosai, he can truly make me a sword as powerful as Inuyasha’s?” Kai asked with great interest. Inuyasha’s sword had impressed him, it had power that Kai found very appealing.
Mioga responded with after a slight pause, “Well, not as strong as the Tetsusaiga, most likely, but strong none-the-less. You see Inuyasha’s fang went into the making of the Tetsusaiga after it was broken in battle. Before that it had been made with his father’s fang. The sword is legendary in it’s ability to smite one-hundred demons in a single swipe.”
“Yes, I noticed.” Kai said softly, his eyes met with the ground. He continued to walk forward, thinking about the Tetsusaiga’s power.

“We are here.” Mioga announced as he bounced up to a large skull-like cave surrounded by molten earth. The land was nothing but ash and fire, vast in it’s territory. Smoke rose from small, glowing cracks caused by the pressure of steam and fire. Perhaps that cave did not just resemble a skull...
Kai looked around the land, his features were unreadable. His face was void of emotion, he only stared into the infinite waste land without so much as a breath. He broke his silence, “This is the residence of Totosai?”
Mioga stopped bouncing and looked back to Kai. He attempted to read his face, bu it was impossible. “Why yes. He should be inside...” The flea motioned to the ‘cave’.
Kai turned to look. He walked slowly forward, determination welled up inside of him. “Master Totosai!” He shouted at the skull, “I am Kaimei, I come in need of your assistance.”
Silence followed. Nothing was said. No one emerged from the cave. Another gust of strong wind reminded the two of the danger lurking above. Mioga was the only one who was frightened. “Master Kai, uh, it seems Totsai in not home. Why don’t we go back and fine master Inuyasha?” the flea whimpered.
Kai didn’t take notice of his words, he continued to stare at the mouth of the cave, his eyes burning with determination and strive. He would not leave without a weapon as powerful as the Tetsusaiga. “Master Totosai! I call you out!” He shouted in a fierce voice.
A lanky old man’s head popped out of the cave, “Uh... What’s all the yelling about out here?”

“So you see Master Totosai, I am here to ask you to make me a sword with power that I will provide.” Kai and Mioga had entered the cave. Totosai sat cross-legged by a small fire. Kai did not sit, he stood firmly before the old man with hammer in hand. Mioga was propped on totosai’s shoulder, sitting identical to the man. “Like Inuyasha provided his fang, I shall also provide something for you to forge.”
Totsai starred blankly, like none of the words had made it to his higher brain function. “Uh... What’s that? I lost you at My name is Kai...” The old man scratched his head as if it would help him remember.
Kai growled, his fist clenched and rose, shaking, in threat. He quickly cooled himself and breathed deeply. “Will you make a sword or not, old man?” Kai snapped.
Totosai starred blankly, he was lost again. “Uh... I don’t see why I should.”
“Because I need a weapon in order to fight demons with Inuyasha.”
“From what Mioga tells me, you are very capable with your bare hands.”
Kai paused, he looked down at his hand. He could remember what it looked like soaked in blood. He remembered the warmth of the liquid trailing down his skin. Kai shook his head and looked back up to Totosai. “I-I know...” It was very clear to Kai he was not human anymore.
Mioga cut in at this point. In a whisper to Totosai, “Totosai, forge Kai a sword. He has powers that rival Inuyasha. He is worthy of your skill. I see him becoming very useful in the defeat of Naraku. Or maybe even this New Evil the rumors told of.”
Totosai looked from Mioga to Kai, he had that same dumbfounded look on his face. “If you say so Mioga. I will forge him a sword. But I will need an essence of his power.”
Kai grinned, he stepped forward and held out an arm. “I had been thinking about what I would supply...” Kai took hold of a small dagger and slit his arm. Blood seeped down from the wound. Kai held his hand over the wound, and a dark black energy poured out of his hand and into the wound. The blood darkened until it was completely black. “Take my blood. Infuse it into a blade.”
***
“Here you go. It’s finished.” Totosai said lazily. He handed Kai a large sword, it’s blade was curved like the Tetsusaiga, and it was about four feet long. The handle was tipped with curved blades, and black as night. “This, is the Chigatana.”
Kai slowly reached out and took hold of the handle with one hand. Totosai released it and Kai held the sword’s full weight horizontally with only one arm. “It is... Light.”
“Yep, the lightest I have ever made. Take good care of it.” Totosai turned and walked lazily back into his home.
Kai stared at the blade... His arm began to glow with his black energy. The sword took on the same glow. They were truly one. This sword belonged to him.
“Time we got back to the others, Master Kai.” Mioga hopped on Kai’s shoulder, he was still a little worried about something.
“Yes...” Kai agreed while still transfixed on his sword. It had a hold on him. It’s power was great. He could not wait to test it...
