Chapter 5 - Seeds of Evil

“Iron Reaver!” Inuyasha shouted as he slashed through the gut of a nearby demon. The demon grunted and clutched his stomach, trying to keep his intestines from spilling out. Blood sprayed on the ground, and a wet ‘flop’ signaled that the demon had not been successful.

Miroku was hacking demons with his staff. Right now his wind tunnel was a death trap due to Naraku’s poisonous insects hovering in the air, watching the battle take place down below.

Sango seemed to have snapped out of her trance set on by her lust for Kai. She swung her massive weapon at a group of demons. “Hiraikotau!” She cried as it spun toward it’s target and split everything in it’s path. The demons were pulverized by the weapon. When it’s task was complete it whirled back around and Sango caught it in one swift spinning motion.

A demon charged Kai, his massive arms outstretched toward the man. Kai spun around and glared at the demon, his golden eyes stared straight back into the demon’s crimson pair. Kai moved, faster than Agnosia ever has. He dashed at the demon with no weapon in hand. Kagome looked on in horror, she did not believe what Kai was doing.

“No, Kai!” She cried. The message never made it. Kai continued to charge.

Kai charged until he was twenty feet away from the large demon, and leaped into the air. He flew at the demon’s face, pulled back his arm so that his hand was by his head, and opened his palm with his fingers slightly bent into claws. He shot his arm forward, grabbed the demon’s face, and tightened his grip. The demon gasped seconds before a black energy surrounded Kai’s hand and gave his arm immeasurable strength. Kai pulled his arm back with great speed and power, the demon’s head came with it. Kai landed, the body of the demon still stood. The shear speed was to much for the laws of physics to yet apply.

Soon, time caught up and the demon’s body fell. Kai was standing holding the head down at his side, blood poured in black pools on the ground. He dropped the head and looked over to Kagome, his eyes were filled with fire. The sight of the woman calmed him, and his face softened. “So much for being human...” Kai knew now he wasn’t human at all. He was something else. A monster.

“Now’s not the time, we must keep fighting!” Miroku shouted over.

Kai shook his head and nodded to Miroku. “Yes, you are right.” He shot Kagome another glace, one filled with an emotion Kagome could not place. Kai joined the fighting again.

Inuyasha drew his Tetsusaiga, the Katana emerged from the sheathe with energy that transformed it into a mighty fang-like sword. “You demon’s are going down!” Inuyahsa raised the weapon, whirls of demonic winds surrounded the blade, “WIND SCAR!” He slashed the air and energy erupted from the blade. Energy that tore five slash marks through the ground and shot up waves of power that killed every demon in it’s path.

Still, there were more demons. Too many. Kai looked around at the scene. His face was determined, no fear touched him. “Is that the best weapon we have against them?” He shouted to everyone.

Everyone looked to Kai, they stared at the man blankly.

“Damn it, answer me!” Kai shouted glaring at Inuyasha. Inuyasha just matched his glare. Their gold eyes locked, each trying to pierce the others mind.

“No, my Wind Tunnel is... But we can’t use it while those insects are around.” Miroku answered Kai while pointing up at the said insects.

Kai looked up to the bugs, and thought for a moment. “Have you ever tried killing all of them and then using your Tunnel?” Kai’s question earned some more confused looks, but soon enough they caught on to his plan. Why hadn’t they ever thought of that?

Kai pointed his finger up to the sky like a fake handgun, and grabbed his wrist with his left hand. He aimed at a bug and did whatever it was that let him release his power. A black beam fired out of his finger with a phaser sound and fried one of the insects. Kai looked at his hand in interest, and pointed it to another bug. He fired again and another bug fell... Soon he was firing over and over, his speed increasing with every shot. Insect after insect went down.

Everyone stared at Kai with disbelief. Kagome and Sango soon changed their expression’s to smiles. He truly was fascinating...

“Now, Miroku!” Kai shouted as the last of Naraku’s insect sizzled and fell from the sky.

Miroku did not hesitate, he pulled his beads from his wrist, “Everyone stand back!” The vortex opened and everything in its path was pulled into the eternal nothingness of the void. It was Kai’s turn to look amazed; however, Kai was not amazed a all. He just looked on as serious as he once was, like this was normal to him.

The air was cleared and the demons were gone. Miroku closed his Wind Tunnel by wrapping his wrist in his sacred beads. Everyone breathed easier. Inuyasha sheathed his sword and still looked pissed. Kai had saved the day.

“Great job Kai.” Kagome ran and jumped into Kai’s arms, he happily welcomed her. Sango’s eyes narrowed at Kagome, she felt jealousy toward the girl. Why did she get every man she wanted? Because she was some reincarnation of a priestess? Sango lost everything and Kagome has everything. The woman turned her back to them and stormed off toward the village...

“Sango are you alright?” Miroku asked.

“I’m fine, Monk. Now leave me alone.” She snapped back.

“Are you....” Miroku stared but was cut off by Inuyasha

“Let her go, if she wants to pout let her. Don’t see what’s so wrong anyway. We won.” He then looks over to Kai and Kagome, who are still in each others arms. Inuyasha growled and exploded, “What do you think you are...”

“Sit, boy!” Kagome shouted in counter to his shouts. Inuyasha was pulled to the ground by a magic that Lady Kaede had placed on the necklace he wore.

“I don’t have to take this, I’m leaving.” Inuyasha managed to growl... He pushed himself up slowly and stormed off as well.

This left Miroku standing alone. He stared at Kai and Kagome for a while before turning and heading back to the village as well. “We should head back and see what Lady Kaede knows about these attacks.” He walks off calmly.

Kai looked down at Kagome and smiled. “Yes, we should go.” His voice was so soothing, that Kagome couldn’t help herself. He leaned up and placed her lips gently against Kai’s. The man responded by pulling Kagome closer and deepening the kiss. Kagome had never felt lips so soft.

Back at Kaede’s village, Kagome and the others sat in the priestess’ hut around a small fire. “I do not know anything of the attacks yee speak of. I do know that the are quite random and do not seem to have any reason behind them.” Kaede sat with her legs crossed and her arms folded inside her large sleeves.

“Well you’re a big help.” Inuyasha said bluntly. He too, was siting with his legs crossed and arms folded in his large sleeves.

“Inuyasha, you’re so rude.” Kagome snapped.

Kai stood in a corner leaning against the wall. He had said nothing this entire time. “Where did you get that sword, Inuyasha?” He finally spoke up.

Inuyasha looked back at him with a glare, “What’s it to ya’”

“I need a weapon. And your sword seems very powerful. I want to know where you obtained it.”

“Well, that’s none of your business.”

“Inuyasha how come you wont tell him that Totosai made the sword on your fathers request?” Shippo added in innocently. This, earned him a knock on the head from Inuyasha.

“Quiet, ya little runt.” Inuyasha shouted.

“Totosai? Hmm...” Kai sounded interested, “And where can I find this Totosai? I want to find him so that I can have him make me a sword...”

Kagome stood and walked closer to Kai, “Here, take Mioga, he should tell you everything you want to know. Right, Mioga?” Kagome giggled and a flee leaped out of her hair and on Kai’s shoulder.

“Hello master Kai. I can help you find Totosai. But I must warn you, he will not make a sword for anyone. And he’s quite a senile old man.” Mioga added.

“Thank you for your help...” Kai turned toward the exit of the hut. “I’m going now. I will return as soon as possible.” he began to walk out, and paused briefly, “Bye for now, Kagome... And Sango.” He was then gone.

At this, Sango raised her head and smiled brightly. He talked to her... There was a chance for her. All she would have to do is get in between Kagome and him and he would be hers. Yes, she deserved him...
