InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Hauntings ❯ The Understanding ( Chapter 4 )
Kagome walked through the hallway as usual, her feet making a soft thump with every step. Something was wrong…the lights were not flickering on and off…the lockers didn't show back a reflection of fear, and she had control over where she went. She began to walk faster, almost in a running pace, to where she knew she would find the door…she knew…that was the problem. She remembered walking down this hallway…she remembered what awaited her outside by the tree, she new what was supposed to happen…and it wasn't what was happening now. She skidded around the corner past a wet floor sign, slipping on the tile. She saw a janitor holding a mop yelling at her about running in the halls but she couldn't stop, no she wouldn't stop. She was worried…what was happening?
Bursting out of the heavy double doors she quickly shoved her hands in front of her face to avoid being blinded by the bright sun beating down on her. She let her eyes adjust before walking out onto the concrete path heading for the large tree in the center of the schoolyard.
A cool breeze blew on a warm summer day causing the branches to sway in a peaceful manner. Not a creak or groan or any other sound of protest to be heard. A young man and a slightly older woman sat on a blanket resting in the cool shade of the lovely green leaves. The woman was lying down in the young man's lap and the young man had his arms wrapped around her. He set his head on the woman's shoulders and took in the scent of her hair, "I do so much love you," he said lovingly into her ear.
She giggled and looked up at him with a shy smile, "why do you say it like that?" she asked, kissing him on the cheek.
"I like to say it like this because it's kind of worn out when you say it the other way" he replied with a warm smile. The young man turned to catch her lips in a kiss, only to find that the woman had disappeared.
"Kikyou? Kikyou?! Where are you Kikyou? Where did you go?! Don't leave me!!" the young man stood and shouted. He ran around the tree in search of his lost lover, he looked out into the schoolyard, worry evident in his eyes. The sky grew dark and cloudy, the leaves began to dry up and shrivel away, then…the rain.
Kagome watched as the boy ran down the path to the school, she wanted to reach out and hold him, but when she held out her arms, in hopes of catching him as he ran by, he passed right through her. She turned around and watched him run through the doors and into the main building, slowly she followed after.
He skidded around a corner, slipping on the same wet tile that Kagome had just moments before. Kagome was now running trying to keep up with his fast pace, but it was no use, obviously he was in better shape than her. He quickly pulled ahead and disappeared around another corner.
"How many turns can a locker hall have?" she panted as she turned to the right, only to find the hallway completely empty. Her feet couldn't stop quite as fast as she liked as she tripped and fell to the floor. She just laid there for a few moments, listening to her ragged breathing echo of the halls…but wait! That wasn't her breathing!
Slowly she picked herself up off the floor and made her way through the rows of classrooms, listening for the source of the sounds. The panting, the squeals, the sound of desks creaking under weight….and the unmistakable sound of tears hitting tile.
"The last room, why is it always the last room?" Kagome asked herself as she slowly pushed the door open. There, standing in front of the door with his back to her, was the young man. Kagome walked up and tried to place a hand on his shoulder, but she passed right through. He stood so stiffly, salty tears ran silently down his cheeks, his eyes fixed on something in the dark room. Kagome struggled to see what he was starring at, but all she saw was darkness.
Then the sounds came again, it was coming from over by the window, Kagome moved closer, hoping her eyes would adjust to the darkness. She stopped right before the sound, reaching her hand into the black air she hoped to find whatever was causing the noise. I flash of lightning sent reflections of light bouncing off the mirrors and picture frames on the walls for a moment the whole room lit up, but those few seconds was all it took for Kagome to see just where the breathing was coming from. The young woman who was outside with the boy was now unclothed and entangled in the arms of the janitor who had been mopping the halls when she arrived.
Their sweat covered bodies were locked in a seemingly impossible position, moving in rhythmic motions than changed with every flash of lightning. Kagome stumbled backward, falling through the young man as she fell to the floor. She stared up at him as he turned around, flinging open the door and racing down the hallway, and outside into the raging storm. Kagome Close at his heals.
The rain beat down painfully, as if every drop were a needle, Kagome shivered as she stood by the young man underneath the tree. The boy fell to his knees and sobbed, desperately she wanted to comfort him, but she new she wouldn't be able to. Lifting himself up out of the mud the boy noticed the tire swing tied to the tree, pulling out his knife he cut the tire from the rope and made himself a noose. Slowly he climbed to the top of the tree and slipped the noose around his neck, just for a moment he paused and looked up at the sky, anger evident in his amber orbs.
"Kikyou," he whispered, "I will never forgive you." The street lamp burned out and within the next flash of lighting his lifeless form could be seen hanging there, swaying back and forth ever so slightly.
Kagome just stared in shock, unable to remove her gaze from the swinging body. He had hung himself... For hours it seemed she had stared at his limp form, she just wouldn't budge, not even when the waters were up around her shoulders, when she knew she would be washed away. She didn't scream, she raised her hand up to try and touch the boy one last time… but again she failed. Closing her eyes she welcomed the murky waters as a new wave covered her face, submerging her entirely.
Suddenly there was a splash, she felt herself being pulled to the surface, coughing she emerged from the waters in the arms of the young man who had hung himself. She stared into his eyes as he set her sown on a tree branch, then down at the shadowy figure that was his dead body.
"Wha…how…I don-"
"Shhh", he interrupted. "I just didn't want you to wake up yet that's all, I would like to talk with you a while." He looked at Kagome's shivering body and sighed." But it looks like I'll have to wait another night." He grabbed Kagome's shoulders as she started to fade away, "I haven't been able to touch anything in so long," he slid a lock of wet hair that was clinging to her for head to the side of her cheek and leaned in closer to the speechless girl.
"You look so much like her," he whispered before pressing his lips to hers in a kiss that made the flood waters boil.

Kagome awoke slowly, she felt like she was screaming, but wasn't sure. She knew now what had happened, what had caused the young man to hang himself. Softly she placed her fingers to her lips, it still felt as if he had kissed her...but it was just a dream…wasn't it? She gazed around her newly painted room, for once she wanted to forget the dream…she had just made a new friend yesterday and she was supposed to meet her in the mall today. She walked downstairs to the kitchen to grab herself some of her cookies; hopefully the chocolaty goodness would distract her for a while. She pulled back the cookbook and grabbed the jar only to find that she had run out.
"This is going to be a long day…" she mumbled to herself as she shook the remaining crumbs into her palm.

Well, I'm sorry I'm so late, but…ITS ALL MY BROTHERS FAULT!!! Well, yes I'm going to be the deranged fangurl in this story so Inuyasha and Kagome will have plenty of Wovy dovy scenes that will make any sane person barf…no not really…no. I promises this isn't going to be sickeningly sweet, though Helium certainly must be eating sugar.
