“Hey.” Kagome said. “Wake up.” She nudged Sesshoumaru off her shoulders and twisted so Inuyasha’s head fell from her belly.
“Uunngh.” Inuyasha protested. Sesshoumaru remained silent as he shifted sluggishly on his side. Suddenly Kagome caught the strong scent of sake and she finally understood. Kagome struggled to crawl out of bed with Daiki squirming in one arm and two inu youkai pulling against her. Kagome let out a sigh of relief when she finally broke free. She dropped the barrier and began to head out the door.
“I’ll leave you boys to your hangover.” Kagome laughed before leaving to find some lunch.

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru stood in the study and watched Kagome run. Inuyasha wanted to go after her, but a strong hand caught him.
“Hey, let go!” Inuyasha growled.
“She is angry,” Sesshoumaru said trying to convince his brother. “There is no telling how she might react.” Sesshoumaru chuckled to himself as he pictured his brother in a pile of purified dust. But he felt inclined to stop him. He kicked himself for growing a conscience.
Inuyasha sagged a bit. Sesshoumaru sat on one the large pillows. He lifted a floor board to reveal a secret compartment. Inside were three bottles of the finest bottles of sake in the country. He was relieved to find the bottles untouched. He was never sure how, but Rin always found his secret stash. He smirked when he remembered instances where he would come home to find Rin and a number of staff stumbling around quite inebriated.
Inuyasha pulled Sesshoumaru from his thoughts. “What are you doing.”
“Thinking.” Sesshoumaru responded flatly as he took a swig of the expensive sake.
Inuyasha watched his Brother ‘think’, and he found that he had a lot to ‘think’ about also. Sesshoumaru seeing his brother’s expression, casually tossed one of the other bottles to him.
3 empty bottles later...
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru had stumbled into the garden and fell to the ground.
“You know I really hate you, Sesshoumaru.” Inuyasha slurred out.
“I hate you too, little Brother.” Sesshoumaru responded.
Inuyasha sat up and looked at the unusually large full moon. He was silent for a long moment. “Why?” He finally asked.
Sesshoumaru had lost his train of thought. “Why, what?”
“Why do we hate each other?” Inuyasha clarified. For some reason he really missed his Mother at that point.
Sesshoumaru sat up and seemed to ponder the question. “Because...” He immediately trailed off.
“Because, of Dad.” Inuyasha finished.
Sesshoumaru didn’t answer at first. “Yes.” He finally said.
“What was he like?”
“He was powerful.”
“I mean was he nice.”
Sesshoumaru thought before speaking. “He had a compassion, that I still don’t understand.” He older inu paused. “I knew it would be his downfall.”
“He was strong.” Inuyasha responded. “He died for something he loved. He wasn’t a coward.”
Sesshoumaru jerked his head to catch his Brother staring at the moon. At that moment Inuyasha seemed much wiser than he let on.
“Little Brother?” Sesshoumaru said.
“Yeah?”
“I forgive you.” Sesshoumaru said softly. Inuyasha looked at Sesshoumaru confused at first. As he noticed the genuine regret in his features, Inuyasha finally understood. For years, Sesshoumaru blamed Inuyasha for their Father’s death. Inuyasha assumed Sesshoumaru finally understood what their fallen father was feeling. Inuyasha reached out a clawed hand. Sesshoumaru accepted it. The two Brother’s made emends under the full moon.
They laid out on the grass in silence for a long time.
“I can smell her.” Inuyasha said softly.
“Her window is open.” Sesshoumaru sighed.
The Brothers were silent again. Inuyasha’s heart began pounding as he prepared for the race. Sesshoumaru was one step ahead of him. Inuyasha jumped up to see Sesshoumaru sprinting to Kagome’s open window.
“Hey get back here!” Inuyasha yelled before lunging after him. Sesshoumaru didn’t realize how quickly Inuyasha caught up until he tackled him to the ground and leapt off his back. Sesshoumaru recovered as quickly as he fell and snaked his arms around Inuyasha’s legs. He smashed his brother’s head in the dirt before making another dash to the window. Suddenly his hair was caught and he was tossed aside. Inuyasha laughed evilly as he began to scale the wall. Inuyasha felt the scruff of his haori being jerked back and suddenly he was kicking in the air. Sesshoumaru made a elaborate show of dropping his Brother to the ground. Inuyasha used the momentum to leap past Sesshoumaru and catch the window sill. Sesshoumaru tried to pull him out but Inuyasha held on for dear life. After a long struggle they both toppled in Kagome quarters together. They were about to fight again, like two little kids after the last cookie. When Kagome’s soft voice caught their ears.
“Inu...yasha?” Kagome’s voice was barely audible.
Inuyasha crossed his arms and chuckled with satisfaction. “Heh, see she wants me!” Inuyasha mocked. Sesshoumaru was about to growl when Kagome interrupted.
“Sesshou...maru?” Sesshoumaru smiled at released a pleased grunt.
“You were saying, Little Brother?” Inuyasha didn’t reply.
Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha watched her sleep, they took in her pleasing scent and watched the delectable rise and fall of her chest. They gasped at her next statement.
“Both...stay.” Kagome sighed. Inuyasha stepped forward and gently caressed Kagome’s creamy cheek.
He climbed in the bed and wrapped his arm around her waist. He buried his face into her stomach. Sesshoumaru stepped forward a ran his fingers through Kagome’s raven hair. He slipped into the bed and cradled her in his arms he rested his cheek against hers.
“Tell me Brother,” Sesshoumaru whispered just low enough for only Inuyasha to hear. “Why do you love her.”
Inuyasha looked up slowly. He gazed lovingly at the sleeping Miko. “Because.” Inuyasha smiled. “And you?”
Sesshoumaru closed his eyes. “Because.”
That was the most peaceful sleep they’ve ever had.

Kagome found herself strolling through Sesshoumaru’s garden. From his cold demeanor, the beauty and purity of the garden seems out of place. Kagome became lost in thought as she rested in a field of lilies. She let Daiki lay in the soft lush grass. He squirmed happily. Kagome became fixed on a lone lily, it was dying.
“Sango-chan, we’ll find him.” Kagome had her hand on the shoulder of the taijiya with sad eyes.
“I know Kagome-chan.” Sango was fidgeting with the velvety petals of the dying lily. “It’s just sometimes I wonder if death would be better for him.”
Kagome smiled. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” Kagome reassured. “And I will be there to help.”
“Arigato, Kagome-chan.”
Shippou joined Kagome and Daiki in the garden. Kagome barely acknowledged his presence at first.
“Shippou?” Kagome said softly. “Can you tell me about Sango.” Shippou shot his head up in shock.
“You remember Sango and Miroku!” He asked.
“Miroku?” Kagome wasn’t sure she had just been having visions of Sango.
“Yeah, Sango’s husband.” Shippou cleared his throat. “Well he’s her husband now.”
“Oh, whenever I think of her, she’s always so sad.” Kagome said quietly. “Is she still sad?”
Shippou shifted. “No, I wouldn’t think so.” Shippou stated. “When Naraku killed her Brother, Kohaku. Sesshoumaru brought him back. Then they went to rebuild the demon slayer’s village.” Shippou paused. “They wanted to join me and Inuyasha to find you. But he told them to go on with their lives. Inuyasha promised he would bring you back to them.”
Kagome looked up into the sky. “He did?”
“Yeah, Inuyasha maybe thick headed, but he’s still a big softy.” Shippou laughed.
“I bet.” Kagome replied. Suddenly there was a lot of yelling and Kagome heard the sound of glass shattering. Kagome and Shippou ran to the front of the castle to see Inuyasha on the ground rubbing his head and surrounded by glass. Kagome looked up to see Sesshoumaru standing in the broken window with narrowed eyes.
“Inuyasha! Are you alright?” Shippou ran to his companion.
Kagome giggled, she had an idea of what happened. “I guess Brothers don’t make good bed fellows.” Kagome could hear the squeaks of Daiki. He seemed to get the joke.
“Oi, don’t laugh at me woman!” Inuyasha was grumbling and cursing under his breath. “That Bastard should be down here not me.” Inuyasha yelled. “He was trying to put the moves on me!” Inuyasha cringed at the thought.
“Wow, I had no idea the two of you were so close.” Kagome teased.
“Shut up!” Inuyasha growled before stomping off.
One night he found himself camping in the woods. Ichiro knew he was coming close the Lord of the lands, there were a lot less human settlements. Ichiro was dosing off when he felt a strange surge of energy surround him. He never sensed youki before. But if he could, that was probably how it felt.
“Ichiro.” The voice was deep and raspy. Ichiro had to strain to understand it.
“Show yourself!” Ichiro demanded as he drew his sword.
“I have not come here to battle, Ichiro.” The voice said. “I have come to assist you.”
“I don’t need help from a mononoke.” Ichiro said through clenched teeth.
“That’s your choice. If you want your precious Miko to become the whore of demons, I will not assist you.” The voice chuckled.
“How dare you!” Ichiro yelled. “Show yourself!”
“I cannot, I am a prisoner.” The voice said growing serious. “Release me from my prison and I will make your desires a reality.”
“How do you know of my desires.” Ichiro said.
“Because I had them once.” The voice responded, it’s voice becoming weaker. “I once desired a miko, but she was blinded by a youkai. Much like your Kagome.”
“How do I know you’ll keep your word.”
“You don’t.”
“What are you called?”
“My name is Naraku.”
“Hey Inuyasha, maybe you should let Kagome make the choice.” Shippou said.
“I know that.” Inuyasha growled. He stared at the sacred jewel for a long time. Inuyasha remembered a time when even he desired it. But he dare not make a wish on it now. The jewel has caused to much pain already.
“Then what are you waiting for.” Shippou pressed on.
“I’ll tell her when I’m good and ready.”
“Kenta what’s wrong?” Rin asked sleepily.
“Those hanyous. I thought Sesshoumaru-sama hated hanyous.” Kenta said. “Why is he allowing them to stay here?”
“Sesshoumaru-sama is a tough guy, but he wouldn’t turn away Kagome’s son or his own Brother.” Kenta sat up.
“That’s another thing, isn’t this Kagome a miko?” Kenta said with a sound of confusion. “Why would she bear the child of a youkai.”
Rin sighed, “she didn’t bear the child herself.” Rin explained. “But she is his Mother.” Rin had the feeling she said to much.
“She didn’t birth the child.” Kenta seemed lost in thought at point. Rin sat up with him.
“Lets not worry about her children, Kenta, lets make our own.” Rin smiled coyly and Kenta took the hint.
“Kagome?” He said softly. “You appear to be anxious about something.”

“Do you always rely on brute strength.” She said.
“I have never experienced a time when words solved war.” Sesshoumaru responded.
“We aren’t enemies, and we aren’t at war.” Kagome sighed as she turned around to look into the sky. Sesshoumaru lowered his claws and stood besides the miko.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked calmly.
“I was thinking about why this had to happen to me.” Kagome closed her eyes and let the sun kiss her face. “Was I a bad person? I mean I hear all these good things for everyone, but why?”
Sesshoumaru saw the hurt in Kagome’s face he wasn’t sure how to answer, so he told her what he knew. “I don’t know, I believe fate is what we make it. But apparently there is another force that disagrees.”
Kagome smiled sadly, then laughed a little. “Can you go beat it up for me?” She joked.
Sesshoumaru laughed. “Anything for you.”
Inuyasha bounded up to Kagome who was now sitting.
“So is this how it’s going to be?” Kagome sighed.
“What are you talking about.” Inuyasha sat besides her.
“You and Sesshoumaru. Taking turns.” Kagome laid back in the grass with her hands folded on her stomach.
“Keh! I just don’t want to have to kill him, that’s all.” Inuyasha snorted as he cradled his head in his hands, besides Kagome. “He just won’t give up.”
“That makes both of you.” Kagome smiled. “Hey Inuyasha?”
“Huh?”
“Tell me about my village?”
Inuyasha turned on his side and held up his head with his hand. He stared at Kagome with determined eyes. “Are you sure, Kagome. It may be hard to believe.”
Kagome turned her head and returned Inuyasha’s gaze. “Really?” Kagome said. “Was it really that different from other villages?”
Inuyasha laughed. “More than you could possibly know.”
“Then I’ll wait.” Kagome sighed. “I already have enough to think about...but, maybe you could take me there someday.”
Inuyasha sighed sadly. “I don’t know Kagome. After you disappeared, I tried to go there. I thought it would be only right to tell your family what happened.” Inuyasha paused. “And I had hoped you found your way back.. But I found out they way to get there was closed off.”
Kagome wasn’t sure she understood, but she figured she would someday. “Oh, I see.” Kagome never took her eyes off Inuyasha’s. “I feel bad, I wonder if they loved me.”
Inuyasha brushed Kagome’s hair from her cheek. “They loved you more than anything.” Inuyasha smiled. Inuyasha caught a tear that fell from Kagome’s eye.
“Arigato, Inuyasha.”
Inuyasha laid back again. He reached into his haori and pulled out the shikon no tama. Kagome sat up and faced him. She stared at the jewel for a long time, without saying anything. Inuyasha wasn’t sure how to explain it, but he also knew this day was coming.
“Inuyasha?” Kagome finally said. “Is that...”
“It’s the Shikon no Tama.” Inuyasha said softly. “This is the reason why you’re here.”
“Eh?”
Inuyasha sighed. If Kagome took the jewel, it would be purified. But at what price. “You are the rightful owner of this jewel. You are the only person that can purify it’s evil aura.” Kagome reached out and touched the jewel. Inuyasha could feel the jewel change in his hand. It gave a healthy pink glow, and the purity flowed from it.
“Ah,” was all Kagome said before pulling the jewel completely out of Inuyasha’s hand. Kagome held the jewel close and closed her eyes.
“And when you wake, you will find that your life will change dramatically.” Kikyou’s voice came back to Kagome. Kagome looked at Inuyasha with a sadness he never saw before.
“My life will change now right?” Kagome said almost inaudible. “Because of this jewel?”
Inuyasha was afraid to answer at first. He knew she wouldn’t run away from her responsibility. He clenched his teeth angrily. Who said it had to be her responsibility. Inuyasha was half tempted to snatch it away and throw it far away. But he didn’t.
“Yeah,” was all he could say.

Ichiro found himself in the western lands. He felt like he was traveling for years. Luckily for him there were plenty of villages with youkai to kill. So he always found a warm bed. Kagome was staring at the sky waiting for Sayuri’s return. It’s only been two days but she was growing restless. Sesshoumaru walked up behind her.“Kagome?” He said softly. “You appear to be anxious about something.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Kagome didn’t mean to snap, but she was annoyed.

Inuyasha watched as Sesshoumaru and Kagome talked. He could challenge him now. But Inuyasha wanted to wait until Kagome had all her memories.
