“No, Sango-chan. I can’t let you do that. You have a different life now. And the Shikon no tama isn’t apart of it anymore.” Kagome felt her tears fall freely. “Please think of your village, your husband, and... your children.”
Sango knew she was defeated, just when she found her best friend and sister she had to once again say goodbye. “Kagome-chan, promise me.” Sango began. “Promise me you’ll come back safely.”
Kagome held her head high and covertly wiped away her tears before turning to face the former slayer. Kagome gave Sango a brilliant smile. “Of course Nee-chan!”
Miroku stepped forward and gave his little sister a roll of scrolls. “I don’t know how much these will help, your power greatly outweighs my own.” Kagome took the ofudas happily and hugged the lecherous monk she called brother.
“Thank you, Onii-sama.” Kagome reluctantly pulled away after adding, “Please take of her always.” Miroku nodded into her hair before allowing her to escape his arms. Kagome took Sango in a sweet and heartfelt embrace before finally turning to leave. Inuyasha lingered for a moment until Kagome was out of the village. The hanyou turned to the couple. Be careful you two. I don’t know if Naraku will come after you to get to her.
Miroku smiled softly and looked at his hand that once held the Kazanna. “Don’t worry about us, old friend. Like Kagome said, the Shikon no Tama isn’t apart of ours lives any longer. Naraku isn’t after us.” Miroku looked up sternly. “But Kagome is his target, please protect her.”
Inuyasha smiled. “Keh! Like you have to tell me.” His smiled softened. “Take care of each other.”
“We will,” Sango smiled. “Goodbye, Inuyasha.”
And then he was gone.
“Miroku, do you think we’ll ever see them again?” Sango asked through tears.
“I don’t know, my sweet wife. But... we can always hope.”
“Takumi.” Akira said as he marched ahead of the army.
“Hai, Akira no nii-chan?” Takumi said informally.
“If, if I were to die...” Akira began. Those very words made Takumi stop in his tracks. Akira turned and narrowed his eyes at the boy. Takumi swallowed hard and continued to walk besides him.
“If I were to die, Takumi.” Akira continued. “You must take my place until your niece is of age to rule my tribe, you know of which one I speak.”
Takumi was silent for a moment. “You won’t die, My Lord.” Takumi finally stated. “You would never leave Ane-ue. Emi needs you.”
“Yes, Emi needs the protection of her clan. But if I can’t be there to do it, then you will have to.” Akira frowned. “Kagome-sama told me of the evil that holds the power of the sacred jewel. I fear that many of us will not survive this battle.”
“Don’t say that, Nii-chan!” Takumi screamed. “Your stronger that any evil force out there!”
“Promise me, little Brother!” Akira snarled.
Takumi gasped at Akira’s anger and lower his head in shame. “Forgive me for questioning you, My Lord. I swear on my life I will protect the clan until your daughter can take over.”
Akira released the breath he was holding and smiled. He ruffled the laughing boy’s hair and continued on. Takumi followed in silence.
‘But that won’t have to be fulfilled, Nii-chan’ Takumi thought to himself. ‘We are going to win.’
“Hey, Kouga what’s up?” Kagome asked when she felt his eyes on her.
Kouga was silent for a moment. Inuyasha looked over and took the hint that Kouga wanted to ask Kagome something.
“Aniki, we should go on ahead and scout for danger.” Inuyasha said quietly.
“We have scouts for such tasks.” Sesshoumaru said without looking at him.
Inuyasha sighed and shrugged to Kouga. The wolf smiled and didn’t expect anything less from the taiyoukai
“If the wolf has something to say to my mate, he can say it when I’m present.” Sesshoumaru stated cooly. Kagome gasped and looked at Sesshoumaru puzzled, it seemed as if he was in his own quiet world but truthfully he was aware of everything around him. Kouga frowned and trotted off ahead of Kagome and her mates.
Kagome sighed and shook her head. “Lay down boy.” She said softly and walked ahead, ignoring the sound of snarls and treats for punishment coming from the Sesshoumaru shaped crater in the earth. Inuyasha smirked and walked ahead.
“Who would have thought anyone could get away with subduing him.” Inuyasha smiled.
“I don’t think even I can, Inuyasha.” Kagome sighed. “I shouldn’t over use the command on him, or you for that matter. Youkai’s prides are precious things.”
At her last statement she was in the air held against a strong chest. Kagome looked up to see Sesshoumaru glaring face.
Kouga and Inuyasha watched as the youkai and miko blur disappeared into the sky. “Are you going after them?” Kouga asked.
“Nah, he’ll protect her.” Inuyasha crossed his arms and walked ahead, hiding his doubtful eyes from the wolf demon.
“Ow! Watch it jerk!” Kagome growled. Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes.
“You are attempting to dominate this Sesshoumaru.” The taiyoukai said.
Kagome looked up in shock. “No! No, that’s not it at all.” Kagome stumbled over an apology. “I just thought...”
“You thought me to be rude to the wolf and attempted to reprimand me.” Sesshoumaru continued. He sat on his hunches and leaned forward. Kagome leaned back. Sesshoumaru sniffed in her direction. He smiled and began to crawl closer towards her.
“My strong woman should never have any amount of fear in her scent.” Sesshoumaru growled low and seductively. Kagome was confused at first then her eyes widened.
‘He wants me to dominate him?’ She thought to herself. Kagome smiled and pushed the youkai on his back. She straddled him and tangled her fingers in his hair before diving into his waiting kiss.
It was hours later when the heavily sated sleeping miko and taiyoukai were found.
Akira smiled at the thought of his lovely Emi. She would be waiting for him to return to her and their three children. Although his son is oldest, he behaves like his little sisters. So the three have been deemed the triples, for their similarities. Akira chuckled to himself at the thought of his youngest girl Kagome. Although she was born last she was the oldest in a sense. She always followed her father on his heels followed by Hari and lastly, Tou’nunga, his happy son. It was already determined that she would be the heir to the clan. The triplets resembled their father far more than their mother, who was mostly quiet and reserved. She was interested in fine silks and art and her two daughters were learning the ways of the warrior with their brother. Akira knew they would be strong and thrive even without him there. The pig youkai knew he wouldn’t come out of this alive, but he would stay by Kagome’s side always, no matter how much he would miss his family.
Akira had decided to take his children on their first foraging. The triplets were happy to see the world outside the oasis. They would watch with pouts as the adults and older children went out for fruits and vegetables and the rare red meat, the clan hardly ever ate meat it was only for special occasions. They happily skipped around their laughing father. The triplets knew that this would be the best time to have fun. Their father was always happy, and he always had time to play with them no matter what. It was their tutors and trainers who were always serious, and they couldn’t wait until the day was over so they could see Daddy.
Tou’nunga scolded Hari for playing with an injured falcon and Kagome was trying to protect it from Hari’s curious fingers. Akira smiled and plucked the bird from Kagome’s raised hands and knelt down. His triplets surrounded their father and watched in wonderment as their caring father ripped his silk kimono to wrap around the bird’s bleeding wing. He then placed some healing herbs upon the wing and smiled.
“There now, that should feel better.” Akira said softly.
“Will he live Father?” Hari asked.
“One could only hope my sweet. How about we find a safe place for it so it can feel better without any little fingers poking it.” Akira smiled pointedly at Hari who giggled and ran off to find a safe place followed by her protective siblings. After they were a good distance but still in viewing range of their Father, Akira spoke.
“Are you alright?” Akira asked the bird who was obviously a falcon youkai.
“I am fine, thank you. These hunters and the their new weapons are dangerous for these old wings.” The elder female bird sighed. “Thank you, Akira-sama for your kindness.”
“You know my name?” Akira asked, confused.
“Hai, I know many things.” The falcon seemed sad at the thought. “As payment for your kindness I will help live to see your children grow.”
“What do you mean?” Akira was shocked.
“Don’t accept the call when she needs you. You will not return home.” The falcon said softly.
Akira was growing angry. “Who will call me old bird.?”
“The woman you feel indebted to, the immortal miko. If you go to her, you will die Akira-sama.” The falcon stated.
“Father! We found a safe place for the pretty bird!” Kagome’s voice rang out.
The falcon smiled, “she is a sweet one, she will live up to the name given to her. And she will be the one who would miss you most.”
Akira said nothing and stood to follow his children. They found a old abandoned owl’s nest and Akira carefully placed the bird inside. Tou’nunga placed some berries and one of the dead mice his caught next to the bird.
“Be safe, bird.” The little boy said and he gently stroked her feathers. His sisters followed suit until their father spoke up.
“We are leaving.” He said sternly as he looked into the distance.
“Aww, but Fath-“ the twins began in unison, they knew he loved it when they were being cute.
“DO NOT ARGUE! NOW COME!” Akira snarled, his anger wasn’t supposed to be directed at his innocent children, he regretted his words the moment he said them. Soon he had three crying children on his hands. Akira sighed and knelt down besides them. He took all three into his arms and soothed their tears. “I’m sorry my triplets, I’m so sorry.” Akira held them for a long moment whispering soothing words and kissing away tears. Soon Hari was asleep and the other two was following suit. Carefully he picked up the reminding two as their eyes finally slid closed and prepared to leave.
“You are going to leave anyway, aren’t you?” The voice of the falcon stopped him. Akira didn’t turn around or didn’t speak he simply nodded.
The bird sighed and shook her head sadly. “Alright, it is your choice. But heed this old bird’s words. The music will be your death.”
“Nakori.” The young girl addressed the woman with a small voice. “He is the general of Kagome’s army.”
Akira furrowed his brow. “Nakori? The woman who wants to kill Kagome!” Akira rushed the woman who did not speak. He drew his sword and swung quickly only to have his sword snatched by Nakori’s chain whip. Akira cursed and swiped at her with his claws but she dodged each attack. It didn’t seem as if she was in the fight like he would have thought, she didn’t seem alive but she fought like she was. Akira had also heard that before Kagome the inu brother’s had mated with this woman but she didn’t smell of them. His thoughts were interrupted when Nakori used his own sword to slash at his middle. She moved even faster than himself and she hit the mark. Akira has thrown back and he held his bleeding wound. Fortunately it wasn’t serious and Akira knew he would heal by morning. The little girl watched the events unfold without a word. She merely toyed with a small flute in her tiny hands. Akira saw the flute and thought back to the old Falcon’s words.
The music will be your death.
Akira went for the little girl next but was blocked by Nakori. Deftly, Akira pulled his silver shield from his back and continued to charge. Just as Nakori was about to attack again, Akira held his shield out in front of him and completely disappeared. Nakori stopped although her blank expression did not change. The woman held up her chain and slowly started spinning it, soon the chain whirled in the air faster and faster. Then the sound of metal against metal was heard and Nakori flung Akira’s sword in the direction of the sound. But instead of hitting what she expected to be an invisible Akira the sword was embedded in a tree. Nakori looked down at Kurogawa then back up at the tree, but the sword was now gone. Nakori remained blanked faced and once again swung her whip. She did this for a long moment but this time, there wasn’t a sound to be heard. Then suddenly Kurogawa spoke.
“Nakori, he is...” But it was to late, the whipped suddenly stopped and fell from Nakori’s hands as she looked down on the sword that went right through her holding it’s handle and twisting was a fully visible Akira.
The pig youkai smiled. “Thought you could get the drop on me, eh? You don’t know with whom you toy with.” Nakori didn’t react to his words but merely back from the sword. Akira could hear the sharp blade slice her insides as she backed away and he looked at her in shock. The blade itself was always burning hot and it should have boiled her innards but she only stumbled slightly as she slowly reached down for her weapon. Akira was about to deal a finishing blow when the sound of a flute hit his ears. Akira was in shock by the sound and slowly turned to look at the little girl who was now playing the flute she had held so dearly. Akira dropped his sword ad tumbled back. He felt very weakened and fell to his knees, tears forming in his eyes. The sound was so sad and he felt as if his heart was breaking. The flute seemed to call out to his sorrowful soul and it seemed to be answering the call. Akira’s soul was being whisked away by the music. For a brief moment he thought of his children and how much he wanted to see them again. He thought of the last time he saw them and he promise to return with lots of gifts. He thought of Emi’s worried eyes and the kiss of reassurance he gave her, he thought of all this and he refused to sit back and just die. With as much strength as he could muster the mighty pig youkai thrushes his shield into the ground and a strong barrier surrounds him. It wasn’t strong enough to make him disappear but he could no longer heard the flute and the women could not hear his growls. He only needed the barrier up long enough to regain some of his strength, then the moment he drops it he will strike at the girl and kill her.
Akira didn’t hear the sounds of his little brother, Takumi calling for him. But Kurogawa did. She and Nakori looked at the boy who was looking at the scene before him. Akira, on his knees surrounded by a barrier, with blood flowing from a wound in his stomach. Kurogawa looked back at the youkai in the barrier his aura was surrounded by fear and he seemed to by yelling something at the boy.
Inside the barrier, Akira continually screamed for Takumi to run but the boy didn’t hear him. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw the little girl step towards the boy. Instinctively, Takumi backed away until he was pressed against a tree. Just as Kuro was about to lift the flute to her lips Akira’s shield was embedded into the tree just above Takumi’s head and a barrier now encased him. Kuro turned to see Akira breathing heavily and without the safety of his barrier. He was still to weak but he took slow steps toward them anyway. Kuro didn’t speak as she raised the flute to her lips and played again. And Takumi watched helplessly as Akira fell to his knees. Takumi slammed his fists against the barrier but was knocked back. The last thing that Takumi saw before he blacked out was Akira’s sad smile.
“You know, kid.” The hanyou began. “You should take him home. Back to his family.”
Takumi pulled away from Kagome and wiped his tears. Slowly he stood and held his head up. “No. Akira nii-chan would want me to stay and fight. We will return to our clan when the threat to Kagome-sama is destroyed. I saw what dangers are out there first hand. I won’t leave Kagome-sama.” Takumi’s voice was cracked but he spoke in his most adult voice.
Kagome stood and faced Takumi. “Takumi-kun. As the new leader of the Akira Clan I respect your wishes. But as a friend I beg of you not to leave Emi-chan wondering. Akira-sama would want Emi-chan to be put at ease and not be in constant fear of the fate of her mate. Please think of your sister.”
Takumi sighed. “I will take a few troops home with me. Nii-chan will be buried on the battlefield in which he died. That is the clan way.”
Akira was buried by night, candles illuminated his decent into the earth and the song of the clan was sung in his honor. Kagome held Daiki close as he reached for Akira’s cold body. The little hanyou cried when Akira didn’t hold him and toss him into the air. Kagome cried softly and wished she had never called him into battle. Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha stood on both sides of her, their hands giving reassuring squeezes to her shoulders. Kouga took the wailing baby from his tired mother’s arms and went back to camp. Throughout the ordeal Takumi remained silent. Before the dirt would cover him Takumi took Akira’s sword and placed it upon his chest. Akira’s shield was strapped against the boy’s back. As acting ruler, it was Takumi’s right to have Akira’s favored weapon until his heir could take over. Takumi would treasure it, even after his daughter is gifted with it. Takumi blamed himself for Akira’s death and would never forgive himself. But he had to remain strong for his clan. After an hour of the ceremonial burial Takumi decided it was time to go home.
Kagome saw him off. “Please be careful, Lord Takumi.” Kagome said as she bowed politely. Takumi already took to the role as leader and raised his hand to silence her.
“You needn’t worry, Kagome-sama.” Takumi smiled. “I will be safe, I will also return after giving word to the rest of the clan, in the meantime please entrust my soldiers to guard you well.” Takumi bowed with as much respect he could muster and mounted his horse. He nodded to Kagome and took off into the night followed by thirty of his troops. Kagome waved until he was out of sight. She wiped her tears and headed back to camp and her own family. She decided to make a detour and take the long way back to camp, this gave her a chance to think about things, mostly Akira. She was really going to miss the ever cheerful youkai lord. He wasn’t like anyone else she had ever met. He was smart, handsome, fair and loyal to his clan. He didn’t deserve to die. Kagome found a large boulder to rest and she sat in silence for a long time.
“Kagome?” A voice called out. Kagome turned and gave the voice’s owner a small smile.
“Kouga-kun, hello.”
“I left Daiki with your mates, are you alright?” Kouga sat besides her.
“I will be, thank you.” Kagome sighed. “He was a really great guy, Akira I mean. Never afraid of a good fight. But I feel like he died in vain. He was probably protecting the campsite from something. Trying to protect me, I don’t want anyone to die for me Kouga-kun. I don’t want to be the cause of all these deaths.” Kagome wiped yet another tear from her eyes. “It isn’t fair, he should have lived, even after he died I couldn’t save him. I couldn’t ask Sesshou-chan to bring him back. His soul was gone. We must have been to late when we found him.”
“Please don’t cry, Kagome. There was nothing to be done.” Kouga placed an innocent arm around her shoulders and held her sobbing form close. “Ssh, everything will be alright.”
Kouga reached inside his pelt and pulled out something that reflected the dim light of the waxing moon. “I have something here that I wanted to give to you when we became mates. But now I give it to you as a friend.”
Kagome looked down at the gift and gasped. It was a beautiful silver necklace with a large heart shaped ruby on the end surround by many tiny glittering diamonds.
“I got it when I visited the mainland about fifty years ago. They call it a heart, but it isn’t like any heart I’ve ever seen.” Kouga chuckled.
“It-It is a heart, it’s a symbol of love and purity.” Kagome explained.
“Well then it’s a suitable gift, you are pure and I do love you.” Kouga smiled as he secured it around her neck.
“Oh Kouga, thank you.” Kagome hugged the wolf tightly and put the necklace under her haori. “I’ll treasure it always.”
Kouga smiled happily. “Come on Kagome, lets head back before those mates of your start sniffing us out.”
“Yeah, lets go.” Kagome smiled as she let Kouga help her off the boulder. They headed back to camp talking happily.
“What the hell are you two doing!” Kagome cried out.
“He touched you Kagome, we can smell it.” Inuyasha bit out.
“This wolf knows the law. Touch another male’s mate and your life is forfeit.” Sesshoumaru said in a menacing cool tone. His grip tightened and Kouga helplessly clawed at the vise grip the taiyoukai had on his neck.
“Stop it! Please! Stop!” Kagome was shaking uncontrollably and tear flowed freely. “I didn’t know about this law. You don’t trust me! Please don’t kill him because of me! Please.” Kagome fell to her knees and began rocking she kept whispering words of regret and another person dying for her, and how Kouga was her best friend. Sesshoumaru picked up everything she said and slowly released his grip on the wolf. Kouga gasped for air and looked up at the taiyoukai and his brother.
“Forgive me, she was sad. I only wanted to help her.” Kouga sighed.
“Next time wolf, I will not be so lenient.” Sesshoumaru said as he joined Inuyasha and his mate who was still crying.
“Kagome don’t cry.” Inuyasha was holding her and sitting on the ground. He knew Sesshoumaru had joined them but Kagome did not. Her face was buried in Inuyasha chest.
“He killed him for me!” She wailed.
“No, I spared him for you.” Sesshoumaru said softly in her ear.
Kagome gasped and raised her head from Inuyasha’s chest. She looked into his eyes and slowly smiled. “Thank you, koibito.”
“Shit.” Inuyasha said softly and returned back to camp.
Kagome had expected as much, that’s why she called upon this mighty army, her powers had weakened. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru’s youki now coursed through her, slowly eating away at her purity. It wasn’t the fact that she was no longer a virgin maiden, that was irrelevant. It was the men that took that honor. Not one but two different youkai released within her on many occasions. And now while Kagome silently practiced with the swords that Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha gave her she had to fully concentrate on her power into one object. That was the sword, Yuuki. It was made from a hanyou fang, Inuyasha’s it allowed her to heal whomever the hot blade touched and release powerful electric energy caused by her own miko power and the blade’s own youki. Then there was Chikara, the blade made from a full youkai, Sesshoumaru. It had the same power as the Tessaiga. It could destroy one hundred demons with one strike and put up a powerful barrier. But it unfortunately cancelled out Kagome’s own miko energy when she held it. So while in one hand her miko energy spread freely the other hand the youki of Sesshoumaru entered her and killed some of her purity. While she practiced her sword swings, she carried on her back her bow and quiver of arrows. And in that quiver was Midoriko’s arrow, which had put up it’s own barrier against her and the youki that flowed around her. Kagome had wondered if she would ever be able to touch it again.
Kagome had her doubts but kept the arrow close nonetheless. She knew there would be a time when she would need it. Kagome felt Inuyasha before she saw him crashing through the trees with an angry scowl.
“What’s with the growl, puppy chow!” Kagome smiled.
“Naraku.” Inuyasha snarled. “He was watching you.”
“Watching me?” Kagome asked a bit taken back. Then suddenly she remembered the day Naraku “died”. Akago said Naraku wanted her as a mate, could that still be true?
“Kukuku...” The laugh echoed around them. “Kuro has informed me of your fears, my dear little miko. And I assure you, they are pointless. I wouldn’t defile myself with such vermin.”
Then it was that same mist that stole the brother’s hearts and nearly destroyed Miroku and Sango’s village. It was Nakori’s mist and it was so thick, no one could see they’re hands in front of they’re face. Then Kagome heard the sound rattle of a chain and a sharp whipping sound, Kagome could feel a tear in her eye when she heard flesh being ripped from bone and the groans of her dear soldiers.
“No! No, no, no, no.” Kagome cried. “Stop! PLEASE, STOP IT!!!” As Kagome’s anguished voice echoed across the mountains a brilliant pink light surrounded Kagome’s form and seemed to push away the mist until the sun shined again. Nakori, who was brutally attacking soldiers stopped in mid swing. Her looked up with a stoic face, astonishment invisible in her features. Kagome began to sway where she stood and the injured soldiers slowly began to heal. Nakori could feel purifying energy course through her from the inside out. Her features didn’t change as the energy began to eat away at her. The soul less demon charged towards the miko that stood in a trance. She was intercepted by Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru who didn’t hesitant to draw their swords the moment Nakori advanced upon their mate.
Nakori easily blocked and parried each attack the brother’s threw at her. As the brother’s remained transfixed on the merciless youkai in front of them hundreds of thousands of demons began to surround Kagome who still had yet to move. That was when her dear army came to her aide. Valiantly shielding Kagome with their lives and ignoring the fierce clawing and fangs tearing into their skin. With each deadly attack the soldiers that surrounded Kagome healed almost instantly, then they felt what seemed to be soft touches on their skin. They felt stronger and braver then ever. Shippou’s extraordinary fox fire even joined the battle, shielding Kagome in a protective shell, just as he did moments earlier for his mate and little brother. Kouga stood protectively in front of Kagome with his own sword drawn. He looked over his shoulder at the miko and gasped at what he saw. In her once chocolate eyes, he saw the clear blue sky, they were filled with lovely clouds and golden doves. In her eyes he saw the gods reaching out to him and smiling. Kouga remained transfixed in her eyes and didn’t see Naraku advancing towards them.
“Kagome?” A voice said softly.
Kagome smiled again and opened her eyes to see Kikyou and Midoriko as two separate entities standing before her.
“Mm,” Kagome sighed happily and closed her eyes again. “Can’t we just stay here forever, it’s so peaceful.”
Midoriko giggled. “But Kagome, you still have so many tears to shed.”
Kagome gasped and snapped open her eyes, only to see Naraku ripping out Kouga’s heart.
Wow, it has been awhile I know. But work, work and more work also training for yet more work. It can be hard at times to keep up but I have plans for this story and many more chapters to come. Betcha wondering what’s up with Nakori’s return, it seems the bitch won’t die. LOL. Oh and sorry about Akira and Kouga. R&R!!!

Laughter was heard throughout the vast forest as hundreds upon hundreds of youkai and human soldiers marched to the east. Under Akira’s rule, they have banded together for one cause, Kagome. Akira was stern and fun, a great leader to the masses. On his back he carried a large silver shield which he used for offensive as well as defensive tactics. Marching as his second in command was Takumi. Although still young, over the past few years, Takumi learned the skills of a warrior and had his own small army to command. Takumi loved the youkai as a brother and stood by his side through all the ups and downs over the years. Akira had a special shield emitting youkai energy made just for the boy and had his own room in the head house. They were inseparable.“Takumi.” Akira said as he marched ahead of the army.

Kouga and Daiki rode on horse back besides Kagome and her mates. Kouga felt guilt for his thoughts about the claimed woman. Although he still desired her, she was taken and any thoughts expressed aloud would cost him his head. The wolf knew that Inuyasha would hesitate because of Kagome feelings, but Sesshoumaru was an entirely different story although. Sesshoumaru’s instincts ran deeper than anything. Kouga smiled down on the miko who walked besides his horse.“Hey, Kouga what’s up?” Kagome asked when she felt his eyes on her.

Kagome was dropped unceremoniously from the youkai’s arms to her butt.“Ow!

Akira was patrolling the campsite alone. Takumi had insisted on joining but Akira knew that even though the boy was his little brother, he was still only human. Takumi needed proper rest to be alert in the morning. Akira on the other hand only slept maybe once a week or after a romp with his mate.Akira smiled at the thought of his lovely Emi.
******
Two months earlier...Akira had decided to take his children on their first foraging.
******
The next day Akira had a visit from Sayuri. Akira leaned against a tree and thought more of his family, just as he closed his eyes his acute hearing picked up the sound of soft footfalls. Immediately Akira stood at attention and was facing a woman and an young girl. The woman seemed distant and didn’t really seem to be looking at him but through him with her lifeless purple eyes. The young girl stared right at him but she was blind, her pupils were completely white and they seemed almost non existent.“Nakori.” The young girl addressed the woman with a small voice.
******
“NII-CHAN!” Takumi sat upright but fell back down on the soft futon he now laid in. The sun blinded his eyes and he knew it was the mid afternoon. Everything was silent around him. He was surrounded by his clan and they were all quiet. One of the soldiers looked at him with sympathetic eyes but quickly looked away. By Takumi’s side was Akira’s shield and sword with his own small shield leaning against the weapons. Takumi picked up the shield and held it close. The little boy cried against the shield for a long moment before feeling a gentle hand on his shoulder. He looked up face the eyes of a crying miko. There were old tears and new ones staining her flushed cheeks. She said nothing as she took the boy in her arms. The two basked in each other’s comfort before Inuyasha stepped up.“You know, kid.” The hanyou began.

Kouga had barely made it three feet into the campsite when he was snatched off the ground by his throat. In front of him were two sets of angry golden eyes. Sesshoumaru’s grip around his neck tightened but he didn’t say a word.“What the hell are you two doing!” Kagome cried out.

Naraku slowly walked through the brightly lit forest, his face stoic, his voice silent. Finally he caught sight of her. She and her army were closer to her “home” village now. She was holding two swords in each arm and swinging each in a perfect arch, under the watchful eye of the taiyoukai. Naraku smiled when he didn’t see the hanyou, the evil human/hanyou turned when he felt the blade begin to slice him down the middle. Inuyasha’s eyes widened when he realized it was only an demonic puppet. Inuyasha ground his teeth together in frustration. Naraku was back to the demon puppets now. And that had meant that the evil hanyou had regained most of his strength.“Shit.” Inuyasha said softly and returned back to camp.
******
Kagome sat in the warm sand and let the salt water splash between her toes. She smiled and closed her eyes to listen to the silent roar of the waves.“Kagome?” A voice said softly.
