“Kuro, what news have you brought me?” Naraku asked impatiently.
Kurogawa looked up at the dark red aura that addressed her. “The taiyoukai has left the village and headed to the mountains. The miko and hanyou remain in the village with the armies.”
“Summon, Nakori. Tell her to keep the three separate. I’m sure she would have no objections.” Naraku needed to get as strong as he once was. He couldn’t have the three doing the same. He needed to keep them apart. Hopefully, Nakori wouldn’t let him down a second time.
“Inuyasha? Why do I feel this way?” Kagome asked as they lay in the dark, she was shaking and clutching his chest. “I feel great when I’m with you. But I still feel empty.”
Inuyasha held his mate close and kissed the red mark. He didn’t touch Sesshoumaru’s mark for the taiyoukai would know and that would start another fight. It was only Sesshoumaru’s place to ease the burning and need of the blue mark.
“This has never happened before, Kagome. If both Sesshoumaru and I were to have left, you wouldn’t be able to take it.” Inuyasha explained. “We are connected, you need to be with us at all times.”
Kagome was still shaking with need, but she still managed to talk. “Oh, yes. Kouga helped me to understand. He told me ookami and inu are close to their mates. More so the females and males with strong emotional ties to them.” Kagome looked up. “Do you suppose Sesshoumaru feels anything now?”
Inuyasha just stared into her eyes. They were full of hope and he wouldn’t lie to her. No matter how much he still wanted her for himself. “Yes, I know my Brother is in pain also.”
Kagome didn’t seem pleased, but at the same time she was relieved. ‘At least I know he really does love me.’
“Inuyasha?” Kagome said after a long silence. Inuyasha had almost jumped beneath her resting head. He thought she had fallen asleep long ago.
“Yes?” Inuyasha answered through a sleepy voice.
“That woman, Nakori. Does she feel the way I feel now?” Kagome asked. She felt her hanyou grow stiff and his heart was racing in his chest. She could even detect the low growl he gave. “Are you alright Inuyasha?” Kagome asked in a soft voice.
“Why would you ask that?” Inuyasha asked after releasing a breath.
“I don’t know, she said you were mated. Does she have a mark?” Kagome was genuinely curious.
Inuyasha cleared his throat. “My mark is stronger than Sesshoumaru’s. I marked her after him, not like you where we marked you at the same time.”
“Is that why you have felt so guilty all this time?” Kagome asked innocently.
Inuyasha sucked in a sharp breath. “You know about that?”
“I don’t know how I know, I can feel it. I only feel it in you, not from Sesshoumaru. He and I must be thinking the same thing. You wouldn’t willingly mate with another woman. I know you. And once I found out that Naraku was behind all this I knew there was no need to discuss it further. I’m okay, Inuyasha. Really.” Kagome held on to the relaxing hanyou tighter. Her need to see Sesshoumaru heightened but she tried to ignore it. She had forgave the brothers long ago, she was their mate and no one else. Sesshoumaru had already knew this and now Inuyasha understood the same thing.
“Sesshoumaru?” Kagome’s voice warbled. “What happened to you!”
Inuyasha looked up to see his Brother dirty, battered and gasping. He looked down on Inuyasha with confusion, then softened. “The night of the new moon?” Sesshoumaru managed to smile. He drew his attention away from Inuyasha and back to the woman he had been longing for. Sesshoumaru had been miserable and when that woman came back, the taiyoukai had been caught off guard. He would never let anyone injure him willingly. Kagome brought him out of his reverie by throwing herself in his arms.
“Oh, Sesshoumaru! I can’t believe you’re here!” Kagome was crying into his chest. Sesshoumaru reached up and wrapped his arms around her protectively.
“Kagome, I have something for you.” Sesshoumaru whispered into her hair. Kagome didn’t want to let go but after whispers of assurance she reluctantly pulled away. That when she noticed it, two more swords were at her mate’s hip.
“These are yours, we will always protect you in spirit if not in reality.” Sesshoumaru pointedly looked at Inuyasha who looked away.
“You had these made for me?” Kagome asked as she pulled one of the swords from it’s sheath. She could tell it was the sword made from Inuyasha’s fang and the other was made from Sesshoumaru’s. Inuyasha’s fang glowed with the spiritual energy that flowed from Kagome’s hand. Kagome called the sword, Yuuki for courage and Sesshoumaru’s fang she called, Chikara for power. Kagome looked up and smiled at the youkai looking down on her with love in his eyes.
“You will begin your training with the swords in the morning.” Sesshoumaru stated.
“Thank you so much, Sesshoumaru.”
“So what the hell happened to you?” Inuyasha asked breaking the moment his brother and mate where sharing.
Sesshoumaru glared down on the human Inuyasha. “That woman, Nakori. She tried her illusion on me once more. This time it was ineffectual.” Sesshoumaru looked down on Kagome. “You won’t have to worry about her anymore. Although she was a worthy opponent.”
“You killed her?” Kagome asked softly.
“Not I, Naraku.”
Inuyasha stood quickly. “What!”
“It seemed he wasn’t himself, he killed her when she proclaimed that she would kill Kagome.” Sesshoumaru explained.
“I am in your debt, Totosai.” Sesshoumaru said.
“Oh, no need pup. Just get back to that lovely mate of yours.” Totosai waved off the gratitude and turned back to his work. Sesshoumaru turned and left without another word.
Sesshoumaru decided not to transport using his orb, he wanted to be strong and energetic when he saw his mate. Using his youkai cloud he soared high above the lands without a care, images of beautiful mikos dancing in his head. Suddenly a arrow flew just past his head and knocked him off course. It was an holy arrow but it’s power was strange, like an imitation of power. Sesshoumaru growled ad dropped from the sky to find his attacker standing before him. The taiyoukai blinked in disbelief. Kagome smiled maliciously.
“Ka-Kagome.” Sesshoumaru reached out to touch her but she jerked back.
“Stay away from me! You filthy beast.” His Kagome snarled.
Sesshoumaru blinked in confusion, then fervidly shook his head. He noticed it now, the mist and then the red hair and heated purple gaze. No, this wasn’t his Kagome. It was Nakori. He barely dodged her kusari fundo as it came speeding towards him. The weighted end grazed his cheek and the taiyoukai began enraged at the feeling of his own blood being drawn.
“You are mine alone, but if you refuse me there is no way I’ll allow a human bitch to have you!” Nakori sneered. She easily dodged his claws with cat like agility and blocked his poison whip with her own weapon.
“This Sesshoumaru would never stoop so low as to mate an minion of Naraku. I can smell him all over your foul body.” Sesshoumaru sneered.
“What do you believe me to be weak, Koishii.” Nakori then smiled. “I’ll prove my worth by killing your mate, Kagome.” With that declaration Nakori jumped into the sky intent on heading towards the village where Kagome resided. Sesshoumaru attempted to follow when a light shot past his head and headed strait for Nakori. The illusionist didn’t have time the move and the speeding light took her head. Before the body could hit the ground it turned to dust. Sesshoumaru watched as the still intact head landed softly in the waiting hand of Naraku. Sesshoumaru drew his sword and pointed it strait at the evil demon.
“You would kill your own incarnation, just as you killed Kagura.” Sesshoumaru growled out.
“Ah yes, you had feelings for her, didn’t you?” Naraku smiled. “Did you know that she loved you? Hm. The fool. You were the reason she sought freedom.” Naraku laughed heartily.
Sesshoumaru snarled and lunged for the evil demon. He watched calmly as Sesshoumaru came closer, sword ready.
“Do you now what happens when a hanyou ingests the Shikon no Tama?” Naraku said as Sesshoumaru jumped above him preparing to slice him in half. The inu youkai hadn’t time to stop as a tentacle went right through his armor and into a lung. Sesshoumaru gasped as Naraku drew him closer. “The hanyou gains more power that even an Taiyoukai.” Naraku smiled. “Even more powerful than an immortal priestess. But you won’t be around the see me peel the skin from Kagome’s body.” Sesshoumaru groaned in pain as he felt the poisonous miasma course it’s way through his body. He could feel his innards burn away and he couldn’t fight it. He was going to die, and he didn’t even get to see Kagome one last time.
Suddenly the tentacle seemed to be ripped from his body and Sesshoumaru plummeted to the ground. Sesshoumaru struggled to breath and his vision blurred. He looked up tiredly, God was he tired. He thought his saw two men standing besides him, or was it four. He couldn’t tell.
“Protect them, all of our women. Naraku wants to get rid of us, but he can’t rid himself of his own heart. He loves one of them, and will will try to kill Kagome to have her back. I ask you to protect her so you can protect them.” One of the dark men said. “We can’t help them, we have no control. Please ask her for my forgiveness, I know now that I will never be the same again.”
“Wha-what, who are you?” Sesshoumaru choked out.
The strange man sighed, he sounded sad and Sesshoumaru wished he could see his face. “Me? I’m just a memory.” Then the men were gone and Sesshoumaru’s world went black.
“When I awoke the miasma had dispersed from my body and I transported here immediately.” Sesshoumaru explained. He noticed that the sun was coming up and the human Inuyasha’s features were changing back to the hanyou he knew.
“And the men? What happened them?” Inuyasha who wasn’t effected by the change, asked.
“Ichiro? It was Ichiro, wasn’t it.?” Kagome sighed. “He saved you, for me.” Kagome felt her tears well in her eyes. “I have to save him now.”
Sesshoumaru, who rested his head in the miko’s lap looked up at her with concerned eyes. “Miko? What are your plans?”
“I know now that the only way the save Ichiro, is to kill Naraku.” Kagome to a deep breath as Kikyou and Midoriko’s voices replayed in her mind.
‘Sacrifices, huh?’ Kagome thought to herself. ‘Ichiro, I will save you.”
“Shippou-kun?” Sachiko called out. She knew the kitsune was always around, Kagome already told her of Shippou’s instincts and he would protect her with his life if necessary. Kagome warned Sachiko to be careful at all times. Sachiko knew that the elder miko would be hurt if she lost her eldest son for something completely avoidable.
Shippou reluctantly jumped from the trees and next to his young mate. “Are you well?” Shippou asked softly.
Sachiko sighed and shook her head, she sat on the mossy ground and beckoned him to join her. “Shippou, you don’t have to be so formal, I’m glad we are mated, and I’m excited about having a child. I hope we can be real friends and not just mates.”
“I hurt you, Sachiko-chan. How could you stand to even be around me? I took away your maiden innocence.” Shippou said without looking at her. Sachiko cupped the kitsune’s face in her hands and pulled him to face her.
“Shippou-otto-kun, I already forgave you. Now you must forgive yourself.” Sachiko almost pulled away until Shippo met her in a passionate kiss. Sachiko returned it happily and she knew everything would be alright in his arms.
“Kagome-sama!” The jovial youkai smiled. “What news do you have for me?”
“Akira-kun, we must leave the village. I can’t endanger my friends by staying here any longer. Naraku is stronger now, Sango and Miroku are at peace here. I don’t want their family to die because of me.” Kagome explained. “There are two other village east of here. It’s another part of my past. I expect Naraku to make a move before we reach at least one of them. Will you and your army join me?”
“Of course, Kagome-sama.” Akira smiled. “The men and I will follow you to the ends of the earth.”
“Thank you, Akira-kun.”

The voices had stopped. Ichiro and Onigumo reserved themselves within Naraku after the promise of expulsion from his body and this worldly plane. Naraku paced angrily. He only had one incarnation and she was proving to be aggravating with her need. Naraku already told Nakori of her fate, if she was unable to keep the brother’s under control. Now she was doomed to long for them. He would not allow her to kill Kagome, that was his right alone. One of Kiyoshi’s remaining shikigami appeared before the human turned demon. The girl reminded him of his dear Kanna. She was loyal to the end and Naraku kept her existence tied to the Sacred Jewel. Although the girl was silent and her few words soft, the difference in appearance from his former servant was staggering. The girl he opted to call Kurogawa, was just as her name implied, her hair was like a black river that swept over her shoulders. She had a black kimono that almost covered her feet if it wasn’t folded correctly. In her grey obi she carried a flute that had the same powers as Kanna’s mirror. Anyone who heard the melodious tones would have their souls captured within the instrument. Unlike Kanna though, the girl’s eyes were not black, they were non existent. The girl was blind but she could see perfectly the auras of others.“Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”

It’s been almost two weeks and Sesshoumaru had yet to return. Kagome was extremely anxious. Inuyasha could barely get any words in without her ripping off his clothes to fulfill her need. But in the end even after the satisfaction of being with her mate, she still longed for the other.“Inuyasha? Why do I feel this way?” Kagome asked as they lay in the dark, she was shaking and clutching his chest. “I feel great when I’m with you. But I still feel empty.”

The moon cycle was complete, and Sesshoumaru had yet to return. It was the night of the new moon and both Kagome and Inuyasha were restless. Inuyasha tried to comfort her and ignore his own anxiety from being surrounded by hundreds upon hundreds of demons and ruthless human armies. His senses were weakening with the approaching night and he stayed close to Kagome. He snuggled into her mark and tried to sleep. Then well after the transformation he heard Kagome gasp.“Sesshoumaru?” Kagome’s voice warbled. “What happened to you!”
Inuyasha looked up to see his Brother dirty, battered and gasping. He looked down on Inuyasha with confusion, then softened. “The night of the new moon?” Sesshoumaru managed to smile. After a violent request to forge the swords made from Inuyasha and his own fang, Sesshoumaru was finally leaving Totosai’s place with two swords at his hip. The old man promised the swords in one week but in actuality to took almost three. Totosai explained that it was difficult to forge the swords to withstand Kagome’s incredible miko energy.“I am in your debt, Totosai.” Sesshoumaru said.
“Oh, no need pup. Just get back to that lovely mate of yours.” Totosai waved off the gratitude and turned back to his work. Sesshoumaru turned and left without another word.

Shippou watched as Sachiko picked fresh fruit for herself. He kept his distance from her but kept an ever watchful eye on the young miko. Although he spoke with Rin and returned to Sachiko, his guilt had failed to dissipate. Kagome waited until her men were sleeping for an early nap. She found herself walking through the army of soldiers and faced Akira.
