Author Notes:
I really wish to apologize to all my readers that are out there who have fallen in love with this story that I have not updated in quite some time. As a writer it is my responsibility to finish what I started and I hate when others don't. I hope my old readers will be happy with this new update as well as any new readers I get to this story. I will do my best to start updating this fanfic until I am finished with it, I am not going to promise but I am going to do my very best. A few chapters ago I wrote that I hadn't experienced a lot of what I have put Kagome through but I can honestly say that I have lived through quite a bit of what I have put her through....it is what scared me away from this story, such is life; guess I should have been listening to my guardians who were warning me of my destiny by starting out with this story!!! Enough about me and on with the story, please enjoy!!

P.S. I am starting this story back in Modern Day Japan....where I left off in Chapter 34 (Ch.33 really but it is listed as Ch.34) of The Hidden Strength Within

Chapter 6:
Modern Japan:
Naxos and Kazuki continued to sit there on the floor, trying in vain to comfort each other after all the information that had been thrown at them. They did not notice the water nymph as she sat bowed before them, engulfed in her own sorrow and pain; after all she was the one who failed to protect her charge, their daughter. Hours had past and it was the ringing of the shrine's blessing bell, someone making a wish at the shrine, which finally pulled Kazuki from his thoughts. He looked around and noticed that the sun had begun to settle for the day as the sky outside the window showed an elegant display of pinks and purples spread beautifully in the sky. He rose from the floor and lifted Naxos up as well, turning he walked over to brighten up the dimly lit dining room. It was at this time that both he and Naxos realized that Egeria was still present and still awaiting their response of forgiveness or not.

Naxos placed a shaking hand on the water nymph's head as Kazuki continued to turn on the lights throughout the lower level of their house. "Egeria, I have no doubt you did everything within your power to protect and help Kagome. Everyone is given two paths to take in life, one is full of many hardships and the other has very few hardships. Although you are her guardian, you aren't allowed to make her take the path she doesn't want to take, it is solely her decision. It breaks my heart that she endured such troubles but unfortunately, that is the path she chose to take. I wish I could have been there for her as only a mother could be there for their child but she had good friends with her in my place. I know in my heart that she is alive and finally happy, where ever it is that she has decided to live out her days."

Egeria looked up to Naxos, 'I know where my Mistress got her loving and forgiving heart now. After all of my failures coming to light, she still forgives me of my faults and failures.'

Suddenly there was a knock on the door and Naxos excused herself to go answer it since Kazuki had exited the house already to close up the shrine for the day. He knew Naxos would forgive Egeria and he was OK with that, he remembered the water nymph from when he was a young pup, she was always kind to him and would even spoil him behind his parent's back, it helped that she could remain invisible to anyone she didn't want to see her! 'If she could have prevented harm to my daughter I know she would have, even at the cost of her life she would have tried.'

When Kazuki had finished locking up the shed he looked up at the sunset once more for the day, suddenly he began rubbing his eyes before searching the skies more frantically in every direction.

"Hey old man, what are you looking at? You look as if you saw a ghost or something." Inuyasha stated teasingly as he approached the old priest.

"I thought I saw Ah-Un flying through the sky just now. There, just above the sunset!"

Inuyasha looked at him puzzled then to the sky in the direction he was pointing and took a quick sniff. "I don't smell anything; I think you have grown senile with your many years trapped in your human form. Shouldn't you be transforming soon? I mean I don't remember you ever being trapped in your human form for so long in the past, weren't you normally only human for only ten years?"

The old man looked up to Inuyasha and stated, "Yes, normally ten years would be the most I would stay in my human form, but Naxos and I think that it is different this time because we used a spell to cancel it out back in 1910 when I was originally supposed to change. Then in 1986 the comet came and cancelled the spell, I don't think my body quite knows what to do at this point. I skipped two transformation periods and now I am what should have been the third. I was technically supposed to have changed in 1910-1920, 1960-1970 and again in 2010-2020, these were the time frames that I am supposed to have been in my human form. For every 100 years my human form is supposed to age by twenty years, but this last time I cheated and I think that I won't be changed back at this point until 2020, if I live that long that is. I'm not even sure my beast is still alive, it has been years since I last heard him Inuyasha!" Kazuki chuckled with a sad smile.

"Feh, that wolf in you is too stubborn to up and leave you. By the way, where's the kid? It's been hundreds of years and I've been brushing up on my video game skills!" Inuyasha didn't like the depressing aura he was feeling from Kazuki, which is why he changed the topic so drastically. After all these years of life he still doesn't quite know how to comfort anyone when they are sad. So he decided to change the subject to the squirt, that and he was ready to finally beat Souta in a game!

"Souta will be home tomorrow evening; he had an away soccer game in Nagoya. With him as there captain I don't see how they can lose. I heard that the other team just looks out for themselves, no each other like a good team should. Not like we have trained Souta and Kagome..." Inuyasha noticed the sadness return as Kazuki couldn't even finish his comment. Again his mind was on his daughter that he didn't even know if she was alive now or not.

"Come on Kazuki, there are some people here that want to catch up with you!" Inuyasha stated as he helped the old man into the house. Before entering though, the old priest looked to the west once more to see if he could spot what he believed was Ah-Un but sadly he shook his head of foolish old thoughts. 'Why would Ah-Un be flying around for anyone and everyone to see him. He hasn't been seen for three hundred years now.'

Feudal Era:
Virbius and Egeria were on top of the palace looking down on Kagome as she sat in the garden just outside of her bed chambers. They watched as she silently cried and then slowly calmed herself down as she sat under the cherry blossom tree.

"Did you hear her tell Lord Sesshoumaru that she loves him?" Virbius was still shocked but wanted to make sure he hadn't imagined it.

"Yes Virbius but I can also sense that she is closing off all hope to allow her love for him to progress further than it already has. Although I do wonder if it is still possible to get her back on track."

"That is exactly why I want to know why neither of you have been doing your job." A golden light brightly engulfed the two guardians, completely blinding them with the light. The Goddess Selene slowly materialized Virbius and Egeria realized that their Goddess had placed them in a barrier. "The both of you know how difficult a person's life can be when they don't continue the path they are destined to take, why would the two of you not try to get my granddaughter back on her destined path, was I wrong to appoint both of you as her guardians?"

Anger exploded inside of Egeria, Kagome was not alone these past seven months. She did not experience all the horror on her own; every beating, every time she was raped, every belittling thing that Kagome experience, Egeria also experienced through the bond she had with Kagome. When Kagome accidentally purified her pup, which she hadn't realized she was carrying, Egeria was the first to know exactly what had happened and it brought up her own painful memories. "How dare you."

"Excuse me. Did you say something Egeria?" Selene turned her full attention to glare at the seething water nymph.

"How dare YOU! YOU know full well that every being has two paths to choose from. Kagome chose to follow the other path; WE can’t make her change her mind. NO ONE is allowed to choose someone else's path for them. Do YOU honestly believe that I would have let her go down that path if I could have honestly stopped her? I know what it feels like to lose a pregnancy, do YOU honestly think I would want my Lady to feel that, much less experience that pain and feeling all over again myself?" Egeria was visually shaking, too much had happened and now she is being questioned about her actions. "HOW DARE YOU!"

Virbius was quickly at her side trying to comfort the very pissed off and emotionally wounded water nymph. He knew that she has never had a child or pregnancy herself but many humans have come to her during their pregnancies. Many had associated her with the guardianship of childbirth or even the Healing and Birth Goddess, and though she did help the Goddess Diana with such deeds, she took it upon herself to be by the side of anyone who prayed to her. She would become emotionally attached to the pregnancy, for every pain or happiness the pregnant woman would feel so would Egeria; even more so if the pregnancy or baby were lost at some point during the process. Virbius guessed that though she has never experienced the joys of childbirth first hand, mentally she has given birth to hundreds of thousands and has lost thousands at the same time.

"Goddess, please forgive her for her outburst. Though physically she has not experienced the loss of a child; actually she has, thousands of times to be exact. Please know that neither Egeria nor I would ever want or cause harm to Lady Kagome. If it was at all possible we would have told her exactly what to do and how to avoid all her hardships, but even you know that neither we nor you can do that."

Selene just stood there looking at Virbius and Egeria, she didn't say a word. Virbius noticed she was slowly beginning to vanish from his sight. 'I can only hope that her leaving is a positive sign and that she understands, even I know that you do not want to piss off a Goddess or God.'

The New World:
It was going on to the second evening that he had been with these wolves. ‘At least the three little ones are getting healthy again.’ He thought to himself as he stirred the soup that they would be consuming.

“Tiponya, I don’t understand why we are trusting this, Tala, to help us. Why are you allowing him to act as our Alpha? I am sick of this; he is not going to be my Alpha.” Yenene growled at her older pack sister.

Tiponya and Kaliska growled but Koga responded first, “I am not trying to be anyone’s Alpha. I am simply going to help you all get back to your human pack then I am leaving to find my mate. As for you, Yenene, feel free to leave, I know you ate while one younger than you starved. I also know you did nothing to stop the little ones from getting sick. I have to wonder Yenene, did you poison them intentionally?”

Yenene growled at what the Tala was insinuating. ‘How dare he.”

“Besides, if I was your Alpha, I would have already kicked you out of the clan.” Koga continued. “Tiponya is your Alpha; she is who you must answer to. I am here to train you all on how to survive, hunt, and find your human pack, that’s it.

Yenene looked to Tiponya for some sort of support but instead found her to still be glaring at her. “Feh, whatever. I don’t need you all; you all need me.” Yenene growled as she walked out of camp.

Kaliska whimpered, yeah she was mad at Yenene but she didn’t want her to leave; especially not on her own.
“Relax little one, she hasn’t gone far, she just needs her space right now is all. If I sense any trouble I will go get her. Now I need you three to make sure the three little ones drink all of this soup and I will go get something for the rest of us to eat. Tomorrow we should be able to go look for your human pack.”

Kagura couldn’t believe that Koga was actually helping the wolves. That he was actually putting them before his own personal wants and needs, she was just dumbfounded.

“See sister, I told you he was the perfect match for me.” Kanna whispered to her sister.

Kagura blanched, making the winds pick-up. “The month is not over just yet. I doubt he will pass the next test. He was just lucky this time is all.”
