Morning had come in the form of total darkness. It was 5:00am and the sky was pitch-black overhead. The silence had grown steadily quieter, until the only sound, was that of their feet against the cool forest floor.

 

They continued walking for another two hours

 

“OK Sango I give up.” Kagome fell the ground and undid her shoes.

 

“Kagome we gott---

 

“I know but my feet feel like they're on fire and I'm just so tired.”

 

“We really should keep moving.” Sango said as she sat down beside her friend. Secretly she was just as grateful for the rest.

 

“Hey Sango?”

 

“Yea?”

 

“Do you think they'll just go away if we give them this box.”

 

“Only in your dreams Kagome.”

 

“This is more like a nightmare than a dream.” Kagome mumbled.

 

“OK time to go!” Saongo said as she forced herself onto her feet.

 

Kagome stood up reluctantly. “All right fearless leader. Which way?”… `Might as well lighten things up. The Gods only know things could be worse.

 

“Well how about…she scanned the darkness `well…walking straight hasn't lead us into trouble so far so why not?' …This way she said successfully grabbing Kagome's hand and continuing their forward walk.

 

(Another hour had passed)

 

 

 

“Doesn't seem so bad anymore. Hu Kagome?”

 

“Nope, but it is really quiet.”

 

“Maybe a little `too' quiet.”

 

They both laughed at the horror movie comment.

 

“This is the part where the monster leaps out and grabs it's unsuspecting pray.”

 

Their laughing ended abruptly as both girls went silent. The last part Kagome had added didn't seem so funny.

 

They both stopped walking and listened to the quiet that seemed to go on forever.

 

They laughed nervously at their own foolishness

 

“Um…How about we don't make jokes like those any more. Deal?”

 

“Deal.” Kagome answered groping for Sango's hand.

 

They gave each other a firm shake.

 

“It should have been light at least a hour ago. Weird.” Sango stated

 

Kagome dipped her head to look at her watch. The small LSD light lit for a second. “It's like 6:30am.”

If Kagome would have looked a second longer she would have seen the blackness that slowly engulfed her watch's light.

“I heard stories about a forest like this. They say it's cursed.”

 

“SANGO! I thought we agreed NOT to scare each other!”

 

 

“I'm not! You must have head the stories too?”…Sango paused waiting for an answer. She could almost hear the confusion coming from her friend. “Kagome you live in a enclosed city. What do you do all day? Jesus!”… Kagome thought her face was glowing she was so embarrassed… “OK well it's like this; there were these men that went into the forest to get food for our city during the winter shortage. Well out of the people that went only two returned talking about “darkness that ate people”. Of course they were probably just suffering from a demon attack or the fever they had from being in the cold so long. But still.”

 

“Yea I know what you mean.” Kagome said rubbing her arm to keep the creepers' chill off.

 

Unintentionally they increased their walking speed. Neither noticed.

OK. I know my chapters are getting shorter, but trust me they will get longer by chapter 5.

And I would really like just one review. Just one. That's not asking for much. Is it??? I'll put another chapter on tonight. Bye !!!!! Next chap. Might be confusing .
