Running & Deciding

“Kagome do you feel that.”

“Feel what?”

“Like we're being watched.”

“Sango? You said no more scaring each other and there you go again. Well I'm not falling for it. Humph.”

“Sigh.”… `It's probably just the dark messing with my head.'

Half an hour later Sango felt Kagome grip on her hand tighten.

“What's up Kagome?”

“Nothing. Just have a weird feeling that's all.”

“Ha! I told you so.”

“That's nothing to be proud of. You idiot.” Kagome huffed.

`Hehe she has a point.' Sango Laughed to herself. `It would have been better if only I'd felt it. Then I could have shaken it off as me being silly.' She looked in every direction. `Sigh' It's futile just too dark to see anything.

“How about we sit down and rest for a minute it's probably just because we're tired and hungry.”

“Yea. I guess.” Kagome answered but Sango didn't hear any confidence in her voice.

They both sat down and took a short time out.

“I still can't shake the feeling that were being watched.” Sango barked out in frustration

“Well I also feel it now. So you're not the only one.” Kagome muttered in defeat. “Lets keep moving if there is someone out there it'll be harder for them if we keep a constant pace.”

“Um… Kagome?” Sango asked nervously

“Yea Sango?”

“Well… I have to pee.”

“Well then. What are you waiting for?”

“Well let's see?” Sango said as she place a finger to her lips and struck a wondering pose. `Oh yea she can't see me.'… “I kind of need my hand and some space would be nice Kagome.”

Kagome gave an embarrassed laugh. “Yea whoops.” Kagome heard Sango's footsteps trail away from her. “Sango don't go too far. O.K.”

“I'm not stupid Kagome.” Sango rolled her eyes. `Sometimes Kagome could be such a pain.' She gently bumped into a tree a second later. “Perfect.”

Kagome stood still waiting for her friend to finish her business. `Come on. Come on. Hurry Up. Come ON!' She was scared and couldn't take it any more. “Damn it Sango. Where are you?!”

“Be quiet Kagome. I'm not a boy. I can't just Whip it out, and go when I want to.”

Kagome Blushed at Sango's crude description of the male anatomy and decided to take her advice and be quiet.

“Much better.” She heard Sango say from a short distance away. (Sorry I never interrupt like this but I wonder where she found tissue. LOL maybe a banana leaf. I love being a guy.) “All right Kagome I need you to talk so I can find you.”

“Well if you wouldn't have walked so far off I wouldn't need to talk at all. Maybe just say your name once or twice.”

“That's it Kagome just keep ranting like that.“ Sango called from a distance.

“Bitch.” Kagome mumbled under her breath.

She could hear Sango getting closer. “Hurry u…” Kagome just knew… there was no other way to describe it she just knew something bad was going to happen in that instant.

“Crack!”

Kagome heard it come from her left. The rustle of leaves and branches snapping. She barley had time to jump back when a large tree slammed into the ground sending her flying backward and onto her butt. She stood up from her graceful fall calling Sango.

“Sango are you all right?”

“Just peachy Kagome. A damn tree nearly squashed me! But how are…“ Her sarcastic words were drowned out by the groaning of a tree about to break and it didn't sound like only one tree.

“CRACK! CRACK! GROAN… CRACK! CRACK! GROAN… SNAP!!!!”

“Ruuuuunnn!!!!!!” That was all Kagome could get out as she and Sango took off in opposite directions.

Kagome ran like her life depended on it. And well… in reality it did. She screamed as another tree came slamming down behind her. Her feet left the ground and she went flying from the close impact. She sat up hurriedly only to hear the groans of another tree in front of her. She turned her body and sprinted off to the left only to hear the snapping and rushing sound of a tree beginning its fall. So she went the only other available way to the right. Too bad she wasn't fast enough to avoid the tree behind her. The branches of the tree sent her flying once again through the air and into the ground, roughly sliding to a stop. She groaned as she struggled to gain her balance. Just as she regained her equilibrium she caught the sound of another tree starting to break. “Give me a break!” she yelled. She took of running again. `Something tells me that if I fall again she wouldn't make it back up.'

Sango heard Kagome's warning and did what any intelligent person would do. Started running. She'd been running for all of two minutes with trees crashing all around her.

`This is impossible trees don't just fall like this. Damn it! I feel like I'm running around a maze blind! All I can depend on are my ears, and I'm surprised I still haven't run into a tree. That should probably be impossible too. What the hell is going on?'

“Crash! SNAP!!! Groan…SNAP!!!”

“Damn!” She managed to stop just before another tree slammed into the ground in front of her. She took off running to the left where noises of falling trees weren't filling her ears.

`Someone's trying to kill us.'

She kept run but stopped a moment later when the trees in front of her started to break. She spun around but the sound was coming from all around her.

“Oh no.” It was a simple statement that covered her every emotion. She fell to her knees. The cracking sound of falling trees could be heard falling toward her.

`I don't want to die.'

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////
Kagome came to a sliding stop just before a tree slammed into her path. She darted to her left. She was running on fumes the only thing keeping her going was the adrenaline, and that was starting to wear off.

“Shit!”

She tripped over her own feet. “Ou-ffhh!” The breath was knocked out of her. She felt like she'd just did a belly flop from a high board. Every part of her body hurt. She heard the distinct sound of a falling tree. She clawed at the ground trying to move out the way.

`It's going to hit me.'

The tree crashed down just beside her, sending her rolling across the ground. She squeezed her eyes shut as she went rolling. She came to a stop seconds later. Only she couldn't move. She was tired. Too exhausted even open her eyes. She passed out right there savoring the darkness that came too sweep her away.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////

`I can't die I don't want to!' Sango's eye's flashed a bright red. `I've been blessed with the power of the Fire God. I can do this!' I'll just use every thing I have.

I WON'T DIE!” She let the power erupt from every part of her body. The energy lit the area in dark red light. Sango saw the trees make their decent in slow motion. Her vision was blurry but she watched as the trees moved to crush the life out of her.

`Guess I messed up.' The light faded leaving her alone in the darkness to be crush by the falling trees.

Kagome woke up hours later feeling like she'd been through her gym physical at the beginning of each year. (I always feel that way after slacking off all summer.) She kept her eyes closed as she tried to remember what happened.

“What the hell was I doing?”

A series of short memories flash before her eyes. She sat up quickly as she remembered everything that was happening. She regretted her actions. She felt dizzy from sitting up so fast and her arms hurt from being thrown across the ground. She tried to stand but her tired muscles refused her.

`I have to find Sango.' She opened her eyes.

“Damn sun…WAIT SUN?! Kagome hurriedly tried to blink away the pain that was assaulting her eyes. After being in total darkness for three days the pain was well worth it to see again.

The blurry landscape finally came into prospective.

“I… I made it out.”

She giggled as she looked around the area. It was absolutely breath taking. The clearing had a large beautiful cherry tree that was in full bloom and a twenty or thirty-foot waterfall that only made the area to look more like a sanctuary. The mist from the water made everything sparkle. It's a miniature paradise.

“Wait! How did I get here?!”

She looked around more carefully finally noticing that the clearing she was in was barricaded by darkness. `That's impossible! That's completely and totally impossible. What in the hell's going on?'

Kagome stood up on her unsteady legs and stumbled to where the light met the darkness. `If I didn't know any better I'd say this was a black wall…' slowly she reached toward the darkness. ` Maybe going in wouldn't be such a bad thing. I mean it was only a little dark and I can't be that far from…' she froze in place. “What am I doing? I must be losing it. Go back in there…phft…yea right.” She shook her head to clear away the fuzziness that had slowly wrapped around her mind.

“I need some water.” She made her way over to the waterfall.' Wow the water's so clear.' She withdrew a handful of water and splashed it on her face. “Mmmm. The waters' so cool.” She reached back in but this time only to fill her thirst.

With a content sigh she fell backwards on the grassy clearing. “This place is wonderful. I wonder how Sango would like it?”…'Yea Sango'… she jumped up. “SANGO!” `Oh my God! I completely forgot about her. I have to help her.' She rushed around in a panic until her eye's landed on the vines and foliage covering the sides of the waterfall.

`Perfect I'll just climb those and be able to see the entire forest from the top. If not I can always just keep yelling till she finds me.'

She leaped onto the fist set of vines she came into contact with.

“I'm coming Sango! Just hold on.” She'd barely made it five feet before the vines and other plant life gave way to her weight.

Kagome landed on her Behind With a loud thump.

`Why does it always have to be my butt?” She groaned as she stood up nursing her tender backside.

She glared back at the cliff ready to try again but something caught her eye… “Is that a cave? Wow!” She walked forward and gave the remaining foliage a hard tug efficiently removing the remaining plant-life from the cave entrance. Kagome smiled at her work and peered into the cave.

“AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” She tripped as she tried to back-peddle from the cave's entrance. She fell on her back and bumped her head on the ground, efficiently knocking her silly.

“Oh…My head. Shoot that really hurt”… `HOLD ON…Hand! Cave!' She looked back at the cave to see a hand out stretched toward her.

“I'm sorry I didn't know anybody live here. I got lost and I thought…”

`That's weird they haven't moved.'…

“Hello? I'm really am sorry you see my friend and I got lost and”…They still hadn't moved.

“Hey! Are you even listening to me? …HELLO!” `What a jerk.' She walked forward all past worries forgotten. `I'll teach that jerk a lesson in manors.' She slowed as she noticed the “Jerk” hadn't moved a single muscle. `I wonder if they're hurt.' She froze as she started to put two and two together. `Oh my God they're dead!…But if they were dead the body wouldn't be standing up. Unless… they were frozen alive!'

“O.K. calm down Kagome it's too hot for anybody to get froze alive.” Slowly the shock started to wear off.

“They can't be dead right? Right.” She took a few deep breaths to keep her control.

She smiled at her own brilliant reasoning. `So if they aren't dead that means I should see if they're O.K.'

(2 Minutes Later)

She laughed at her own cowardliness. “I have to walk forward to see.” She took a few slow steps forward. `Stop being silly `Kagome' who ever's in there obviously can't move.'

With that she started forward only to trip again.

“Damn it! What the…” she looked down only to see…”The jewelry box from earlier.”

“Wow I'd forgotten I had this…”she took a moment to think back… “I can't believe I had this the whole time I was running…” She came to a simple conclusion. “I should try-out for the football team when I get back.” She laughed at her own silliness.

`O.K. time to stop fooling around let's see our mystery person.' She walked forward slowly the light filled the cave entrance. She took one large step that brought everything into perspective.

“OH MY GOD…”
