Darkness falls to a promise

Kagome saw the metal claw raise into the air and bolted. She needed help and the only person she could think of was sitting in a clearing.

She could see the clearing, but felt the person behind her was closer. So she started screaming to him.

She could see him through the trees. `Why was he just sitting there?' Her thoughts were cut short when someone rammed into her back sending her rolling across the ground. She scrambled to get back up. But felt a foot roughly kick her in the ribs sending her back to the ground.

“You shouldn't have run away, it would have been less painful. Now where's the box??”

Kagome was in too much pain to answer the question. That kick to the ribs had really caused some damage. All she managed was a low groan.

`Why isn't Inuyasha helping me, wasn't he supposed to obey my every command? It's not like I want to order him around, but if he can help me-'… She was kicked again this time it wasn't as painful but it still hurt like hell.

“Now where's the box? Or do you like pain?” Kagome saw him lift his leg. “Wait! It's over there.” She yelled while pointing toward the cave.

He grabbed her by the hair and started dragging her to the cave.

Kagome scrambled to stay on her feet and move with him so it wouldn't hurt so much.

“Well it looks like there's surprises every where today.“

Kagome struggled to look up. Inuyasha was in the exact same position she'd left him in.

“And who are you?” Suikotsu asked.

Inuyasha didn't move a muscle.

“Are you stupid boy? I said come here.“ He tossed Kagome like a rag doll to the side and proceeded to get Inuyasha's attention.

He walked in front of Inuyasha. “Do you have a death wish?” He placed his claws against Inuyasha's cheek and slowly drew it back leaving a shallow cut upon his face. Inuyasha didn't move the whole time. He just stayed frozen there.

“Inuyasha what are you doing? Move!”

Kagome watched as Inuyasha leaped back, to land on the ground beside her. Then it hit her. `I have to give him a real order. But why didn't he move… `

(Flash)

“Don't move!”

(End)

Kagome flinched at the memory.

“So you are alive. I was starting to wonder if you were just a dead body.” He brought his claw up to his mouth and licked the blood that was slowly drying on the blades.

“Inuyasha, I want you to look at me.” His eyes snapped up to meet hers. `Okay, so it looks like my theory's right.'… “I want you to protect me. Do you under stand? I don't want anybody to hurt me. Answer me if you understand.”

“As you wish master.” Kagome flinched at the title. `It just doesn't feel right. But there'll be time to fix that later.`

`You must be joking. Him fighting me? He doesn't even possess a weapon. You stupid bitch, now where's the box?” Kagome looked toward the cave entrance where the box was laying.

“Well, looks like I wont have to torture you.” He started to walk toward the box.

Kagome's sixth sense finally decided to kick in. They weren't done with the box yet.

She sprinted to the box and making it there first and wrapped her arm securely around the box.

“Give me the box.” She took a step back. “You stupid bitch!” He raised his hand to strike her. Kagome closed her eye waiting for the feel of claws against her flesh. After about thirty seconds of feeling nothing she opened her eye's to see Inuyasha standing in front of her and the clawed man standing a few feet to the side.

“So it seem that you're fast. And here I was thinking you were brain dead.” He let out a pleased laugh. “Let's see how you do without a weapon against, Suikotsu of the Band of Seven.”

Inuyasha did even try to block the attack as Suikotsu raked his claws across his chest.

“Inuyasha what the hell are you doing? Fight back!” She thought about it for a second. `Can't he do anything himself?'… “ Fight to protect yourself and me. And try not to get yourself killed in the process.”

Suikotsu charged again. Making a diagonal slashing motion with his claws. To Kagome it looked like nothing but a blur.

Inuyasha leaned back and watched the claws fly by.

“You need a woman to tell you how to fight? Pathetic.” He charged again. Swinging his claws vertically and horizontally. Inuyasha dogged each swing.

`He's fast on his feet. Well lets see how he does without them.'

Inuyasha saw Suikotsu duck down and make a horizontal swipe at his legs. So he leaped up and fought back. Inuyasha gave a swift kick to the side of Suikotsu's head.

Suikotsu went sliding across the ground leaving a trench in his wake. Inuyasha landed lightly on one foot and gently brought down his other.

Kagome sat there stunned. `Amazing he moves so… so smoothly.'

“You're pretty good. But how long do you think you can stand up to me, Like that? You're loosing blood even as we speek. Eventually you'll tire and that's when I'll kill you.” He charged forward attacking left and right and Inuyasha blocked and dodged.

It went on like that for a few good minutes until Inuyasha landed a quick series of blows to Suikotsu's face and stomach. The final blow to the ferocious combo, was a nasty kick that sent Suikotsu into the ground once again.

Kagome couldn't believe it. `Shouldn't he have passed out by now?' She watch as he stood straight from his kick. `Amazing he doesn't even look tired—` Her train of though was interrupted when Inuyasha stumbled slightly.

She watched as Suikotsu shook his head clear and stood up. Obviously he missed the show of weakness.

`What's with this guy? Any normal human would be dead by now. Even most of those blessed children I've come into contact with would have keeled over by now. Damn I'm tired and he's still going strong. I need and advantage'. His eye's fell on Kagome. `Perfect.'

Inuyasha watch through slightly blurry eyes as Suikotsu got up and charged at him. He'd seen the look he'd given Kagome but wasn't sure what it meant.

Kagome watched through wide eyes as Suikotsu charged Inuyasha, but when he was half way there he turned and threw one of his metal claws at her. She watched in slow motion as the claws made their way toward her. It was happening so fast, she didn't have time to move or even to close her eyes for that matter. Kagome's vision became bright white just before the claw hit her. She heard a sickening thud as she fell backwards, only to see a pair of white wings.

`OMG! No…'

Inuyasha slowly fell to his knees.

Kagome slowly moved around to see Inuyasha from the front. What she saw only confirmed her fears. The claws were buried down to the hilt in his stomach. She watched as he fell forward. One hand stopped him from falling to the ground while the other held the claws that were lodged in his stomach.

“Well that was easier than I expected. Dying for a woman. Like I said before, pathetic. I must admit we don't get many challenges, so thank you, that was quite fun. My claw's like the blood better when it comes from a strong opponent.”

Kagome watched in horror as Inuyasha's breathing became ragged. Suikotsu walked forward and used his foot to kick Inuyasha onto his back. Kagome couldn't believe what she was witnessing. Suikotsu reached down and wrenched his metal claw from Inuyasha's stomach.

Inuyasha's ear-shattering scream echoed throughout the forest.

“Stop it, you're killing him!” Kagome didn't know what came over her. She just couldn't stand watching Inuyasha in so much pain.

Suikotsu gave her a sick smile. “I haven't forgotten about you. Maybe I could have a little fun before killing you.” He started walking toward her.

Kagome didn't have anywhere to run, she was already back up against the cave wall. “Get away f—“

Kagome felt the atmosphere change drastically. The wind had stop blowing and an eerie calm fell upon the whole area.

Suikotsu stopped his advance obviously feeling the change as well.

Kagome looked back at Inuyasha only to see him standing with his head down and arms at his side. His bangs completely covered the top half of his face.

“Looks like you still have a little bit of life left in you. Well if you're that eager to die I'll be more than happy to help you.”

Suikotsu took a few steps toward Inuyasha and froze when the wind picked up, wildly blowing Inuyasha's hair everywhere.

`What's going on? He's changing.'

Inuyasha's hair was slowly shifting from its normal silver state to an inky black. His wings were also blackening.

He slowly lifted his head to reveal his eyes.

Kagome couldn't help but gasp and take and involuntary step back. His eyes were completely black and the aurora of death floated around him.

“Why wont you just die?” Suikotsu charged Inuyasha obviously thinking he was still in pain from his last attack.

Inuyasha's face was expressionless as Suikotsu charged at him with his claws raised.

When he was about a foot away from Inuyasha, he leaped in the air and made a downward slashing motion with both his claws. Inuyasha finally decided to move. His hand came up and completely destroyed both metal claws in one smooth swing. Suikotsu was so stunned he dropped his guard. That's when Inuyasha's foot connected solidly with Suikotsu's face sending him through the air. Suikotsu landed on his feet clutching his face.

Inuyasha's facial expression never shifted. Kagome looked back at Suikotsu to see blood flowing freely from his nose.

“My claws… you broke my claws. I'll kill you!” He blindly charged at Inuyasha.

Kagome wasn't sure what happened next, but one second Suikotsu was attacking Inuyasha, and the next he was in the air being held by his neck.

“Kill me?” Inuyasha's voice was cold and empty. It was terrifying.

Suikotsu seemed to have lost all his will to fight and hung limply in Inuyasha's grasp. “You promised me death and yet I live. You lied to me. I don't like liars.” He slowly increased the pressure on Suikotsu's neck. “I've judged you. Your soul is mine.”

Crack!

Kagome heard the sickening crack of Suikotsu's neck and emptied her stomach on the ground beside her.

When she looked back up Inuyasha had streams of dark looking smoke absorbing into his body. She couldn't help but shiver as she watched him.

Inuyasha turned his head and looked directly at her. Seconds later Kagome's eyes locked with his. Her whole body felt heavy as he walked towards her. She wanted to run but her body was frozen. The whole time he walked towards her his eye's never left hers.

“Stand up.” He'd stopped directly in front of her.

Kagome couldn't move. His eyes were like bottomless pits that could see into her soul and hold it hostage.

He knelt down and gently griped her chin bringing her face within and inch of his.

“I shall judge you.”

Kagome's whole body stiffened as she remembered what had happened to the last person he judged.

“No…” It was a weak response but the best she could do.

“No?…. Have you done wrong?” He asked in a hollow voice.

`I don't know what to say. W-what if I answer wrong?' Due to Kagome's silence he decided for her.

“Then there's nothing to fear.”

He gently placed his forehead against hers. Kagome watched as her whole life passed in front of her eyes, all the way up to this moment.

“You're pure.” He said it like she'd done something wrong. “Well that doesn't matter. I'll just modify your soul. I'll never be alone again and you shall stay by my side forever.

“Inuyasha don't … “ She didn't want to die, not yet.

“It wont be painful, I promise… and I never break my promises.”

“N-no… Wake up, Inuyasha Please!” Kagome was staring into his eyes the entire time, but when she pleaded with him she felt a small change. Then he blinked and that when she felt it…

`I can move!' But she when looked back up, his eyes caught hers and she was helpless again.

“You're not going to leave me. No one's ever leaving me again!” His grip on her chin tightened painfully.

“I wont leave! Please Inuyasha!… I promise!!!!!!!!!!!!-” A huge gust of wind blew past both of them at Kagome's statement.
Kagome watched as Inuyasha's eyes turned back to their original bright gold state, while his hair turned back to its normal silver and black mix. Inuyasha's grip on her suddenly loosened as his eyes closed and he started to fall back.

`You promised…' It was a whisper on the wind form a whole world away, but Kagome heard it clearly, and for some reason it didn't really scare her.

Inuyasha fell onto his back obviously unconscious. His wings slowly changing back into their original white state.

“I promise Inuyasha.” She whispered aloud.
