InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Insidious Plot ❯ Reach in and BITE ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Reach In and Bite:
She lay entangled in her bed sheets; as the alarm clock yelped its annoying song, the girl recoiled deeper within her cotton cocoon. Slowly, getting steadily more aggravated, she reached a hand out to find the 'snooze' button. She allowed her eyes to drift close, 'just for a minute' her mind told her.
"KAGOME HIGARASHI! GET DOWN HERE OR YOU'LL BE LATE!" Kagome's eyes snapped open at the sound of her mothers voice calling through the house and through her room.
"All right I'm up!" Kagome pushed the blankets off and a soft chill settled on her skin. She looked at the time and flew off the bed; gathering scattered pieces of homework and school books. "Why didn't you tell me it was almost eight! I am going to be so late now!" she yelled angrily.
Quickly throwing on her green skirt and white sailor top (the school uniform) she left her room and descended the stairs. "Bye mom!" she called as she grabbed a piece of toast from the counter and ran out the door.
The streets were already crawling with hundreds of people. Business men on their way to the office, women out for a day of shopping, and school girls running to class (as was Kagome's case).
Kagome ran into her first period French class just as the school bell chimed. She smiled at having arrived in the nick of time, and took her seat in the front row. Taking out her note book she copied down the new vocabulary list that the class always received on Monday morning.
"Bonjour!" the teacher began excitedly.
"Bonjour, Madam Prophet" the class replied dully.
"Oh come on you can do better then that!"
"BONJOUR MADAM PROPHET" they screamed. The teacher clapped her hands together in delight.
"Tres bien. Now today we will be discussing the uses. . . " the teacher blabbed on but at this point Kagome had stopped paying attention. She tried to listen but found herself thinking of how boring this was. She woke up at six (or in some cases seven forty-five) every day, went to school, went to practice (she was on the dance team, tennis, and volleyball), then went home and did her homework. Everyday it was the same boring routine; then on the weekends, Friday night she did homework, Saturday she usually had a game or a competition, and Sunday's she helped her grandfather tend the shrine. Yet she still maintained somewhat of a social life. It dizzied her mind thinking about it; she just wanted a break from. . . everything.
The school bell rang loudly and Kagome snapped back to reality.
"Okay class, don't forget to do those worksheets!" Madam Prophet called at the students retreating backs.
Kagome grabbed her things and tried to run to her locker before block two. She was fiddling with the combination lock when she saw something odd out of the corner of her eye. For a second she passed this movement off as Hojo; who almost always stopped by her locker to talk to her about something.
"Hey can you tell me where Mr. Abagnale's history class is?" Kagome looked toward the boy, realizing it was indeed not Hojo. She looked at the boys gorgeous yellow eyes, they seemed to burn into her soul. She allowed her eyes to trace over his shoulder length, midnight black hair, and his muscular frame. (Kagome made a note of how flattering the school uniforms were on the boys, or at least this one).
"Umm. . . Abagnale? History?" Kagome asked, making sure she had the information correct.
"Hai." the boy smiled softly.
"Hai I do, I have that class right now actually. If you wait like two seconds I'll walk with you." Somehow Kagome managed to find her voice; though she normally couldn't speak in front of wicked hot guys.
"Okay thanks." Kagome shoved her French book into her locker, grabbed her History notebook and slammed her locker.
"Okay, its this way." Kagome led him down the hall, down the staircase and to the left where they proceeded down the hall coming to the third door on the left. "Its here, room seventeen." Kagome informed him.
"Great. Arigatou." Kagome just smiled at him and followed him into the class room.
"Good morning students. . . " *Another boring class* Kagome told herself.

"Hi Souta, how was school?" Kagome asked her littler brother as he stepped off the bus and they walked up the shrine together.
"It was fun. During art we painted our clay figures and Yuu broke his and it was funny." Souta said as he bounced up the steps.
"That is exciting." Kagome said, only mildly interested in this 'Yuu' character. She didn't have any practices today and she counted her lucky stars as she ran up to her room to catch up on some studying.
The rest of the day went by smoothly; she finished all her homework before dinner and after dinner she studied for a Geometry test she had the next day. About ten o'clock she threw back the covers and fell into her warm bed, sleep coming easily for her.
Feudal Japan (Five Hundred and Fifty some odd years earlier) ~*~
"Do you think me stupid?" the girl asked innocently.
"Feh!" the half-demon called from the tree above.
"I know you like me Inuyasha."
"Whatever Kikyou." he retorted.
"I suppose you are right, that was uncalled for. I guess I'll just sit here and eat this lovely oden all by myself." Kikyou smiled cutely and turned away from Inuyasha, sitting on a blanket and beginning to eat the soup she had brought from the village.
"Did you say-?"
"That is right. . . oden." Inuyasha jumped down off the branch and glared at Kikyou, she knew he loved oden (this was before Ramen mind you). "So you are hungry." she teased.
"Feh." Kikyou handed him a bowl and poured some of the soup in it.
"Eat up before it gets too cold." Kikyou commanded kindly.
"Um. . . thanks." Inuyasha hesitated briefly before he began scarfing down the food as though it would disappear if he didn't eat it in time.
Kikyou looked at Inuyasha as they ate. She couldn't stop staring at him, mesmerized by his smile and his bright amber eyes. He was hesitant to be friends with anyone but somehow he was beginning to trust her. Being the Priestess was not easy, sometimes she just wanted some time off. Being with Inuyasha was exactly what she was looking for; he was a half-demon which presented a problem but he was kind and had a lot of love in his heart. She even considered using the jewel so that he could be a human with her. If she could get him to fall in love with her, like she was in love with him, everything would work out fine. . . the tricky part was breaking his emotional blockade.
"Did you like it?" Kikyou asked, noticing he had finished it all. He didn't speak, he just nodded his head.
Inuyasha had been watching Kikyou watch him. Somehow they were both looking, yet neither seemed to see. They were too lost in each others eyes, it was wonderful really. Inuyasha had never quite been so happy with. . . anyone. He had no friends (most demons didn't), his father and mother were both dead and his brother hated him for being a half-breed. Kikyou was the only person who ever spoke to him like he wasn't a monster. But was he falling in love with her? He wondered that many times that he found himself stalking her in the village. She was such a lovely young girl, always helping out the children, and teaching her young sister, Kaede, everything there was to know. Yet, Kikyou still seemed too lonely. Guarding the Shikon no Tama took up so much of her life, that Inuyasha wondered if she felt as shunned as he did.
"Umm. . . Kikyou. . . " Inuyasha began.
"Hai Inuyasha?"
"I want to show you something." Inuyasha stood up and waited for Kikyou to follow him.
He led her to a small clearing in the wood where a tiny pond lay. There were birds hoping cheerfully around the small watering hole, and the sun cast small rays of light, which bounced off the surface of the water, causing mystical spirals to dance on the trunks of the nearby trees.
"Its beautiful." she said simply. He knew she would love it.
Inuyasha and Kikyou came back to this spot for many days, then the days turned to weeks, weeks to months; Kikyou loved spending time with Inuyasha, and he was beginning to warm up to the idea of having a friend. It was on one November day (not that they knew it was November, only that it was the time where the Harvest would soon die), when Kikyou asked Inuyasha that fateful question.
§¤*~ Back to the present ~*~
"Kagome!" Kagome stopped her dance routine and looked to her couch.
"Yes Ms. Heritage?" Kagome took a long gulp from her water bottle as she listened to her dance couch talk.
"I've been watching you and you seem distracted. Is everything all right at home?"
"Yes Ms. Heritage. Thank you for asking. I'm just. . . well"
"What is it dear?"
"I'm feeling a little bored right now. Not with the dance team, or tennis, or volleyball, just everything. I'll get over it. I just need next weeks vacation more then anything." Kagome smiled brightly and Ms. Heritage returned the gesture.
"Okay. Work on your timing; you were a beat behind everyone else."
"Yes Ms. Heritage." Kagome replied.
As Kagome went through the routine, for the hundredth time that day, she allowed her thoughts to drift to the boy in her History class, he was also in her English class, and Geometry class. *I wonder what his name is. * she thought. She finished off the routine by completing two three-hundred and sixty degree turns and a cart-wheel when she noticed Hojo staring at her.
"Hey Kagome."
"Hey Hojo." she smiled as she grabbed her water.
"I was wondering if you could help me with my English homework. You are just so smart." he said admiringly.
"Aww, thanks. Sure, come on over tomorrow night."
"Thanks. Want me to walk you home?" he asked kindly.
"No thanks, I have to stay late and talk to Ms. Heritage and then see if Mr. Meadica is still in the building; we have a game Friday night."
"I don't know how you manage all your sports and activities."
"I don't either sometimes." she laughed slightly, noticing Ms. Heritage entering the girls locker room she saw her exit. "I got to run, see ya later." with that she dashed off.
"Bye!"
As Kagome ran home after changing from dance practice, not really having to talk to either couch that she told Hojo she needed to see, she began walking home. Her bag was weighted down with her dance clothes and shoes, which made the ten block trip seem even longer. Kagome was singing to one of her favorite songs, Fukai Mori by DAI, when she felt a small tap on her shoulders.
"Hey." Kagome jumped as she saw the same startling yellow eyes that had found there way to her the day before.
"Hey," Kagome responded.
"Want me to carry that? It looks heavy."
"Oh, that is nice of you but I'm okay thank you for offering."
"Sure." he walked beside her for a few blocks. At first Kagome thought he might have lived this way, but as time went on and he continued silently following her, she began to get a little creeped out.
"Do you live around here?"
"No, I just saw you and thought you might like someone to walk with."
"Oh, thanks again." she couldn't keep herself from smiling at the boys cuteness.
Finally arriving at the shrine Kagome turned and looked to her 'stalker'. "Well thank-" she looked around but he was no where in sight. "Weird."
As Kagome drifted to sleep she began thinking of the mysterious boy. *You are so sweet. . . wait a second. . . what is your name?*

"Kagome, I think Byou fell down into the well-house." Souta looked with big puppy dog eyes at his sister.
"So, go get him; I'm going to be late for school." Kagome said as she began running off again.
"But its dark. Please." he said. Kagome sighed heavily and walked into the well-house.
"Byou. . . tk tk tk. . . Byou. . . come here boy. . . " Kagome called. A rattling came from the well itself and she jumped back slightly.
Her fluffy cat walked out from beside the well and Kagome picked him up gently. "Found him!" she called. The well continued to rattle however. Soon it opened up and, what appeared to be, a centipede lady came up from within. Kagome dropped her cat as the centipede lady grabbed her around her waist and dragged her into the dark abyss that was the well.
Kagome struggled to get away, she screamed and kicked, nothing worked. She held out her hand and screamed and a pink light shot from her, like magic. Immediately she was released, and collapsed to the ground. After being passed out for a few minutes she climbed out of the well, wondering why they didn't have a ladder in the well, and into the sunshine. *Sunshine?* she stood up and looked around.
"Where am I? This isn't my house." she said out loud. "Where am I? Okay, okay calm down. . . breathe. . . just breathe. . . Ohh, where am I?" she looked around for anything that might help her out.
"Are you all right Miss?" Kagome turned around to see a tall black haired girl staring at her. She had similar features to Kagome, and Kagome had to look twice to see that it wasn't a mirror.
"I, umm. . . don't know where I am." she said sheepishly.
"Oh fear not, come with me to the village. My name is Kikyou, what is yours?" Kikyou held out her hand to Kagome, like a mother would to a frightened child.
"My name is Kagome Higarashi, I am fifteen and attend Takahashi High School." Kagome rambled off.
"Nice to meet you." Kikyou replied, not really understanding much of what the girl said.
"Oi! Kikyou what are you doing?" a silver haired boy jumped across a few trees and then down to the ground to stand beside Kikyou.
"Oh Kami. . . are those real?" Kagome's smile brightened, temporarily forgetting she was lost, she reached up and touched Inuyasha's triangular dog ears, gently rubbing them between her fingers.
"Hey get off you stupid wench.?" Inuyasha said with a hint of anger.
"Gomen." Kagome pulled away her hands and looked around shyly.
"Feh."
"This is Miss Higarashi, at least I assume she is a Miss; I see no signs otherwise, she is lost Inuyasha." Kikyou interjected.
"So?"
"So I can't just let her be lost in the woods, what if that nasty wolf pack shows up again to raid the village?" Kikyou stated severely.
"Feh. . . let her deal with them. You wanted to talk to me about something."
"I can't let her deal with them. We have to at least get her back to the village."
"Feh no, let her take care of herself."
"Okay, since both of you are talking about me like I'm not here, I'm going to go find my own way home. Nice meeting you Kikyou, and you Yash." Kagome smiled half-heartedly and walked away from the bickering pair.
"It's Inuyasha wench!"
"Inuyasha!" Kikyou reprimanded, "I'm sorry Kagome please at least allow me to help you back to the village." Kikyou offered.
"Don't call me a wench!" she yelled. "Thank you for your hospitality Kikyou. Good bye Inuyasha!" with that Kagome stormed away leaving Kikyou and Inuyasha looking after her perplexed.
"I'll find my own way back to the 'village' stupid. . . bleep, bleep. . ." Kagome muttered as she walked through the woods. She kicked at the ground and watched blades of grass break at her touch. Kagome was looking down and didn't notice a tall black-haired boy standing feet from her. . . inches from her. . .
CRASH!
"Oh Kami, I'm sorry." Kagome said as she stood up, trying to see if whatever she hit was okay.
"Watch where you are going you-" the person stopped talking and looked Kagome over, "gorgeous woman." he finished.
"Eh?" Kagome looked around to see if he meant someone else.
"My name is Kouga. What is yours?"
"My name is Kagome." she replied.
"Lovely to meet you beautiful." he picked up her hand and kissed it softly.
"Umm. . . hai. . . you too."
"You smell of the mutt. Are you friends with Inuyasha? Or foe?"
"Inuyasha? Please! I just met him and I already hate him." she replied angrily.
"Wise choice. Come with me. I'll take you to my pack." he turned and prepared to run with her back, away from the village.
"Umm. . . Gomen no. I really have to get back to the village. I'll take a rain-check." Kagome tried to pull away.
"It hasn't rained in many nights; would you like to wait till it rains?'
"Hai, I would. So meet me at the village in say twenty years? Great bye!" Kagome seemed to have confused him as she ran off toward the village. Finally getting there she ran into the nearest building; trying to hide from this Kouga fellow. *Okay, I wanna go home now. Please wake up, please wake up, please wake up*
§¤*~ Meanwhile -
"You could be a little nicer Inuyasha." Kikyou stated in a not-so angry tone.
"Hai, well. . . Feh!"
"You are such a baby."
"You love me." he smiled coyly.
"Do not." Kikyou turned away from him, hiding the smile on her lips.
"Yes you do." he walked around her and faced her. He saw the smile on her lips and a smile crossed his own.
"Okay so I do. What are you going to do about it?"
"Well. . . " with that he leaned down and brought his lips to hers. The kiss was unmoving, chaste and impassionate; but it was the only kiss of their time. (The French hadn't quite made it to Japan yet).
"Come on, I wanna talk to you." Kikyou gently grabbed Inuyasha's hand and tried to pull him toward a predefined location; Inuyasha willingly followed.
§¤*~
Kagome kept a lookout for Kouga for some time. When she was sure he had given up she left the building, which seemed to be someone's house but the occupant was not there. Kagome walked back toward the woods, since the village scared her even more and at least being near the well would help. She walked through the woods, realizing after a few minutes she was very deep within the woods and had no idea where she was going. She heard voices and walked toward them.
"Inuyasha, I can allow you to use the Shikon no Tama to become a human and, well," she felt slightly awkward and blushed, "we can be together."
"Kikyou," he thought being with Kikyou would be the happiest thing in his life; he had never had anyone to. . . love. . . "Could you do that?"
"Hai, meet me in two days Inuyasha; at this spot." Kikyou kissed his cheek and stood up "I have to get back to the village. I'll see you in two days." Inuyasha nodded numbly.
"I always wanted the sacred jewel to become a full demon. . . but being a human means I could be with Kikyou. . . is that what I truly want?" he asked out loud. "Of course it is. . . I don't want to be alone." he replied to himself.
Kagome watched him with fascination. She was pretty sure she had seen him somewhere before, but she couldn't figure out where. She had never known anyone with triangular dog ears, but his eyes were familiar. That strong amber.
"What are you doing wench?" Inuyasha asked when he stood and noticed Kagome staring at him.
"Oh, gomen, and don't call me wench, you baka!" she replied angrily and stormed away.
"Feh!" with that he jumped up on to a nearby branch and quickly jumped from tree to tree and out of sight.
Oooh blah! This story is going to be short I realize. . . oh well it will keep me on track of The Space Time Continuum and my 'new story' which still doesn't have a title. . . haha hai, busy busy. . . ooh yeah and that one-shot I've been writing for like ever (Reincarnations). . . *Sigh* oh well blah blah. . . have a lovely day ^_^ I love you all!!!
