I took a deep breath, inhaling the smell of the outside. These were times I enjoyed at my age. When I was younger, I never really noticed the little things in life, but when you know that the time to leave is soon, you hang onto the moments because there is nothing really left.
Kagome hummed a tune softly as she pushed my wheel chair along the cemented path. She wheeled me up to my favorite bench under a magnolia tree. It was in full bloom.
“Were you ever married, Moriyama-san?” She asked me while she adjusted my blanket.
“Never married.” I told her.
“Really? A handsome stud like you? I'd think you would have had many women.” She smiled taking her seat on the bench.
“I was always waiting for the girl who held my heart to come back to me.” I said with a far off look in my eyes.
“Well I'm jealous. She must have been very lucky to have you.”
“Why, Kagome, did you just say that you were jealous? Right now, you are the only one for me.” I teased.
“Sorry, I have a rule. No dating the patients.” She chuckled.
“But you've seen me naked so many times before, Kagome.”
“Go get to exited, old fart. Some one has to change your diapers.” She laughed.
“Feh!”
We sat there for awhile enjoying the shade of the magnolia, and then I asked her, “Do you have anyone special?”
“As a matter of fact, I do. I'm engaged.” She said happily. My throat went dry. She was engaged?
“Engaged?” My voice croaked.
“Well, I guess you could say I'm engaged. Well, that's how I see it.” She brought her knees close to her chest and hugged them.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, he said he would always protect me and I said I would always stay by his side. And after thinking for awhile, it sounded like a proposal in a way. I mean, Why not? I have friends who got engaged when he asked her, `will you bear my children.'” She sounded very distant when she said this.
“What happened to him?” I asked her curiously. Was she talking about what I think she was talking about?
“Well, you could say he disappeared. But I know I'll see him again, I just know it. I will always be waiting for him,” she said, her face was aglow and full of hope and love.
So she was still waiting for me…
“I'm sure you'll see him again. He sounds like he loves you very much.” I patted her hair with my aged hands and she gave me a small smile.
“I think so too…”

A man came to our village; he said his whole village was gone. So we took him in. Not too long after that, he became ill. One villager after another became ill with the virus this man brought with him. My mother did all she could do in tending to them, but she got sick as well.
Everyone was dying. One after another, the moans at night became quiet. The life we had at the village was being destroyed in front of my eyes. Some Tendai Buddhist monks came to our village and began to tend to them. They brought herbs with them that were not from our lands and they worked. The helped everyone they could… But not my mother.
The villagers begged them to heal her, but they refused. They said it was my fault that the village was plagued; hanyou are bad luck. The villagers told them that it was the man's fault and not ours, we had been living there for three years and nothing bad happened. My mother got worse and worse everyday and the monks still didn't help.
I hardly left her side during that time. It was so hard seeing my mother, who I thought was the strongest woman in the world, look so weak. I cried a lot then, but never in front of her; for her sake, I had to be strong. She cried out for my father allot. She told me how much she loved me and loved him. She promised that it would be okay and that she wouldn't leave me. One morning when I woke up, I couldn't hear her heartbeat. She died in her sleep.
She was berried later that day. Some of the villagers mourned and the rest paid their respects. I didn't leave her grave all night and all the night, I wept. Life in the village was a blur after she died. Those monks made a monastery not to far from away. One night when I was asleep, the monks tied and gagged me. I was thrown on a back of a horse and they took me far out into the wilderness.
They tried to kill me. I was so afraid. I was still just a fucking child and had no idea what to do. That was the day that I found out my blood was deadly. Though it didn't know what I did, I just tried to scratch the monk with my claws and the next thing I knew was that he was dead. It wasn't till I got older that I found out what it was. I just thought that some unknown guardian saved me.
The other monks were to busy tending to the injured monk to realize that I had bolted. I knew I couldn't go back to the village, so I went back to the castle. What a mistake that was.
“Kagome!” My raspy voice yelled, “Kagome!”
I heard the hurried feet of sneakers rushing to my door, and the next second, there was Kagome and she looked freaked out.
“What? Did something happen? Are you okay?” She asked in a rush.
“Yes, yes, I'm fine. I just wanted to ask you if you could get me another pen. This was is almost out of ink.” I gave her my winning smile. It didn't work as well then as it did back when I was younger.
“Don't scare me like that, Moriyama-san.” She breathed.
“Okay. So will you or not?”
She reached into a pocket of her scrubs and pulled out a pen and handed it to me. “Hope you don't mind a pill pen.”
“Thanks.” I grunted to her.
“So when do you think you'll be done with it?” She asked curiously.
“Very soon.” I answered.
“What is it about?”
“It is about my life.” A gave her a mysterious grin.
“That sounds neat. Hurry and finish writing it, okay?” She said as she left the room.
