Chapter IV: More Than Can Be Handled
The next day InuYasha sat in his office furious at the fact that Sango's bail was 3,000 dollars and InuYasha did not have the money at that time.
"Should I ask Miroku for some money." InuYasha huffed. “Knowing him he’ll probably give me fucking monopoly money.”
He arose and walked out of his office seeing as Miroku walked in, late as always.
“Hey, Ayame.” Miroku said walking in.
Ayame stood up and smiled.
“Hi, Mr. Houshi! How’s everything.”
“Couldn’t be better thanks for asking.”
InuYasha studied Miroku at how he was so cheerful and alive after yesterday.
“You’re late, Miroku.” said InuYasha interjecting Ayame’s and Miroku’s conversation.
“Yash, I’m always late.”
"Anyways, have you seen Kagome?"
Miroku shook his head. "I haven't seen her since yesterday."
InuYasha looked off into space.
It's not like her to not come work. Was it something I did?
“Um....can I ask you a question, Miroku?”
“Shoot.”
“Can I borrow $3,000.”
“For what! Why would need 3,000 dollars.....does it evolve something kinky, if so, I’m in.”
“No, you filthy bastard. I need it to bail Sango out of jail.”
“Sango’s in jail!! You know I hear what ladies do together in jail.” Miroku gazed off and started to fantasize.
“Miroku, do you have the money or not!”
“Huh? Oh, no I just paid my rent and bills and I lost about $200 to a stripper last night.”
“How do you lose 200 dollars to a striper?”
“Alright, I gave her the money, but she was working her way through med school. In my book that says determination.”
“Well, in my book it says perversion.” InuYasha sighed deeply.
“I was hoping you had that money. Now, I have to ask you know who.” Miroku gasped.
“No, you have to ask him for money. I feel sorry for you.”
InuYasha nodded. “It’s the only way.”
“If you don’t make it can I have your laptop.”
InuYasha growled.
“I’ll be back this afternoon. Don’t have this place a mess when I get back either.”
“I wouldn't dream of it.”
"I didn't say dream it. Oh, and if Kagome comes by tell her to wait for me." Then InuYasha rushed out of the small law building.
"It's partytime!!" Miroku yelled then ran back into his office.
Meanwhile Kagome was standing out in front of a house that was located beside an old shrine. She walked up to the door and knocked timidly. The wooden door opened revealing a more aged version of Kagome.
"Mom!"
"Kagome, what are you doing over here?"
Kagome hugged her mother and started to cry in her shoulders.
"Mom!"
"Oh, Kagome what's wrong."
Her mother said as she rubbed her back in a soothing way and led her into the house closing the door after them. Mrs. Higurashi sat her daughter down on the near by couch, still holding her.
"Tell me what's got you so upset."
Kagome pulled back from her mother's embrace then looked into her eyes.
"I'm involved with a guy"
"What did he do to you?"
"He's married, ma"
Mrs. Higurashi sighed deeply. "Kagome, how could you?"
"I don't know what to do, he keeps hurting me."
"Well, honey you can't expect him not to. You should know better than to get involved with a guy that's married."
"He promised me that when the situation's right he would leave his wife."
Mrs. Higurashi sighed. "There's no such thing as that, Kagome. He won't leave his wife no matter how much he says he will."
Mrs. Higurashi got up and proceeded to the kitchen where Kagome follwed.
"But, he said he would and I know he means it." Kagome said as she sat down at the small breakfast table while her mother leaned against the kitched sink facing her distraught daughter.
"I bet he does mean it, but there's something in a guy that simply can't let things go. He will promise and he will promise and he will promise but he won't let go of his wife no matter how much you want him to."
"What do I do?"
"Isn't it obvious that you have to leave him."
Kagome hung her head. "I knew you would say that, but I love him."
"But you're playing with fire sweetheart and you will get burned."
Kagome nodded. "I know what I have to do."
Later on InuYasha was sitting across from a pair of amber eyes and long silver hair.
"I need three thousand dollars, Sesshomaru."
"Why?"
"Because I need to bail a client of mine out of jail."
"What'd they do?"
"She killed somebody."
Sesshomaru eyes widened.
"I know you're not talking about Santic Sango."
"What?!!"
Sesshomaru reached under his desk and pulled out a newspaper and handed it to InuYasha. On the front page in big bold letters it read, Sango Taijia, or Santic Sango, kills off Japanese mob boss.
"I made the front page. I knew this was going to be big."
"InuYasha, this story is hitting national at 6:00 this evening and, well, I don't think you're ready for a case like this."
"I am ready! You know I'm ready, but you know that this case would give me worldwide coverage even if I lose and you're just afraid that my firm will be bigger than yours."
"First off, your small insignificant firm is no match for mine and second off this case is way too dangerous."
"Are you going to give me the money or not?"
"No! I won't help you bail a crazed killer."
"She's not a crazed killer"
"She stabbed the guy seventeen times."
"I'm tired of you judging people. I stand up for the little guy that's why I'm a defense attorney."
"No, you're a defense attorney because you couldn't get straight A's in law school."
"Just because you did doesn't make you any better."
"No, just because I did I am prosecutor, not a low life defense attorney."
"You know I am not like the sterotypes that they project about defense attorneies. I defend, not lie and maky up things so drug lords can go free and fuck up the community."
"That's right, little brother. You're not. That's why you have small little penniless firm on the corner of Doshibaku Dr."
"Once I win the case I will be large."
"Little brother, don't take this case. It's for your own good."
InuYasha narrowed his eyes and stared Sesshomaru down.
"Why are you so interested in getting me to drop this case."
The older brother sighed. "This morning Shintaro Ishihara called and said he wanted me to take the Tajia case."
"The governor, Shintaro Ishihara."
Sesshomaru nodded. "I don't want to embarass you."
"Embarass?! What makes you think you'll win."
Sesshomaru pointed to the paper and InuYasha began to read, Perp admitted the fact that she stabbed him seventeen times before firing off a gun.
"Oh, shit. I am way over my head."
"I told you, I bet you were thinking self-defense because of the rape." InuYasha folded his arms and set back.
"Yeah, maybe I did."
"Stabbing someone seventeen times and shooting them is 1st degree not self defense."
InuYasha sighed.
I am completely in over my head.
"I can handle this, brother. This way I can finally show you how great of lawyer I am." with that InuYasha left his brother's office.
A/n: The plot thickens.
