InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Middle Road ❯ The Seer ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Do not own Inuyasha.

"Sango-sama." Sango opened her eyes, light was peaking through the cracks in the hut's walls. It was morning. She was lying in a futon near the fire funny, she thought I don't remember going to bed. She sat straight up. "Houshi-sama, how long have I been asleep?" He placed a hand on her shoulder, the thought of groping her, strangely, never entered his mind. The situation was far too dire to act like that. "Only for a few hours." Her eyes widened, she hadn't meant to fall asleep. "But what about Kagome's-" "I changed her bandages for you, don't worry."

She looked up into his eyes caringly, slightly surprised "Th-thank you Houshi-sama." Suddenly Kaede entered the room, she was carrying a clay bowl with a pinkish liquid pooled in the bottom. "Ah," she started "Sango, you have woken. I have just recently finished my introspection. And I believe I have found the solution." "The solution?" Sango said, "You've found some way to help Kagome-chan?" "I have." The old priestess got down on her knees next to Kagome and sat the bowl down. "It seems that the gods have presented me with an herbal elixer," Miroku and Sango stared at the liquid skeptically "So this will heal Kagome-sama?" asked the monk with a raised eyebrow. "It will hasten the healing process of Kagome's wounds," she looked uncertain a moment, "but as I said before, it will come at a price."

"So you said," Sango remarked, "but at what price?" "I am unsure," she looked down at the girl, "the meditation yielded nothing, we will be forced to wait until she wakes, only then can we be sure of the extent of Inuyasha's imprudence."

"Inuyasha-sama," an aged, old woman beckoned the hanyou, "you have once again blessed me with your presence."

"Cut the crap old hag," he narrowed his eyes at her as he entered a crudely built, timeworn hut "you know why I'm here."

"Yes," she drawled out her words "so I do." she motioned for Inuyasha to sit. "You have returned to me to hear more of the seer."

"Where can I find this...'seer'?" The old woman smiled playfully, "The middle road that swings outside the lines, yet also goes within." he furrowed his brow

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"It means, Inuyasha-sama," she smirked, "that you will be forced to use your intellect for once, instead of your sword.

"Feh," he looked annoyed "and stop calling me 'sama'!"

"It is your title, is it not? Are you not the son of the demon lord of the western lands?"

"Well, stop calling me that."

"Hai, as you wish...Inuyasha..." he walked out "...sama." she said quietly after he had left. She rushed to the door and yelled after him, "And beware of the river's flow!"

************

"Inuyasha..." Kagome moaned in her sleep. "She must be dreaming," said Sango.

"I hope her dreams are enjoyable." Miroku said as he grabbed her hand. Sango blushed at the action and lowered her head.

"Do you think Kagome-chan knows what's happened to her?" He appeared to be deep in thought for a moment then looked up at her,

"Well," he said slowly "I hope so. Because we are not entirely sure what has happened to her." They sat in silence for many minutes, unsure of what could be said. Sango swallowed her trepidation

"Houshi-sama?" she queried.

"Hmm?"

"Where do you think Inuyasha is going? Some villagers said they saw him heading west, possibly toward Kai."

"So?"

"Well, that region is ruled by Takeda."

"And..." "And we came from that direction when we defeated Naraku, right?"

"Yes, and your point is...?"

"Maybe something happened to Inuyasha on our return trip here, something..."

"...that would make him want to steal the shikon no tama form Kagome-sama." They thought about this a minute,

"Do you remember that village we passed through last month, around Kofu?"

"Yes."

"And how Inuyasha acted somewhat peculiar after we left the next morning?"

"Yes." he rested his chin on his hand, things were starting to make sense.

Please tell me if my Sengoku jidai Japanese geography is off.

'the middle road that swings outside the lines, yet also goes within' is from a poem of mine called 'Babylon'. In case you were wondering.
