Chapter 7 WARIASHI VILLAGE
"I mean it. I don't have time to waste with the likes of you. Step aside and I won't have to cut you in half."
Inuyasha had been arguing with this tiny, little bat demon they ran into on the road for what seemed to Shippo like forever. He could have just killed the stupid thing and have been done with it. But then Inuyasha had to tell someone how great he was every now and then or his big head would burst.
"Would you two give it a rest already?!" Kagome had had enough.
"Look," she continued to the tiny demon. "We are leaving and if you try anything, Inuyasha here is going to have to kill you. And if he doesn't scare you then maybe Miroku's wind tunnel will. You'll be sucked in within seconds."
The bat demon said nothing. They walked right by him without trouble.
"You should have done that in the first place ." Sango said.
"Keh. I had him good and scared before you ever barged in."
Miroku rolled his eyes.
"Oh, yeah. He looked real scared. That's why he didn't so much as flinch from your threats right?" Miroku said with obvious sarcasm.
"I am so not in the mood for this." Kagome said, quietly.
She had been acting strange all morning. Shippo knew something was up but nobody bothered to tell him what. All he knew was that when he came back with a second firebug last night to show Kagome, she looked like she had been hit hard in the gut. Inuyasha's fault probably, he thought.
They walked in silence for a while. Nobody could think of anything to say that didn't involve Naraku or fighting. They all knew that something was bothering Kagome. Only Miroku knew what, though.
Kagome was lost in thought. She couldn't get last night out of her head. She was pretty sure she knew what Miroku was gonna say. Now she kinda wished she had let him finish. But deep down she knew that would just make things even more complicated and uncomfortable. If Inuyasha someday decides to pull his big head out of his butt, then maybe he'll tell her himself. But until that day, she didn't want to hear it from anyone else. He would just deny it anyway.
She looked up into the late morning sun. ‘Just forget the whole night,' she thought to herself.
Kagome was trying so hard to forget about last night that she didn't realize that the group had stopped. She turned around to find them all talking to a villager on the side of the little dirt path.
She got back just in time to hear the end of the conversation.
"....so now I don't know whether or not I'm doing the right thing."
"You had better go back to your village. We can head for your Wariashi Village and find out about your brother........for a small fee of coarse." Miroku was already holding out his hand.
The villager nodded his head vigorously.
"Of coarse! Of coarse!" He dug in his robes for his change pouch and handed it to Miroku. "Here! It's all I have. Please, help my brother and his family."
"We will do everything we can," Sango said.
The villager turned to leave as the group turned back the way they came.
"May I ask what that was about?" Kagome inquired.
"That villager's name was Mingu. His brother is Mingi, a warrior from Wariashi village. He said that Mingi sent him a message saying that something was coming. He didn't say what." Miroku explained.
"So we're going?" Kagome asked.
"Yes. Mingu said that Mingi has a tendency to exaderate things, so he didn't know whether or not he should take the time from tending his crops to make the trip or not. That's where we come in."
"I see. We're making a buck." Kagome said with some disapproval.
"You could put it like that I suppose." Miroku said with a smile.
"Isn't the Shekilake Women's Shrine in Wariashi?"
