Chapter 7

Important Confessions

 

 

Koga gasped. He was about to say something, but a look from the hanyou silenced him. Inuyasha knew that Koga understood what he was doing. He should be able to smell it. He was taking back his claim on the woman he loved more than anything in the world. The claim he had made with his touch.

When Inuyasha finally let go, unshed tears glistened in his eyes. He ignored the confused look on Kagome's face and glared at Koga demandingly.

The wolf demon walked over to Kagome, taking her hands in his. It was the first time Inuyasha didn't growl. Koga looked into Kagome's eyes, he needed to take back his claim too, even if he didn't want to.

“Kagome…” he paused dramatically, “I will always love you, no matter what. Don't forget that. If this stupid human messes up with you, I'll always be there to pick up the pieces,” he smiled sadly at her confused face and walked away.

“Koga?” Kagome called after him. He turned to her. “Goodbye, Kagome…” He gritted his teeth to keep from saying three little words he so desperately wanted her to say back. He couldn't bear the pain of having her reject him again.

Kagome stared at the wolf demon in shock, then turned to Inuyasha, but he wasn't there. She was left to stare at an even more confused Yuu.

“I guess we're alone now…” he said, “And we can say we have their blessings.”

“Yeah…” `blessings? No, I think it was something else…'

Kagome sighed. She still didn't understand. Yuu was walking beside her. They had just left the village. Kagome had spent the rest of the previous day with Yuu, visiting his family and meeting his friends. He was a pretty rich guy. She hadn't seen Inuyasha for the rest of the day; Koga either. When Sango and Miroku had gone to sleep, Kagome had followed, and Yuu had gone to sleep with his family one last time. In this era, you couldn't have a simple boyfriend. Nooooo, it had to be your future husband…

Kagome sighed again. Inuyasha had only come in the morning, announcing that they were leaving. He hadn't spoken to her once. He just looked anywhere but at her, looking sad and pained. Kagome just didn't get it. Why was he acting so strange? Why was he so damn hurt?

She was pulled out of her thoughts when Inuyasha spoke to her. “Get on my back,” he said, his voice emotionless, “We're too slow.”

“Wha-? You travel on his back, Kag?”

“Um…yeah…?” she said, more asking a question than answering one.

Yuu looked at them suspiciously and Inuyasha sighed his annoyance with him.

“What? And he holds your legs?” Yuu asked angrily.

“Yuu…” Kagome started, warningly, “it's the only was for us to go faster. You can ride on Kirara. Kirara, can you carry three people?” Kagome asked, turning to Kirara.

Kirara growled at Yuu and then almost reluctantly, purred in the direction of Kagome who smiled warmly. The man hesitated a little, but when he met Kagome's gaze, he knew it would be a huge mistake to say no…even if Inuyasha touching Kagome might just ruin his plan.

Kagome got on Inuyasha's back, who winced at the feel of her so close to him. It hurt him now, and Yuu's stench was all over her. She usually smelled like him, being stuck to him all the time…or sometimes like Sango, or Kirara…but this was too much…

He gritted his teeth and ran. Kirara soon followed him, Sango, Miroku and Yuu in between - so Miroku wouldn't grope Sango on the way - .

Inuyasha tightened his hold on Kagome's legs and ran faster than usual, feeling the wind slapping his face. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck tightly and buried her face in his neck. She thought he needed a hug…but it was hurting him…

`How could I even think she'd love me? I'm just a dirty half-breed after all…Nobody'll ever accept me and take me for who I am…'

`Shut up!' a voice yelled in his head, `She accepts you, she takes you for who you are, but you hurt her every time you went to Kikyo…who didn't even accept you as you were. You hurt her, you pay the price now.'

`Kikyo…' he thought sadly, `I wish…I wish I hadn't fallen in love with you in the first place…Now it's costing me Kagome…'

The trip was terribly boring and sad. And to add to their depression, they encountered NO demons whatsoever during the day. None. They spent the whole day listening to Yuu whine, seeing Inuyasha grit his teeth and tighten his hold on Kagome, as if showing her he was making efforts not to tear the guy apart, until Kagome finally broke the tension. “Yuu, quit whining,” she said, “I'm sorry you don't like this, but I warned you our quest wasn't fun. Inuyasha, can we please stop, Shippo,” she looked at the kitsune in her arms, “is getting a little tired, I think…”

Inuyasha nodded silently and stopped running, waiting for Kagome to be safely on the ground before hopping on a tree.

“Inuyasha, I'm going to take a swim, it's really hot here…” Miroku said. When Inuyasha didn't react, he added, “Shippo is coming with me,” still nothing, “INUYASHA GET YOU ASS DOWN HERE AND COME WITH US!”

Inuyasha frowned and followed him to the nearby spring, as Kagome, Sango and Yuu gaped at them.

Once they were out of hearing reach, Shippo hurled himself in Inuyasha's arms, who caught him and frowned. “Inuyasha! You have to make him go! I don't like him! Kagome doesn't like him either! I know she doesn't! She just wants you!”

Inuyasha smiled sadly at Shippo's naïveté. (a/n: this is an actual English word ppl…I never knew that u wrote it with ané…)

“No, Shippo, she doesn't. She doesn't want me. She told me…”

“Yes she does! I heard her tell Sango! She told Sango she loved you so many times! And that night she kissed Yuu, I heard her tell Sango that she thought Yuu was like you, that's why she wants him! She loves you, Inuyasha! You have to tell her you love her back! You have to! I don't want him! I hate him!! I want you to be my father Inuyasha! Not him!” And with that, Shippo cried in Inuyasha's chest, who just looked bewildered.

`She…loves me?' that thought turned and turned in his head, bringing a grin to his face and a few tears in his eyes. He threw a yelping Shippo in Miroku's arms, and ran back to camp.

“Kagome!” he yelled, “Kagome!! Kagome!!” and then he saw her. She had gotten up to see what was all the commotion about, and he could see the worry in her eyes, as she thought maybe something happened to him. She ran to him and cupped his face with her hands, forgetting for a moment that he might be mad at her.

“Inuyasha…are you okay? What is it? What's wrong?” She had ran half the way through the forest, and they were completely alone. Inuyasha grinned and pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her and burying his face in her neck.

“Kagome, I'm fine, Everyone's fine…I just... Shippo just told me something and I had to come tell you that I love you, Kagome! I love you, I love you so much!” he said it so fast that she barely understood anything. Her eyes widened and filled with tears. He loved her. She stayed still right there, not knowing if she should tell him she loved him back or not. Did she love him? Of course she did. She loved him more than anything, but he couldn't go on hurting her like this…

“Inuyasha…” she whispered, shaken with tears, “I…I don't…I don't know what to say…”

Inuyasha felt like someone had just stabbed him right in the chest. Stupid wishful thinking…again! Of course she didn't love him back! How could she? She had someone already, and he was nothing but a third wheel…

 

A/N: OMG!!!! I love this! This is such a good cliff hanger!! But I PROMISE Ill update soon, I have to, I need to know what happens too! I mean, I have the plot in mind, but I don't know exactly what Im gonna do…Anyway, Ill stop blabbering and go to the next chapter!!!!!
