Chapter 11
Death
(AN will be here so I don't ruin the end. I'm sorry this took a while, but I have good reasons, that I won't explain because I'm too lazy. PS: Don't hate me, I'll try updating as soon as I can, annnnnd, this story DOES finish well. If you read “Everytime We Touch” you'll know that all my stories do…even in death.)
Kagome now understood more of what was happening.
Mamoru was going to hurt her. He was going to make her cry, exhaust her until she could no longer hold them. He was going to break her soul, making her kill her friends, her love and then he was going to make her do his bidding.
“You monster,” she choked out between sobs, “You disgusting monster…”
“Monster?” he laughed. “I guess you're right.”
Her sobs only doubled, and she averted her gaze to Inuyasha. Electric blue crashed into amber as she begged forgiveness with one stare. Inuyasha could hardly keep his eyes open, painfully aware of the hole in his chest.
Kagome's arms were trembling. She couldn't hold them up much longer. Especially now that Yuu was moving around, trying to break free. It was even harder to support his weight with the little power she possessed. She had just began to control her spiritual powers and needed a lot more training.
“So, miko,” Mamoru started evilly, “Is it tiring?”
All she could do was growl at him. She wouldn't tell him just how much it was hard on her. She wouldn't tell him how much she was hurting. Inuyasha tried to ask her to let go again, but his voice just wouldn't come out. Yuu was still squirming and Kagome was tempted to let him go. She couldn't hold them both anymore.
Mamoru smirked, reading her thoughts. She was about to let one down, was she? He would push her over the edge. With a flick of his wrist, he gave Yuu back his voice. He screamed and yelled, and cursed for her to let him down.
Kagome growled in his direction. Oh, how she wanted to hurt him, but the only thing she could do was let him go, and that would kill him for sure. She couldn't do that. She just couldn't.

“Faster, Hashi!” Sango growled, “Faster, damn it! Can you tell if they're close?”
“I think so, Sango-san…” he whimpered. Would she ever stop yelling at him?
“We're going to save them, aren't we, Miroku?” Shippo whined.
“Of course we are, Shippo!” Sango answered him, “Don't ever doubt it!”
Shippo gulped. If Mamoru wasn't going to kill them…then Sango would…

It was getting so hard to keep them up, now…She was sweating and breathing heavily, her arms were shaking, making the barriers less strong. It was as if she was holding something very heavy…and she would break eventually. She wasn't stupid; she knew she was eventually going to have to let go of one of them, and hell would freeze over before it was Inuyasha. She didn't want to hurt either of them, even if Yuu had just hurt her more than she could even express.
Maybe if she tried to transfer her own body strength into the barriers, they would be stronger?
No, she couldn't try anything, not in this condition.
All she had to do was wait and pray for a miracle…
Wait and hurt…hurt like hell.
Her arms were shaking like never before as she held them up. Her head hurt like hell and she felt that she would faint anytime soon. She looked over to Mamoru who was smirking evilly, enjoying her suffering. Inuyasha had his eyes closed but she could tell he was alert to everything around him and probably trying to formulate some sort of plan…
Her arms shook, and the only word she could find to describe her current position was agony. Pure agony. She could hardly feel her arms or legs, and wanted so bad to just drop everything and die there… But she couldn't. She would die before she let anything worse happen to Inuyasha. He was already in a terrible state, and she couldn't help him. She loved him, but couldn't help him. As usual, she was helpless to save him. This saddened her…he was always saving her life, and all she could ever do for him was…sit him.
It had taken her a while to understand what it meant for him. She was taking down his rank of alpha. He was and would always be the pack's alpha. By sitting him like a miserable dog, by showing that she could control him with a word, she was bringing him down.
She had also realized that when she sat him in front of Koga, she was almost telling him that she preferred Koga over him, and that she was making Koga win. But the worst of it all, was that she was bringing him down in front of his rival.
All this brought tears to her eyes, and then she remembered when he told her he loved her…it had been a few hours, but still, she felt like it had been days…and she felt like a jerk. A total, complete jerk…
“You...love me?” she asked, crying.
“Please say you love me back, Kagome…” he begged.
“I…I can't…” she sobbed as she lowered her head. She couldn't bear to see the pain in his eyes. “Inuyasha, I know you…You'll go back to Kikyo whenever she comes around…”
“But, Kagome…Kikyo's- ”
“No, Inuyasha,” she sniffled, “Don't say it. You will. I know you. I…I trust you with my life Inuyasha, but not with my heart…”
How she must have hurt him…How she understood his pain…he was going to say something about Kikyo, wasn't he? But what was it? She hadn't let him finish…Why the hell hadn't she let him finish?!
She hadn't even realized the tears had started to fall. Inuyasha did, though…He smelled each and every tear, and it broke his already shattered heart.
It was just too much for her, and she fell to her knees. Both barriers shook considerably. She couldn't take it anymore…The barriers were starting to fade, and everyone noticed, because they were all staring at her. Mamoru was smirking, and so was Kamoru, Yuu was yelling things she couldn't get her mind to understand, and Inuyasha was staring at her with begging eyes, obviously wanting her to drop them both.
Her arms shook even more, and her body followed until she couldn't take it anymore. Her sobs doubled as her right hand went to her left one, and she shut her eyes tight, willing herself not to hear Yuu's scream of agony as he fell…and fell…and fell…and died…
Her sobs grew ten fold as Mamoru laughed even harder than before. Her pain radiated off of her and Inuyasha could almost taste it. They were all lucky that he was in his human form, or else he would have turned full youkai and killed them all…
Kagome's arms were both directed to Inuyasha as she held him up as much as she could, but they still shook, and she was still hurting. She was almost oblivious to the world around her as she cried, hoping that she would be able to hold Inuyasha long enough for…for…something to happen!
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
Her whole body shook as she used all of the energy she possessed to lift Inuyasha's weight. Maybe…maybe if she moved him and dropped him on the ground…maybe if she stopped holding him up…maybe Mamoru wouldn't kill them…She still had the shards, right? She could threaten to destroy them…
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase.
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase.
Wait, her mind wasn't functioning correctly; she could never pull off anything like that, especially if she was in this condition.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me
She could hardly breathe anymore, as exhausted as she was. It was getting to be too much…She knew she wouldn't last much longer. She could feel the energy draining out of her. She didn't possess enough power to go on. She could hear Mamoru and Inuyasha speaking to her, but she couldn't comprehend a word they were saying.
You used to captivate me
By your resonating life
Now I'm bound by the life you've left behind
Your face it haunts
By your resonating life
Now I'm bound by the life you've left behind
Your face it haunts
It was getting so hard, she couldn't take it anymore. Her arms were shaking even harder now, and she couldn't feel her body anymore. It was getting hard to breathe, and even to stay awake.
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me
“Inuyasha…” she whispered softly as her strength gave out. He opened his eyes wide as the barrier faded, and started to lower.
Mamoru smirked, as he said meanly, “Are you going to give up, miko?”
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along
“Inuyasha…” she whispered again, “Gomen nasai…I tried, ai…”
Ai…
“Kagome…?” he uttered before her strength completely gave out and he fell.
He fell.
“INUYASHAAA!!” she yelled as she got up, “No! NO!”
She got up, and, using the last of the strength she had, ran to him, and before Mamoru or Kamuro could do anything, she had thrown herself on him, and had hugged him tightly, turning them over so that she was under him.
“Inuyasha…” she whispered in the last moments of her life. The wind was slapping them as they both fell, their bodies intertwined for the last time…
“I love you,” they said in unison, before she hit the ground.
