Chapter 12

Memories, Bitter Memories…

 

Inuyasha's eyes fluttered open slowly as the morning rays filled the sky. He got up, sniffing the air around him.

It reeked of death.

Slowly, memories of the past night came to him.

“Inuyasha…” she whispered in the last moments of her life. The wind was slapping them as they both fell, their bodies intertwined for the last time…

“I love you,” they said in unison, before she hit the ground.

“Kagome…” he whispered, tears forming in his eyes as he saw her. She was just lying there, the usually so alive Kagome, just lying there, dirt staining her cheeks, an almost peaceful look on her face. “No…” he breathed, leaping to her in a second.

He took her hand in his, pulling her upper body to press against his chest. “I'm sorry…” he went on whispering, “I should have protected you…”

It hit him then, that she knew what she was doing when she jumped over him.

She had thrown herself on him, and had hugged him tightly, turning them over so that she was under him.

She was planning on saving him from the start… She knew that if she fell under him, he would only suffer a little…

“You baka!” he yelled in frustration, “WHY?!”

Tears slid down his cheeks as he held her tighter. “Why couldn't I save you…?”

“I love you,” they said in unison, before she hit the ground.

He held her head close to his and pressed his lips to hers tenderly. And suddenly, an idea hit him.

“Sesshomaru…” he said slowly.

“Inuyasha!!” Sango yelled, tears still flowing from her eyes, “Kagome!!”

“Kagome!” Shippo followed, “Where are you?!”

“Inuyasha! Kagome!” Miroku screamed as well.

They had defeated Mamuro quite easily. Or should I say Miroku had defeated Mamoru?

“Faster Hashi!” Sango screamed, her eyes filling with tears. She could see everything from where they were…

They all jumped down, just in time to see Kagome running after a falling Inuyasha.

“KAGOME!!!” Sango screeched, “NO!”

Miroku jumped off of Hashi while Mamoru and Kamuro were distracted by Kagome falling and opened his Kazaana. “DIE!” he growled as they were both sucked in.

“Houshi-sama!” Sango cried, tears sliding down her cheeks freely, “Kagome…”

Shippo was just standing there, staring at the cliff, at the spot where he had last seen Kagome. His adoptive mother…was going to die…

“Kagome…” he whispered, “Mama…”

Sango seemed to snap out of her trance as she heard those words.

“We gotta go find them!” she yelled.

They were now close to where Kagome and Inuyasha should have fallen.

“Inuyasha!” Miroku exclaimed when he saw the hanyou.

“Miroku…” Inuyasha whispered dumbly.

“KAGOME!” Shippo screeched, running to his adoptive mother. “Mama!” he yelled as he shook her shoulders with his tiny hands, “Mama, wake up!”

Sango grabbed Miroku's robe and sobbed into it, while he stroked her hair tenderly.

“Kagome…Why…?” she cried.

“Kagome-sama…” the houshi whispered.

Inuyasha stared at Shippo for a while, who was now sobbing, hardly shaking Kagome's shoulders anymore. The hanyou pulled him in a crushing hug, letting him sob on his chest.

`Kagome…' Inuyasha thought as memories rushed thorugh his mind.

“I'll stay with you, Inuyasha,” she said, taking his hand. “I promise.”

`Kagome…'

“Inuyasha…” she tried calmly.

“You're mine!” he growled, his fangs lengthening.

`Kagome…'

Inuyasha grinned and pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her and burying his face in her neck.

“Kagome, I'm fine, Everyone's fine…I just... Shippo just told me something and I had to come tell you that I love you, Kagome! I love you, I love you so much!” he said it so fast that she barely understood anything. Her eyes widened and filled with tears. He loved her. She stayed still right there, not knowing if she should tell him she loved him back or not. Did she love him? Of course she did. She loved him more than anything, but he couldn't go on hurting her like this…

`Kagome…'

“You...love me?” she asked, crying.

“Please say you love me back, Kagome…” he begged.

“I…I can't…” she sobbed as she lowered her head. She couldn't bear to see the pain in his eyes. “Inuyasha, I know you…You'll go back to Kikyo whenever she comes around…”

“But, Kagome…Kikyo's- ”

“No, Inuyasha,” she sniffled, “Don't say it. You will. I know you. I…I trust you with my life Inuyasha, but not with my heart…”

He felt like someone was ripping his heart out. This was the woman he loved. The woman who was rejecting him at the present moment.

`Kagome…'

“Inuyasha…” she whispered again, “Gomen nasai…I tried, ai…”

`Kagome…'

She got up, and, using the last of the strength she had, ran to him, and before Mamoru or Kamuro could do anything, she had thrown herself on him, and had hugged him tightly, turning them over so that she was under him.

“Inuyasha…” she whispered in the last moments of her life. The wind was slapping them as they both fell, their bodies intertwined for the last time…

“Kagome…” he whispered, tears filling his eyes again. “Sango, Miroku!” he suddenly yelled, “We have to find Sesshomaru, now!”

:hides: Yes, I know, evil evil evil IK Obsession… :sigh: but what can I do? And I'm sorry it's a little short, but I had to stop there, and it's better than nothing, ne? A lot of you thought Inuyasha AND Kagome were dead, but nope, it's only Kag.

I'm pretty sure all of you guessed why Inuyasha wants to see Sesshomaru…
