Even Kagura Needs Love

The two women walked on in silence. Kagura glanced back at her companion, taking in her irritated expression, and quirked an eyebrow.

“No need to be so moody,” Kagura said. “I was just curious. After all, don't girls talk to each other about the boys they like?'

Sango would not look at her. She just kept forging ahead. The question Kagura had so glibly quipped at her had caused turmoil of emotions inside her, feelings she was not at ease discussing.

“Speaking of boys, aren't there any you like?” Sango shot back. “Or do you prefer girls?”

Taken aback by the unforeseen retort, Kagura opened her mouth, and then shut it quickly. It took her a moment to regain her composure. Her mind raced as she sought a way to regain control of the conversation. An image in her mind of a tall, beautiful and powerful Inu youkai Lord threatened to sidetrack her thoughts.

“Boys, girls, a woman in my position will take whatever she can get,” Kagura said. “I don't get many choices or opportunities.”

Drawing beside her, Sango glanced at Kagura her face softened with remorse. The other woman's answer made her feel she had acted stupid and insensitive. Knowingly or not, her answer had reminded her of the harsh reality of Kagura's life. Sango raised a hand to her face and sighed.

“You were right, I do have feelings for Miroku,” Sango said softly. “But he is such a hentai, it makes me crazy. Kagome says he really loves me, just as I tell her InuYasha loves her. But the way they act…it made us draw together for solace and comfort.”

Silently Kagura nodded.

“You are lucky you know,” Kagura said. “I have no friends, only Kanna. Imagine trying to get any warmth from that ice maiden.”
