A Fragile Truce

A fragile truce was forged between Kagura and Sango, and the demon slayer looked at the wind sorceress with a softened expression. It was not noticed by Kagura, as she swept aside the forest brush with her fan. She held her head proudly erect, not wanting to catch any pity on the face of her companion. So Sango looked away, nodding to herself in understanding.

“How much farther?” Sango asked. “Couldn't we have got there faster if we flew?”

“There is no place to land,” Kagura replied. “The forest around the cave is very dense, that is why we chose it as our safe place. We should get there in about three or four hours, as long as we don't run into trouble.”

It was a lot of hard work, but Sango was used to pushing her body as far as it would go, if not farther. Her arms ached as she swung her sword, grimly thinking it would need a good sharpening when she got back to her group. With a pang at the thought of her friends, and her brows pinched down in concern. Were they looking for her? She had told them she would not be gone long, and it was into her second day. They were very loyal, and for that she was grateful, but some things she would rather not have them involved in…

When the ground began to tremble, and both women stopped and looked around, arms akimbo and ready for a fight. The trembling became shaking, and the trees began to rattle violently.

“Gishinn!” Kagura yelled, and dove on top of Sango as trees toppled down towards them.

Sango hit the dirt face first, the forest debris scratching her face and going in her nose. Kagura took the blows of the fallen trees.
