Gift from a Wind Sorceress

“Think of it as a gift,” Kagura replied. “I have some limited influence on Kohaku as Naraku's spawn, but it won't last.”

Sango tilted her head, eyebrows shooting up in surprise. Kohaku peered around her at Kagura, and then looked back at Sango. She looked back at him and smiled encouragingly, one arm around his shoulders.

“You look familiar,” Kohaku said. “I've been separated from my sister and you reunited us, thank you.”

Kagura smirked, and snorted lightly. No one ever thanked her for anything, what a laugh! But the boy would return to being a zombie soon enough. This little interlude she had created on a whim and as a gift to her erstwhile lover would end. Watching them smile at each other, love in their eyes, stirred something inside her and she frowned. Was that…pity for someone else besides her self? What an odd feeling…

“Come out in the light where I can see you,” Sango said. “Are you hurt?”

Kohaku limped a little as they walked out into the light. He stared about him at the destruction, while Sango checked him for injuries. Besides a few scratches and scrapes, he looked fine, and brushed off her worries with a wave of his hand. Kagura had followed them out.

Suddenly Kohaku went stock still, almost rigid. His eyes changed, as if all the light was going out of them. Her face filled with anguish, Sango glanced at Kagura. The wind sorceress nodded. Her gift to Sango had reached its end.

“Will he remember seeing us together?” Sango asked.

“I think the incident was educational for the boy,” Kagura said, smiling. “But since he did not seem very pleased with the experience, I hope not for his sake.”

Sango's arm slid off his shoulder. Kohaku stepped away, towards Kagura.
