InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Protector's Heart ❯ Naraku's Death ( Chapter 1 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

Hello everyone! This is my first Inuyasha fanfic. As much as your probably sighing right now about another dead end author (I don't blame you) I have probably read about ten 300+ page highly esteemed Inufics. Including, but not limited to: The Lucky Ones, Phoenix Blade: Time Lapse, Mating Season, Transformations, Possession, You Darkness, and LOVE POISIN. Essentially while I loved and cherished all of these incredible stories and authors there were always certain elements I found myself desiring to be incorporated into the plot. So I wrote up my own original plot and put in all of the aforementioned elements and thus- The Protector's Heart. I know there is only one chapter up but I have story boarded up to almost twenty chapters already, so there should be an update at least two or three times a week- though I will try to do one a day, and a couple on the weekends. Thanks for reading and enjoy…

The Protector's Heart

Chapter One: Naraku's Death

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters of Inuyasha; Takahashi-sama does.

CURSE YOU INYASHA! This is… is… not… o..v…er…” A final shudder and his form blew away in the wind as the completed trinket fell to the ground. It was finally over; they had done it. Naraku was dead and the Shikon no Tama complete once more.

Kagome stiffened suddenly and then collapsed when her legs could no longer hold her. The hanyou was instantly by her side holding her, comforting her, wiping away her tears of joy and bitterness. They had sacrificed so much for this and now it was over. They were over. They would wish on the jewel and then she would never seen Inuyasha again. It was more than she could handle.

How can I possibly return to being a normal teenager anymore after this? I am seventeen and have seen more than any of my friends could ever understand. She sighed a warm feeling of belonging overwhelming her despair. Well, no one from my time at least. But here I have Miroku, Sango, Shippou and all the rest. And then there is Inuyasha.. Inuyasha…. The despair came back again at that thought.

“Inuyasha,” Kagome sighed his name almost in a daze, mirroring the voice in her head. She loved it when he held her like this. His arms wrapped protectively around her waist, her back pressed against his warm chest as a deep rumble soothed her worries. Her head was tucked under his chin and she could feel the warmth of his breath against her.

Inuyasha pulled her even closer and she could feel his heart beating, its steady rhythm soothing her frayed nerves. “Kagome,” he whispered softly. She shivered at the way he said her name. It was if he was saying, “Kagome its okay your safe now… let me hold you… let me protect you…

`JUST SHUT UP AND LET ME PROTECT YOU!' She smiled at her memory from over two and a half years ago. Even he hadn't known the meaning of those words when he said them, but if he didn't then he certainly did now. He had always protected her, and despite his inability to voice his feelings she was sure Inuyasha cared for her… Although she knew he felt differently for her than Sango or Miroku or Shippou, she just couldn't imagine him returning her feelings. True there were times when he could be very gentle like he was being now… but he could just be such a baka sometimes. Inuyasha you baka- where do we go from here?

Looking over her shoulder her thoughts turned to the monk and the slayer who had become their comrades in battle, and their closest friends. The slayer was leaning heavily on the houshi to stand; Hiriakotsu lay on the ground forgotten. During the course of the battle one of Naraku's tentacles had threatened to impale Miroku. Sango had thrown the great bone boomerang in front of him just in time; it would never be wielded again. Hiriakotsu was split in twain. Though it had cracked over a year ago and was repaired with the help of Inuyasha's fang, the damage was too extensive for any hope of salvaging it this time. That part of Sango's life was over now, but it didn't stop her from feeling as though she had lost a part of herself. She was comforted in knowing that she had also gained a part of herself too, her tears of happiness soaking the houshi's shoulder. Miroku on the other hand just stood slack jawed at the smooth skin of his right hand. He was finally free to love Sango. His instincts for self preservation overwhelmed by the utter happiness of the moment he scooped her up into a passionate kiss, which surprisingly she returned.

I wish Inuyasha would kiss me like that… especially after Kikyou died. I thought that it would change things between us; not like it hasn't. Inuyasha at least has seemed to be somewhat more clear in his intentions but… Kagome bit her lip in frustration and a tiny stream of blood began to dribble down her chin. She couldn't help but notice how Inuyasha seemed to stiffen. That bad huh? Not like you haven't smelled my blood before idiot… and most of those times I was really injured. Kami-sama, Inuyasha please don't start another fight with me I just don't think I can take it right now. To her surprise he twisted her around in his lap so she was facing him.

“Kagome…” He stared at her in a trance, as if considering something. Kagome if you only knew… and now that Kikyou is gone and the Shikon no Tama is complete then maybe… maybe… Maybe what you baka? How could you even think of doing that to her now, now when she has to leave us?

She will not leave us. She is our mate. We have claimed her. His demon half reminded him. All we need to do is convince her we are sincere and she will submit.

Shut the hell up! What would you know about it? The hanyou snarled back. Inuyasha had come to converse with his two sides more and more often as of late, and sometimes it could get really annoying. His demon side was a pompous ass that never considered the implications his actions would have on a human. His human side was… well…

`She is not a demon like you asshole! She has feelings. If we told her how we feel it would only make things worse for her. She belongs in her time with her family no matter what we feel for her. Besides we don't even know how she feels about us… other than as a close friend…' His human side was essentially the voice of reason… which was exactly why the hanyou constantly caught between his two halves arguing didn't listen to him. He hated the weakness his human heart could sometimes give him. Though he did admit he didn't know if he would be able to feel for Kagome the way he did if he didn't have it.

Both of you shut up and lemme think goddamnit!

`Isn't that what were doing?' They replied simultaneously.

He quietly “feh'ed” to himself as his thoughts returned to the intoxicating smell of Kagome's blood that was making a small stream down her chin. He gently licked it up, coaxing a small moan from Kagome before he pulled himself away to judge his work. Her lips look so soft… She gazed back at him with a confused look, clearly having no idea of the tantalizing opportunity Inuyasha was running over and over again in his head. Finally coming to a decision he pulled her gently towards him. Her lips hovered mere inches away from his, time seemed to slow down as each breath they took echoed against the otherworldly silence that consumed the few feet around them that was their world. It seemed to take an eternity, their lips moving in the smallest possible increments. The heat and pressure between them seemed to build until both of their heads were swimming and barely capable of thought. I'm probably gonna get a thousand sits for this one…

Kagome's breaths were coming in short desperate pants, barely audible to human ears. Is… is he going to KISS me? Her heart hammered in her chest so hard she swore it was going to be burst. I can feel his lips already… feel the kiss… Her vision seemed to falter though she was staring straight at him. Oh god I'm going blind. I'm going to die if this suspense lasts any longer. Kami-sama I…. I…. oh Inuyasha please… Any trace of coherent thought melted away as their lips finally met, barely touching, the heat of all the tension they had built up searing through them. Kagome felt like she was on fire. She had never thought kissing Inuyasha would feel like this. After all she had kissed him in his demon form once to stop his transformation; this was completely different. This was passion realized. Her body was no longer on fire it was ice being melted. Gods, I could die happy now… maybe I have died and gone to heaven- this can't be real. Inuyasha.. oh… Inuyasha!

Meanwhile Inuyasha's thoughts were somewhere along the line of… Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod!!! He was so going to get sat into the center of the earth for this one, but he had never imagined anything could ever make him feel so good and so close to death at the same time.

I told you didn't I- he could hear his demon side snickering. His human side begrudgingly admitted that the youkai was right about something for once.

Just as the both began to relax into the kiss, closing their eyes, a furry russet projectile launched itself towards them. It landed on Kagome's chest with practiced ease, knocking her over and sending Inuyasha reeling off balance to land on the hardest part of his body- his head.

“Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! We did it! Its over! We finally beat Naraku!” Shippou squealed at frequencies known to be particularly painful to a certain Inu-hanyou. “Ohmygodkagomeicantbelieveyoudidittherewasthatbigthingandiwassureyoua ndinuyashaweregonnagetblastedtobitsbutthenyoudidthatthingiewithyourbowandth etetsussaigaandicouldswearthatisawa….” His completely incoherent rant came to an abrupt halt when he realized that Kagome was blushing furiously and averting her eyes from him. Turning his head he saw Inuyasha was quite oppositely blushing in fury and glaring daggers that meant great deals of pain were about to come his way. Shippou gulped audibly. He didn't know what he'd done, but he knew enough to know that he was in some serious trouble, especially if Kagome didn't seem to care that Inuyasha was so angry. Using a tactic he knew to work almost without fail, he decided to take the path of self-preservation via Kagome. “Hey Inuyasha, did something happen between you and Kagome?” He asked innocently.

“What?! Wuh?…wuh?!” Inuyasha stuttered. Shippou just smirked- this battle was already over. “Of course not you moron! Why would you even think something happened? We just killed Naraku if you weren't paying attention and I was attending to Kagome's wounds.” By the time he realized he just royally fucked himself he was halfway to making a decent sized mass grave.

“INUYASHA…” Kagome seethed almost sweetly- but Inuyasha knew better. “SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT!” Kagome paused to take another breath to continue the humiliation when she noticed that Sango and Miroku were looking at her rather frightened. Even Shippou seemed taken aback at her unusually brutal display of violence. “Damnit Inuyasha why do you always have to screw everything up?!” She yelled furiously. Shoving Shippou off of her Kagome got to her feet and went to go pick up the Shikon no Tama. Stupid fucking jewel, she thought bitterly. “Now,” she announced, “I and going to the hot springs alone got it?” Everyone in the group hesitantly shook their heads in the affirmative and Inuyasha merely mumbled some incoherent jumble of words into the ground that most likely amounted to something like `whatever bitch.'

When Kagome was finally well out of view Inuyasha slowly pulled himself out of his crater using Tetsussaiga as a crutch and warily eyed the group of onlookers he considered friends… well usually considered friends. “Not a fucking word.” He growled. And with a red blur, he was gone.
