CHAPTER 7



The evening meal had been over for some time. Sesshomaru waited for Miroku to come out of the main house - after bidding his children a good night. He met the monk at the door.

"Good evening Miroku."

"Good evening Lord Sesshomaru, I thought perhaps we would take a walk and reminisce about old times."

"Hn."

The two friends continued down a path in silence for a while. Each lost in their own thoughts.

"Tell me Lord Sesshomaru, why did you act that way at dinner this evening?"

"What way?"

"Don't even try to play stupid with me - you know what I'm talking about - you and Kagome sparring?"

"Oh, that."

"Yeah, that. You've been complaining, ever since you saw her fight, about how you'd like to spar with her - I open up the sack for you and you go and get all demon lord on me."

"I am a demon lord."

"True, but you are also my friend. I wanted to make you happy so I lied to my cousin - Lied to her! Do you have any idea how incredibly hard that was? I've never lied to her - ever!"

"There's a first for everything."

"Will you stop it! Stop being so arrogant! You're not in public - you're with me - you can drop the high and mighty act!"

"Who's acting?"

"Ugh! You're impossible! You don't get it. Do you don't know how hard it was for Kagome to be there at dinner tonight? I had to demand her presence. I had to tell her that your father threatened to leave the retreat and never return or advice other lords to bring their business here, all because he thought it was insulting that the daughter of Onigumo and Kikyou couldn't even dine with him once."

"Why the hell would you tell her a thing like that?"

"Because it was the only way I could get her to a table - no a room - full of males."

"Does she have something against men?"

"Yes. Why do you think yo've barely seen her? The servant girls are also her friends, my children are like her children - she's always with them. Loving them, teaching them protecting them, because they no longer have a mother and she feels she needs to be their mother."

"I can understand why your cousin loves your children, I can also understand how she's friends with the women who are in her like daily. But why does she not like men?"

Miroku grew very silent. There were many things that Sesshomaru didn't know and he wasn't sure if discussing his cousin's personal life was such a good idea, even if it was with his best friend. Sesshomaru could tell his friend had become tense - but he wanted to know what happened in Kagome's life to make her act this way.

"Miroku?"

"Hai?"

"Something happened to Kagome?"

"Hai. There is much you do not know, and I'm not sure if I should..."

Sesshomaru looked at his friend. He saw the pain in his eyes, he knew he was being selfish, but he needed to know about Kagome and he was certain that she would never speak to him about it. He inhaled and let out a really deep sigh.

"Alright Miroku, if you won't tell me what happened to her, then perhaps you could solve a little mystery for me?"

"Um, ok?"

Who is Rin?"

"Ex-excuse me?"

"Rin - who is Rin? There was tombstone in the cemetery with the name Rin on it. There was no epitaph, just the name. So I was wondering who that was exactly."

"..."

"Miroku? Who is Rin?"

"... R-Rin was K-K-Kagome's daughter."

Sesshomaru was beside himself.

"Kagome's daughter?

"Hai."

"I didn't know she has a husband."

"She doesn't."

"Mate?"

"No."

"Ok, I'm not sure I follow..."

Miroku gave his friend a 'please don't ask any more questions' look, but he knew Sesshomaru would never let him drop the subject. He inhaled deeply and closed his eyes. He could already feel the beginnings of a migraine coming on.

"She doesn't have a husband or a mate."

"Yes, I know you said that already - did she have an affair?"

"No."

"No?"

"..."

"Miroku, what other options are left?"

"She - she - she was taken..."

"Taken? Taken where?"

"No - she was taken by force."






A/N I am sooooo sorry for the delay in updating. Life has a funny way of messing things up. I know this answers everyone's "Who is Rin?" question, but leaves more questions. I'm trying to get the next chapter out quickly 'cause it explains it a little better. Thanks to everyone who's reading and reviewing... I promise the next chapter will be out soon - like maybe later today or tomorrow. I swear!!!!! XD
