CHAPTER 9



Dawn had not completely surfaced, and Sesshomaru was but a few yards from the Goshinboku tree. He noticed Kagome was already there.

'She must've been there for sometime' he noted to himself, as he watched the girl fight an invisible enemy with her katana. She was light and quick on her feet. He watched as she held on to the sword as if to ready an attack. Sesshomaru was closing in on the girl - but did not want to startle her.

He was enjoying how she seemed to dance with the sword. Slowly he edged forward trying to remain undetected. He acted like a hunter stalking his prey - but Kagome's senses were beyond good. Sesshomaru had not even moved two feet away, from where he initially spotted her, when she felt him. With one quick turn she was looking dead at him - still holding the katana - as if to say "Come on - I dare you."

Sesshomaru inwardly groaned. He wanted to watch her and study her movements more. His pace quickened and in the blink of an eye he stood before the girl. Sesshomaru stood still as a statue as the girl eyed him up and down. She still wore a traditional kimono, but her hair was tied up and back. He still thought she looked quite beautiful.

Sesshomaru noticed the uneasy look in her eyes, but her face had the same emotionless state. She did not bow or greet him formally - she merely mumbled "shall we?"

Sesshomaru nodded and took his place opposite the girl. He readied his stance and drew his katana. He held it the same way as Kagome held hers, after all he had been trained by Master Myoga and knew his styles well. He looked at Kagome straight in the eyes.

"I've heard of your training so I want you to give me your all. Do. Not. Hold. Anything. Back."

Sesshomaru almost allowed a look of shock to pass over his face as he watched the girl's emotionless face twist into an almost sinister smile.

"I wasn't planning to."

Before Sesshomaru had time to blink, Kagome was running at him ready to charge.

"THWACK."

A loud thunder like sound shook the trees as Kagome brought down her sword full force only to be blocked by Sesshomaru. Their blades "clinked" together some more as they seemed to dance around for a few hours. Each opponent giving it their all, neither one relenting a single bit. Sesshomaru couldn't believe the strength that this young woman possessed. There were a few times that when she brought down her sword, he thought she'd actually knock him over. He also couldn't believe her stamina, they'd been going at it for few hours. The breakfast bell rang some time ago and she didn't even seem tired. She wasn't breathing hard, he hadn't noticed or smelled her sweating much.
He could almost swear she was holding back.

They continued the dance of katanas for another hour or so. They were so into their fighting that they hadn't noticed the small audience that gathered to watch the show. It began with Miroku, he was then joined by Kohaku. A few minutes later Lord InuTaisho joined the spectators along with his top warriors. Kagome and Sesshomaru continued their relentless dance, and eventually the observers lost interest or had other issues that demanded their attention.

They had misssed lunch as well. Sesshomaru knew that while he did not need to eat, Kagome certainly did. They had been going at each other, really all day and she wasn't giving off any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Sesshomaru was too proud to call it quits, or call a truce for that matter, and he knew that if he had even offered one Kagome would have refused, adamantly.

He decided this "dance" needed to end - and the only way was to be sneaky ( A/N yes I know, so not his style). He shifted their positions back and forth as he kept one eye on her sword and the other on her feet. Another fifteen minutes passed before his opportunity arose. As they switched positions again, he quickly stuck out a foot when she shifted her eyes to his waist. (A/N okay you hentai's out there - it was to watch him for his position switching - not for watching his AHEM... you know what I'm talking about).

Kagome was caught off guard completely and stumbled to the ground face first, before she could correct her stance.

"Do you yield?"

Kagome was silent for a few moments, Sesshomaru could smell her change in emotions, even if her face didn't betray a thing, and she was pissed. He couldn't help but smile as he tormented her a bit more.

"Do you yield?"

That time he heard a deep sigh and a muffled "yes". He backed away and sheathed his sword as he watched her turn on her back. Always the gentleman, Sesshomaru offered Kagome his hand - but she just glared at him and in one simple move she was on her feet sheathing her sword.

The young demon lord sensed her anger subsiding, and decided that it was now ok to engage in a conversation with the young ningen woman.

"You are very skilled."

"And you are very SNEAKY!"

"The fight had to end sometime."

"Then why not fight until only the victor remained - in a noble way - not like some sneak thief!"

"When fighting one should be prepared for anything. I'm sure of all the lessons you've learned from Master Myoga, that is the most important."

Kagome stood silent for a moment, almost lost in thought, then finally she spoke again.

"Why didn't you call a truce?"

"Would you have agreed to one?"

Her silence was all the answer he needed.

"How about a rematch?"

He studied the girl's face. He watched as her eyes lit up and a small smile graced her lips.

"Hai."

"Ok? When?"

"Tomorrow, same time, same place."

Before Sesshomaru could respond, Kagome sprinted off towards the main house. He let out a small chuckle as he watched her jog away. "Till tomorrow" he said to himself and then set off for the bath house to relax his aching muscles.





A/N: I am so sorry for not updating!! Really I am, I guess I should have paid my internet bill on time... Any way I've decided to make up my lack of updating so you'll get 2 chapters today!!!
