Chapter Thirteen:

Ming Lo and Ming Cho sat side by side across from the spider hanyou. They hated half breeds. Even more, they hated Japanese half breeds. However, this creature had intrigued them.

Both female fox spirits were beautiful. Twins, they both had the same long, reddish brown hair and deep emerald green eyes. Their clothing spoke of the latest style of Japan. Beautiful kimonos made of the finest silk. They considered themselves the sun and the moon of their kingdom.

Naraku smiled. "I see you are enjoying the fine gifts I have given you," he whispered.

Lo snorted, "These kimonos are nothing compared to what we get at home."

"I will not disagree with you," he told her. He picked up the gun and threw it at their feet. "This is a disgrace, however. The gun did not do it's job."

Cho rolled her eyes. "You are wrong, hanyou. It did do it's job," she growled. "It is not our fault if the wolf was able to heal himself."

Naraku shook his head. "There is no way he would've been able to. Not with my miasma."

"You put too much faith in your abilities, half breed," Lo responded. "You are not talking of one of your own. You are talking of a youkai prince. Someone far stronger than your kind."

The spider gave a half smile. "Remember, my lady, it was one of 'my kind' who destroyed Menomaru."

"Do you mock us?!" she demanded, standing up and stamping her foot.

Naraku raised a single hand to placate the fox. He shook his head again. "I mean no disrespect," he assured her. "I was merely pointing out that some of us hanyou are quite powerful. Manomaru made the mistake of underestimating a hanyou."

The fox spirit sat back down. "You are correct, Naraku," she agreed. "We will not make that same mistake."

"Good," he whispered. He looked at the gun and thought about it for a moment. Though the gun had not killed Koga, it had managed to severly damage him. Perhaps Naraku hadn't put in enough miasma.

Then, the spider demon thought of the girl named Kagome. He knew she possessed strong spiritual power. He also knew she carried the completed Shikon no Tama, his main goal. It was possible that she was able to fully heal the wolf prince. She had, after all, purified the miasma within Kikyo, bringing the dead priestess back to life.

"The priestess protects herself with powerful allies," he spoke up. "She will not be easily defeated."

"Rumour has it she's become the Demon Priestess," Cho added. "If that's true, then we are, indeed facing a powerful foe."

Naraku snorted, "We don't have much to worry about from her. She's a human, therefore, nothing more than a nuisance."

"Who's underestimating now, Naraku?" Lo asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Kanna!" the spider demon called.

The demon child came to him. Naraku looked at her. "Go out and find the Demon Priestess. Learn for me what her strengths and weaknesses are," he ordered.

Lo and Cho smiled.

"Look, I know Naraku is a terrible creature. And I know he's powerful. But, if we don't unite now, he could destroy us all," Kagome said to the crowd.

This was the fourth village the companions had come to. Each village had been the same. Scared of coming to the companions aid. They feared Naraku's wrath.

The village leader spoke up, "We don't have the manpower to help you. If Naraku comes..."

"If Naraku comes, you'll be dead," Inuyasha interrupted. "Don't be stupid. We're not asking you to send in your elderly or children."

"Inuyasha," Kagome warned. She then turned to the crowd. "Anything you can do for us would be most helpful. We would appreciate anything."

"Including the pleasurable company of all your fair maidens," Miroku added without thinking.

Sango hit him on the head with her Hirokotsu. "Pervert," she growled.

Kagome reprimanded the monk, "This is no time to be a hentai, Miroku. We have more important things to worry about." She addressed the crowd once again. "Will you help us?"

The leader sighed, "We are but a small farming village. We don't have much to offer. However, should you and your companions need a place to sleep, or a hot meal, we will gladly provide it. That is all we can give."

"We appreciate that," Kagome told him. She stepped off of the platform and smiled at her companions. She slipped her hand through Inuyasha's arm. "See? And we didn't even have to yell," she teased.

The hanyou snorted, but said nothing. He knew she could get the villagers to help out. Especially after she healed the village's priest and five children. There was no way they would turn her down.

"I'm going to go take a bath," he told his companions. "We should all do so."

Kagome couldn't have agreed more.
