Chapter Fourteen:

Kagome watched Inuyasha leave. The memory of Koga's near death still rattled in her mind. What if that had been Inuyasha? What if she hadn't been able to save him? She had gotten lucky with Koga, but her powers were still very new to her. She still wasn't sure she knew what to do with them nor how to control them.

The idea of losing Inuyasha was more than the miko could bear. She dived into her backpack and took out the heavy tome. She quickly flipped to the page and the words she knew all too well. She searched for something, anything that would help her protect Inuyasha.

"According to legend, her companion and lover was a hanyou who weilded a great sword. Her closest friends included a monk and a demonslayer and she adopted a small kitsune demon.

"Unfortunately, a great battle ensued that almost cost her her life as well as those she kept close to her heart. After the battle, she disappeared and was never heard of again."

Lover was a companion? According to the book. she and Inuyasha were lovers. If that were the case, did that mean she and Inuyasha were supposed to make love? She nearly scoffed at the absurd notion. Then, she thought about it.

"Miroku?" she called.

The monk, who had been about to join the hanyou, stopped and turned to look at the priestess. He knew by her mystified expression and by the fact she held the book, she needed to talk to him. Miroku glanced back the way Inuyasha had gone and sighed. So much for a bath. He walked up to the priestess. "Yes, Kagome?" he answered.

She motioned for him to join her. Once he did, she placed the book in his lap and pointed to the quote. "What exactly does this mean?" she asked him. "Is something supposed to happen between Inuyasha and I?"

The monk was perplexed. He knew what she meant, but it was one thing he never wanted to discuss with Kagome. The hanyou was going to have his head. He read over the script, which basically spoke of Kagome having a hanyou companion and lover.

"I honestly don't know, Kagome," he answered. "This book talks about a real even that is shrouded in legend. You can't expect all of it to be true. Perhaps something does happen between you and Inuyasha. Perhaps it doesn't. I guess the real answer lies in whether or not you're willing to take your relationship to the next level."

Kagome sighed, "Inuyasha wants to... He hasn't said it, but I can tell. And my mother thinks we are already at that level... Tell me, Miroku, does making love to someone make you closer? Does it help you to control your power?"

"That's two completely different questions with two different answers," he informed her. "I've heard that when a woman is with a man, her bond to him becomes much stronger. As for control, it has nothing to do with what happens in the depths of night. Control takes practice and discipline. Don't rely on a night with the hanyou to teach you these things. That would be foolhardy and could have the opposite results."

"What do you mean?"

Miroku really didn't like this conversation. It wasn't what he would consider an "appropriate" conversation. Course, he never really had problems talking to girls about sex, just... not Kagome. But, he knew she would press the question, so he answered, "When a woman makes love, she becomes more emotional. Emotion has a counteraffect on discipline. Emotion can affect your control. Ever heard the phrase, 'don't let emotions control what you do'? This is what they are referring to. Emotions can be as deadly as they are good. Especially if what you are feeling are negative emotions.

"Let's take Sango and myself for a moment. If something were to happen to Sango, I think I would go crazy. This could turn me into a very dangerous person..."

Kagome cracked a smile. "But, you already are a dangerous person. You carry the Wind Tunnel."

The monk wasn't smiling. He looked at the miko seriously. "Listen to me, Kagome," he commanded. He took her by the shoulders and looked her dead in the eyes. "Emotions can cause you to do things you wouldn't normally do. They can turn a coward into a hero and vice versa. They can turn the most righteous man into a murderer. Emotions can be dangerous allies."

So, basically, what he was saying was she needed to learn to control her emotions as well as her powers. She would need lots of practice and self-discipline. She remembered what the monk said about bonding. How a woman bonds with the man she makes love to. "If Inuyasha and I were bound..." she said, changing the subject, "would that mean I would know if he's in trouble or injured?"

Now Miroku understood why she had started this conversation. She wanted to find a way to protect Inuyasha. He hadn't been there when she had healed Koga, but he had seen the profound effect it had had on her. "Women have a natural intuition that is quite powerful in it's own right," he answered after much thought. "I would assume that once you and Inuyasha were bound, you'd know more about him than you probably wanted to know."

She smiled at his small attempt at humour. He was right. He had to be right. If she and Inuyasha were to be together, then they would be bound and she would be able to keep him from harm. Satisfied, she stood up and kissed the monk on the forehead. "Thank you, Miroku," she said. "I'm going to see Inuyasha. Don't follow me."

Miroku's cheeks turned red as Sango approached him. "What was that all about?" the demonslayer inquired curiously.

The monk was speechless. He just shook his head. Kagome had never kissed him on the forehead before.

~~~
Kagome was nervous as she peered through the bush. She blushed when she saw Inuyasha's naked form halfway in the pool. She couldn't believe she was going to go through with this. She quietly undressed and wrapped herself up in a towel. She peeked out again.
He was just sitting there, head tilted back, eyes closed. Relaxed. He was going to be quite surprised, she thought. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and stepped out into the clearing.
~~~

Inuyasha usually didn't suggest baths, but as he eased down into the cool water, he was glad he did. It wasn't often the hanyou liked to bathe, but today was different. They had been traveling for a while now, going from town to town, searching for those who would stand with them against Naraku.

They still hadn't a clue what Naraku was planning, but they knew it involved guns. Guns that were designed to kill youkai. That, in itself, was enough to cause worry and fear to ripple through even the stout hearted.

Even as Inuyasha began to bathe, he knew his brother was headed back to the Western Lands. Sesshomaru had agreed to find those in his region who would help. Inuyasha felt this a good thing. It meant less places he had to go.

The hanyou closed his eyes as he let the water soak into his hair. Ahhh.. this felt good. He tilted his head back and reveled in the delight of the water flowing around his body.

His nose smelled her before he opened his eyes. He gazed up at her silhouetted figure. "Kagome?" he whispered, swallowing a lump that had suddenly caught in his throat.

She was wearing nothing save a towel wrapped around her form. Her long, black hair billowed about her shoulders and down her back. Deep, blue eyes gazed back at him and she smiled. "I thought you could use some company," she replied as she stepped into the pool.

She unwrapped her towel and placed it on the bank. She then continued to walk towards him. Again, Inuyasha gulped. His eyes widened. "Wha.. What are you doing?" he stuttered.

She touched his jawbone and gently kissed him on the lips. "Something I should've done a long time ago," she answered seductively.

She kissed him again and this time, he returned her kiss with fever. It was a dream, he thought as he wrapped his arms around her naked body. It had to be a dream.

Kagome moaned and Inuyasha lost it. He pressed her against the stony wall and slid his hands along her legs. He brought her legs around his waist and began moving his hands upwards along her thighs and her waist. He pressed the tip of his manhood against her thigh and growled.

Kagome hesitated. She knew she shouldn't do this, but her heart kept whispering for her to continue. She had dreamed of this moment, but never imagined it would happen.

Inuyasha could sense her hesitance, her fear. He broke the kiss and gazed into her eyes. "Are you ok?" he asked huskily.

Her mind screamed to her. Just do it! What's your problem? What are you waiting for? Tears filled her eyes as she mouthed, "I'm scared."

He gently brushed back the pink lock of her hair. "I am, too," he admitted. Then, he assured her, "I would never do anything to hurt you. If you ask it, I will stop."

She shook her head. "I don't want you to stop," she told him. "I'm just being silly, that's all. I'm nervous. I've never been with anyone before and I know that, for women, the first time always hurts."

He looked at her curiously. Was that true? He didn't want to hurt her. Didn't want their first time to be a painful memory.

Keeping her legs wrapped around his body, she turned so that his back pressed against the stony wall. She kissed him and then breathed onto his lips, "Let me guide you, Inuyasha."

With that, she reached into the water and touched his cock. The feel of her small, delicate fingers sliding along his length sent shockwaves through his body. The hanyou gasped before she covered his mouth with her own.

Kagome had never been more nervous as she guided his head to her opening. She felt him eagerly buck his tip brushed against her hole. The miko let go of him and closed her eyes. It was time to let instinct take over. And it did. He entered her with one quick, gentle shove. She threw her head back and gasped at the pain. She could feel Inuyasha's lips on her neck as he filled her up.

Inuyasha had never known what heaven could be like. Never believed he would ever experience it. He kissed her neck as his mind filled with awe. So, this is what heaven is like? he thought to himself as her body adjusted to him.

On instinct alone, he slowly began to pull out before thrusting himself back in. The water was suddenly much warmer. He turned around so that she was back against the wall and began to slowly thrust into her. For them, time stood still. The power of their lovemaking brought joy and pleasure to them both.

"Inuyasha," Kagome breathed between gasps.

To the hanyou, nothing sounded sweeter. Heaven couldn't be much better than this. Then, the instinctual need to make her his took over. He closed his eyes and nipped at her neck as he began thrusting harder, faster.

Kagome grabbed onto him. Her nails dug deep into his back as she fought to hold on. She felt his teeth sink into her neck as fireworks exploded in her brain.

Inuyasha growled possessively as he filled her with his seed. Her blood dripped from the wound he had created with his fangs. There, where her shoulder met her neck, was proof that she belonged to him and no one else.

They held each other, suspended in the threads of time. Neither moved, neither opened their eyes. Never had they experienced such profound love. Together, they truly were in heaven.

~~~
Kagome pressed her back against Inuyasha's chest as they sat in the cool water. She lifted her foot and began cleaning it with her rag. The hanyou watched in amazement as she bathed herself.
Unable to keep it to himself anymore, he blurted, "Why did you come here?"
She thought about it for a moment. "I'm not entirely sure," she answered after a brief pause.
Well, that wasn't the answer he was looking for. "What do you mean, 'not entirely sure'? You had to know what was going to happen. I thought you wanted to wait or something," he growled.
"I did," she responded, honestly. "And then something tugged at me. Remember when Koga had gotten shot and almost died? I had a nightmare where the one who had gotten shot had been you. It made me realize just how fragile life really is. This war is going to be the likes of which no one has ever seen. There's no guarantee that we'll survive. I don't want to be the girl who waited for love until it was too late."
"Yeah, but," Inuyasha argued, "what if you end up pregnant? I got rid of those condom things."
She shrugged. "If I end up pregnant, I'll bring the child back to my own time. That way, Naraku can't get his slimey hands on it."
He wrapped his arms around her body and held her close. It amazed him how perfect their bodies melded together. He kissed her shoulder and whispered in her ear, "You don't have to worry about me. Those bullets won't harm me."
"That's where you are wrong, Inuyasha," the priestess said, breaking away from him and his hold. Worry etched her face as she turned to look at him. "You didn't see what that bullet did to Koga. He almost died because of it. And he would've died had I not shown up in time."
"But, you will be there..."
"How do you know?" she demanded, a little louder than she meant. She quickly toned her voice down. "You don't know that, Inuyasha. There's no telling what will happen during this war."
"But the book says that you live," he argued.
She shook her head. "No, it does not," she countered. "The book says I disappear. Whether I live or die is not mentioned. Besides, we aren't talking about me. We are talking about you."
He quickly embraced her. "It does not matter what happens to me," he told her. "As long as you survive."
She pushed herself away from him. "No, Inuyasha! You're wrong!" She looked into his golden eyes. "Don't you see? Everything I've done, I've done for you. So you could live! You wanted the jewel shards to become a full demon. I helped you scour the country to find them. You wanted to be with Kikyo. I stepped to the side and let you have her. Everything, Inuyasha. Every choice, every thought, every single little thing. No matter how much it hurt me, I've done it. For you. Because I love you."
The words rang in his head. They screamed in his heart and peirced his soul. He thought about what she had said and realized how true her words were. She had even stood by his side as he fought Sesshomaru over Tetsusaiga. It was then he realized how much their lives were intertwined with one another. She was more then Kikyo could've ever been.
He knew Kagome was it for him. He would never find another woman to measure up to her standards. And, honestly, he didn't want to find another. He wanted to be with her until he grew old and whithered. Long after she died, she would still be deeply grounded into his heart. He would never love another. For the first time, Inuyasha felt accepted and... alive.
"Even when taking a bath, you both fight," the voice of the kitsune carried above their heads causing the moment to dissipate with the flowing water.
Shippo stood atop the rock and was completely nude. He grinned and waved at them before jumping into the water. Cool water splashed over Inuyasha and Kagome's hair.
Inuyasha raised an eyebrow as the kitsune came up for air. "And just what do you think you are doing?" he asked.
Shippo splashed the half demon. "Lighten up, Inuyasha. I have to bathe too, you know."
"Where's Miroku and Sango?" Kagome asked, a little embarrassed to be caught bathing with Inuyasha.
It was Shippo's turn to be embarrassed. "I went to ask Sango if she'd bathe with me, but she and Miroku were kissing and I couldn't bother them," he explained.
Inuyasha huffed, "So, you thought you'd disturb us? What if we had been kissing? We are a couple, you know."
"You weren't kissing," Shippo pointed out. "You were fighting. Something about a book and you living. I have to agree with Kagome, though. She does do everything for you."
Kagome gasped. He had heard that much? How embarrassing!
Inuyasha growled as Shippo continued to splash water everywhere. Not liking where the conversation was going and getting splashed persistantly, Kagome decided to change the subject. She reached over, picked Shippo up, and dropped him into the water.
The kitsune came up, sputtering. He looked at her with surprise. "What did you do that for?" he asked. She just giggled.
Inuyasha snorted, "You deserved it."
"Oh yeah?!" Shippo yelled. He dived under the water and went for Inuyasha's legs. He grabbed one and tugged on it, causing the hanyou to lose his balance and fall backwards into the water. Shippo and Kagome laughed.
Inuyasha looked at them both. "So, you think that's funny?" he growled. Without warning, he grabbed Kagome and pulled her with him. Then, he grabbed Shippo's tail and pulled the kitsune under water.
"No, Inuyasha!" Kagome shrieked as she was dragged under with the hanyou. When she came back up, she splashed Inuyasha with water. Before they knew it, all three were splashing and dunking one another.
~~~

Shippo smiled as he watched Kagome tuck him into bed. "Kagome?" he said softly to her. "I had a lot of fun tonight. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was back with my parents. Thank you for letting me join you and Inuyasha."

Kagome's heart clenched as she touched the kitsune's forehead. Like a family, he had meant to say. For the first time since his parents died, he felt as if he were part of a family. That jerked Kagome's heart more than anything else could have.

She kissed the kitsune on the cheek and bid him goodnight. She checked the room one last time to ensure it was safe before she walked out to join the others.

~~~
Kagome walked back into the general room and looked at her friends. She knew Miroku and Sango wre a couple, but right now, they didn't act like one. The priestess assumed it had something to do with the girl who had waited on them. Miroku was such a predictable lecher.
Deciding to join them, the priestess stepped within the circle of friends and eased herself into Inuyasha's lap. She felt his hand slide around her waist and rest at her belly. She sighed in comfort.
Miroku observed the happy couple. He knew what had happened between those two and he silently wished the same would happen with him and Sango. He threw the demonslayer a smile. "Sango, would you like to sit in my lap?" he asked.
"After you asked that girl to bear your children?!" she demanded. "I'd rather sit on pins!"
"I didn't mean it," the monk insisted. "It accidently came out. I suppose I'm so used to saying it..."
"Just like you're so used to sleeping alone?" she asked sweetly. "Because that's what you'll be doing."
Kagome hated it when those two fought. Especially when she was in such a peaceful, good mood. She glanced up at Inuyasha and kissed his chin. "I guess we are going to another village tomorrow?" she asked him.
Inuyasha just grunted.
Oh, how Kagome hated it when they fought while she was in a good mood. She stood up and put her hands on her hips. She shot daggar eyes at the monk and demonslayer, who were still bickering. She yelled, "You two need to stop it. Don't you realize that we don't need to be fighting right now? What we should be doing instead is deciding where we are going next!"
They stared at her in disbelief. Sango stuttered, "But..."
Kagome turned to Inuyasha and demanded, "What's the next village?"
The hanyou raised an eyebrow. It amazed him how quickly she changed moods. He briefly wondered what would happen if he suddenly got up and kissed her sensiless. Knowing his luck, she'd probably "sit" him. "A village of samurai," he answered, instead.
"Thank you," she said before returning to her spot on Inuyasha's lap. She waved a nonchalant hand to the monk. "What are our chances of getting the samurai to fight for us?"
Now Inuyasha was pissed. He jumped, dropping her. "You can't just yell at me and then act all nice again!" he shouted.
"Inuyasha," she whispered sweetly. The hanyou paled the moment he realized his mistake. Kagome screamed, "SIT!"
Inuyasha closed his eyes and waited to feel his face against the wooden floor.... He blinked and opened his eyes. Everyone stood dumbfounded. Nothing had happened...
