~Hey Dad~

Kagome took out a piece of paper. ‘Why does Mamma make me and Sota do this?’ she asked herself, taking out her favorite black pen. "What do I say?", she asked no one, not wanting an answer.

~I’m writing to you~

"Now what are you doing!?", Inu-Yasha asked from outside Kagome’s open window.
"Inu-Yasha!", Kagome replied in surprise as he came in.

~Not to tell you, that I still hate you. ~

He came in and sniffed. "What’s that smell?", he asked covering his sensitive doggy nose.
"It’s vanilla", Kagome said simply, motioning to the candle that sat on her desk, paper and pen sitting beside it.(A.N./My favorite!)Inu-Yasha removed his hands from his nose.

~Just to ask you how you feel. ~

"No, that’s pretty it’s...", he walked over to the desk and picked up the pen.

"It’s the ink again, gomen Inu-Yasha--Wait! Did you just say my candle was pretty?", Kagome asked bewildered. Inu-Yasha nodded, then jumped on Kagome’s desk.

~And how we fell apart, how we fell apart? ~

Kagome smiled. "Okay, would you give me a second?", she asked, and Inu-Yasha reluctantly nodded.

"What do you have to do now?", he asked as Kagome took her pen and paper and sat on her bed.

~Are you happy out there in this great, wide world? ~

"I have to send my dad a letter, so does Sota", she said simply.

"You have a dad?", Inu-Yasha asked and Kagome nodded.

~Do you think about your sons? Do you miss your little girl? ~

"He never writes back though. My mom makes us send a letter to him once and a while. Sota still thinks he’ll come back one day...", she huffed and her eyes flashed, and Inu-Yasha recoiled.

~When you lay your head down, how do you sleep at night?~

Inu-Yasha was still curious though. "What happened to him?", he asked.

Kagome sighed, "He left us when we were younger. Haven't seen him in years..." Inuyasha’s dog-ears twitched.

~Do you even wonder if we’re alright? ~

"Do you hate him?", Inu-Yasha asked.

"I wouldn’t if he would at least say hi once and a while", she replied simply with a huff to her voice. She started at the paper, "What should I write?"

~We’re alright, we’re alright. ~

"Say hello?", Inu-Yasha offered.

"Hello Dad, it’s Kagome", she read as she wrote.

~It’s been a long, hard road without you by my side, why weren't you there all the nights that we cried? ~

Inu-Yasha thought for a second, looking up at the ceiling. "Why did he leave exactly?", he asked as Kagome wrote another sentence.

"He got into some fight with my mother before he left. After he left, my mom’s dad moved in."

~You broke my mother’s heart you broke your children for life. ~

"What’s next?", she asked.

"Do you know why exactly?", Inu-Yasha asked. Kagome shook her head.

"Ask him that!", Inu-Yasha said, folding his arms.

~It’s not okay, but we’re alright.~

Kagome started at him. "I can’t say that!", she screeched. Inu-Yasha shrugged.

"It’s worth a try". Kagome bit down on her bottom lip. She nodded and wrote that.

~I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes, but that’s just a long lost memory of mine. ~

Inu-Yasha thought carefully afterwards. "Why doesn’t he ever write back?"

"Inu-Yasha, it’s common decency to not ask so many questions", she told him.

"It’s your father, you have a right to know", he said wisely as his dog-ears twitched from the singing birds outside.

~ I spent so many years learning how to survive, now I’m writing just to let you know I’m still alive. ~

Kagome sighed as she wrote that. "Why, he could not even want to tell me or he doesn’t care, besides, it’s most likely he doesn’t even read this.", she said when she finished.

~ The days I spent, so cold, so hungry were full of hate, I was so angry, the scars run deep inside this tattooed body, there’s thing I’ll take to my grave, but I’m okay, I’m okay. ~

"How would you know?", Inu-Yasha asked after a couple minutes.

"Maybe he just hates us!", she called, ending the small argument, hoping to win and the hanyou’s ears twitched again.

~It’s been a long hard road without you by my side, why weren’t you there all the nights that we cried?~

There was a silence. "Who could ever hate you?", Inu-Yasha asked, and Kagome started at him in disbelieve.

"But...I thought you hated me?, she asked him.

Inu-Yasha replied with, "Feh! That was when I thought you were Kikyou.", Kagome smiled and kept it at that. She smiled and continued.

~You broke my mother’s heart you broke your children for life, it’s not okay, but we’re alright. ~

"Okay, now what?", she asked when she finished and went onto a third page. Inu-Yasha blinked as she still wrote.

"What are you writing about, anyway?", she asked. Kagome smiled,

"My friends and school, why?", Inu-Yasha didn’t answer.

~I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes, but that’s just a long lost memory of mine. Now I’m writing just to let you know I’m still alive, I’m still alive.~

"Okay, what next?", she asked, feeling much more cheerful.

Inu-Yasha thought, "Ask him what he’s been doing?", he said, and Kagome didn’t object.

~And sometimes, I forgive, yeah and this time, I’ll admit. ~

"And?", Kagome asked when she finished that part. She quickly turned to see her brand new candle half spent already.

"Tell him you miss him".

~That I miss you, said I miss you.~

Kagome looked at him in surprise. Inu-Yasha started back. "What?", he asked. Kagome then understood.

"Is this everything that you’d tell your mother and father?", she asked, but he didn’t respond. Kagome smiled and wrote.

~It’s been a long hard road without you by my side why weren’t you there all the nights that we cried? ~

Kagome smiled, "Think that’s enough?", she asked holding up the three full papers, front and back full of her tiny writing.

Inu-Yasha nodded, "Let’s go shard hunting now"***

~You broke my mother’s heart you broke your children for life.~

3 weeks later, Kagome came home from a long shard hunt. "Kagome, you have a letter!", Sota called when she came inside. She blinked. it was from her father.

"KAGOME!", Inu-Yasha yelled from the well. Kagome ran outside to him and he folded his arms as he emerged from the well house. "Why didn’t you stay-What’s that?", he asked, seeing Kagome’s blank face and the letter. it’s not okay, but we’re alright. He understood, and steered her to the stone bench under the Goshinbuku. "Well, what did he say?", she looked up at him in fear, and heard a bird start to sing. She swallowed, held up the letter with a shaky hand and began to read:

~ I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes. ~

"Dear Kagome, I’m sorry I haven't written before. I meant to, but I’ve been busy.(A.N./Stan comeback) I’m writing a novel and your letter inspired me, thank you so much. Now, about this Inu-Yasha... *Inu-Yasha growled* don’t be too mad at him. Getting over someone is hard. Just give him time to show himself. *He stopped at this* Sango? She sounds really nice, and she’s most likely a great friend. Shippou? Cute name, probably a cute little kid, huh? And please stay away from those Miroku and Kouga people. Feel free to threaten them with me when they bother you. Maybe even use Inu-Yasha. *Inu-Yasha did nothing at this* So why do you now actually write me a letter? You’re probably made at me, I don’t blame you, I’m sorry, you’re mother and I just needed time alone. I still love you and Sota, I hope you won’t hate me, but that’s up to you. I’ve been writing, like I said. Look for my new book soon, I know your mother will. I miss you too Kagome, love you. Your father. P.S. Send more letters like that one more often. P.S.S. Stay around Inu-Yasha, he sound like a pretty nice person that really needs you", Kagome finished with tears in her eyes.

~But those are just a long lost memory of mine.~

She broke down and fell into Inuyasha’s chest.

~ Now I’m writing just to let you know I’m still alive.~

He didn’t know how to react.

~And sometimes, I forgive. ~

He lay his head on Kagome’s and started to rub her back.

~Yeah, this time, I’ll admit. ~

She sat, and wiped her eyes.

~That I’ll miss you, ~

Inu-Yasha smiled at her encouragingly.

~Said I miss you. ~

He leaned in and they shared a long passionate kiss, Sota and Kagome’s mother looking on smiling, her grandfather with crossed arms, mad to have to look after another ‘hoodlum’.

~Hey Dad...~
