Chapter 21: Lament of Innocence
Morning. Still storming. Horrible thoughts flooding his head. Inuyasha was not in a good mood. He sat up from the bed and gazed at the clock. Eleven . . . eleven o' one . . . eleven o' two. He watched the clock for twenty minutes, just waiting for the digital time to flash over to the next minute. Kagome shifted underneath his embrace and he loosened his grip slightly so she could stretch or move in to a more comfortable position. She rolled over and opened her eyes to see him staring at her. She smiled to him and he returned the gesture.
Neither knew what to say, because in mere hours, one could be taken away from the other forever. Whether it be Kagome to Kikyou's sinister ploy, or Inuyasha to the stupid plan he was involved in. Inuyasha longed to hold her, but was afraid he couldn't let go when the time came. Kagome longed to touch him, but was afraid he would disappear. The minutes crawled by like years, in silence. Finally Inuyasha got out of bed, opting for silence in the living room rather than in the bedroom. At least if he was alone, he wouldn't be so sad. Or would being alone make the sadness he felt stronger? He didn't know.
Kagome watched him walk out of the room. Partially glad that he had done so. She didn't have the strength to leave him, but had even less strength to actually talk to him. She decided a hot bath was appropriate and walked into the master bedrooms personal bath. Most of the bath items were put away, the necessities like the shampoo, conditioner, soap etc. . . but she would have to do without the bath beads and aroma therapy capsules.
She sank gently into the tub and closed her eyes, not wanting to look around the pale blue room. When her eyes were closed, all she could see was Inuyasha, and what he had to do. Her eyes snapped open and she decided staring at the blank, undecorated room, was better than seeing her love risk his life.
Inuyasha had a similar dilemma in the living room. For the most part things weren't put away and boxes lay strewn across the floor, some empty, some filled with books and knick-knacks. He tried to keep himself distracted, but nearly every box had 'Kagome' written all over it. 'Kagome's CDS' 'Kagome's Pictures' 'Kagome's Movies'. He didn't want to die, he prayed that he would come out of this plan unscathed, though the chances were slim to none.

"Okay one more time, just for my head." Sesshomaru said.
Nyoko yawned loudly, they had been up all night going over every angle and every detail of the plan that could possibly be gone over. "Don't you think we should get some sleep?"
"No. I think we need to make sure this goes smoothly. Don't tell him I like him or anything, but I don't want to see my brother die." he gazed seriously at Nyoko.
"Fine . . . fine. So Inuyasha" she yawned again, "Gomen. Inuyasha sees you about to kill Kagome and attacks you, but Kagome is already dead. Then he mopes about how he has nothing to live for and says he'll go to hell with Kikyou. Then Kikyou opens the hole to hell and Inuyasha prepares to go with her, but he jumps out of the way in time to live and she goes to hell alone, hopefully for good. But before that, to get Kagome's soul back, I will place a curse on her that drains her of her spiritual being, AKA the soul, and Kagome will be alive, hiding somewhere, and she will receive her soul. Life is happy and everything works out fine." Nyoko yawned once again and Sesshomaru nodded.
"As long as Inuyasha can get out of the hole before she pulls him under, than everything will be fine." Sesshomaru sighed heavily, "What are the chances that he can get out of there without dying?" Nyoko looked at him, a painful expression on her face.
"He" she couldn't say it.
"He is going to die today. Isn't he?" Nyoko hesitantly nodded. Sesshomaru exhaled loudly, "You can go to sleep. I know you are tired."
~*§¤*~
"Okay Kagome. Nyoko just informed me that she saw Kikyou, she is on her way. This is it. Are you ready?" Kagome nodded, about to cry. She hadn't spoken to Inuyasha all day. He spent most of the day locked in his 'soon to be' office, she spent the day sitting outside in the rain.
Inuyasha walked out of the house, Kagome looked over to him and for a brief moment the world stopped. The rain didn't fall, but rather froze in place, the trees stopped swaying to the demands of the harsh winds, nothing existed but the couple. Kagome looked away, breaking the trance, the rain continued to pour, the trees became violent again. Inuyasha turned and walked back into the house, waiting for his cue.
"Okay, I smell her." Sesshomaru said. It was hard to detect her with the storm blowing all the senses out of the way. "Kagome must die!" he began freaking out and attacking with his poisonous claws. Kagome actually seemed afraid of him for a second. She dodged his attacks and jumped around so that he couldn't hit her, not that he was actually trying to. He saw Kikyou out of the corner or his eye and screamed, signaling Inuyasha, Inuyasha ran out of the house.
"Leave her alone!" he screamed.
"Stay out of this half-breed." Sesshomaru hollered back.
"I said leave Kagome alone!" he ran up to Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru then did the best acting he could muster and pretended to stab Kagome with his poisonous claws. Kagome faked a fall to the ground and he picked her up, tossing her behind some tree so she could safely hide.
"Noooooo." Inuyasha screamed. He felt very foolish acting this scene out, but it had to be done. He crumbled to the ground and sulked in silence. Meanwhile Nyoko was watching from the upstairs bathroom window, to keep a close eye on things. She saw Kagome sit up and breathe heavily, she seemed to be crying, though it was hard to tell with all the rain. She watched Inuyasha fake his sad 'Kagome is dead' scene and she saw Sesshomaru look on as though he could care less.
Then she saw Kikyou, waltzing up the street. She looked to Sesshomaru and smiled. "Well done. You've managed to kill the wench."
"It was easy. Nyoko was the challenging one, since she was a demon." he stated.
"Well, good job." Kikyou didn't seem to care about the details. She looked down at Inuyasha who was still on the ground, grumbling with anger and sadness.
"Inuyasha, you could have stopped this." she said almost mockingly. " Now will you come to hell with me?" he tried not to stand up and punch her. He did stand up however and look at her with sad eyes.
"Yes Kikyou. I have nothing left here." Kikyou smiled and hugged him to her. He saw Kagome's head peak around the oak tree and he mouthed 'I love you' to her. She began to cry again, mouthing the same words back to him.
Upstairs Nyoko was chanting the curse that would give Kagome the rest of her soul back. "Ikta ca na ish a shann na naa ostiaku ona aa atsuway atsuway yama ka ka a ryou no hiro meki. Ikta, Ikta, IKTA!" The wind stopped dead in its tracks. The rain stopped pouring and out from the sun burst a light brighter than any that had ever shone before. Kikyou flailed backwards, her face exposed to the sky, a pink light escaping from her being. Inuyasha tried to release her, but he couldn't, he felt as though she were part of him. He looked away, trying to shield his eyes from the magnificent light. Sesshomaru put his hand up to his face, as though blocking out a ray of sunshine. Kagome's mouth gaped open as she saw the light escape from Kikyou, then she felt herself receiving a strong aura. It was her very soul, returning to her. The piece that had always been missing, now reclaimed. Kagome floated in the air momentarily and then softly glided back down to earth. Her breathing grew rapid as she actually began to breath again. Kikyou stood upright again, the light having disappeared. Nyoko smiled that the incantation worked, and Sesshomaru tried his best not to be happy about this.
"What happened?" Kikyou asked. She felt weak and didn't know what was happening. She felt as though she were lost. The rain began to fall again, the trees bent over in the background. Inuyasha finally released Kikyou, realizing he could. "What happened?" Kikyou repeated.
"I don't know." he knew perfectly well but decided not to go about spilling the beans. Sesshomaru shook his head blankly.
"I feel . . . incomplete. I've always felt incomplete, because I never had you, but I feel worse now. Like, something is missing."
"Feh, welcome to my life." Kagome muttered to herself.
"Inuyasha? Are you prepared to go with me?" she asked.
"We've been through this. I have nothing left to live for." Kikyou held him to her again and a giant hole surrounded them. Inuyasha tried to wriggle free of her embrace, but couldn't, she was too strong. If only I was in my hanyou form. Oh why did tonight, of all nights, have to be the full moon? Why? He couldn't get away. What was he going to do? He saw Kagome run to the edge of the pit. The hole slowly began to grow around them, and he was being dragged down. It were as though hell was surrounding him as he began to feel warmth, the rain seemed to stop inside the hole and all that could be felt were the flames licking at his flesh. Kagome couldn't take it, she couldn't let him do this.
"Inuyasha!" she jumped into the pit.
"Kagome! Go home! This is for me to handle. Go!" he ordered.
"Let me take your place."
"You can't. Don't try to be a hero. Go home!"
Kikyou looked blankly at the pair. Had they planned this? She idly wondered.
"I am not strong enough Inuyasha. I can't live without you, and I don't want to. You might think I am trying to be brave by saving you, but I am not. I am just too weak to watch you die and then live my life without you." Kagome had already been crying and the tears continued falling as she spoke.
"I don't want to live without you either Kagome. But, this is what has to happen, now go, the hole is going to close up and I don't want you to die. Go! Find someone, be happy, laugh a lot, never loose that amazing glow inside you. Now go!"
"You knew you were going to die, didn't you? You knew and you didn't tell me. You knew there was no way out." Inuyasha held his head down in shame. He did know that he was going to die today.
"Please go. I love you." he turned away from Kikyou and held on to Kagome. He didn't allow himself to cry, he tried to be strong, but couldn't. Kagome refused to let him go, if he was going to die, then so was she. "Go."
"Not without you."
"Go." he repeated.
"But I love you." Kagome begged with him to let her stay.
"I know. Now GO!" he picked her up and threw her up to the top of the pit. Sesshomaru caught her and set her down.
"INUYASHA! NO! LET ME GO SESS! INUYASHA!" Sesshomaru held on to her, he wouldn't let her jump back down. The hole closed around the couple and Inuyasha forever vanished into the infinite darkness.
"Kikyou!" a new voice joined the frey. Souta came running up to the crowd, having barely seen his beloved become engulfed in the earth. "Wha-?"
"I'll explain." Sesshomaru stated.
"Inuyasha." Kagome whispered as she collapsed to the ground. Sesshomaru let her go and Nyoko walked up to them. He put his arm around her, more for his own support than for hers. "Please come back." Kagome cried. "Please. Please." She laid on the ground where the hole had appeared. "Please." she repeated, clawing at the dirt with her nails. She slept there, through the rain and the darkness, she slept, determined to dream of Inuyasha and never wake up again.
~*~§¤~*~
She did wake up though, much to her dismay. She was still in her front yard, she was soaked to the bone, and it was still raining, though it seemed the next dawn was upon her. She walked into her house, it was dark and empty. She walked to her room, it was the same, dark and empty. She put on dry clothes, though she didn't care if she died of pneumonia, and fell on the bed, crying herself to sleep again.
After a few days of not seeing Kagome, Sesshomaru got worried. Shippo was devastated that he wasn't on time to save Inuyasha, or to help comfort Kagome. Shippo offered to go to her house and check on her, afraid that she was suicidal. Meanwhile Souta was staying with his mother, prepared to help out if anything went wrong.
"Kagome?" Shippo knocked on the door delicately. The rain had finally stopped but it was overcast and not the best conditions for standing outside. "Kagome?!" he called a little louder, this time trying the door bell. Finally he decided to just open the door and go in.
The house was cold, and dark, he walked through, looking for Kagome. He walked upstairs and searched in every room until he found the bedroom. "Kagome?" he questioned as he opened the door. Sure enough, Kagome was laying on the bed. He walked over to her to make sure she was breathing, she seemed to be and he decided not to wake her. He turned around and left.
He notified Sesshomaru of her condition and he thanked him for checking on her. How could I have let my brother die, leaving his mate alone? I will protect her, it is my job as one of her kin. But I don't know how to comfort her. Will she ever be all right?
~*§¤*~ April 2008 (two years later)
Kagome tossed her bag on the floor and walked into the nursery. "Come here baby." she picked up the little boy and tossed him gently into the air, catching him on his decent back to earth. "Did you miss me? Mama missed you. Yes she did." she hugged the boy close to her and looked over to the woman sitting in a rocking chair a few feet from the cradle.
"Thanks for watching him Nyoko."
"No problem Kagome. Is there anything else I can do while I am here?"
"No, thanks. I'm going to be okay." Kagome smiled and gently placed the baby back in his crib. He began to cry wildly at being put down so soon. "Shh, mama will be right back." Kagome smiled to him and he stopped crying. "Do you need a ride home Nyoko?"
"No, Sesshomaru is coming to get me. Thank you though." Kagome nodded, she reached into her pocket and pulled out four twenties. *(I can't do yen sorry)*
"Here ya go. Thanks so much."
"Really, it is no trouble, I feel bad getting paid." Nyoko informed her.
"Oh take it." Kagome rolled her eyes and put the money in the demons hand. "He is my son, he is worth more than eighty dollars but I have a car payment this week."
"Oh don't worry." Nyoko waved the thought of more money from her mind. "I'll see you tomorrow. Are you going out with Sesshomaru and I?"
"No, I have spring break. That is code for 'more papers than you know what to do with'. I'll be pretty busy this week so you'll have a week off." Kagome smiled.
"Okay. Call if you need us." Nyoko hugged her gently.
"I will. Have a good night." Kagome opened the front door for her and watched her get in to Sesshomaru's car. He waved and Kagome smiled politely. She closed the door and walked to the refrigerator, taking out some milk. She shifted through the cupboards and found a bottle and some mashed peas. Preparing her sons dinner she hummed to herself.
Life hadn't been all bad. It had taken her two months to realize she still had a life to live, and a life to live for. She knew when Inuyasha died that she was pregnant, her biggest regret was not telling him. At one point, before her son was born, she had considered having a ceremony to have Inuyasha reborn. She soon wrote that off because of how Kikyou turned out when she came back. People weren't meant to be reborn, just look at the book by Stephen King. The animals that were buried in the Indian Burial ground, were sweet animals, until they came back to life. Kagome had thought of this too and decided it was best to leave him to rest. She finished warming the bottle and opened the jar of baby food, carrying the items up to the nursery.
She took the baby out of the crib and set him on her lap. He frowned at the peas and she giggled. "What do you want ramen?" not so much to her surprise, he nodded excitedly. "Just like daddy aren't you Inuyasha?" the boy frowned slightly. He was only one year old (having just had his birthday), but he was much smarter than most babies. "Come on, eat up." Kagome ignored his frown, he did that whenever his daddy was mentioned.
"Mama?" he asked.
"Hai baby?" she answered. He couldn't speak much, but what he could say was usually important.
"Why don't I have a daddy?" the question she had been waiting for. She thought it would come when he was much older and saw the kids with their daddies. How do you explain to a child that can barely talk, that his father got sucked into hell by a stupid evil bitch from five hundred years ago? That's easy . . . ya don't.
"You do have a daddy. He just died." Kagome stated plainly. No sense lying to the poor kid.
"Whas that mean?"
"It means he isn't coming back. Open." he opened his mouth and she fed him another spoonful of peas.
"Where is he then?"
"Well, I suppose he is waiting to be reborn. Or he is" she felt herself become teary, but she refused to cry in front of her son, "or he is with Kikyou." she finished.
"Who is that?"
"I think that is enough questions Mr." Kagome put down the empty bottle and empty jar of baby food and cleaned off her sons mouth. "I have to write a paper for Psychology so you are going to be a good boy and play in your room okay?"
"Okay." he ran off to play with one of his stuffed animals. Kagome watched him from the doorway for a minute. He was a spitting image of his father. He had shoulder length silver hair, furry triangular dog ears, the only thing that had changed were his eyes, they weren't a fierce amber, but a deep chocolate.
"Mommy?"
"Hai baby?"
"I love you." Kagome smiled down at her son.
"I love you too Inuyasha."
She walked down the hall into the study. She decorated it the way Inuyasha had talked about. It was boring really, but that is how he always wanted it. She had the childish thought that if she kept everything how he liked it, he would magically come back to her. But that wasn't going to happen. If it were, it would have by now. She sat down at the computer, the desk that she had watched Kouga and Inuyasha fumble with for hours. It still wasn't put together right, the computer wasn't suppose to cause the wood to bend. Kagome laughed as she remembered him. She tried really hard to remember him and be happy rather than sad. Though it didn't always turn out that way.
She took out her psychology school book and the paper requirements list and the books she had gotten from the library. She had transferred from the school in Boston to one right in Tokyo. She had to change her major but she didn't mind, being a psychologist was turning out to be an interesting goal. She still lived in the home Inuyasha had built, and she only had to be away from Inuyasha jr when she had class and then Nyoko, Sesshomaru, Kouga or Shippo would take care of him. Shippo had even offered to move in with her, to keep her company, but she said she had to handle things on her own and he understood.
She began typing away, trying to answer her thesis based on the opinions of very well known psychologists from the books she picked up. She would stop every so often to cite a book or look up a fact. After many hours she got tired, and hungry. She yawned loudly and looked at the clock, it was nine thirty. She decided to call it a night, grab a bite to eat and go to bed.
She walked into Inuyasha's room and saw that he was sleeping in a pile of stuffed animals. She gently picked him up and placed him in the crib. She pulled his blanket up to his chin and kissed him on the forehead. She turned on his racecar night light and left the room.
Down the stairs and into the kitchen, she boiled water and made some ramen. Three minutes later she was nonchalantly eating the instant food. She looked up from the food to see a person walk in through the front door. She had had this hallucination before, the one where Inuyasha walked in from the rain and told her he was home. She closed her eyes and counted to ten before opening them again. The image was gone. Sometimes, she wouldn't close her eyes, preferring to pretend he was there. She would let him come to her and hold her in his arms, she would be happy for a fleeting moment, until he vanished in front of her eyes.
Deciding she wasn't hungry any more she went back upstairs. She changed into her pajamas and brushed her teeth. Once she was finished with her nightly ritual she decided to check on Inuyasha again. She opened the nursery door to see a figure looming over her son's cradle. She had had this one too. Come to think of it, she had had an illusion in every room of the house. She closed her eyes and began counting. She opened them but the figure wasn't gone. She closed her eyes again. When ever she didn't force the image away she would end up crying and she didn't feel like crying tonight. She opened her eyes again, but the figure remained.
"Who are you?" she asked. The figure turned to look at her. She couldn't tell who it was, the night light seemed to have gone out and the shades were drawn, keeping out the moonlight. The only light was that from the hall and the figure wasn't in the light.
"Kagome?"
Kagome felt herself begin to cry. Her hallucinations never talked! She counted again. Closing her eyes tight. She opened them to see a hazy image of a figure moving towards her. She stumbled backward, into the hallway and down into her room. She ran into the master bedrooms personal bath room and grabbed a box of pills from the medicine cabinet. They were for when her hallucinations or her nightmares wouldn't stop. She popped the pill into her mouth and swallowed it without water. She closed her eyes again and counted, trying to calm her breathing.
Kagome opened her eyes to find she was alone in the bathroom. She exhaled and turned off the bathroom light. Walking to the bed she drew back the covers. She sat in the bed and flopped down to lay on her side, catching a flash of red as she laid down. She sat back up and looked around the dark room. A shadow moved to briefly cover the hall light, then the light was exposed again. She looked around and saw the same figure from before. Now she was scared, the pills usually worked instantly.
"Who are you?" she asked again.
"Kagome?" the same answer she had received before.
"Please, tell me what you want." she saw the figure walking toward her and she couldn't move. She didn't know what to do, she froze. "Please-"
"Kagome, I'm so happy to see you." It was Inuyasha's voice, but this couldn't be Inuyasha.
He is dead. He is dead. You saw him die. It is just another hallucination. Calm down. Think of something else. Don't think of Inuyasha. Think of your son. Oh you had to go and name him Inuyasha didn't you? Baka! She thought to herself, trying to calm her thoughts.
"Please tell me what you want. I'll do anything just leave me alone." Kagome had tears in her eyes but her voice was calm and collected.
"Why would I leave you Kagome? Don't you know who I am? Its Inuyasha." the figure turned the light on and Kagome opened her eyes. She saw the hanyou, standing above her. His long silver hair was even longer than she remembered, his eyes were still a piercing amber that seemed to bare in to her soul.
"Inuyasha?" Kagome didn't believe what she was seeing. A dream, that could be it. I'm dreaming. Since I know I am dreaming, that means I am lucid dreaming. Okay, so now I have to find a way to dream him away. The doctor says thinking about him isn't good. Besides, I am taking psychology and this is all in my head. It isn't real. Kagome opened her eyes to see that Inuyasha was still standing there, looking confused.
"Inuyasha?" she questioned again. He nodded and she couldn't help herself, she sat up and flung her arms around his neck. He held on to her, making sure they both didn't fall over from the force. "I don't care if this is a dream or a hallucination. I love you so much" she kissed him on the cheek and on the lips, anywhere her own lips could find to kiss him.
"I love you too baby." he kissed her neck and caressed her body. He hadn't felt her in so long, it was good to feel her again. She was so warm, "Is that my son?" he asked.
"Hai. I named him Inuyasha. Inuyasha Yuske Tenkai." she continued to kiss him and worked to pull of his shirt. She was kneeling on the bed now and he was standing beside her.
She knew that when she woke up in the morning he would be gone, but if she was dreaming, she was going to make it worth it. She tossed his shirt carelessly aside and kissed his chest. His body was as perfect as she remembered. Of course it is, it's your dream baka. Inuyasha didn't remain idle much longer. He pulled off her pajama top and gently pushed her onto the bed. He kissed her lips and began pulling off her pajama bottoms. He then unbuttoned his own pants and kicked them off to the floor. He kissed his way down her neck kissing the hollow of the throat because he knew she liked that. She threw her head back in frustration, she wanted him. She rolled her hips up toward him, silently telling him what she wanted. He smiled at her antics and continued slowly down her body. He pulled off her panties, resisting the urge to thrust into her. He slowly kissed up her thigh, and toward her core. She bucked again, pleading. His tongue darted out of his mouth, attacking her in a wave of pleasure. She gasped in surprise and her hands found their way to his head, rubbing his ears and running her fingers through his hair, anything to keep him in place. He wouldn't allow that though as he kissed his way back up her body, teasing her soft flesh with flicks of the tongue and light caresses with his claws. Inuyasha's boxers were discarded without a second thought and he positioned himself over her center, he teased her by dipping his tip in, just enough for her to feel, and then pulling back out. He did this again and she wrapped her legs around him, prohibiting him from going back again. Her muscles clamped around his aching erection, weakening his resolve. He pounded into her, unable to control himself anymore. Kagome had missed the feel of him inside her and she moaned out pleasurable gasp after pleasurable gasp. Her nails dug into his shoulders as she lifted herself off the bed to collide with his thrusts, just to have herself pounded back down onto the bed. The bed rocked against the wall, creating a sharp pounding noise, but no one seemed to notice or care. Kagome felt her climax approaching and she longed for it. She sped up the pace, thrusting up into him harder, he took the hint and felt the same need. Her muscles clamped around his erection and it sent him spiraling over the edge, he released into her. Kagome wasn't too far behind. She sank down onto the bed, her body twitching in the aftershocks. She allowed her legs to fall down to the bed. Inuyasha pulled out of her and rolled to her side. Since they were sideways on the bed they decided it would be best to turn and crawl under the blankets. Inuyasha pulled Kagome close to him, kissing her tenderly.
She smiled at his touch, his arm draped across her stomach, his soft lips kissing her temple. This was by far the best dream yet.
~*§¤*~
"Mommy!" a child's voice called. Kagome noted in the back of her mind that it was her son, but she didn't think too much of it as she tried to sleep. "Mommy!" the voice repeated. This time she allowed her eyes to drift open. That dream had been much to good to ever want to wake from it. She breathed deeply, images reliving in her mind, and she smiled to herself. She then realized she wasn't wearing any clothes. She sat up and looked around the room. There was no one there, but her clothes were randomly thrown across it. She wrote this off as nothing and collected them, getting dressed.
"Mommy!" the voice yelled again
"Yes, yes what is it Inuyasha?" Kagome walked into the child's room and gasped at the image before her.
"Look, I have a new friend. His name's Inuyasha too!" Kagome felt her knees weaken.
"You see him too?" the little boy nodded. Kagome felt tears in her eyes and she walked up to the hanyou. He put down the boy and he ran around the room looking for something to play with. She reached up to him and gently caressed his cheek. He held her hand to his cheek, then threw his arms around her in a strong, demanding hug. She hugged him back, not sure if she should believe what was happening.
"Then it wasn't a dream?" she whispered to him.
"No. I came back Kagome. I love you."
"How? It makes no sense. I watched you di-" he silenced her with a gentle finger to her lips.
"I'll explain everything. But if we could, not in front of Inuyasha." Kagome nodded.
"Want some breakfast sweetie?" both Inuyasha's nodded sharply and Kagome smiled at them. She picked up her son and carried him downstairs. Inuyasha followed closely behind them.
She prepared some carrots for her son and ramen for Inuyasha. She didn't eat, she couldn't. After the meals were finished she placed the dishes in the dishwasher.
"Inuyasha?" they both looked over at her with questioning gazes, "Little Yasha." she specified, the other turned around and continued to gaze around the house. "Want to go to uncle Shippo's house?"
"Hai!" he smiled and climbed off the couch. Kagome carried him upstairs and packed a bag for him. She told him he could bring one toy and he was having trouble deciding which. She walked to the phone in the hall, which lay on a small circular table that stood randomly in the middle of the wall. Another thing Inuyasha had spoke of, so she did it. She dialed Shippo's number and waited for a voice from the other side.
"~ Hello~"
"Hey Shippo. I was wondering if you could watch Inuyasha for a few hours. I have something I need to take care of. I'll explain when I can."
"~ Hai, sure. Want me to come get him? ~"
"Sure."
"~ Okay, see you in a few. ~"
"Thanks. Bye."
"~Bye~"
Kagome hung up the phone and helped Inuyasha down stairs. He liked to do it on his own, but the stairs were not child friendly, with no support in the back and slippery wood paneling, Kagome didn't trust it. She sat in silence with her child on her lap, in the living room, Inuyasha sitting by her side. She wanted to say something, but she didn't know what. A knock on her door sounded sharply, snapping her out of her daze. She carried Inuyasha into the hallway and opened the door.
"Unky Shippo!" Inuyasha screamed excitedly.
"Hey Inuyasha!" Shippo hugged him closely and grabbed his bag from Kagome.
"Thanks again Shippo. Like I said, I'll explain when I can."
"It's no problem. I love the little guy." he smiled and waved to Kagome, "Say 'bye-bye' to mama."
"Bye-bye mama" Inuyasha repeated. "Bye Inuyasha!" he hollered. Shippo looked confused for a moment but wrote it off as a little kid blabbing.
"Hey Inuyasha."
"Hizabell!"
"Hey Kagome."
"Hey Chizzy."
"Well, see you later." Shippo led Chizzabella back to the car, she took the bag from him so he would have less to carry.
Kagome closed the door and walked back to the couch . . . now to get some answers.
"So you died, and came back? Are you clay? Are you going to go psychotic and take me to hell with you?" she didn't mean to sound accusing but she didn't know what else to say.
"Come to hell with me Kagome." Inuyasha loomed over her, imitating Kikyou to his best. He began breathing nasally and chanting "Come with me Kagome, come to hell."
"Okay, okay. So you aren't here to take me to hell." Kagome smiled slightly. He laughed and sat back down.
"Want the long version or short version?"
"Long. Long and detailed."
"Okay . . . here goes . . . the devil rocks, first off. I went to hell, obviously you saw me being sucked in, and hell isn't the 'raa hiss hellfire' pit people make it out to be. It is actually, cold, very cold. It's dark and dank, and down right depressing. There is nothing there, a huge river, with four smaller rivers pouring into it -"
"Oh the river Styx which is the river of unbreakable oath, the river Acheron which is river of woe, Cocytus river of lamentation, Phlegethon river of fire and Lethe river of forgetfulness."
"Hai." Inuyasha wasn't sure about all that, but that was pretty much what he saw. "The lost souls, those that have had there souls ripped from them, or have already been reincarnated, their essence floats around, millions of bodies, floating through the rivers, floating around the walls. It is the most eerie feeling. Kikyou, she was one of those lost beings. Kikyou neglected to realize that when she came back to stay she would become a floating specter like the rest of them. So she became an essence, floating around, me on the other hand, I was alive. I might have been technically dead, but I was very much alive. The 'devil' I guess you would call him, didn't think Kikyou would actually get me to go with her. He admired my willingness to be thrown into the pits of hell to save your life. He said he would keep me around for a while, and I could learn what it is he does. I agreed to his terms, he said in a few hundred years my soul would be ripped from me to be reincarnated, and I accepted that. He was a nice guy actually, I am sure that the other Kami wouldn't accept that but he was. I think I'm psychotic and that these past few months have been a dream but it was real."
"Months?" Kagome questioned.
"Hai. It's only been two months or so. That is why I was surprised to see Inuyasha so big."
"It's been two years. Inuyasha just turned a year old last week."
"Two years?" he didn't believe it. "No, that is impossible. I was only there for two months when he said I deserved to be returned to you. He just up and let me leave. He said I couldn't tell anyone what he looked like, that was his big issue. I was brought back through the rivers in this gondola type thing, driven by this skeleton creature. Once I was out of the rivers I blanked out, I didn't remember anything, and I woke up on a beach. I took a few minutes to collect myself and then I went to ask someone where I was and I was in Kyoto. I hitch-hiked back here, hoping you still lived here. Now, here I am." he smiled and thoroughly searched his brain for any missing details.
"This is impossible. It's . . . It's too amazing." Kagome couldn't see anything that would explain this phenomenon.
"You didn't really think hell would keep me away did you?" he teased.
"I am sorry, I'm having a terrible issue believing this." Kagome said honestly.
"The house looks great." Inuyasha changed the subject. "I noticed a lot of the things we talked about are what you did." Kagome nodded absently. "I reckon we'll have to tell Inuyasha about all this." he waved his hand to demonstrate a wide amount of stuff.
"Hai."
"Don't be so scared." Inuyasha cupped her chin and looked her in the eyes, "I love you." with that he kissed her. Never wanting to let go, and determined to never leave her or his son again. And he never did.

Doesn't the title for this chapter rock? It doesn't make much sense in regards to the chapter but it kicked! ^-^ I hope this last chapter came out clearly. I thought it did but I know what I was thinking *smiles*
For those of you who are curious, yes Inuyasha did take her to St. Lucia for their honeymoon (Sess was more than happy to watch little Inu ^-^). Oh and Kagome was about a month pregnant with little Inu when Big Inu died. . . *tear* thought I'd clear that up. Lastly, Souta hooked up with Kagome's friend Kahori, so he is happy too! Sess mated with Nyoko and Shippo with Chizzabella! Everyone is happy yay!
Okay so that was sad. *tear* I hate finishing stories. It makes me feel so . . . empty. *tears* I don't know what to write about now. *wails dramatically* *~ominous voice from nowhere: You still have Legends baka! and that story you are working on the first chapter for that you haven't posted yet And you are editing for Genishi. And ~* okay I get it! SHUT UP! *smiles* but I still will miss this story, I liked it. I think I almost liked it more than Drug Lords what do you think? *sigh* bye then. Hope to hear from you guys. ^_^

~*§¤*~
