Chapter 1
~~Mating Season~~
The cooling, evening April sun shone upon an odd-looking group of travelers. In it were two demons, a monk, a demon slayer, a demon cat, and a very out of place girl dressed in strange foreign clothing.
The young girl stopped and stretched her arms, announcing that this is the perfect spot for them to stop. The older of the two demons, with white hair and fuzzy ears atop his head, said, “Geez, Kagome, what's with all these breaks? We should be searching for jewel shards, not stopping every hour.”
The girl called Kagome raised an eyebrow. “Calm down InuYasha, we've been walking all day, and it's almost night time. Now, if you want some ramen, I would suggest collecting wood with Miroku.”
A mumble under his breath, InuYasha stomped into the thick woodland while Miroku stood for a moment, just watching. After a minute, he followed with a knowing smirk.
InuYasha stood with a large bundle of sticks in his arms…and promptly dropped them in a heap. He gathered them up again, taking his time, and dropped them once more. Miroku came up beside him as he collected the sticks again.
“Is there a reason as to why you are doing this, InuYasha?” He inquired.
“What the fuck does it look like?” InuYasha growled, yet again dropping the sticks.
Miroku smirked. “Is this by any chance related to the fact you do not wish to see Lady Kagome right now? Lady Sango has told me something about a certain season of each year that some demons dread more than death itself. Is that it?”
“I don't know what the hell you're talking about! Don't you have asses to grab, monk?”
“Oh, InuYasha, right as you may be, I believe you have a problem, my friend. You haven't even told Kagome you love her.”
InuYasha leaned down to grab more sticks, but it more for hiding the blush that had crept up to his cheeks. “I don't know what you're talking about; I don't feel anything for that wench except annoyed. If she stopped leaving so much and holding up our search for Naraku I wouldn't yell so much.”
This incited an uproarious laughter from Miroku. “Oh InuYasha, you and I both know you will never stop yelling. It's your nature. However, I think the real reason you're bothered when Kagome leaves is that you're lonely. You miss her when she leaves for long periods of time.”
A dark scowl settled on InuYasha's profile. “Piss off Miroku, I'm busy here.”
“Ah hah! So you don't deny it.”
“I said go away!”
“I'm going, I'm going. Just make sure you actually bring back all that wood when you decide it's been long enough.” On that note, Miroku walked away, quietly chuckling to himself.
InuYasha felt another presence, and the intoxicating scent that wrapped around his nose told him it was Kagome. He picked up his pile of sticks for the last time and purposely walked in a different direction, away from Kagome. `I've got to find some way to stop this…' He thought, his attention drifting back to her face. `Damn mating season…damn it all to hell!'

A young hanyou girl stepped out from behind a thick bush. `Goddamn you InuYasha; you had to go in zigzags, didn't you?'
InuYasha's scent diverged in two directions. She wondered which way to go; guessing, she went left.
“Well you know what InuYasha?” She yelled to the heavens. “You'll just have to wait that much longer!” The hanyou let out a frustrated sigh and stormed off in the direction she chose.

A/N:
Okay. This is a rewrite of the first chapter because I lost the original and cannot retrieve it. Sad, I know. But, I think this version is a smidgen better, so please be nice. However, if you do have some constructive criticism, that would be most appreciated, especially if you notice any holes in my story. If you tell me, I will patch it up. Thank you for you patience! ^_^
