Chapter 2
~~Help Arrives~~

After eating the delicious meal of ramen, InuYasha went into the forest where he took shelter in the high branches of a tree. Kagome just shook her head. Sometimes that boy could be so dense, but was he sweating? Surely it wasn't that hot. In fact, it was a rather chilly night. Kagome shivered. She grabbed a sweater and wrapped it around herself tightly. Her head perked up when she heard a loud slap pierce the air and heard Sango shout, “Miroku, I swear to kami, you touch me like that again and I will never bear any of your children!” After that she heard a whimpering plea. “But Sango, darling, you've already promised that you…Now Sango, it's not really necessary to do - Ouch!”
Kagome couldn't help but smirk and chuckle at Miroku's misfortune. `Poor Miroku, he'll be feeling that in the morning.' She thought as she pulled out her sleeping bag. `Oh well, not like it's my problem. My problem is getting InuYasha to talk to me.' She stood up to go to the bathroom one last time before she went to sleep. She grabbed her bag and walked quickly into the blackened forest. Kagome pulled her jacket tighter around her small frame. The forest was always pitch black at night, making it impossible to see anything. She finally found a secluded spot she liked and set her bag down. `Hmm, I wonder when I'll get my period.”

InuYasha sat in his tree, clawing nervously at the bark. When Kagome had given him his ramen, her fingers brushed his, making the hair on his neck stand on end. Just the touch of her sent him over the edge. He had almost been tempted to take her right then and there. Not only would that have been completely inappropriate, but Miroku wouldn't leave him alone until he croaked. He was just starting to relax when a panic gripped his heart. InuYasha jumped down from the branch. The panic had served correct, for only a few seconds later, he heard an earth shattering scream. `That sounds like Kagome!' The panic gripped him all over again as he ran out of his side of the forest, past an astonished Miroku, Sango, and Shippou, and into the other side of the trees. InuYasha stopped dead in his tracks when his nose picked up a scent. `Blood...Kagome's blood.' He took off again with a vengeance to kill. Kagome came into sight, but instead of being in pain, she looked extremely angry. Her skirt was off, and it looked as if she was about to take off her panties as well. InuYasha's eyes widened at the sight, but knew he had better stop now. Unfortunately, something inside him snapped, and he kept going. He stopped right in front of her and forced the words out of his mouth and his eyes on her face.

“Kagome, are you all right? What's wrong?”

Her eyes expanded as she pushed herself to hide behind the enormous yellow backpack. “Go away InuYasha! There's nothing wrong; I didn't mean to scream. Now go back to your tree!”

But InuYasha did not go back to his tree. Instead, he dropped down on his knees in front of Kagome and stared at her eyes with an intensity that made her shudder. “You're perfect…” He muttered. Kagome's brow furrowed at the voiced thought. “InuYasha, what are you talking about?” She asked, puzzled. Her question was answered when InuYasha's lips dropped down onto hers. He pushed the bag out of the way and gathered Kagome into an embrace. His lips gently caressed hers; not wanting to ruin the moment, he didn't try to deepen the kiss. He finally broke away from the kiss, knowing that if he continued, he wouldn't be able to control himself. Kagome's eyes were still closed when he stopped. “Why did you stop?” She whispered her eyes still closed.

“Because,” InuYasha stated, “I know I wouldn't be able to stop.”

Kagome opened her eyes at this. “InuYasha…”

He looked at her, stroking her cheek with the pad of his thumb.

“…I think I should get changed now. I also have some personal problems I need to attend to. So, if you could leave…”

InuYasha looked over to where her skirt lay. He finally noticed on the back of it was a small stain of blood, the same blood he smelled earlier. He gasped, and immediately scrambled to his feet. He had to get out of there before it registered in his brain that Kagome was “going into heat.”

“Oh kami…” He couldn't take it anymore. He had to either take her or leave her. InuYasha lingered one hesitant moment before turning tail and running.

InuYasha ran out into the clearing where Miroku, Sango and Shippou were all sleeping. He continued walking back to his lonely little tree. His head down, he was about to jump back up onto the branch when he picked up a scent. He was immediately alert; In front of InuYasha stood a female hanyou that looked oddly familiar.

“Hello,” She said, “My name is Hana, and I'm here to help you.”
