While the sisters were battling with Kanna and Kagura…

Sesshomaru began attacking Naraku with his demon sword. He flew through the air striking in a downward motion as he descended from above Naraku. But Naraku's barrier repelled the blow forcing Sesshoumaru back. He landed softly back beside his younger brother. InuYasha raised his sword as it began to glow red.
“Wind scar!” he yelled as he attacked Naraku trying to break the barrier.
Naraku was quick to dodge the attack and rose high into the air. “Nice try.” He taunted InuYasha as he came back down behind them.
Sesshomaru began to step forward when InuYasha cut him off. “Your sword is useless against him!” he barked.
“You can't even land a blow on him!” Sesshoumaru growled back.
Naraku grinned at the sight of the bickering brothers. He sent forth his squid-like arms in an effort to subdue the brothers while they were distracted. As the arms rapidly sailed through the air they transformed. The tips of them changed into mouths exposing sharp teeth. As InuYasha was taking pleasure in scolding his brother Sesshoumaru noticed the approaching danger and pushed InuYasha out of his way. In a blur he sliced all six arms as he rose in the air dodging them.
InuYasha lowered his brow angered by Sesshoumaru's actions. He ceased the opportunity to attack Naraku while he was distracted. The red glowing Tetsuaiga sent a barrier breaking energy straight for Naraku. This time he was not able to move quickly enough to save his barrier, but the impact did not strike his body. Rising into the air he withdrew what was left of his squid-like arms. His barrier gone, he was now vulnerable to Sesshoumaru's attacks.
Sesshoumaru sent a light blue electric energy at Naraku. The blow was enough to shred his body into thousands of pieces. But just as quickly as the pieces parted they began to reconstruct themselves. Naraku's evil laugh echoed as the two brothers stood watching him reform.
“It's useless unless we can get the jewel from him!” InuYasha barked angrily. `Damn! I can't see the jewel without Kagome….'
“Sesshoumaru we have to keep attacking him!” InuYasha yelled. “We can't let his body reconstruct itself.”
“I take orders from no one!” Sesshoumaru growled. He looked at his younger brother annoyed and sent his yellow whip of light after him. InuYasha dodged his brother's whip of light jumping from right to left, but finally Sesshoumaru landed a blow knocking him to the ground.
“Sesshoumaru you idiot! I'll kill you!” InuYasha barked back at his older brother.
Naraku had reconstructed himself completely and stood back enjoying the battle between the brothers. `They'll destroy each other and I won't have to soil my hands with them.' An evil grin came to his face.

Meanwhile at the bone eaters well…
Kagome crawled out of the well quickly. She had heard the sounds of battle and felt the earth tremble as soon as she had crossed over. `…the sacred jewel…Naraku!' She raced through the trees and bushes towards the sounds of trees cracking and falling, and the yelling voices up ahead. She arrived just in time to see InuYasha and Sesshoumaru as they squared off.
InuYasha had prepared to use his sword on his older brother when a scent caught his nose he hadn't smelled in a long time. His eyes glared past his brother into the shadows of the forest behind him. There she stood staring back at him.
“InuYasha.” she whispered to herself.
“K-Kagome?!” he replied. He raced to her side to make sure she was kept safe.
Naraku's evil laugh rang out. InuYasha turned just in time to see the armor part of his body coming towards them quickly. He grabbed Kagome and jumped well out of harms way. Sesshoumaru used his sword to shatter the extensions of Naraku's body.
“Kagome, the jewel, where is the jewel?” InuYasha said hastily.
Kagome stared at Naraku's body for a moment and then replied, “His neck, the jewel is in his neck.”
“Stay back! I am going to end this now!” He barked as he ran towards Naraku.
Meanwhile Sesshoumaru had been fighting against Naraku's armored body in which Naraku had formed into a sword-like appendage. To Naraku's surprise Sesshoumaru withdrew, but it wasn't because he was backing down. InuYasha's wind scar plowed across the ground striking Naraku. Sesshoumaru used Tokijin to send his dragon strike along with the wind scar and again Naraku's body was shredded into pieces floating in the air.
Akira had crushed Kanna's mirror, and rushed to her sister's side. Kanna faded once again into a mist and returned to Kagura's side. Akira examined her injured sister and then turned her angered eyes in their direction. She rose to her feet standing in a defensive position before her sister's unconscious body. Her sword at arms length before her held with both hands.
Kagura wasted no time sending her dance of the dragon whirlpools of wind Akira's way. Akira took only an instant to debate her choice and then leapt forward slicing down the whirlpools of wind. But while she was attacking the whirlpools of wind Kagura rose into the air upon a feather along with Kanna and sailed over her own attack. Akira sliced down the last whirlpool of wind only to find the two had disappeared from her view. She looked up to see Kagura holding up her fan about to send another attack down on her older sister who was still unconscious lying on the ground.
She raced as quickly as she could in her sister's direction as she saw Kagura's blades of wind cut through the air coming down at her sister. She barely reached her sister's body as the blades began to cut into the ground around them. She covered her sister's body with her own until it was over.
Kagome scanned the shredded body of Naraku for the jewel. “There InuYasha!” she yelled pointing to a larger floating part. InuYasha jumped up grabbing at the lump of flesh before him. Once he took hold of it the flesh began to melt away. He landed softly and rushed to give Kagome the tainted jewel. As soon as she touched the jewel it was purified and the dark color faded quickly.
InuYasha turned around looking back to see Naraku's fleshy parts gathering inside a newly reconstructed barrier he had formed. Sesshoumaru swung his sword at the orb floating before him, but to no avail. He was sent flying back. The orb quickly disappeared into the sky.
InuYasha's nose soon caught the scent of blood, Akira's blood. He rushed in her direction. Kagura and Kanna had disappeared into the sky following Naraku. There at his feet Akira laid on top of her sister deep cuts on her back and legs. Her blood stained the ground around their bodies. Sesshoumaru walked up looking down upon his beloved's face praying that she would open her eyes to look up at him.
The bodies began to move as Elandra opened her eyes. She struggled to sit up sliding the upper part of her body out from under her sister. She sat there speechless as her sister's lifeless body lay in her lap. Her arms and legs covered in her sister's blood. InuYasha kneeled down taking off his hoari and wrapping the younger sister in it. He began to walk slowly away from the gory scene.
Kagome stood and watched as InuYasha approached with body of Akira in his arms. Something in her heart screamed out a warning that something was wrong but she stayed silently watching.
“Stay here, I'll be back.” InuYasha said as he walked by her keeping his eyes on the girls face hoping her eyes would show some sign of life.
“Where are you going?” Kagome asked. “Miroku and Sango are still out there.”
The trees and bushes behind them began to rustle as a Miroku stepped through them with Sango in his arms. “Kohaku got away...again.” he managed to say as he looked back down at Sango who was unconscious.
“Sango!” Kagome said rushing over to them. “What happened?”

Flash back…..
Sango sailed through the air upon Kirara's back after Kohaku. Miroku ran on the ground beneath them struggling to keep up. Kohaku was no longer visible and Sango urged Kirara to move ahead faster leaving Miroku behind. As Kirara picked up speed the tree limbs whizzed by them. In an instant Sango was knocked from Kirara's back falling to the ground far beneath her with a thud. Kirara turned and tried to catch her but couldn't move fast enough. Kohaku jumped down from the trees to his sister's body. His sling-blade held high in the air as to deliver the final blow to his sister's unconscious body. Kirara quickly lunged at him knocking him back on the ground. Kohaku struck out at the cat demon that stood over Sango's body defensively. But he could not land a blow on her. He reached inside his shoulder armor and pulled several poison gas pellets out throwing them at the huge cat demon before him. They exploded into a gas as they hit the ground. Kirara struggled to stay transformed in the cloud of gas, but it soon over powered her and she past out transforming back into her smaller form. Kohaku approached Sango once again raising his blade into the air ready to strike.
Miroku arrived just in time to dive in between the two. He held his staff with both hands up in the air blocking the blade of the boy before him. Kohaku jumped back and sent his blade flying through the air at Miroku. Miroku was able to fight off Kohaku's weapon, but before long the boy began rising up into the air inside a purple orb and sailed off in the sky above.

End Flashback….
“Kohaku has the only jewel shard that Naraku possesses…” InuYasha said still holding Akira in his arms.
“I don't think so…” Kagome added. “This can't be the entire jewel.” She said as she held it in full view of everyone. Everyone looked down at the jewel in Kagome's hand. The jewel was missing a great deal more than just one piece that they had in their possession.
“Damn him!” InuYasha yelled.
Miroku stared at the jewel and then added, “But of coarse… since the jewel was being reconstructed inside his body he probably spared several pieces for his son. After all his son carries the human heart that allows him to live. He would need to be just as powerful to protect himself.”
As the group stood around talking Sesshoumaru walked away from them back into the shadows of the forest, Elandra watched as he disappeared into the trees. She then turned her attention back to her sister. Inside she was filled with confusion and sorrow. She approached InuYasha and the others.
“We have to get her to Kiade.” He said.
“Perhaps I should take her…” Elandra managed.
“Kiade can care for her wounds.” Miroku said in a convincing tone. “She has bandaged many wounds in her years and has a great deal of knowledge about the herbs available around here.”
Desperation began to overtake the older sister as she stared down at her sister's face. “Are you sure that she can help her?”
“Yes.” Miroku answered. “But we have to go quickly. The more time we spend debating the less chance she has to recover from her injury.”
“Tell her I will come for her.” Elandra said with tears in her eyes. She brushed her sister's hair back from her face and said a silent goodbye before leaving.
Elandra raced off after Sesshoumaru fearing he had left her behind. As she raced through the trees an arm reached out and caught her. It was Sesshoumaru. He stood before her looking down with sympathy in his eyes, a quality she had never seen in them before.
“Do you wish to stay here with your sister?” he questioned her. Elandra looked back out of the corner of her eye never turning her head from his direction. Sesshoumaru had never cared for another being as he did her. Elandra felt her heart as it broke from the question.
“I wish to stay by your side.” She answered in a whisper. Sesshoumaru's heart breathed a sigh of relief as he embraced her tightly. She buried her head in his chest, “Though she is my sister, we have chosen different paths in this world.” She paused for a moment feeling a little guilty of her decision. “I will return for her.” She thought to herself.

InuYasha carried Akira's body back to the village. Kagome walked slowly behind them curious as to how the girl had become such a close knit part of the group. She didn't understand why her sister had not taken Akira with her. Miroku walked behind Kagome with Sango and Kirara in his arms.
Once back in the village Kiade bandaged Akira's body yet again. She prepared a tonic for Sango and Kirara to drink once they awoke. Kagome sat feeling left out as InuYasha was acting strange to her. It seemed as if he did not want to leave Akira's side.
It was a while before Akira finally opened her eyes. The gashes on her back and legs burned from the herbs Kiade used to disinfect them. It was late in the evening and everyone was asleep but InuYasha who was outside the hut high in a tree perched on a limb. The small fire in the center of the hut gave some light and Akira noticed Kagome lying across from her. Worry filled her heart as she began to wonder what events may have taken place between her and InuYasha while she out. Her keen scent of smell soon caught his scent blowing on a gentle breeze inside the hut. Her heart urged her to go to him and ask, but her mind wasn't so sure. It took a while for her to return to sleep.
It was late the next morning before she returned to the land of the conscious. Kiade and Shippo were the only ones still in the hut. Kiade sat by the fire feeding it to heat an iron pot she was preparing a stew in. She sat up and Kiade turned her attention from stirring the pot to the girl.
“You're making a habit of getting injured like this.” She smiled at the girl playfully. “You are quite clumsy to be a cat demon.”
Akira returned a little grin as she scanned the hut looking for InuYasha. “Where is everyone?”
“Miroku and Sango have gone for a walk.” She replied. “I have not seen InuYasha since last night.” Kiade failed to mention Kagome purposely.
Akira rose to her feet. “I think I will go for a walk as well.”
“I think you need to rest. You lost a lot of blood and the wounds are deep.” Kiade insisted.
“I'll be fine.” She replied to the old woman as she stood up and walked out of the hut.
She followed InuYasha's scent away from the village. It took her through the rice fields and into the forest. Soon she also picked up Kagome's scent mixed in with his. Soon she came to a clearing where the two of them stood talking. She ducked behind a tree. `Be still my heart.' She said to herself mentally. Her heartbeat raced uncontrollably as she realized her fears. Curiosity filled her as she began to try and ease drop on the conversation before her. Luckily she was down wind, so InuYasha did not pick up her scent. But she could not hear the conversation in its entirety. She however did hear InuYasha speak, `Kagome I have missed you. Not a day has gone by that I have not thought about you or longed to see you again.' Akira could take it no more and quietly made her way deeper into the forest alone.
The conversation…
Earlier that day everyone had began moving around at first light; Kagome had made her way outside the hut after breakfast to see InuYasha darting off into the forest. She was alone outside and decided to go after him. Her heart was breaking because of the distance that seems to have wedged itself between them. Soon she caught up with him close to the sacred tree.
“Kagome.” InuYasha said as he noticed he wasn't alone anymore.
“What has been bothering you so, InuYasha?” she asked her voice trailing off.
“Nothing.” He replied quickly.
Kagome walked closer to him staring him in the eye. “I feel like your heart is out of my reach.”
InuYasha broke eye contact. His eyes fell to the ground. The two stood at a silent standstill for a few moments. Kagome began to speak again, “InuYasha please forgive me for leaving and spending so much time away, but-“
InuYasha cut her off, “I understand.” He replied never raising his eyes from the ground. He turned and walked away towards the well.
“InuYasha.” Kagome called to him. `He doesn't understand. How could he?' She ran to his side and walked with him towards the well in silence. When they reached the clearing around the well InuYasha stopped walking at looked at the well, his then glossy eyes looked up at Kagome.
“InuYasha I wasn't trying to hurt you. I have come back as often as I can, but everyone was gone.” Kagome tried to choke back her tears. “I know you don't understand and all you want is for me to stay here. But you have to understand that for me to stay here and shun all responsibility I have in my own time would be like you staying in my time and leaving Naraku to do as he pleased here in this time.”
“Kagome I have missed you. Not a day has gone by that I have not thought about you or longed to see you again.” InuYasha paused. “I have often caught myself here by the well wanting to come after you and bring you back, but that would only add to my heartbreak. I know you have your reasons for going back, and I have always trusted you to do what's best. In the passing months I have done my best to come to terms with your absence.”
Fear filled Kagome's heart as she realized what he was about to say. A feeling very much like the time she found him and Kikyo embraced by the sacred tree when they didn't know she was watching. Kagome had chosen to stand beside him even after he chose Kikyo. Kagome had always feared their two different worlds would tear them apart.
Even though the fantasy that had lived in her heart gave her hope for them throughout all the years reality had begun to rear its evil head and reminded her that it was just that, a fantasy. A human being from a different time wasn't supposed to go back in time to be with a half demon.
Tears began to roll down her cheeks. “InuYasha I love you.” Her words came as if they were pleading with him not to say what was coming next.
“Kagome…” InuYasha's heart began breaking again just like the day she had left to go back home. He battled with his own tears that were trying to push themselves forward. “It was a dream Kagome.”
Kagome stepped forward and cupped her hand to InuYasha's face. She pushed his long silvery bangs back from his face. Her tears still streamed down her face. “I know.” She said. “And it was the sweetest dream I could ever have.” She wrapped her arms around him and he embraced her back.
The two stayed by the well until after mid-day catching up on things now that both had released part of their burdens from their hearts. InuYasha still felt guilty about what he had said, but it was the truth and both of them knew it. Kagome and InuYasha both promised that no matter what the future would hold for them they would continue to be friends. And when all was said and done with Naraku they would still visit. The truth being that as people grow up and older they tend to grow apart, but that doesn't mean you have to loose each other.
The two made their way back to the village to join everyone inside the hut for dinner. It took InuYasha no time at all to notice Akira was gone. He questioned everyone about her where about but no one knew.
“She left earlier this morning,” Kiade informed him. “But she did not return.”
