Panic overtook InuYasha as he regretted not being near by when she awoke. He raced out of the hut and followed her faint scent into the forest. It lead him back close the view of the well. `Oh no. She was here. She saw Kagome and I earlier today, together.' He continued to follow her scent trail through the forest and finally found her crying to herself by a stream.
“Akira?!” he said as he approached almost soundlessly.
Akira quickly turned her attention his way. She jumped to her feet her hand on the hilt of her sword. Her tears soon turned from sorrow to anger. “Stay away from me!” she warned in a low voice.
InuYasha took another step towards her. She raised her eyes from the ground and turned them to his direction. “I said stay away from me!” She yelled.
“Wait you don't understand…” InuYasha said trying to calm her, but Akira wasn't as forgiving as Kagome had been.
“Oh…” she yelled drawing her sword. “And what is it that I do not understand?!”
InuYasha stepped back. He had never seen her anger like this. Her eyes began to blaze a glowing blue. “Don't do this…” he pleaded with her. “My heart is yours.”
“I don't want it!” she yelled out. “I don't want anything to do with you!” Anger and hate burned through to her very soul. The sight of his betrayal could not leave her mind. “InuYasha I am leaving, do not follow me. If you do I won't hesitate to kill you.” She warned him and then took off under the fading sun.
InuYasha released a low growl of frustration and then took off after her. When he caught up with her she was walking slowly along a path towards the south. The direction of the wind changed and she caught his scent.
“Damn you...” she said barely above a whisper. She again drew out her sword and sent a purple surge of power back towards the trees where he tried to conceal himself.
InuYasha jumped forward dodging her attack. Akira rushed at him swinging her sword. InuYasha jumped up dodging her swings. He landed quickly behind her. Akira turned and lunged at him with her blade intending to impale him. InuYasha stepped to the side. Akira raised her sword high into the air and came straight down with her blade as hard as she could. InuYasha quickly drew his sword and used it to block the blade coming down on him. Rage overtook Akira as she withdrew stepping back and then attack again. Their swords clashed and the sounds echoed through the forest. Akira again came down from above with her blade and InuYasha used his sword to meet with hers. They stood face to face their blades locked. InuYasha looked into her eyes and though they were glowing blue with anger, tears still fell from them. Akira pushed left breaking the deadlock of the swords and with the hilt of the sword held in only one hand used her free hand to punch InuYasha in the jaw. InuYasha stepped back dazed by the blow and quickly shook it off. He attacked her this time swinging his sword ferociously and finally knocking her blade from her hands. Akira charged him with her claws exposed. InuYasha disarmed himself as the girl ran full force at him stabbing the ground with the Tetsuaiga and leaving it behind as he ran towards her. Before Akira could come down on him with her right hand slashing with her claws, InuYasha tackled her pushing her back to the ground. He held her down with his body weight and held both her wrist pinning her to the ground.
“Let me go!” she said in a pitiful cry as the glowing blue light left her eyes. She struggled to free herself, but couldn't.
As InuYasha felt her resistance die he loosened his grip and began to embrace her. He leaned down and whispered into her ear, “My heart is yours.”
Akira looked up at him, his loving golden orbs staring back at her as he sat back up. Tears began to pour from her blue eyes as she only allowed a small whimper to accompany them. InuYasha sat beside her all the while keeping her in his arms. She buried her head in his chest as the tears continued to fall. Finally her tears began to subside and she looked up at him gently pulling away from his embrace. InuYasha allowed her to withdraw from him.
“I can't do this.” She whispered painfully. “I can't be this…you belong to her.”
InuYasha's eyes fell to the ground. “My heart is mine to give.” He said sadly.
“I cannot accept.” Akira said as she stood up.
InuYasha quickly rose to his feet raising his eyes to hers. Confusion began to crush him.
“Go to her…” Akira said. “Before you loose her.” She walked over and picked up her sword returning it to her side and slowly began walking away.
“No.” InuYasha replied. Akira stopped dead in her tracks. “I will not let you go.” InuYasha said clenching his fist fighting back his own sadness.
Akira turned looking back at the half demon. InuYasha stood with his head down allowing his long bangs to cover his eyes. “Tell me InuYasha, why did you choose me?” She asked.
InuYasha grit his teeth. He was angry, annoyed, and hurt by her rejection. Frustration urged him to walk away and say to hell with the girl before him, but his heart warned him to stay. Finally after several moments of silence he began to speak. The words that followed were more than he had ever confessed before.
“Before now I gave my life to Kikyo. I willingly gave it to her in exchange for the loss of hers. I was bound to her as I am bound to Kagome. But what I have felt in the past is nothing compared to what I feel for you. My heart and soul are completed by you and you alone. I could continue through this life without you, but I would be but a fraction of what I am with you.” InuYasha's confession seemed to amaze even himself.
“InuYasha…” was all Akira could manage as she walked towards him. InuYasha raised his eyes and they met with hers. Her steps towards him began to quicken as she embraced him.
